4 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

My 2013 Ford Explorer experience and was diagnosed by a Ford dealer as having the identical problem as like vehicles covered by NHTSA campaign NHTSA 14v286000. The vehicle loses power steering and a steering assist failure warning occurs while moving. My vehicle is not within the same mfg date range as the vehicles cover in the recall, however is the same make and model, and the same part is defective.

5 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/24/2020

The power steering assist warning came on and I lost power steering. This issue was a recall issue with Ford. T took the vehicle to sanderson Ford and they contacted Ford special service support center regarding the recall and warranty on the vehicle for recall. Ford did not approve the repair stating the vehicle was 13000 miles over the allotted mileage. Really??? following are the exact comments from dealer to Ford and Ford to dealer taken from copies of their communication: dealer comment: November 23, 2020-request Ford agent: if safety program 14s06 is closed and steering gear is required the vehicle must fall within the 10 yr/150,000 miles to be eligible for this repair. Nov 24, 2020-dealer-14s06 looks to be still open to myself and the technician please clarify Ford agent- 14s06 is closed on oasis thank you. Ford agent- not approved. Please be advised this is not approved. If 14s06 was open we could approve it but because 14s06 is closed and veh is over the fsa guidelines for 15n01 then we cannot approve. 14s06 was closed back in 08/07/2014. Dealer response: my apologies. Just. Trying to do my due diligence for the customer. 15no1 is still open. Which then refers to 14s06 for Explorer. The steering gear was not replaced when the 14s06 was claimed years ago. Only the reprogram was performed. 14s06 has a supplement which is copied and pasted as follows: subject demonstration/ delivery hold-safety recall 14s06-supplement #3 certain 2011-2013 model year Explorer vehicles reprogram power steering control module and steering gear extended coverage why did I not receive the coverage? I don't have enough letters allowed to continue the quote. But the supplement says if denied the steering gear assembly cause veh had exceeded the original recall I should get a refund. Ford has had this safety issue for a long time. My cost was $2,100.

6 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

As I was in motion driving my service power steering light came on and about 30 seconds later I lost all power steering causing my vehicle to swerve to the left. I was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle ihas has this issue of loosing power steering in the past August of 2019 and the power steering rack was replaced February of 2018. I have taken my vehicle into the local Ford dealership in 2019 and was advised it needed a new power steering rack at my cost! I have since had this issue again November 3rd. I have contacted Ford and the dealership in 2019 created a fraud claim for reprograming the climate control module nothing with the issue that I initially brought in with. Im scared for the safety of my family in this vehicle and the unethical claim barnes baker automotive of trenton, mo has claimed. My vehicle is not safe to drive at this time and I have concerns that the suspension recall has even been preformed. The recall for the power steering has been performed but, is an ongoing problem for my vehicle. Ford is claiming this is not a recall related issue which this vehicle has had a ongoing p[roblem with the power steering locking up. This almost caused an accident!.

10 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

I was driving home from dropping my daughter off at daycare and I lost the power steering on my vehicle while the vehicle was in motion and I was driving a steady speed down a straight road. My daughter was no longer in the car with me as this could have resulted in an accident but thankfully she was not and I was able to pull off the road with a lot of effort involved. My car had to be towed to the Ford shop and I had to have my power steering core changed. $2500. This car only has 37,000 miles and is a 2016 Ford Explorer. Quite frustrating, disappointing and expensive. There needs to be a recall with this problem because I am not the only one this has happened too.

11 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

My power steering assist went out multiple days as I went to start my vehicle. I turned it off and it turned back on. On the fourth day when I was driving home it turned off on me and I lost power steering. I had to pull over and turned off my vehicle and turned it back on but the power steering remained off and my other sensors turned off as well-stability control etc. . I went to the dealership and they said I needed a new power steering assembly and new battery. It cost me $2770 to fix. The recall did not apply to my VIN for my 2013 Ford Explorer even though it was for the same issue as the recall.

