1 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

The drivers side front started leaking brake fluid. Before I saw that I was parked, started up the vehicle and stepped on the brake pedal to shift into reverse. The brake pedal felt loose and went all the way to the floor. I then examined the exterior, where I saw the leaking. To me this fits the recall for the brakes/cylinder, but my vehicle does not fall within the correct date of manufactoring. It is a 2014 Ford F-150 with the 3. 5 ecoboost it has barely 80k miles. I have never had a brake issue on a vehicle before especially one under 100k. I think they need to expand the recall. I would be willing to offer up my broken parts for them to look at. I was lucky the vehicle was parked and I was Smart enough to get out and look as I noticed something was wrong.

2 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2020

Nhtsa recall 16v-345 8/11/20, I encountered the defect described in the above srreport. The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of brake fluid with the resulting visual and audible alarms. I verified at that time that the reservoir in the master cylinder was empty and that the brake fluid had leaked from the reservoir. Additional brake fluid was added and the brakes were cycled to attempt to get braking performance back. 3 cups of fluid leaked from the reservoir with no visible liquid on the outside of the reservoir or anywhere else under the vehicle. There was leakage into the brake booster. Nhtsa 16v-345 states: owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the brake master cylinder replaced. Additionally, the brake booster will be replaced if the brake master cylinder is leaking. sr 16s24 states as to remedy: owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the brake master cylinder replaced additionally the brake booster will be replaced if the brake master cylinder is leaking. took the vehicle to a Ford dealer (classic Ford of columbia). After the dealer completing their evaluation, I was advised that the master cylinder had failed and needed to be replaced and that, the brake booster needed to be replaced. The brake booster was stated to be at my expense and not covered by the recall. I pointed out to the dealer that I wanted the master cylinder and the brake booster repaired under the recall. Upon delivery I inquired and was advised that the brake booster was not replaced because it did not need to be. I had been advised that it needed to be replaced when they were wanting me to pay for it. Complaint: the recall indicates that the brake booster will be replaced if the master cylinder is leaking. It was. The action is not discretionary. Ford has failed to perform what was required by the recall program.

3 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2020

On July 19, 2020 ~3:30p, I was traveling on CA 134 w transitioning to CA 101 n. As I applied the brakes the pedal went straight to the floor with no braking effect being initiated. Vigorously pumping the brakes resulted in virtually no braking effect. Turning the emergency flashers on, I then allowed the vehicle to coast to a stop on the shoulder of the CA 101 north and awaited for roadside assistance. There was no previous braking performance issue, annunciator warning, or alarm of any form to suggest a pending issue. Only upon the actual failure itself did a display message show up on the dash. That message read something like "brake fluid low". As I waited for roadside assistance, I took a moment to inspect the area under the vehicle looking for evidence of any dripping or leaking fluids. There was none and the vehicle was otherwise well maintained with approximately 60,000 miles on it. I contacted aaa for an emergency tow. When the aaa flatbed truck arrived, the driver, bill, asked the nature of the problem and I informed him it was a virtual 100% brake failure. After he loaded the truck onto the flat bed, he noted with surprise that the vehicle had indeed lost 100% of its brakes. Aaa towed the vehicle to their nearest service center located at 5451 tujunga Ave, north hollywood (los angeles), CA. When the there, dan, the technician/owner in charge, spoke with me after his initial inspection, he was surprised to find the vehicle had 100% brake failure with no evidence of any external leaks. He did note that the brake fluid reservoir was empty but there was no leaks. He surmised that the fluid must have leaked "internally" and thereafter indicated he would do no work on the vehicle, believing that Ford needed to analyze the failure. My 91 year old passenger and I were lucky to have not been the cause of a major highway accident.

4 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2020

My trucks breaks went to the floor board. No breaks, I barley missed being t-boned. I had new breaks about a 2 months ago. No break fluid but no leakage on the ground. My son told me if could be the master cyclinder so I looked it up to see how much one cost and seen recalls on 2014 f150 for failure of master cyclinder but my VIN is not listed. Help please.

