1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2021

My 2014 f150 listed above is having braking issues. The pedal is hard as a rock at times and you have to put all of your weight into stopping the vehicle. When this occurs it makes a gurggling sound out at the brake booster. Upon viewing some mechanical sites on the net this has been a recall for this year model truck as the master cylinder could be leaking into the booster and or the brake booster has gone bad. I put in my vehicle VIN and it shows zero recalls for my truck. How can this be when it's exactly what has happened to others of the same year regaurdless of where it was built. My 17 year old son drove this to school today and almost hit another vehicle upon parking as the pedal got so hard he could hardly stop the truck from hitting them, the light did come on in the dash panel but went out. Will this be a recall in the near future before someone is seriously injured? are we supposed to get this fix at our expense? please contact us at your earliest convenience to help us with this matter.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

I recently had my low brake fluid warning come on, didn't think much of it at the time and added some dot4 fluid to my reservoir. Looked things over briefly, the reservoir seemed intact, master cylinder didn't appear wet, no spots on the garage floor, so all was good. After all the truck is 6+ years old, I just figured the time had just come to service the fluid and have the brakes looked at. Two weeks later I hadn't had time to get it to the shop and the warning appeared again. So I checked the reservoir and sure enough it was low again. So this time my investigation was deeper and I found fluid on the bottom of the master cylinder when I wiped my hand under it. The found more below the master cylinder on the shock mount and inner fender well. So I started shopping and checking prices on parts I might need to fix this and happened on this article on today's google, about a recall. So I went to the ntsb web site and checked my VIN #. Nope no recall for my VIN #. Went back to the article and reread it. So it seams that my 2014 with the made in dearborn sticker still in the front window is not part of the recall that describes my problem to the t ! I certainly believe it does, as do the pro's I've shown. I'm an a&p faa ndt inspector and deal with these very issues in the airline business daily and think there might be an oversight to the number of trucks included in the recall. I plan to go ahead with my repairs because I need it, but hope you will examine your scope of this more closely. Thanks for the service you provide to keep us safe!.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2020

On 11/15/2020 the brake pedal in my 2014 Ford f150 with ecoboost went to the floor while waiting at a stop light. The brake pedal could be pumped up, however would bleed off to the floor with constant moderate pressure. With no external leaks, this indicates a failed master cylinder. I see there are two recalls on the 2014 Ford f150 with ecoboost that cover all of the 2014 model except for trucks built in June and July 2014. Master cylinder failures and leaks are common in 2014 f150 with ecoboost and this is extremely unsafe. Luckily although I had 3 other passengers and towing a utility trailer no one was injured. Currently my truck is in the small gap between two recalls. This is unsatisfactory and Ford motor company should be held to account and provide vehicles with basic safety equipment in proper operating order.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

Brake pedals when pressed went right to the floor. The vehichile was stationary in my driveway. Had it towed to a Ford dealership. They replaced the master cylinder and booster pump. I have a f150 eco 3. 5.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

While coming to a stop and applying the brakes, I've noticed over the last several days that the brakes have become soft, almost going completely to the floor at times. Also, while stopped and applying the brakes, the brake pedal slowly sinks towards the floor. I have check the truck for possible leaks and have found none apparent. The reservoir is down a bit but again, no visible leaks. I checked Ford's site for a possible recall and it says there is none. However, I know there is some 2013 and 2014 models with a master cylinder recall. I'm thinking maybe the recall didn't include enough vehicles because it sounds like my truck is having the same issue.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2020

We had sold the house and were moving. Truck was parked in front of house with travel trailer attached to hitch. Preparing to drive away, and had no brakes. Checked brake fluid and had none. Took other car to purchase, came back and filled, and brake fluid all drained out. Had to unhook trailer and have vehicle towed. Local dealer replaced master brake cylinder and booster the next day. Spent $719 plus finding accommodations for the night, dealer said there was no recall at that time. Drove nearly 600 miles, and that night we lost power. Andhad to have the truck towed again. This time they said it was a defective throttle body. Had to stay 1 night in a hotel, then 3 more nights in an RV park waiting for parts, and spent $445 in repairs. Our move was delayed several days with all of this, due to a truck that had less than 60,000 miles on it, and has been well maintained. I since inadvertently found out that master cylinder and booster have now been recalled, but I have to physically go to a Ford dealer to request a refund, and was told it could take 6-8 weeks. I was also told that it would not cover the throttle body. I don't understand how our truck that has not given us any problems before could have these two major issues back to back without them being related. All of this has set us back nearly $2000.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

