Ford Explorer owners have reported 15 problems related to horn assembly (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Explorer based on all problems reported for the Explorer.
1. The vehicle horn unknowingly and unexpectedly stopped working, became unavailable, and subsequently failed to alert other of hazardous conditions, when approperiately initiated by the driver/operator. Without any indication or prior warning to the driver that the horn was not functional. This vehicle can be made available for NHTSA inspection upon request. For all intensive purposes, the only unique purpose for having a vehicle horn is for safety. 2. Safety was compromised and reslted in highly eleveted risks for the driver, passangers, pedestrians, traffic officers, by standers, other vehicles and congestion, following a night time egress of an nfl football game. 3. The problem is repeatable and the horn is currently in a failed state. The horn has not been diagnosed or repaired. It has not been confirmed, by the dealer, nor independent service center. Why? for them to bill me some ungodly amount, just to tell me, my the horn does not work. . On a vehicle I financed/purchased 4 months ago? and that I paid $200 last month for a failed battery last month. Good lord, and on a vehicle with more automated driver assist sensors, than a martian land Explorer? and the horn fails? for safety, horns are intentionally "enabled" and maintained in fuctional state. Note: auto owner has reported this safety defect to NHTSA. Owner requests all costs of diagnosis, parts, replacement, labor, repairs, wiring, computer, software, and the transparent identification of flaws in automatic updates via internet and wireless, connectivity, software updates, digital processing of vehicle operating systems, and digital monitoring of driving conditions, location, and environment. 4. No. It has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. Yet. 5. No warning lights, messages, or indicators prior to non-functioning and unexpected horn failure. I would like to request independent NHTSA inspection root cause analysis. Thank you.

2019 Ford Explorer. Consumer writes in regards to horn not being loud enough to be heard at any safe distance.
On several occasions while driving during the past several months, the power seat has moved backwards on its own, causing problems in reaching the pedals safely. In several incidents when this occurred, the interior lights also turned on. Two of the times this happened, it was when I had to honk the horn, but has happened on other occasions as well. Tonight, while making a right turn, the interior lights came on and the seat moved backwards, then the vehicle died - all electrical components went dead. I could easily have been rear-ended while trying to get the vehicle re-started and this is a huge safety issue.

Good morning, my car was parked in the driveway, not running, 11:15pm, when horn started to continuously and would not stop. Smelt wires burning. I started the car and was attempting to move it out of my neighborhood and upon driving, I tapped the horn and it stopped. Smell of wires burning. It happened again, yesterday am and today am, on the way to go, and I hit the horn and it stopped. Can this be airbag related??? I am scared to drive my car, fearing the airbag will open or a fire is going to start.

2002 Ford Explorer limited
electrical issues:
1) when I push the rear defroster button the door ajar notice comes on
2) when the rear defroster is on the mirror adjustment switch does not work
3) if I leave the automatic headlight switch on and I shut the car down and lock it with the key farb the horn beeps twice (indicating the door is ajar) and the interior light stays on. I have to either switch the automatic headlight switch to off or manually turn the interior light off. 4) the back up beeper switch sometimes goes off when I put the car in reverse. Thanks for helping me out.

Parked my SUV in the driveway after a short trip and the horn began to blow. As I investigated the noise I opened my door to find smoke rolling out uncontrollably. I ran inside to call 911, by the time I hung up the phone my entire truck was engulfed with flames. This just happened today, so I do not know what will be done about it. But this was caused by some defect in the vehicle.
: the contacted stated while starting the vehicle the fuses for the horn, cruise control, dashboard lights and compass burned out. While driving at 40 mph. With out replacing the fuse, the engine warning lights illuminated. When the engine compartment was inspected, brake fluid was observed to be leaking. The vehicle has not been to service dealer however the manufacturer contacted. The manufacturer informed the contact, that the vehicle was not included in the recent Ford recall expansion, which the contact heard about on the news, due to the VIN.

I've owned the vehicle for approx. 10 months. The vehicle hasn't started 7 different times. I've had minor hesitations when accelerating from an idle. The vehicle has felt like it was going to stall several times when coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop. The horn, on occasion, has not made the proper sound. The door locks do not always lock or unlock with the remote. I've had a burning smell eminating from vents with heat on. I've been to the dealership, jim keim Ford, 3+ times, had a diagnostic exam done, had the Ford flight recorder installed to attempt to register problems. Nothing ever found. I've documented everything from the time of the initial problem, just went through the dispute settlement board and have been awarded a refund of money or replacement of vehicle. Document everything and don't give up!!.
Engine heads cracked on both sides. The hood latch assembly rusted and cannot be opened, also the horn filled up with water and would not work as a result.
