2020 Ford Explorer XLT purchased new from dealer 04/2020. On two separate occasions the starter would not activate to start the car. When the brake is depressed the starter button and exterior lights flash. The car was towed to the Ford dealer, but the car started immediately according to technician. No issues were found. On the second occasion, the issue resolved spontaneously as well. Since I am not able to duplicate the problem with any regularity, there is no sense in taking the vehicle to the dealer. In both instances the vehicle was parked in a public parking lot with the engine turned off. The vehicle has less than 10k on it.
The car sat for 7 days (we are retired) and the starter button did not respond on the first two tries to start engine. It happened on two occasions. If left at an airport, we might have been stranded. I believe the cause is the high current drain for the wifi and other electronics going on. The dealer said to check battery. The problem does not occur unless the car is unused for a number of days.

I just got back my vehicle from the dealerships service center and according to their finding their was an issue with the vehicles starter. I drove home parked the car in the garage then turned off the ignition. The vehicle would turn off, so I pushed the start button again but still did not turn off then seconds later I smell smoke. I immediately backed up to have the car outside the garage . I hit the start button again to turn off and this time the engine shut down. Heavy smoke was coming out of the engine compartment so I just stood at a distance . 10-30 minutes later as the smoke subsided I decided to pop the hood open and still there's smoke from the engine compartment. I have a video but cannot attach.

This 2002 Ford Explorer eddie bauer abruptly stops while driving at any speed without any notice or indication that the ignition will fail to keep the car running. This car has been to two Ford dealerships and one reputable and established independent automotive repair shop. This car was at a Toyota dealership for almost 30 days and this car was returned to me with this potentially fatal defect still undiagnosed. None of the aforementioned dealerships could determine the true underlying problem. At the Toyota dealership a brand new starter was installed because of a no start condition showing no power to the starter and blown fuses for the injectors, fuel pump, and the computer. The same defect showed itself one day later after traveling over 70 miles with no sign of failure.

They pulled the front end of the motor and noticed something snapped and was sitting in the pan. The contact had been on the internet and had noticed that other Explorers were having the same problem. The current and failure mileage were both 98000 miles.

Ongoing shifting and slipping within the transmission. Also a loud shrill at the end of the acceleration. The transmission converter has been replaced multiple times and the transmission leaked out fluid at highway speed. After the repair of a stripped transmission line connector and a pile of glue to fix a broken electrical connector the vehicle was returned to service by the dealership and the warranty company. The converters are "remanufactured" which have been known to fail. The glob of glue on the electrical connector will be reviewed by the state as to the proper repair procedure. A law suit may follow due to separate repairs including a tire with a nail, where a new tire was purchased and a used on was installed (bf goodrich). The tire was also not balanced and was off by 1. 5 oz. There was also a gasket removed from the cooling system that caused antifreeze to spill out onto the engine. The cooling system had been serviced two months prior and was never leaking until the day the vehicle was returned. There was also the discovery of the positive electrical harness to the starter having exposed wires due to the oil filter drain housing made of plastic rubbing against the wires. There are three wires exposed and there may be the potential for fire.
:the contact stated that the battery on the vehicle ran out due to the driver leaving the lights on overnight. However, when the vehicle was given a jump-start, all the dashboard lights came on, but the motor did not start. The battery was replaced with a semi-used battery, and the vehicle still did not start. No mechanic was consulted.

Vehicle has been in repair shop three times for not starting. The starter was replaced. Then, second time, a computer chip was replaced. Dealer has the vehicle after being towed, and the defect could not be found.
Problems with the starter and wheels not returning to center position after making a turn. (nar) there was a possibility that the wrong type of sway bar had been installed on the vehicle at the factory. The power steering unit was the problem. The problem still existed. The steering wheel did not return to the center after turning, especially when turned to the right. The consumer would have to physically bring the vehicle back to the center, or it would continue running of the road.
