37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/29/2025

3 times this has happened. I brake and it seems like I'm pressing the gas pedal and the brakes feel like they aren't stopping the vehicle. The third time put me in incoming traffic and the vehicle was totaled as it already had a rebuilt salvage title when we bought it.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/07/2025

While driving with the ac on you can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin and it's worse towards the rear carbin of the vehicle. I've gotten nauseated and sleepy from the fumes and have had several headaches in addition to the other symptoms. Ford needs to recall this issue. Also I have an active recall for the window pillars and the dealership says they still dont have the parts to fix it, and it's been over a year, what's the hold up Ford??!!.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/03/2025

There is a strong fuel order coming from passenger side after every fuel fill, affects everyone in the car while moving, especially affecting my grandchildren and my family. Backup camera rarely comes on while backing up, gives a black screen which can cause accidents especially in reverse. Rear driver side makes loud squeaky sound while driving over speed bumps slowly or bumpy roads. I purchased this vehicle used June 2025. It has an active molding recall that hasn't been fixed and I have contacted a Ford dealership last year.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

My Explorer has a 10 speed transmission, and its really heavy on shifting like it is missing shifts or slipping, it will shoot up in rpms to the 7-8k mark and jerk forward, this will happen every few minutes when varying speed, driving through residential areas or normal trafficways not including the highway, however on the highway it has a tendency to feel as if it loses power and regains it, dropping rpms and shooting back up to 4-5k rpm, and dropping back down to around 2k. Today I had the incident where the car jerked hard after a shift, gave me prompts on the dash about seeing the manual, and that drive modes are not available. This has happened in the past month before multiple times, however this time I lost all power to acceleration going down the road, ended up just coasting to a stop on a road that speed limit is 55 mph. This made me panic, because I could have possibly been rear ended, or in any other case could have been hit if my car would not have properly been able to accelerate. The car has had similar problems reported from previous owners and they have been taken into a dealership for repairs of which did not fix the problem or the problem is reoccurring. There are no warning lamps prior to the jerkiness of shifting and loss of acceleration because of it. It will jerk a handful of times and eventually give me the "see manual" prompt after the initial problem was noticed, I decided to look online for answers as to what was wrong and it seems like this is a reoccurring problem with vehicles similar to mine. Hopefully it hasnt caused and injuries, but it definitely has the possibility to from what I have experienced.

On highway was accelerating to pass another vehicle the transition froze , engine revved with no acceleration ( transmission skipped) this has happened several times over the 5 years. The lasted event we documented the date and mileage it happened date 7/13/25 mileage is 34990. These skips have put us in extremely dangerous situations. Transmission has been making growling noise now under normal driving.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

There are three active recall on my car, all of which say there are not remedy available and NHTSA recall number 25v455 can cause engine failure that leads to a crash, was reported in July 2025, and still has no remedy. The other 2 recalls are NHTSA recall number 26v123 and NHTSA recall number 26v117.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

On 3 separate occasions my car has stalled when driving. All three were after driving for several hours in hot weather. 2 of the times I had a quarter of a tank of gas and pressed on the gas to pass someone and my car stalled out immediately after. Both very dangerous scenarios. 3 time just this week. Driving for over 5 hours in hot weather conditions, but 3 quarters of a tank of gas and stuck in traffic and the car just completely stalled. Again a dangerous scenario on the highway. All three times after waiting for about 45 minutes the car will start again. Sluggish at first and then drives normal. It’s giving indications that it could be a defect in the low pressure fuel pump that has been a recall in other 2019 Ford Explorers, but my VIN #is not listed as one of them.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/06/2025

While driving the vehicle goes into what I have found is called sleep mode. . The check engine lite comes on and the left info panel shows that the all wheel drive is not working. The dealer tried to see what codes were set and found none. My solution is to pull off the road, put the vehicle in park and turn off the ignition. After about 30 seconds I can restart the vehicle and drive again. The restart lasts from 15 seconds to a month. I found a TSB ( 16-0139) that covered this problem. However it did not offer any cure. I am concerned that someone will hit me when this happens.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/04/2025