5 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

Husband was driving our 2014 f150 truck and was stopped at a stop light; break peddle went completely to floor. When he got home, it was discovered that break fluid was leaking from the front right compartment. Confirmed with Ford that our truck was not part of the recall 16s24, but was built in the dearborn plant during the same time frame as the trucks that were recalled and there is still a wide scope of vehicles that are not within the scope of the recall having the same issue. Truck VIN is 1ftfw1cf6ek18365.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2019

While driving on the freeway, brake fluid low light appeared followed by loss of brakes. Had to use emergency brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of me. Had vehicle towed to nearest Ford dealership. Mechanics stated that the brake fluid leaked internally between the booster and master cylinder.

7 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

While driving to work I got a warning engine in my truck that indicated I had a problem with my brakes. I took it straight to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the problem. All of the brake fluid had leaked into the brake booster and had been burnt off in the engine. He told me that there was a recall, but I would have to check with Ford. I took the truck to the dealership I purchased it from and was told that even though I had experienced the exact failure described in recall#16v345000, and even though my truck is the exact make & model included in the recall that my VIN was not included and therefore would not be covered under the recall. My truck is 5 years old and only has 42k miles on it. Ford is offering to replace the master cylinder & brake booster for a cost of $1032 +tax. With an independent mechanic's diagnosis and Ford service departments same diagnosis that the failure and the make & model are identical, I do not understand why my truck is not covered under the recall and request a further investigation as to why Ford is not responsible for the replacement of the failed components.

8 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

After taking a 100 mile trip truck was parked for 24 hours. As I started vehicle information screen showed a low brake fluid level and a brake warning light on. After exploring the master cylinder was extremely. After examining all brake lines and the ground for leaking fluid ther was none/wet spots any where. I went to a care store with a different vehicle I added 12 fluid ounces of dot 4 brake fluid. After testing the brakes depressing the brake pedal 4 or 5 times the pedal stayed very soft and depessed all the way to the floor. Once again the master cylinder was empty of fluid wit absolutely no oil visible on the truck or on ground . Had vehicle towed to a repair facility. I was told by the mechanic that master cylinder fail and all fluid accumulated in the booster pump. I am aware the Ford has recalled 2013/2014 ff-150 with the 3. 5 engine for the same problem. .

9 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

After pulling out of the parking lot of the place we stayed and driving 1/2 mile on a 2 lane road, I attempted to pull over at a gas station for gas before getting onto the interstate. I noticed the brake pedal was very spongy and braking was barely responsive. The pedal was pressed to the floor and then the check brakes indicator message dinged on the truck's info display as I was slowly able to pull into the gas station. After using the e-brake to assist in bringing the truck to a stop, I placed the truck in park and raised the hood. I checked the brake fluid reservoir level and it was well below the minimum line and was close to completely empty. I crawled under the vehicle to visually inspect for leaks of any kind from the brake lines following them up to the brake booster and brake master cylinder with no presence of any leaking brake fluid. I added a total of 2 quarts of dot 4 brake fluid to the reservoir in the hopes that maybe the system was just low somehow. I drove the truck back to the park we had just left only a little over a half mile away and parked the vehicle as the braking was still greatly diminished. As it is the weekend, I have been unable to get the vehicle serviced. I have called the Ford recall help line and was told that my truck was not included in the 2013-2014 f150 vehicle recall even though it is the 3. 5 ecoboost model and was built using the identical brake components that were recalled by Ford. Based on the description of the brake master cylinder failure conditions indicated in the 16s24 Ford recall and the conditions I am experiencing with my vehicle's brake failure, I am confident these conditions are related and the brake master cylinder has failed flooding the brake booster with brake fluid.

10 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

Driving in the new orleans french quarter, audible warning tone and visual indicator said "brake fluid low". Added one container of brake fluid, proceeded 1/2 mile. Again, audible warning and visual indicator showed low brake fluid. Added fluid to line in container. 1 mile, same indicators. Upon inspection, all brake fluid has leaked into the brake booster. No visible leak or fluid on the ground. This could have caused a serious accident. There is a recall on this for the same year vehicle but it supposedly does not include this VIN #. Apparently it should.

