While trying to pass a vehicle on the highway my truck started to sputter and loose power, the check engine light came on for a few seconds and went off. This problem is happening every day now under all conditions. There are numerous complaints on this problem and no real resolutions.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford f150. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the check engine warning light illuminated as the engine became unresponsive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a wire connected to a spark plug was faulty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 72,000.
When passing on interstate truck lost power an went into a limp mode check engine light went to flashing which made the truck unsafe when other traffic was moving at a higher rate of speed.
While accelerating the truck hesitates, looses power and jerks violently, the check engine light flashes several times while passing a vehicle. When the truck jerks and looses power it feels like the engine is about to explode. Has almost caused several accidents because of the sudden lost of power. It appears to me that the truck is misfiring.
Has a problem with the turbo intercooler getting condensation and make the truck lose power check engine light starts to flash whole truck just shakes had it to the Ford dealer had to put a new cat converter on my warranty didnt cover any of it I said this is Fords screwup why dont they have a recall ended costing my $800. 00 not to impressed Ford motors also intercooler was full of ice and water.
I should note that my truck has the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. This occurred on a very cold morning (-15f) while attempting to pass a truck on a 2 lane highway, going up hill. I had been driving approximately 1 hour when this happened. As I pulled into the left lane and accelerated hard, the truck began to shutter and misfire, losing almost all power. The check engine light flashed 3 or 4 times then came on solid. I was able to drop back into the right lane behind the truck and avoid an oncoming vehicle. I limped the truck to an area where I could get off the road. After turning the truck off and restarting the engine, it ran better but not at what would be considered full power. I got to my destination about 20 minutes later, left the truck sit for about 2 hours and headed back towards home. The engine seemed to run normally at cruising speed. Since that occurance, I have noticed a drop in gas mileage and intermittent misfires or shuttering of the engine when accelerating hard. I believe this has the potential to create a significant safety hazard upon acceleration to pass or to merge into traffic. This truck basically died and lost all power. This is clearly not an isolated issue, as I have read numerous complaints on various Ford truck forum websites.
I was traveling on the interstate where I live and was trying to get up to speed to merge with traffic and when I accelerated my truck lost power and began to sputter and shake, and would not get up to speed, and the check engine light came on, when I took to the local dealer where I purchased it I was told number 2cylinder and number 4 cylinder was mis firing, that I needed new coil packs so I had them replaced and I am still having the same problem.
While trying to merge onto the highway while under medium to heavy throttle my 2011 F-150 ecoboost lost all power while shuddering to the point it I had to abruptly get out of traffic and pull off the side of the road. As this was happening the check engine light started to flash and continued for a few minutes. After sitting for a few minutes the truck behaved almost normal as long as engine rpm was kept under 2500 above that it continued to miss and have a loss of power. By the time I got it home the cel was(is) on continuously. This all happened during rush hour on a very busy socal highway and could have been catastrophic.
Under acceleration between 60-70 mph, trucks starts shuttering and decelerating. The check engine light starts blinking and will blink for about a minute before staying on. I was nearly rear ended by a semi entering the highway today as I was trying to accelerate up to highway speed and at approximately 65 mph, the truck started decelerating and shuttering down to 35 mph before I could get enough power to maintain that speed and get off to the side of the highway.
While driving at 55mph attempted to pass a vehicle on a two lane highway. Accelerated hard to pass and heard a loud metal on metal sound and lost power briefly. I was unable to replicate the initial incident, but now the truck randomly misfires and shutters under hard acceleration. Sometimes the check engine light will illuminate other times it does not. Dealer has been able to replicate the misfire but claims they can do nothing more. This is a safety issue because when power is needed most it is unreliable. I have escalated the matter to the corporate level at Ford but have not heard anything back yet.
While driving my f150, v6 ecoboost engine, down the interstate, when I try to accelerate, the truck to pass vehicles and or move out of the way of on coming traffic, the engine gives me nothing and shutters, feels like it is missing. I originally started to feel this in 2013, took it to the dealership, cause I thought it could be a transmission issue, and the service rep only asked if a light came on and if none has come on, probably won't show anything. I am outside of my warranty now and the truck is shuttering very badly when I try to accelerate anywhere, besides my gas mileage has dropped significantly, which now can become a epa issue. I have read about a lot of issues concerning this year Ford with same engine with no outcomes. I have been told, once again that if I don't have a check engine light, then it probably wont show a code. I don't know where else to turn but to at least have a complaint filed where there is an issue with the 2011 Ford f150 v-6 ecoboost engine.