There was a recall for a brake booster master cylinder in may of 2016. We bought the truck used in Dec 2017. The mileage was 35774 when the recall was done. We have been driving the truck and now the brake booster is out again. We replaced the front brakes thinking that was the problem but the booster started acting up again. After replacing the brakes, the pedal went to floor and had to be pumped to have brakes. I think they replaced it with yet another defective part. The truck is not driveable.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

Master cylinder leaking into brake booster.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

Master cylinder leaked into the brake booster causing brake failures. There is a recall on this but according to the Ford website my vehicle is not part of that recall.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Brake fluid level low alert received while driving. Arrived at destination within one mile. Upon return to vehicle one hour later and starting vehicle and reversing out of parking spot, the brake pedal went to floor when pressed and brakes did not work. Moved gear shift to park and vehicle stopped. Towed to Ford dealer who advised that master cylinder and brake booster had failed. No external leakage occurred.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Master cylinder failed and all the fluid drained out and into the power brake booster leaving me with no brakes. I was driving down the interstate at 70 mph when the warning low brake fluid level came on, luckily I made it home before I lost all braking functions. While diagnosing the problem I could not find the source of the leak so I searched the internet and found more people with the same things happening to trucks just like mine and even some were included in a recall but when searching my VIN unfortunately it was not included.

14 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving 70 mph, the brake fluid warning indicator illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, which failed to engage. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road and applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. When the contact turned the vehicle off and back on, it resumed normal operationg. The vehicle was taken to zeck Ford (4501 s 4th st, leavenworth, KS 66048, (800) 394-1650) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer stated that the brake master cylinder could possibly be the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: cas-22333089. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

2013-2014 brake master cylinder leaking into the brake booster. . . . My 2014 f150 has this same failure with 58k miles on the vehicle. It should be investigated and include this vehicle in the recall. My daughter was driving the vehicle this morning and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor when slowing to merge onto a us highway here in dagsboro, delaware 19939. Windshield wiper/turn signal switch recall. . . . This 2014 Ford f150 has the same symptoms as those that fall under the recall notice whereas the windshield wipers will all of a sudden come on and you cannot get it to turn off. No matter if you are moving or not this can occur sporadically without warning.

16 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2019

I had use the truck all weekend, it was running fine, parked it in my driveway. Started vehicle Monday morning and got a warning light saying "brake fluid low". I've never seen this light in my life, let alone since owning this truck. Pushed the brake pedal, and it went to the floor, there were no brakes. Checked the reservoir, there was no fluid. Called el cajon Ford, in CA. Told them I was having it towed in. In the meantime, got on line to research possible problems, found that there had been a recall for this exact problem. Got to the dealership and the service advisor acknowledged there had been a recall, but said he would need to inspect the truck. Called me back and confirmed this was the issue, but said my VIN was not one of the recalled vehicles. Same parts, same problem, but not covered. I called Ford customer service and waited two days for them to determine they were not going to cover this problem. This is a factory defect, not to mention a safety hazard, that is acknowledged by Ford, and they are not standing behind it. Was told it was only certain VIN made in certain plants. It's the master cylinder, that most likely made by one manufacturer and ships to all Ford plants,.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

Master cylinder dumping brake fluid into brake booster causing vehicle to have no fluid in resivor and no brake pedal. There was a recall on some 2014 models. Dealer who repaired mind said there is no open recall. I dont know if this was repaired before. This happened on highway 408 in florida. Orlando area.

18 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2019

Rear seal on brake master cylinder failed and all fluid went into brake booster resulting in complete loss of brakes. This was a huge recall but did not cover my vehicle. Emergency brake had to be used to stop the vehicle. I was on city street and narrowly avoided a crash at an intersection. Vehicle was towed to mel hambleton Ford in wichita KS. Diagnosed there and currently being repaired for approximately $800. Recall does not cover my VIN number and there is no warranty.

19 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

While driving, I had a "low brake fluid" light come on. When I approached the next intersection the brake pedal went almost all the way to the floor. I then pulled into a parking lot and the brakes failed completely having use the emergency brake to stop. I opened the hood and inspected the master cylinder and found that there was no brake fluid. I also noticed that when I removed the cap on the master cylinder the there was suction in the reservoir. My conclusion is that the master cylinder has failed and the brake fluid is being sucked into the brake booster. I called the Ford dealer service department and was told that there was no recall on this vehicle.

