36 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While driving 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The brake warning indicator illuminated. The occupant engaged the emergency brake and drove off the road. The occupant sustained back injuries, which did not require medical attention. Neither a police nor a fire report were filed. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (crossroads Ford located at 1010 old us highway southern pines, nc 28387) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 12964409. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

37 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2017

There was a sudden loose of braking ie the pedal suddenly went to the floor and a check of the master cylinder showed all fluid was gone, this happen after I parked the truck . . . Added a pint and continued to my appointment (2 miles) after parking . . . I had no brakes again . . . Called tow truck and had truck taken to a Ford dealer for repair, under warrenty . . . Only 11,771 miles on the truck . . . Luckly this did not happen on the highway or might have had an accident.

38 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

Vehicle is a 2014 Ford F-150 supercrew 4x4, equipped with the 3. 5l ecoboost v6, and 6 speed automatic transmission. Vehicle suffered a complete failure of braking system. Parked at a store, when we went to leave, the brakes felt soft, tried to stop in the parking lot and had no brakes at all. Shut of and inspected vehicle and found the brake master cylinder to be empty, checked all around and under vehicle. There were no visible leaks, then pulled the vacuum line from the brake booster and it was full of brake fluid. Restarted vehicle, held brake pedal to floor and shifted into drive, it was able to move with absolutely no resistance, I had to use the parking brake to stop the movement. Vehicle was towed two miles to local Ford dealer.

39 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2017

Complete loss of power brakes continues. Began after recall of master cylinder. Power assist is lost and brakes require 2 feet to stop the truck. Only happens on raining days. Dealer was able to reproduce and replaced pressure switch which has not corrected it. Last night brakes failed 4 times on commute home. Had to pull off road to avoid collision and caused me to blow out tire hitting something on side of road. Unacceptable Ford!!!! to date 500. 00 for switch and 200. 00 for blown tire. No point in returning to dealer unless it is raining because without a code or active fault technicians are unable to diagnose. Need Ford engineering to figure this out before serious injury.

40 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2016

Had a brake failure in 08/2016. Took to dealer, brake booster & master cylinder replaced. I was informed it was covered under recall. Was told vehicle needs to return to replace master cylinder again when remanufactured part is developed. Talked to service department on 10/25/2016 and thy advised new parts are in. Attempted to make appointment and was told I wasn't under recall (although I have paperwork). They then advised me that they installed remanufactured cylinder in August (???). I called main Ford headquarters to explain and I asked how they would have had the part in August if it wasn't even available until the 4th quarter of '16 (by their admission on their website). Rep couldn't answer and said she would call dealership. When she returned, she only stated, "yes, you have the remanufactured master cylinder". When asked how she could assure me this was actually the case, she couldn't. I'm scared! my wife had one failure & sure don't want to take a chance on another. Is there anyway that y'all could get involved to assure her this was correctly repaired? I'm thinking that since they did put another mc in the vehicle, I was removed from the recall. I don't think I'm asking much. Please help! thank you!.

41 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2016

I was driving on a 25mph street and was coming to a stop sign, I began to depress the brake and heard a small explosion/boom under the hood. I continued driving as there was no indication of a problem. The next stop sign I had very limited braking ability, the third stop sign I had no ability to stop and was forced to use my parking brake. Within half a mile I was unable to stop at all and had to use my emergency brake. There were no indicator lights or warnings on the dash until after the total loss of braking, the only warning I had there was an issue was the loud noise. There is a recall on the 2014 f150 brakes for decreased stopping ability, but not for a catastrophic failure. The recall notice states to not bring the vehicle in for service until there is an indicator light or message on the dash - again, I had neither of these warnings. Once the vehicle got to the local dealer, I was told the master cylinder and brake booster both failed. Ford does not have a solution and has indicated it will be several weeks if not more for them to replace the parts. I believe the recall needs to be expanded and treated as more urgent as this type of failure could lead to fatal accidents - fortunately I was on a side street and not in traffic when this occurred, otherwise this failure would have led to a serious accident. Ford has made the dealer take apart the front end of my truck and take pictures of the area around the defective parts - I feel they are using this as a case study and are not taking ownership of their failed parts that could cause a fatal accident.