There is hesitation when coming from a stop to accelerating there is a delay of power. This problem has been going on since we have had the car. It is safety issue especially when we accelerate to get onto the highway. It is very inconsistent. We recently took it in and found that an error code of p0496 the evaporator purge valve to be a problem. Not sure if this is a problem with other Fords like ours. So I thought you could investigate it for me. Thank you.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

When I accelerate, the car jerks back and forth and stalls. Ford has said the car was throwing codes but the tech didnt feel the issue so they sent me on my way. . . . Well fast forward to today, I am informed my car has thrown codes 4 times in the past few days and this morning I was scared to drive my car it was bad. . . And I have a [xxx] daughter. Our safety is my top priority and it doesnt seem to matter to anyone else information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

When my vehicle reaches 60 mph the back end of my vehicle begins to sway excessively. Something may be wrong with the axle. It’s actually very frightening. Also, when my vehicle is running, I feel a slight puttering and then it quickly goes away as if somethings going on with the fuel pump. Lastly, my rearview camera sometimes looks a little blurry. I did take my vehicle to team Chevrolet in swansboro, north carolina where I purchased the vehicle. They stated something is going on with the axle and sway bar.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/18/2025

There was no accident, but very close a few times. When I am stopped at a stop sign or light when I press down on the gas pedal the car hesitates I have to pump the pedal to get the car moving or it would stall in traffic. No check engine light is or has been on. I’ve been to 2 different Ford dealerships and after there inspection they claim nothing wrong with my car. It’s already cost me a lot if money. When driving I can feel the car surge likes it’s not getting fuel sufficiently real bad at traveling at or below 50 mph. I’m afraid it will stall and get us t- boned but the mechanics say nothing wrong I disagree there is something wrong. I know another person who had the same problem and he got rid of the car, I can’t afford to do that, please do something to get a recall or something before we’re seriously injured or worse. This started about a year ago and getting worse.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/15/2025

Car would not start at certain times without warning. Sometimes putting us in an unsafe location. Finally vehicle was in a public parking and would not start and had to be towed to Ford dealer. The fuel pump and some other issues failed. Repair shop said it would happen with low gas, but we had over a half a tank. Total cost of bill without tow was $2132. 02. Vehicle had 45,015 miles.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

When vehicle is on and either in park or at a stop, rpms will idle at about 800-1000 rpm then randomly shoot up between 2000-2500 rpms then drop to below 500 rpms before returning to idle. It’ll do this randomly.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/08/2025

This problem started about 2 months ago and it happened 3 different times so far. While driving, when pressing the gas, the vehicle will all of a sudden not go. You just drift as if the car is not getting gas. On 2 of the occasions, a shift error message appears on the dash but quickly disappears. This can be very dangerous while driving and cause an accident. I have not had the vehicle looked at yet because I feel it should apart of the new recall for the other Ford Explorers.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/09/2025

Fuel purge valve not working properly causing the vehicle to not start after filling with gas, needing to keep vehicle running while filling with gas, safety issue. Turbo faulty causing car to loose power while driving and towing. Safely concern for multiple reasons. Flex exhaust pipe broken and mesh ripped causing burning smell and dangerous debris.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/22/2025

Charcoal canister and vapor purge valve failure. Broke down twice after putting gas in my car right at the pump. One time in not the greatest neighborhood that I have to drive through to get to work. Putting myself at risk by sitting at a gas pump with a car that sounds like it wants to start but keeps just choking. After fueling a few times prior I noticed the idle of the car getting very low and reported it to the dealer. They replaced both cats. Problem didn’t go away. Got an emissions warning when I tried to start the car at the gas station after fueling. Car has 70,000 miles on it.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/20/2025