20 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving 2 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was towed to ken grody Ford carlsbad (located at 5555 paseo del norte, carlsbad, CA 92008, (760) 438-9171) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the master cylinder. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.

21 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 F-150. While driving 70 mph, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to stop. The emergency brake was engaged to stop the vehicle and the low brake fluid warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to five star Ford lewisville (1144 n stemmons fwy, lewisville, TX 75067, 469- 470-4900) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 88,030.

23 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

We were leaving to get lunch, came up to a stop sign at about 30mph with a car coming downhill on the road we were getting ready to take. I attempted to use my brakes to stop at the stop sign, I was unable to stop and had lost my brakes. There was a grinding noise and my foot that was on the brake was fully pressed. We rolled through the stop sign, cutting off the car. I found the brake booster, vacuum / master cylinder to be an issue after taking it to a mechanic and dealership. This was the second time I've had these parts replaced with about 9,000 miles difference between the two instances (the first instance was unreported to NHTSA). Ford was contacted but I was informed there was nothing that could be done due to my state's (ohio) lemon law.

24 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

Failed master cylinder dumped all brake fluid into booster, resulting in complete loss of braking. Only the parking brakes still work, and they perform terribly. Occurred without notice during highway driving.

25 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

While driving the driver was driving on the interstate, the car in front of him stopped. When the driver went to apply his brakes, the pedal went to the floor and he had no control of the brakes. He was able to avoid collision by pulling to the side of the road. The truck had to be towed to a dealership to be repaired. It was determined the brake booster and master cylinder failed and required replacement. Although we have several other 2014 F-150s that were included in recall 16s24, this one, we were told, was not. However, I believe it should have been.

26 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

The brakes suddenly went out while I was driving. I learned that the brake fluid in the master cylinder had leaked into the brake booster. There is no warning and it happens suddenly. In researching this, I learned there are thousands of Ford f150s that have the same problem.

27 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

Brake booster and brake master cylinder failed. Recall part on f150 with an eco boost but I have same vehicle with 5. 0 engine and same part failed. Need help as this safety part is recalled on some models.

28 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2018

I was driving about 35 mph and coming to a red light. I pressed the brake peddle and it went all the way to the floor. There was a warning chime and the dash illuminated a brake service warning and a low brake fluid level warning. There were virtually no brakes and I had to down shift the transmission and use the emergency brake to come to a stop, just in time before going through the intersection under a red light. We had the truck towed to a Ford dealership and they stated that all of the fluid in the master cylinder had leaked into the brake booster. They said that our truck did not meet the proper date to be taken care of under the known recall (NHTSA recall #16v-345, Ford recall #16s24) for the exact same problem. That recall ended on trucks built up to 8/14 and our truck was built on 12/14. We had to have the master cylinder and brake booster replaced under our extended warranty with only 22,901 miles on our truck. This was a catastrophic brake failure (virtually no brakes) with zero warning. If there had been traffic or if I would have been going any faster, this could have been an extremely dangerous brake failure. We are very concerned that the replacement parts are the exact same sub-standard and dangerous parts that had catastrophically failed. The dealership was not able to provide information that this very dangerous issue had been addressed and that redesigned parts had been installed in my truck. We feel that our truck needs to be included in the recall and that we need information on what was done with this problem to insure that it does not happen again.

29 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

The brake fluid was completely drained on my 2014 F-150 super crew 3. 5 ecoboost truck. While this meets a recall for the vehicle year and engine type, my VIN was not included. The vehicle only has 46000 miles and the brakes were completely shot. Very scary situation and could have ended horribly. Luckily I got it to a Ford dealer. Issue is a leak in the master cylinder and brake booster. I was in motion and the brakes stopped working. I pushed the brakes to the floor and slowly rolled to a stop and would have continued without a parking curb stopping my progress. Thankfully I was not on a highway but in a parking lot when this happened.

30 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph the brake fluid warning indicator illuminated as the brakes seized. The contact stated that the vehicle had exhibited the same symptoms as NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to dealer phil long Ford (1212 motor city drive, colorado springs, CO 80905) who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the master cylinder and the brake booster had failed and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 39,100. Jc.