Accelerating onto the highway, experienced loss of power while check engine light was flashing. Cars were swerving around me due to my speed being slower than the flow of traffic. I put hazards on and pulled over. This is not safe for me or drivers around me. Dealer said it was an engine misfire and replaced the spark plug and coil. Since this incident it has happened multiple times. The dealer replaced another spark plug and coil. I took it in the last time and they flashed my computer and sent me on my way. The problem is still not fixed on my truck.
I own a 2011 Ford F-150 ecoboost and have had issues that Ford wishes to ignore and which I consider a serious safety hazard. Approx. Oct 16, 2013, while driving on interstate during rainy weather, I accelerated to pass, on the left, a tt/st that was in the right lane. As I started to pass, at approx. 3500 rpm, the engine stalled and the check engine light flashed. I was nearly rear ended by the vehicle that was behind me, due to the stall and sudden deceleration. I brought the vehicle to the Ford dealer on several occasions and to this date the same thing occurs , only this time the check engine light stays on. Ford's fix is to replace the coil and all six spark plugs at a cost of $400, stating the issue is a maintenance issue not covered under warranty (vehicle still under warranty). Ford refuses to recognize the danger this problem creates for the occupants and would rather use a band-aid approach, rather than fix the problems , which appears to be moisture dumped into the engine from the cold-air-charge(intercooler) for the turbos. I have done my homework and have found this to be a common issue and in most cases, Ford replaces the ignition coil and spark plugs , only to have the same thing happen again. Again , Ford is putting the occupants of these vehicles at risk caused by the sudden deceleration and refuses to do the right thing and repair the problem.
2011 F-150 with 3. 5 liter ecoboost engine. Truck had been driven approximately 20 miles in the rain. Stopped at a traffic light and then proceeded to turn left. Accelerated up a hill on a 2 line highway and truck began to shake violently and lost all power in a moving lane of traffic. A check engine light came on. Pulled to the side of road and after a minute truck cleared up and drove normal. Currently the truck surges under moderate acceleration and in 3rd gear will go into limp mode and lose all power. Only occurs under moderate acceleration.
Returning home from a weekend camping trip with my family and pulling a travel trailer via I-81 in va, I depressed the accelerator approaching a long hill, and abruptly lost all engine and drive power, the engine shuddered violently, the transmission downshifted to lower gear and the check engine light flashed a few times. We had absolutely no power and I thought the engine was going to shut off. I was in the 2nd lane from the right and had to quickly move to the right lane then to the shoulder to avoid being hit from behind. This was very dangerous while pulling a 34' travel trailer. I had to pull the vehicle to the shoulder and stop completely to regain control. I had to put the truck in park and turn it off before it returned to somewhat normal drivability. While continuing to climb the uphill grade, the engine misfired and hesitated constantly. I could only apply gently pressure to the accelerator to keep the vehicle moving. Once over the hill the vehicle picked up speed and returned to normal drivability for the remainder of the trip. The same exact problem occurred again a few months later while driving south on rt-4 in MD with my wife, and not pulling a trailer. This time I didn't shut the engine off, but had to pull to the shoulder to regain control and engine power. As I continued on rt4 the engine misfired and hesitated several more miles. Once at my destination I turned the vehicle off, then upon departure the vehicle operated more normal, but experienced misfire and hesitations several mile returning home. The next day the vehicle operated normally, but I took it to the Ford dealership to have it repaired. This is a very unsafe situation and makes me very leary driving this vehicle on a normal basis. If I was accelerating while crossing the highway and this problem happened, there is a great chance of getting into an accident or causing one.
The vehicle experienced a rough idle then upon acceleration, severe shuddering and lack of power. Check engine light turned on and began flashing. Vehicle is equipped with a 3. 5l gtdi engine. Vehicle then continued to experience complete lack of power and shudder while being driven to the dealership.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 62 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently and decrease speed. The check engine light illuminated simultaneously. The vehicle was not taken for inspection or repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
During acceleration to merge onto the highway, my F-150 lost power. The engine began to sputter, the check engine light illuminated, and the truck lost power. An 18-wheeler behind me had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting my vehicle as I moved it to the shoulder of the road. I took the vehicle into the Ford dealership and they performed tsb13-8-1. As of today (4/28/2014), the issue has not been resolved. I just took my truck back into the dealership to have another TSB performed. This time, I had to pay $100 because my powertrain warranty had expired. My main concern is that the TSB's that Ford is issuing are inadequate. I have been told that the cause of power loss is moisture that builds up inside the intercooler. The last fix was to place a piece of plastic over the intercooler in an attempt to raise internal temperatures and prevent moisture from building up. It did not work. . . And my mpg went down by 1. 8 (average) with the fix. My main concern is that Ford will continue to release inadequate solutions to this problem, and once my esp has run out, I will be left with a truck that doesn't work and with no other choice but to pay for expenses 100% out of pocket. Hopefully something is done to prevent this from happening. I am not a very satisfied customer at this time.