I was pulling into my apartment division I heard a loud pop and the vehicle then died. I tried starting it back up and it then caught on fire. My door locks were stuck in the locked position and I could not get them to unlock. Within a few seconds (which felt like several minutes) the doors did unlock and I was able to get out. There were no warning lights or messages prior to this. Fire department did arrive and put out the fire. The car was a total loss. Report has been filed with insurance company. I purchased this car from bx fort myers llc. I just purchased this vehicle from them and had for a total of 32 days. I did purchase the 12 month/12,000 mile extended warranty. I also purchased gap insurance and informed them of what had happened. The one gm gave me a loaner for a week, got in trouble for giving me one and got demoted. The new gm said "definitely not" will not give me a loaner. I drive over an hour daily for my job and do need a vehicle.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/13/2025

I own a 2022 Ford Explorer purchased in April 2025. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced multiple defects affecting safety and normal use. The instrument cluster becomes foggy, making it difficult to clearly see my speed while driving. The infotainment screen intermittently malfunctions and affects the backup camera display, reducing rear visibility. I also experienced fuel contamination that was confirmed and repaired by the dealership. In addition, the rear hvac air vents close and do not provide airflow to the back seats. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership four separate times for different issues. Despite these repair attempts, the problems have continued or new issues have appeared. Due to the ongoing defects and safety concerns, I do not feel safe or confident operating this vehicle.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Water pump failure, causing over heating in vehicle , not even 100,000miles. Causing to leave us stranded on the road. Apparently there's a lot of complains for this pump causing issues. Please look into this and start a recall process.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/14/2025

Service advancetrac light came on while driving. Lost all propulsion and power steering. Almost went off road around a curve due to no power steering. Ford dealership diagnosed it as faulty steering sensor. Had that replaced about 18 months ago, now this near accident just happened. Service trac light traction control light are both on with no propulsion or power steering. I’ve been doing research on this and this seems to happen to a lot of Ford owners as Ford is the only manufacturer to produce vehicles with advancetrac system. How has this not been a recall yet?.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/04/2025

I have had 4 Ford Explorers that have the same problem that Ford has not commented on when I complain. If the car is parked facing down a hill with less than 1/4 tank of gas it won't start. The design of the tank precludes gas from reaching the engine. Unable to start the car, it cannot be brought out of park and rolled to a flat location. This time I had more than 1/4 of a tank and the same problem occurred. This happened in my driveway but what if you're on a street with an incline?.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/11/2025

My wife was driving the car all of a sudden the check engine light came on, and it started to flash on and off. The car started sputtering. She pulled over turned the car off and called me. I informed her to wait a little bit and restart the car. She did – and then the check engine light came on, but was no longer flashing, and a car started running as if no problem. I had the code checked out it is p0300 – which is an error code of random misfire detected in the engine. Fortunately, she was not evolved in an accident, even though she was traveling on the highway. I am taking it to the dealer as his recommended. This happened when the mileage on the odometer read 40,144.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/17/2024

I have recently have experienced engine failure with the 2020 Ford Explorer 2. 3 ecoboost engine. I was driving on a 4 lane highway, specifically on a bridge, and I experienced loss of power and acceleration. At that time, the engine light came on. I managed to get home, with the vehicle seemed as if in limp mode. I had my vehicle towed to the Ford dealer ship. The service manager stated that they believe it is complete engine failure. He believes the failure is in the cylinder walls which is due to coolant intrusion in cylinders 2 and 3. His suggestion is to change the "long block" at the costs of $12,284,51. Also, he expressed a concern with the transmission. It might be an issue with the computer, or wire harness. Which would be $1091. 81. Plus, a couple sensors, spark plugs. In all the total repair costs are $16,904. 16. I owe about $9,500. Prior to this, in 2022 the turbo went out. It was replaced under the warranty at that time. This was at 90,000 miles. After doing some online research. There has also been a class-action lawsuit involving the 1. 5l, 1. 6l, and 2. 0l ecoboost engines. Owners of these engines reported issues such as coolant leaks leading to engine overheating and, in some cases, engine failure. The lawsuit claims that Ford was aware of these defects but did not take adequate steps to address them. There are some fantastic videos on youtube that explains and illustrates the reasons for the manufacture defect and engine failure. [xxx] I am a high mileage driver of highways and interstates. I understand that vehicles will have normal wear & tear. I now have 190,000 miles and no longer under warranty. However, based on my investigation, and other similar complaints about the 2020 Explorer with the same or similar issues, I believe there could be a defect with the cylinder head just like the other ecoboost engines. Other Ford Explorer owners will likely experience the same as the add miles information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/13/2024