Lost power steering at 33558 miles and took to dealer fir repair. 13 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

07/28/2020 2013 Ford Explorer limited awd with a little over 58,000 miles had a power steering light come on while my wife was backing out of our garage and the steering became extremely difficult. It had lost power steering assist and made the vehicle almost impossible to steer. She stopped and turned the car off and restarted and the power steering started working again. Per the NHTSA website, 2011-2013 Ford Explorers have a recall for this exact problem. However, upon entering my VIN number, it appears to be "outside" the recall. I chatted with a Ford representative on 7/29/2020 (jessica) and she also confirmed that my vehicle, although within the years designated by the recall, my VIN was not included in the recall for this problem. Suggested I go to my nearest Ford dealer and "work" with them on the repair and see if they can help getting my vehicle added to the recall. I have researched numerous complaint for my Explorer and found that numerous owners are getting the same response as I did. Their vehicle is not included in the recall even though they have the model years identified. I feel that Ford has acknowledged their is a problem and need to include additional vehicles of the same make and model for the recall. It is obvious that more vehicles are affected than the original recall included. I fear that had my wife been traveling in town where we live and this occurred, she would have not been able to steer the vehicle and could have lost control and even been involved in an accident that could have injured herself or someone else.

14 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/26/2020

While driving 65 mph on the interstate, a chime alarm came on and a message came up saying "power assist failure ". Then I lost power steering immediately. Then another alatm. Flashed and said "service power steering now". Driving to the next exit 7 miles away was very scary and difficult. There was no warning sign at all that there was an issue with my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. And when there was a warning, it was too late. I had to have it towed 2. 5 hrs home. The mechanic shop gave me an estimate for repair of $2700. 00 to replace the power steering rack. As I do not have the money for it now, I brought it back home and it is sitting in my driveway. The power steering worked again when I was driving it the 1. 5 miles back home but went out again once I pulled on to my street. It was extremely difficult parking it without power steering. I saw this was a recall for some 2013 Explorers, yet my VIN was not included on the recall list.

We took the car to our mechanic who said that the entire rack and pinion needed to be replaced. This car has 53k miles on it. 17 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/27/2020

On 6-27/20, my Explorer suddenly lost power steering and the dash said "power steering assist failure". Took it to the dealer for diagnostic. Researched online the issue and noticed that 2011-2013 Ford Explorers were recalled for power assist steering issues (recall#14v286000/14s06) the dealer said my VIN is not included in the recall. Called Ford customer service (case# cas2694313) to see if I could get some assistance, she researched and said my only option was to have the repair done and in the event that Ford includes in my VIN at a later date, then I would get reimbursed. 20 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/09/2020

My wife and kids were driving our 2012 Ford Explorer on the highway when the dashboard gave a notice of "service power steering" and "service advancetrac". The SUV instantly lost all power steering and my wife had to muscle the vehicle off the highway. After taking some time to look int what could be the cause I ended up having it taken to the germain Ford of beavercreek. Upon diagnoses they stated that the electric power steering gear had become faulty. I asked if this was covered under the 'field action notice' or the recall that were available for this issue that I have seen all over the internet. It was explained that due to being 9,900 miles over the warranty of the field action notice they would not cover it, even after a asking through a provisional request to Ford. I called Ford customer service and was advised that this SUV had the initial recall on the electric power steering back in 2014 and that this field action notice is a follow-up coverage for that. I stated that this fix must still have issues and was advised that Ford has the thought that if something was wrong I would have brought it in before the 150k/10 yr mark. I stated we didn't know anything was wrong until now.

21 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Driving at 35+ entering on ramp mph the car lost all power and just stopped. The engine shut off. No warning lights or alarms went off beforehand. Once the car stopped, the engine light came on, the low pressure lamp too and an alarm sounded. I called a tow truck and had it towed to (told me my engine was milky destoyed)two dealears then to Ford. They called this morning and said the water pump went out causing catastrophic damage to the engine. The engine has to be replaced. They quoted $8,000. 00. Had to get a $10,000 loan. [to replace steering and engine] this is the first one (it seems to be headed in the same direction but only sooner) *please help me I can't afford this again**while driving on the highway, my power steering went out without warning. I lost all power steering and then the power steering alarm came on. Took it to Ford and had the power steering replaced at a cost of $1800. 00. Then, less then 2 weeks later while driving at 40 mph, the power steering went out again. And again, no warning lights until the power steering wen out. Ford said it was because my tires had low tread and I needed to replace my front tires, which we had them do. 8 months ago, the transfer case went out and had to be replaced also when placed in park vehicle shut off completely showing a low pressure oil lamp. Happened in my first engine now it's happening in this new one and its not 2yrs old yet just got the new engine may/ June of 2019. The first engine wasn't 10 years old . The first engine all this happened approximately between 2016 and 2019 ongoing until 2019 I guess the water pump gave up. O1 o1 2020 for the second engine on the same course as the first.