While accelerating to 75mph or so, up slight hill from 65-70 mph went to pass a vehicle then truck lost vast majority of power even with all the way down and began to violently shake. Could have easily cause accident since wasn't abble to accelerate as planned to match speed of other lane. Check engine light came on. Truck continued to shake violently off and on for next mile before stopping. Problem is still ongoing under any moderate acceleration that goes over ~2000 rpm.
Was on the interstate just west of st. Louis, driving at 70 mph. Was a damp rainy day. Pulled in to the passing lane to pass a semi and truck lost power, went into "limp mode" with check engine light on. I pulled back into my lane and then off to the shoulder. Turned the truck off and sat for 5 - 10 minutes. When I powered it back up, the check engine light was off. I was able to pull back onto the highway and had full power for the rest of my trip. This is the third time this problem has occurred with this truck. Both other incidents were in damp or rainy weather at highway speeds when passing or merging onto highway.
Loss of significant power under slight to moderate acceleration, engine shutters violently, shakes and miss-fires. Check engine light flashes. Engine seems to run on 50% power loss, letting off accerator for awhile then engine seems to recover temporarly until additional power is needed. Unable to have any confidence to pass any vehicles on grades. Quite possible for complete power loss under full acceleration as the engine misses so bad that it actually slows down and looses rpm's. I have owned this truck since new. Symtoms started in dry climate, no rain and have continued to get worse as I have entered into rainy areas with humidity.
2011 f150 ecoboost at 57k miles mid July 2013 experienced violent shuddering lose of power pulling up hill at 60 mph. Engine light came on. Taken to dealership where repair was listed as #2 coil pack costed $277. Now Jan 2014 six months and 13k miles later same event. Check engine light came on twice while driving to work. Used on board diagnosic tool I had purchased and truck coded p0303 as #3 cylinder misfire obviously the #3 coil pack has gone bad at 70k miles.
Was high speed accelerating in NJ from one hwy to another. Long on-ramp. During acceleration from about 40-45mph to get to 65 highway speed, the truck acceleration stopped truck shook, speed declined and the check engine light came on. I let off accelerator and 3-4 seconds later shaking stopped and check engine went off. I slowly came back on with accelerator and issue stopped. Weather conditions was rainy/wet/humid about 60f ~ 1000am. This is 3rd time has happened. First time was shortly after receiving truck new in 2011 ~ April in same conditions and second time about 1 year after that. First time and this time I took to local Ford dealer and they found no codes. This recent I also started losing mpg from normally ~16. 9 mpg and down to 12 mpg now. Dealer said they relayed info to Ford and said replace spark plugs as no codes. I have others who have same truck bought for a company fleet with sequential VIN's that have had same issue and had catalytic converters replaced. My dealer said Ford refused.
The first time this happened, my husband was pulling out into a center turn lane in order to merge with traffic and the motor cut out and bogged down. Just four days later, I had the same experience where the motor completely cut out while I was going through a yield sign, slowing down, and then getting on the accelerator to increase speed. I counted between 3-5 seconds before the truck started accelerating again. This is very dangerous and had someone been right behind me it could've been a bad wreck. It happened to me this first time right after I picked my truck up from the dealership and them telling me my VIN didn't qualify for the TSB with replacing the cac (intercooler) and adding the air deflector plate. I have since gone to a second dealership and they are performing the TSB for me after having my truck for 5 days now, and being able to reproduce the problem easily. I hope this fixes it. I've already had a check engine light come on and my driver's side catalytic converter was replaced. I've had numerous leaks all under the 36,000 mile warranty - front main seal, transmission leak, rear diff leak, and even some deteriorating rubber gaskets in the doors, and am seriously questioning Ford's quality these days.
Accelerating onto interstate from on ramp, sudden loss of power, vehicle shuddered, lost power and speed. Vehicles around me on interstate had to swerve to avoid hitting truck. Truck gradually regained speed over next 1/4 to 1/2 mile. Approximately 24 hours and 400 miles later the check engine light came on.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the steering wheel shook violently. The vehicle also decelerated independently. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and as it proceeded to perform without further incident. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 41,000.
When getting on the highway with pedal all the way down start to get shutter at 4100 rpm through 2nd gear and then when it is in 3rd gear at the same rpm it will shutter even worse and then sometimes the check engine light will come on and start blinking for up to a min and then the truck will not move at all.