11 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While reversing the vehicle, the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact drove the vehicle back onto the driveway, inspected the vehicle, and found that the brake fluid was leaking through the brake lines. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle's warranty was expired. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

12 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2018

At 61,000 miles, while driving on the highway, my master cylinder suffered a sudden catastrophic failure (total brake fluid leak). This resulted in required replacement of entire front braking system at dealership.

13 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2018

Was at wendy's drive through after grocery shopping and brake light came on thought brake fluid was just low. By the time I was almost home maybe 2-3 miles away I had no brakes at all pedal went all the way to floor. When traveling around 50 miles an hour and you realize you have no brakes it's a very scary situation. I was able to get truck stopped but wasn't sure if it actually would. Per looking online other people with same model Ford trucks have experienced same exact issue where brake fluid leaks from master cylinder into brake booster causing brake failure. Very very dangerous Ford should issue recall!.

14 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2018

On the night of July 12 2018, I took my wife and my 3yr old to a store in my 2014 f150 with only 37,300 miles, everything felt normal on the truck with no indications of any mechanical problems. On our way back home while on the highway at about 65mph I put my foot on the brake to slow down for a merging car and my foot went clear to the floor board and no brakes what so ever, at the same time a warning came on the dash that said brake fluid level low. This could have ended horrible if it would have been around rush hour. Luckily there was light traffic and I was able to stop the truck with the transmission and emergency brake. After this was over I checked the brake cylinder and it was empty, I know it was full but there were no signs of leaks, after filling it back up I took it for a drive and in just 2 miles it was empty again with mo brakes. The tech at the Ford dealer said the master cylinder and brake booster went out and that the fluid leaked into the booster. This didnt just put my life in danger, it was also my wife and 3yr old and any driver around me. How does a truck loose something as important as the brakes at only 37,000 miles?.

15 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

My brake fluid light went off while on the highway. I turned around to head home and within ten minutes I had lost all breaking ability. Had the truck towed to the local dealership where it was diagnosed as break fluid leaking from the master cylinder into break boost and then repaired by replacing a number of parts. I understand that my truck wasn't included in the recall of the same issue because it was manufactured two months after the recall dates, but I am concerned that my truck should have been included!.

16 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

Breakers completely failed. Break fluid leaks out with no visible leaks.

17 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

I was driiving on I-55 nb at mm 120 on sat 6/2/2018. The low brake fluid warning light came on as my brakes stopped workig. Fortunately I had an RV which did still have brakes. There was no brake fluid in sytem and no visible leaks. I added 2 cans of fluid but it was gone in 2 miles. The truck was towed tothe Ford dealer in bloominton, IL. And on Monday I was told ithe brake fluid was leaking into the brake booster. I see online there is a recall for this exact problem ( your #16v345000) (Ford #16s24). The dealer says my VIN is not covered but I lost my brakes at 60 mph and feel it should be covered, it's the same issue.

18 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

I was driving the truck on a street and heard an audible chime, a full screen message center alert appeared, and illumination of the red brake warning indicator. Mechanic identified this as same issue as NHTSA campaign: 16v345000 or Ford recall program code: 16s24 : brake master cylinders failure resulting in brake fluid leakage from the primary reservoir into the brake booster. Loss of brake fluid from the primary reservoir results in a complete loss of front brake function, increasing the risk of a crash. I'm trying to determine why this truck is not considered part of the known recall, the truck meets the recall specs and was manufactured at the plant specified in attached document from Ford. The only difference is this truck indicates a build date of 9/8/2014 and recall date end is 8/31/2014. The truck still experienced recall brake failure, I'd request that the recall date be extended to include trucks built after 8/31/2014.

19 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2017

Driving to work, the brake fluid warning message was displayed. When I arrived at work the brake fluid reservoir was completely empty. The dealer stated the master cylinder and the booster were defective and needed to be replaced. The brake fluid had leaked into the booster. I had no braking capability, fortunately I had already arrived at work when I lost all braking capability. There is a recall on master cylinders and brake boosters on 2013-2014 f150's with v6 engines but mine is a v8 so it's not part of the recall. I had to pay my $100 deductible and use my extended warranty to have my vehicle repaired. A truck that's not even 3 years old with 37k should not be experience complete brake failure.