There are problems with these items which are covered under a Ford recall. My vehicle is at liccardi Ford dealer in watchung NJ and I feel a tremendous resistance from the dealer to repair the recalled ordered repairs.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/12/2024

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that upon approaching the vehicle she smelled a strong odor of gasoline inside her inclosed garage, after which, she overserved gasoline leaking from underneath the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel delivery module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 15v812000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

I have had this problem ever since we purchased this automobile on [xxx], when the car gets to a quarter tank of gas or a little less the dash monitoring system says there's 87 miles left till empty and you park this car on a hill or incline with the front end facing down the car will not start and everything shuts down. The only way to restart it is to put more gas from a can in it or go through a long process to takes two people to do to get the car on a level area then it will restart. I call the dealer abut it and they said there is no problem. The car had to be towed twice in the first few months we had it for this and as soon as they got it off the truck it would start and they do nothing about it. I call Fords hot line and they said they know about the problem but can't do anything about it , I was told that its a fuel pickup problem. Today [xxx] my wife when to the store this morning and the fuel gage said it had a quarter tank of gas in it and when she came out of the store the car would not start for her. I had to go and get a 5 gal. Can of gas and drive to where she was and put the gas in the car and after that the car started, she drove to the nearest gas station to fill it up. All I have been told to do by Ford and the dealer is to keep the gas tank full and fill it when it gets to half a tank. There is definitely a problem with this car and it needs to be addressed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/03/2024

Faulty throttle body after purge valve replacement. Car would not accelerate and had to be towed to the dealer. Throttle body is stuck in the closed position according to the dealer.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/23/2024

The catalytic converters for the Ford Explorer utility police interceptor fail prematurely, degrading the emissions from the vehicle and causing the vehicle to fail emissions testing. Although Ford has implemented a customer satisfaction campaign 22m06, they do not inform owners of the campaign or potential problem. My car was inspected by two Ford dealerships who simply cleared the error code (p0430) and made no mention of campaign 22m06. The error code persisted as I replaced numerous other components (spark plugs, purge valve, oxygen sensors, mass air flow sensor) trying to alleviate the problem over the last year. Only if you mention the campaign specifically will they inspect the vehicle for the purpose of replacing the the catalytic converters under warranty. Replacing these failing catalytic converters should be a recall because failure creates substandard emissions for thousands of vehicles.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

Driving on the highway heard large rattling noise coming from engine loss of power engine light came on battery light came on no acceleration cause to slow down on highway fortunately I was able to get to shoulder had it towed to service shop had p0012 code tensioner may have broken off on timing belt causing low oil pressure and causing engine rattling noise and engine shut down but service garage don’t do that type of work.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

Check engine light came on. Code p0161 for O2 sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 2. Found massive corrosion at connector. This is the second like make/model/year vehicle we have seen this on. Mfg does not have pigtail repair kit available and entire harness would be needed to repair.

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/08/2024

On July 8th while driving to work my car just shut off and the brakes locked up. This scenario happened again several other times even after being worked on at a Ford dealership. Please see attachment for specific dates & details. Fuel pump driver module was replaced first time then the fuel pump the last time. Explorer was inspected by the sandy sansing Ford dealership in daphne, alabama. Only time warnings/codes appeared was when it shut off. I attached a screen shot of what the dash showed.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Ford Explorer