My wife was driving down a back road by our house with our 3 children in the back and myself as a passenger. The vehicle while traveling at roughly 40mph had a light flash that read service advance trac. She then lost all power steering and could not pull off the road. She could only brake. We shut the vehicle off and turned it back on. It regained steering for a few miles and then it happened again shortly after in a parking lot. It is now at the Ford garage to get looked at. It is super dangerous especially if she was traveling around a turn. It has 50000 miles on the vehicle.

27 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

Lost power steering. The power steering will intermittently work and you will get a power steering assist fault notice. There is a recall for this issue (15s11) but for some reason this Explorer was not included due to the manufacture date. I believe that recall needs to be extended to cover all of the vehicles affected. The vehicle is almost unsteerable when this happens and is not safe to drive.

28 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

While driving on a highway, steering fault light came on causing vehicle to lose power steering. Vehicle only has 50k miles and the steering column had to be replaced. There have been many complaints regarding this, Ford has already recalled this issue on later years. It is neglectful that nothing has been done, knowing that cars can lose power steering at any moment while driving, this endangers everyone on the road. I was able to pull the vehicle over safely. Dealership quoted me $2450 to replace. Worked with Ford customer satisfaction team who were able to help in reducing the amount. But it should have been free and this issue should be recalled before anyone is injured.

31 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/03/2019

I have a 2012 Ford Explorer that was included in the safety recall 14s06. The pscm was reprogrammed prior to me purchasing the vehicle. Associated to recall 14s06 is the extended coverage program 15n01, which is to remain open on the vehicles that were recalled in the event that any loss of steering assist dtcs are present. My Explorer has a complete loss of power steering and the dealer has noted that my entire steering gear assembly must be replaced. Ford refuses to acknowledge extended coverage 15n01. This coverage is supposed to last for 10 years and 150,000 miles. I am at 144,000 miles. Ford continues to repeat that my car is not included in the special coverage. However, publications from Ford indicate otherwise. Replacement of my steering gear is $2,200. All of which should be covered by Ford. My power steering and stabilitrak warnings go off and I lose power steering while driving. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed correctly by Ford. Ford's customer care department is severely incapable of answering the most basic questions. They are also incapable of accurately documenting what you have called about making it impossible to reach any resolution or provide information beyond what you research on your own. I requested escalation and was told that they don't have bosses, won't escalate my request for additional information or provide original recall notifications for my VIN. I was told the only way to pursue the issue further was to write a letter.

32 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

33 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

-failure of electronic steering gear- I have a 2015 Ford Explorer sport with 50,000 miles on it. 2 weeks ago I had a "steering fault assist" light come on while driving the vehicle on the interstate. I did not experience an issue steering at the time. Once I pulled off the interstate I restarted the vehicle and the alert went away. 5 days later I was diving in the city and the "steering fault assist" light came on again followed by "advance trak warning. " I lost power steering immediately. I got to an area to pull off and restarted the vehicle. Both warnings immediately came back on. I was over 4 hours from home, so I had to drive over 250 miles without power steering. I called multiple Ford service locations in my area, only one would take it and look at it within the week. I found out today that following a diagnostic test, I am needing to replace the electronic steering gear as it failed internally. Ford quoted me $2000 + tax to fix it. After going online, I have found numerous complaints of the exact same thing happening with other Ford Explorer owners. I am completely disappointed in Ford!.

34 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Driving down the expressway going 75mph when we got a power steering fault error. We lost all power steering and traction control. Very scary with our 3 small children in the car in the middle of the expressway. Called Ford and was told that while there was a recall for this issue, our VIN was not included. Doesn't make any sense since it is the exact same issue that models under the recall are experiencing. Ford needs to address this ASAP. We pulled over, turned off and restarted the vehicle and the fault went away and we regained power steering. Thankfully there was not much traffic otherwise we could have been seriously injured in an accident.

35 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

I bought the car used in April 2019, it only has 25,000 miles. I was driving with my toddler when all of the sudden I could not steer the vehicle easily and warning lights started going off after I lost power steering. The lights were power assist fault and something about advancetrack system in which I noticed that my four wheel drive capability was not working. I was on a city street so I was able to pull into a parking lot. Once I let it sit for a few minutes and started up, everything was alright. This was the 2nd time this has happened the first time, I was just exiting off the highway when I lost power steering and warning came on but it only occurred for a minute and everything was back to normal. This is a safety risk and I am afraid to drive it long distance. Other than this I love this vehicle!.