31 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Ford f150. The contact stated that while driving at 44 to 45mph the low break fluid warning light illuminated, causing the brake system not engage. The contact was able to shift into first gear and engage the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed fast lane express 4713 tradersway thompson station tennessee, 37179 phone (615)-791-3632, a diagnostic was performed that located the failure code at the brake master cylinder. The contact thad the vehicle to Ford, Lincoln, of franklyn tennessee 1129 mursreesboro road franklyn tennessee, 37064 phone number 615-544-7054, for repair and was advised by the dealership and the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 16v345000 service brake hydraulic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000. Li.

32 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2018

I parked the vehicle for the evening, and applied the ebrake. The next day, I entered the vehicle, and pushed the brake pedal to safely disengage the ebrake. The brake pedal went to the floor-no brakes. I opened the hood, and saw an empty master cylinder reservoir. I checked for leaks underneath the vehicle, but was unable to detect a point of fluid loss. As the fluid had to be somewhere, I removed the vacuum line from the vacuum booster, and found the id of the hose was wet. I added a full pint of dot 4 brake fluid, and pumped the brakes multiple times. This resulted in the draining of the master cylinder reservoir. I then had a friend tow my truck via flatbed, to my dealer. Upon inspection, the service tech found that the problem was due to an internal failure of the master cylinder. This matched exactly the problem witnessed during the 2013-2014 F-150 recall for seal failure of the master cylinder. This recall was for certain Ford F-150's with 3. 5 liter engines built thru Aug. 31st 2014. My vehicle is of the same configuration, but was built in Nov. 2014. I consider myself lucky that the brake failure (complete, without warning), didn't happen while the vehicle was in motion. I believe that the recall needs to be expanded.

33 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

When you go to stop at stop sign you have your foot on the brake pedal, the brake pedal goes to the floor. If you have to dynamite the brakes, it goes to the floor. If you have to stop in a hurry, such as a deer crossing in front of you, you may not be able to stop, which is a scary situation. Have been to Ford dealer on 4/11/2018, replaced brake pads, rotors, still did not correct the situation, and repair bill for $897. 00. Then on 4/23/18, went back to Ford dealer and had brake booster and master cylinder replaced and still did not correct the situation and this repair bill was $459. 00. This is not a good situation to be in and am wondering if this a Ford defect.

34 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2017

Truck is a 2014 f150 5. 0v8 with ~50k miles. While vehicle was in motion at highway speeds ~65mph, brake fluid warning light comes on. I test the brakes by gently depressing the brake pedal, but pedal continues with no resistance nearly to the floor. Brakes are almost completely ineffective and would have zero ability to stop the vehicle in an emergency situation. I throw on the hazard lights and cut to the shoulder and have to manually downshift the transmission to slow the vehicle. Situation could have been much more serious as I was in moderate traffic. I popped the hood and immediately notice the brake master cylinder reservoir is completely empty. After inspecting all brake lines front and rear and checking all bleeder screws are closed, no visual leaks are present. As I was 100 miles from home driving my wife and child home at night, I had someone bring me some brake fluid to top off the reservoir. After filling the reservoir and bleeding the front brakes, brakes seem to stay tight. I drive ~10 miles and the brake fluid warning light flashes again at highway speeds. Pull over again and notice zero fluid again. Visually inspect all lines, master cylinder, booster, etc. , no evidence of leaks. Top off the reservoir to limp the vehicle to a safer location. Notice the engine starting to sputter and fluid completely gone in another ~10 miles. Obviously the master cylinder has failed and is leaking into the booster which is affecting the vacuum in the booster. These are the exact same symptons listed in safety recall notice 16s24/ NHTSA recall 16v-345, however this does not cover 5. 0 v8 motors only 3. 5l ecoboost despite the same brake components being used. So far over a quarter million trucks have been recalled. Apparently newer 2015/16 f150s are experiencing similiar issues as well evidence of a large defect in newer model f150 braking components.

35 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

Driving on the road and my truck said it was low in fluid. Thought that I could get to my destination so that I can buy more brake fluid so that my truck would be ok. During getting to my destination my brakes stopped working I had no option but to use the emergency brakes. Towed it to the dealer and they are charging me 850 in parts and labor. I bought this truck brand new and only has 36000 miles. What would happened if I was on a highway going faster. I've could caused a major accident for something that I didn't do. Many others have had the same issue. They told me it was the eco boost and brake master cylinder that went bad. I've revered owned a vehicle that's ever had this problem.
