Vehicle experiencing intermittent engine shut off under all driving conditons which exhibits a serious and dangerous situation when the vehicle abrubtly loses total power while driving. This has recently been an issue in the past two weeks while my wife and kids were driving on the freeway at 70 mph in traffic. Vehicle started back up once the ignition was turned completely off and waited a few minutes to start the vehicle back up. This scenario occurred on the freeway, in town driving and while stopped at traffic light. Contacted local Ford dealership and all they said was to bring it in. I had a mechanic check it out and he was unable to retrieve any engine codes while running an ecu scan. There are several complaints noted online with other Ford Explorer owners who have attributed it to a "terrain management" fault. This is the same diagnosis my local mechanic came up with. This results in the engine control module to receive a throttle position in the wide open indication causing the vehicle to shut off. The vehicle is currently being operated in oahu, hawaii. I am currently deployed to the middle east so I am very concerned for the safety of my family while this is the only mode of transportation available to them.

My vehicle has an idle air control malfunction and after conferring with other Ford owners. Most have had the same problem with their vehicle. I am concerned it may be a bigger problem than Ford may be aware of. We would like to have it investigated if possible. My vehicle is a 2001 Ford Explorer.

When the vehicle sits for 4-8 hours I would attempt to start it and then it would cut off. Then attempted to restart it cuts off. I would have to step on the gas to start it and kept my foot on the gas. If I let go of the gas the engine would shake and then it would stall. No engine light came on when driving. This happened at 60,000 miles. Took it to the dealer in woodstock GA on June 30, 2003 and stated that most of the Explorers and expeditions are coming in with the same problem. The dealer found it is the iac valve sticking or the ignition moducle sensor bad and had to be replaced. If it was for not the extended warranty the part alone costs $225. 00
if this is a common problem, with the Ford don;t understand why Ford does not recall them. I considered this a defect.

Dealership lost keys. On board computer/security system would not allow remake of key. Ford issues a TSB (ignoring issue hoping warranty would expire before a new key was requested. ) 4-wd inoperable. No 4-wd related indicator lamps on dashboard at engine start. Vehicle has been at dealership for over a week "waiting for a back ordered solenoid". "93 other 2002 owners are waiting for parts" to fix same problem.
