Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, making a left turn the vehicle steering wheel seized with remote hill start assist not available service advance trac, power steering assist warning light illuminated. The contact veer to the shoulder of the road placed the vehicle in park turned the vehicle off and back on which failed to resume back to normal. On the 14th of January 2020, while driving on the freeway, my truck began to sway as if my alignment was off. A short while later, the service power steering warning light came on and as I struggled to steer the vehicle to a stop in a nearby parking lot, the warning changed to service power steering now! this was very dangerous because steering became extremely difficult and I almost side swiped a couple of cars. After I brought the vehicle to a stop, the steering locked up and steering became impossible. The vehicle was towed to a near by Ford dealership.

Power steering assist fault, first appeared January 9th 2020 - purchased vehicle with around 146,000 miles on 4/2019 - we are the second owners, first owner bought new and had detailed maintenance records - never had recall work done from 2014 regarding this issue. Took to paul miller Ford, lexington, ky - stated Ford should have to fix - but they won't because it is over 150,000 miles. Power steering assist fault light came back on Feb 7, 2020 - and still remains on and un-driveable. Ford refuses to fix the issue, and I'm not the only one. There are several of us on forums being told the same thing. I do not believe the previous recall fixed them all - they only contacted ones that were manufactured out of chicago - with this many still having problems, there has to be problems with all models during this time-frame, regardless of where they were manufactured. This is a safety issue and should be addressed and Ford should be held accountable. Had I known about this issue - I would not have bought the vehicle.

Upon starting vehicle, steering wheel tighten up and extremely difficult to steer, could not back out of parking space at work- power assist error light came on. This is second occurrence. The first time (1 month ago) I was parked on a hill so thought may have been a fluke. Today I looked the error up and saw Ford has recall for 2011-2013 but my 2013 VIN is not part of batch. Believe Ford needs to extend the 'window' and add more vehicles with this same issue! this is very dangerous!.

Cranked up car this morning and the power steering assist fault light came on. Could not turn steering wheel. Tried again later and could drive it to the Ford dealership 1. 5 miles away. They said there's no recall. And it's $2300 to replace the steering gear. Has 107000 miles on it.

Steering fault warning light comes on then the car looses its steering like no power steering. This has happened 4 or 5 times now.

My vehicle intermittently displayed �steering fault. Service now� message on my dashboard. Unfortunately at first, I didn't think much of it since it happened so infrequently and the steering wasn't too noticeable. Had I known then what I know now, I would have recorded it the first time it occurred. It wasn't until I hit around 25,000 miles that the steering was slightly difficult. I was driving through my town and found it noticeably harder to turn the steering wheel around corners. The same warning appeared on the dash, to which I scheduled an appointment. When I took it in to be serviced for the previous recall, I requested for them to look into the message. Turns out I have a faulty epas in my vehicle, estimating around $2,200 to replace. When I contacted Ford customer service, they reviewed my case and denied any coverage for this replacement.

I was parked, when a loud sound came from the motor area of my 2016 Ford Explorer. The service advance track and the steering failure light came on about. I brought the car to dealer and they said that the rack and pinion is leaking, evan that only had 32, 000 miles is not covered by warranty because expires a few months ago, and is going to cost $2,230. 00 for the parts and labor. The day before I was with all my family having fun and driving around, I'm thinking if this part breaks while we was at interstate 70, that the speed limits is 70mph, and you lose control of the vehicle, it will be a really bad or fatal accident. There being a lot of reports with this issue. What Ford and the NHTSA are waiting to take accion, that more incident ocurred or people died to do a recall. Like they are doing with the air bags after a many people died. Please take action today, don't wait until is to late.

When driving the steering became impossible for my wife to steer the car. Power steering assist light came on along with advance trac light. This happened on 2 separate occasions. The first time we were traveling down a highway and the second time she was parking in the garage. She was unable to park the car staight in the garage. We took the car to herman Ford in luverne, mn to be repaired. We were told the problem in the steering gear. Through my research Ford has recalled other Explorers with the same problem. Ford is telling me that my car does not fall under the recall. This problem creates a dangerous situation when it occurs.

This will be the second time in a couple of years that my steering on my car has just quit while I was driving it. I was, luckily, sitting in a parking lot, parked. When I put my car in drive and turned my wheel my steering ability was suddenly was gone and I had the "hill assist disabled" light to come on, "advance trac control light" flashed, and the steering loss light came on. I had no capability to turn my wheel without putting enormous effort. It's as if all my power steering died. This is the second time this has happened.

I only have 42000 miles on this vehicle and have had numerous electrical problems with this car, including replacing the apim. I have a 16 year old, that just started driving with me in this car, and I do not think it is safe. I truly believe there is some wiring problem or electrical problem that Ford is ignoring. I see many people posting this same dangerous steering fault issue, and it not getting fixed.

I experienced a total loss of power steering. It began as a little play in the steering wheel near the end of an 8 hour drive. The service power steering now light came on at that point. After parking the vehicle and restarting the vehicle there was no power steering at all.

I have parked the SUV in the garage and have not used it since. Ford acknowledges this problem in the 2011-2013 and 2015-2017 vehicles. It's obviously an issue from 2011-2017. Why was 2014 excluded from this recall?.

2015 Ford Explorer. Consumer writes in regards to power steering failure. The consumer stated while driving the steering service light illuminated and the power steering immediately went out. The vehicle was not included in the power steering recall.

2013 Ford Explorer parked in a parking lot for one hour after being driven 2 miles at 9:30 a. M. On first start on a 95-degree day. On starting one hour later, 10:30 a. M. , the car started, it was shifted into reverse, but on holding the steering wheel to make a slight turn while backing up from the parking space to leave, the steering wheel was completely frozen and would not move at all. I could not steer the car. I shifted into drive and let the car drift back forward into the parking spot. Steering wheel completely frozen, would not move. Shifted the car back into drive and the car moved forward on its own, shifted into reverse and the car again moved a little, but I could not move the steering wheel at all. This error message appeared on the dash: power steering assist failure. Turned off engine, left it off 5 seconds, restarted, and power assist steering failure code did not come one. I drove the 2 miles home, praying the power steering would not go out and freeze up again while being drive. 3 hours later the car is operating normally so far, but a complete power steering failure is life threatening and could reoccur in this vehicle at any time, resulting in injury, death, and damage to the car. Ford has acknowledged this problem in 2011 Ford Explorers and issued a recall. As my 2013 Explorer has the same epas problem, Ford needs to issue a recall and repair the problem at no cost to the owners. I have read online of owners having the power steering fail during turns, resulting in injuries. This car is not safe to drive in its current condition.

While driving down a major highway with my family and with no warning the power steering went out along with a notification saying, "steering loss stop safely" and "service advance trac". Had my girlfriend been driving we probably all would have been killed by a semi coming through the curve as I was struggling to steer the vehicle and keep it in our lane as there was no place to pull to the side of the road. I finally managed to stop the vehicle and pull to the side of the road after struggling through the curve. I called a friend to pick up my family and manage to get the vehicle back home driving very slow struggling with the steering with hazard lights on. After a little research I found there were recalls for the same issue on 2011-2013 and 2015-2017 Ford Explorer 's but not the 2014! even though 1000's have reported the same issue with the 2014. This is ridiculous its almost as if people have to get killed before they do something about about this.

Had the rack and pinion steering fail at 30,000 miles ,when I turned the steering wheel even slightly it sounded like metal was grinding.