Under hard acceleration on the highway, the engine began to cut out and misfire, then the check engine light began to flash. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they said the innercooler had failed and needed to be replaced. Now, at roughly 55,000 miles it has begun to do it again, I had noticed it some before, but now it is worse. I took my 2011 f150 with the ecoboost to the dealership again and they said a TSB had been written and they changed the replaced the lower air deflector. This actually made the problem worse. At wide open throttle from a stop to about 80 mph, every gear will cut out and sometimes put the engine into a protection mode beginning around 4,000 rpm. If it shakes and shudders made enough the check engine light will flash, and now it has come on and stayed on. It has been very dangerous if I pull out to make a pass and then the engine shuts down and I can no longer accelerate. This has happened dozens of times, and has been addressed twice now by the dealership without any fix.
2011 Ford f150 fx4 eco boost road conditions - dry. External temperature - approximately 35f. Highway on ramp accelerating to merge. The motor hesitated for a few seconds before kicking in, the front end felt like it was slipping while trying to accelerate as well. As the truck passed approximately 65 mph the engine lost power and began to shake violently, the check engine light came on as well. I had to keep the truck around 45 mph to avoid the shaking for about 5 minutes before it stopped and the engine light turned off. I noticed a slight burning smell and the engine didn¿t sound like it did prior to the incident. If someone had been behind me on the ramp, or I was passing a vehicle in poor road conditions or in busy traffic there is a strong possibility I would have been in an accident of some sort, most likely a rear end collision.
On I-70 near st. Louis, I was in the inside lane and when I press the gas pedal to pass with my F-150 ecoboost, the truck lost power and had almost completely shut itself off and the check engine light came on. I had to shut it down and let it set for almost 20 minutes before it would restart correctly and check engine light would go off. By luck I had enough room to move over on the median of the highway.
When attempting to pass a slower moving vehicle, I moved into the left pass lane and pushed on the gas, the truck began to shudder violently, lose power, and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership where I bought it and they did the intercooler fix. After that the problem continued. Check engine light came on, took back to dealership, they told me it was a spark plug, replaced it, on the drive home same problem, engine shudders violently, loses power, goes into limp mode, and check engine light either flashes or goes solid. I have had this problem since the day I purchased the truck new from the dealer.
Dates and mileage are close but aprox. This is going on now and Ford has been unable to fix the problem after being in for repair multiple times. This is a constant problem with truck now. The first occurrence I was taking off from a light and went to accelerate and truck started hesitating and check engine light came on. Ford said it was intercooler and fixed that but drove truck from dealership and did not get 1/4mile down road before it hesitated again. Then Ford said it was coil pack and seemed to fix it but then it started right back up within a month.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that his check engine light illuminated on his instrumental panel the vehicle stalled shortly after the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer was able to determine that the interior lining of the fuel tank had shed into his gasoline tank causing it to seep inside and damage the engine. The dealer stated that both fuel tanks would have to be replaced and the engine would need to be clean. Two years later, after the contact's vehicle was out of warranty, the failure reoccured. The dealer confirmed the vehicle would require the same revision as before, however, it would be preformed at the contact's expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 18,000. Az.
I had just turned onto the on ramp of the turnpike. There was heavy traffic and I needed to accelerate quickly to avoid a semi truck traveling in the right lane. As I pushed the pedal down the truck began to shake violently and lost power. The check engine light came on and I had to swerve to the emergency lane to avoid a collision. This loss of power has happened multiple times since then. At first on hard acceleration and then it became common at any level of acceleration. As of this writing the dealer has done his best to fix the problem but there seems to be a shortage of parts from the manufacturer. Ford needs to step up to the plate and either buy these vehicles back or find a reliable fix. If it is water entering the engine as their initial investigation says, are they going to cover that damage if any?.
My 2011 f150 is equipped with the ecoboost engine and has had problems since new. During long drives when it is wet out the truck loses power, stumbles and the check engine light comes on. On one occasion I was making a pass and the problem occurred, creating a very dangerous situation due to extreme loss of power. After a minute or so it seems to re-set but the check engine light stays on and fuel economy is poor. I have had my truck back to Ford at least 4 times for this issue and every time I get a different story. I think this issue effects a lot more f150's than reported since the vehicle needs to be driven a long time in wet conditions and then the problem will occur under hard acceleration. Fords has told me many solutions to the problem from a bad coil, catalytic converter, intercooler, air cooler ect. Ect. I get a different story every time I take it back. My big problem is my truck now has 47000 miles on it and out of warranty.