20 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2017

My truck experienced complete brake failure while towing an enclosed auto trailer on the highway -- low brake fluid warning light illuminated on the dash. I was able to bring the vehicle and trailer to an emergency stop at a service station and refill the brake master cylinder reservoir (it was almost empty). It then happened again once back on the highway. I made it to a Ford dealership, only being able to slow and stop the vehicle using the brakes on the trailer. The dealer found that all the brake fluid had leaked into the brake booster -- the exact same problem for which Ford issued a recall on similar makes/models (manf. Recall number: 16s24). They were able to source a new brake master cylinder and replace it under warranty. Note that my vehicle was not included in the original Ford brake recall, but I strongly believe it should have been. My wife and I were exposed to a potentially life-threatening situation that would have been avoided if Ford had widened the recall to other models.

21 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

Started vehicle in my parking spot at work, only to see the brake fluid low indicated on the display screen. Selected ok, depressed the brake pedal which travelled all the way to the floor. Opened hood and checked master cylinder fluid reservoir and found it almost empty. Contacted joe cooper Ford, yukon and talked with service manager. He indicated there is a known problem with the master cylinder leaking fluid past the seal. He suggested the vehicle be towed to dealership for analysis as Ford has a recall on this very issue. Tech pulled master cylinder and found brake booster filled with brake fluid. Service advisor suggested master cylinder replacement at a cost of approx. $750. 00. When questioned about warranty, I was advised my model does not meet the criteria as currently posted by Ford as my vehicle is a 5. 0l not a 3. 8l v-6. When asked about the condition of the brake booster due to chemical contamination, the advisor was unsure what to do. He suggested I communicate with the service manager about both the repair method and costs. After reviewing the recall I found Ford recommends; if the brake booster had any fluid both the master cylinder and booster should be replaced. I contacted the dealership to discuss the options and complete the repair. I am requesting the parts be returned to Ford for warranty evaluation/consideration. I cannot logically understand why the engine type makes a difference on the braking system. I am awaiting a report from Ford on this matter.

22 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 70 mph, the low brake fluid sensor suddenly illuminated. Moments later, while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard and the vehicle would not immediately stop. The driver used the emergency brake to reduce the speed and stop the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty; however, there was no evidence of brake fluid leaking. After refilling the reservoir with fluid, the brakes appeared to work momentarily before the failure recurred. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

23 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

While driving 70 mph on the 408 expressway in orlando FL, I (along with wife and kids) spotted traffic congestion ahead. When I applied brakes I realized my brakes didn't work. An error flashed on my dashboard saying low brake fluid level. Using the emergency brake and downshifting the vehicle I was able to come to a safe start using the medium. When I took my vehicle to Ford I was told the brake fluid leaked into the brake booster from the master cylinder causing the failure in my brakes. There weren't any leaks visible from the exterior of the vehicle. I was told there is a recall on trucks similar to mine for the same issue but for some reason my truck was not covered under the recall. I had to pay Ford to get the vehicle fixed.

24 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that there was a loss of brake fluid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The dealer indicated that the master cylinder failed and caused brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. The dealer indicated that the part was not in production yet to receive the repair. After keeping the vehicle for a day, the dealer indicated that they had the brake booster and the master cylinder to replace the part. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. The contact was uncertain if the same part was replaced and not the newly designed part because the dealer and the manufacturer stated it was not yet in production. The contact was unable to confirm that the remedy was provided by the dealer. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

25 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2016

My vehicle parked in my driveway. When I got in it to leave the brake pedal pushed down to the floor and the "low brake fluid" indicator came on. When I checked the brake fluid the fluid reservoir was empty. I had absolutely no brakes front or rear. When I filled the reservoir the brake fluid leaked out immediately from somewhere in the master cylinder without the truck even running or depressing the brake pedal. I had the truck towed to my dealer. The tow truck driver told me I was the second 2014 f150 he had towed today for the same brake issue. My dealer informed me that there was a recall out on it but I have received no notifications from Ford. This is an incredibly dangerous situation and if I had been driving when the brake fluid emptied out of the master cylinder it could have been catastrophic.

26 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

Driver was in route to a locations when the brake light became illuminated and brake pedal started to feel spongy. Driver was able to safely pull over and insect the brake fluid reservoir which was very low. Driver did a visual inspection and did not see any fluid leaks.

