36 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/05/2012

The fuel system has a problem with it. When you go to put gas in it the pumps almost immediately shut off. Something in the fuel system is telling the pump that the tank is full when it is not. It can take 30 minutes to put 10 gallons in the tank.

37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

Ever since I have owned the vehicle I have never been able to continuously pump a full tank of gas. It takes roughly 25 minutes to get a full tank.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

Fuel gauge is working intermittent. Tank is fill up with gas, but gas gauge show empty. Sometimes it comeback, after an hour or so and then, after 30 mins goes back to empty again. I read this is an issue on almost all Ford Explorer.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

The fuel gauge shows a false full and the tank does not fill all the way. The fuel gauge shows a false empty showing you have a half a tank when you may actually have 3 gallons. Running out of fuel on the highway is not safe. The gas stations pump shuts off automatically giving you the impression that the tank is full and is confirmed full by an innacurate gas gauge which shows full. So you might have 18 gallons in a tank that should have 22. 5 gallons and the gauge shows a half tank when you have 3-4 gallons.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/06/2008

When I fill my gas tank, occasionally the arrow does not go to full. I also have an electronic notification on my dashboard that tells me how many miles I have left to drive before I am on empty. This also does not change. This has happened no more than five times and takes a day or two for gauge to read full.

42 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

My gas gauge on my 2004 Ford Explorer has failed me many times. I took it to my dealership & they told me to add some fuel additive to my gas tank & this would cure the problem. Well it has not & my warranty is out!!! I'm very concerned for my wife's safety if she runs out of gas, so we have to keep a written log as to the mileage before fill-up's. I'm told the sensor is bad & would cost close to $1,000. 00 to repair. I have complained to Ford & they refuse to repair since the warranty is out. I have also complained to Ford about a back hatch panel that has cracked for no apparent reason directly under the exterior Ford emblem & they will not repair this since it is out of warranty. These are both for sure manufacturer defects, that Ford should be made to repair at their cost.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/25/2007

The fuel gauge suddenly drops to empty even when the fuel tank is full. I have a 2005 Ford Explorer that had this repaired under warranty because it happened before 36000 miles. My husband has a 2005 Ford Explorer that we just bought in April 2007. His just hit 37,000 miles and this has happened to him as well. It also happened in my coworker's 2003 Ford Explorer. There is a recall on the 2002 Ford Explorers with v6 engine covering this exact same problem. However the 2005s are not in the recall and should be.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

When trying to fill the gas tank it is slow and will not fill properly. Had 3 different mechanics try to fix the problem with no resolve.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/02/2006

There is a defect in the fuel gauge indicator. It will randomly drop from the true fuel level to zero fuel. After some variable time period it will again go from zero fuel to that actual fuel level. This is a safety hazard because it confuses the driver as to how much fuel there is in the fuel tank and may cause the driver to stop the car in an unsafe location. I have had this car for seven years and it has persisted all these years. I checked the web and other Ford Explorer owners have the same complaint. I believe that Ford should recall these cars and fix this safety hazard.