27 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 60 mph, the brake fluid warning light illuminated. When attempting to slow the vehicle down to come to a complete stop, the contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floor of the vehicle. The vehicle took longer than anticipated to come to a complete stop. The contact filled the vehicle with brake fluid and had it towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that brake fluid was leaking from the master cylinder into the brake booster. The master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

28 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

I got into my truck, started it - nothing unusual. Put the truck in reverse, it started back, I pressed the brake - the pedal went to the floor without stopping the vehicle. I believe it was probably idling a little higher than normal in warm-up mode. I had to engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting a fence. The low brake fluid warning came up afterwards, followed by a brake system red warning. I investigated, then had a mechanic neighbor assist me. There was no brake fluid leak evident - no apparent damaged brake lines or components. The neighbor indicated it was most likely an issue with the booster / master cylinder or the vacuum line. I put about 90 ounces of fluid in the reservoir during the trip to the dealership and it was 3/4 empty when I arrived. Still no external leak evident. The dealership treated the repair as a warranty item, and told me the fluid was saturating the booster which had failed. They replaced both the booster and the master cylinder. Allstar Ford: prairieville, louisiana.

29 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

While driving along a city street the brake fluid level low message came on while at the same time the brake light lit up on console. At this point had I had no brakes. Depressing brake pedal to the floor board only marginally slowed the vehicle. I was able to get it to a safe location without incidence. The dealer mechanic found the master cylinder had leaked and fluid drained into the brake booster. They replaced the master cylinder and booster. The vehicle only has approximately 29k miles.

30 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving 20 mph, the brakes failed and brake fluid leaked into the master cylinder. The brake fluid light illuminated. The issue recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 45,000.

31 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

After driving to work I was existing the freeway, a low break fluid warning light can on. I proceeded about 4 blocks to the office I was working at, and parked the truck. When it was time to leave I started to back out of the parking stall and had a complete loss of brakes. I had to shift to park to stop the truck. With the truck in park I checked the brakes again and the pedal when all the way to the floor. I turned off the truck and called Ford road side service. I checked the brake fluid tank and it was completely empty, with no signs of any fluid leaking on the ground. After waiting 3 hours for a tow truck to arrive we finally got it out of the garage and delivered it to Ford of bellevue, in washington state. The service adviser informed me that since I had about 37,500 miles on it it was not covered under the Ford 36,000 mile warranty. He said he would be in touch with me about what was wrong.

32 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Took grandkids to soccer practice and brakes failed. Pushed pedal and it went to floor. Pumped pedal and regained brake power. Fluid low indicator came on, so I put fluid in and limped 1 mile home. . . The no fluid light came on and no brakes. There is no indication of fluid leaking in the wheels or master cylinder.

33 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2016

Truck was parked on a hill and when I returned I got message low brake fluid and had no brakes. I added brake fluid and within 2 minutes it all leaked out, but nothing on the ground. Had truck towed and the Ford service department said all the brake fluid had leaked from the master cylinder to the brake booster. Both were replaced by local Ford dealership under warranty. Truck had 10,000 miles at the time. Seems like this is the same issue many others have had. Very dangerous. Hopefully a recall will be done before somebody dies because of it.

34 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2015

Lost all braking unexpectedly. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor and I immediately hade no brakes whatsoever. . Read more...

35 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

While checking engine oil noticed a "sucking" noise coming from the brake fluid reservoir and noted it was empty. Added some additional dot 4 fluid up to the min mark and within 30 minutes it was empty again. Traced all the brake lines and inspected the brake calipers and no leaks noted. Went to start the truck to move it and the low brake fluid light illuminated and the brake pedal when pressed went to the floor. No other signs of brake issues prior to this point. Had the vehicle towed to a Ford dealership and they stated that the master brake cylinder and brake booster are defective and need to be replaced. The brake fluid was leaking into the brake booster and collecting there hence no visible leakage. Fortunately the incident occurred in my driveway, but if it had occurred on the road who knows what the results would have been. The truck has ~21,800 miles and was purchased new in November 2014 with a build date in August 2014. Quick search on the internet has turned up similar instances with the same year, make, model, and ~ mileage.