42 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the low brake fluid warning indicator illuminated. The brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder leaked into the brake booster. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The VIN did not qualify for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,792.

43 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while towing a 2016 star craft autumn ridge 265rls and driving at 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to come to a complete halt. The contact had to use the electronic brake on the trailer to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

44 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2016

The brakes completely failed. I had just unhooked a trailer. I pulled forward and stopped and then the brake pedal went right to the floor. I put it in gear and creeped forward. Only with heavy pedal pumping did I get slight braking (at approx 5mph) the master cylinder totally emptied into the brake booster. When filling the master cylinder it leaked the whole bottle into the booster within minutes the dealer states the truck has no brakes at this time. Complete brake failure.

45 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2016

Total brake failure while towing a 35 foot RV trailer on the highway. Used manual trailer brakes to stop the car and trailer. The car had no brakes and had to be towed. Master cylinder replaced. Recall 16s24 temporary repair.

46 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

I got into my truck parked in the driveway on a level surface. I cranked the truck and pressed the brake to put it into gear and the brakes completely failed. The brakes went all the way to the floor and the dashboard displayed low brake fluid. It not once ever displayed low brake fluid before the failure. The dealership is telling me that the master cylinder will be a recall but not yet and they will replace the part with the defective one. I'm highly alarmed. I can't believe they want to put me back into a truck that the brakes completly failed, with a know defective part that gives on warning that it will fail. When the tow truck driver came to pick the truck of for Ford he told me we need to turn the truck around to tow it. When he tried using the brakes he could not believe that they did absolutely nothing. He was scared to try and move the truck and towed it backwards. The dealership also said the brake booster needed to be replaced.

47 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

The break system failed, the warning light for low brake fluid came on and immediately after that the breaking system would not function. I pumped the brakes in an effort to get some petal but to no avail. The petal went to the floor. My speed was approx. 45. I was successful in bring the vehicle to a stop with hard pressure on the petal and the use of the emergency brake. I was within a mile of a mechanic and was able to slowly drive the vehicle to his shop for evaluation. Upon initial inspection the mechanic determined that the master cylinder had failed. He advised that under no circumstances should the vehicle be driven. I subsequently had the vehicle towed to a local Ford dealership for evaluation. I was informed that they would have to contact Ford corporate for directions as how to proceed. To date my vehicle is at the dealership with no word as how they plan to rectify the problem. This is a serious issue. I felt like my life was in great danger when this occurred. This needs to be addressed by Ford and the ntsb.

48 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2016

The vehicle was parked. I got in to leave the hotel and the brakes didn't work the brake went all the way to the floor. There was no warning to any brake issues. We have no brakes at all. I added brake fluid as there was none showing in the truck. I drove it to the Ford dealer and the fluid was gone once again. I parked it there. Thankfully I wasn't on the highway going 80 mph. I looked up recalls and appears the master cylinder has failed. Ford has no parts to fix at this time and they are not supplying any rentals. We have called Ford numerous times and they have yet to call us back and it has been a week.

49 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

My family and I had headed home from a family vacation and got only 4 miles from my wife's family home when a low break fluid level light came on suddenly. I drove for about 30 seconds before pulling over to the side of road to turn truck off, then on again hoping this might solve what I thought would be an electrical issue. When I turned the truck back on, the sensor was still on. I proceeded to drive about 1/2 mile further when I needed to slow a bit due to turn in road. The break pedal went down to the floorboard. This was less than 90 seconds total after the light came on to begin with. Knowing something was seriously wrong with the truck, we immediately pulled over for good and called a tow truck. Once it got to the dealership, they informed me that the break master cylinder and booster were shot and that Ford had already begun a recall on this issue, though had not notified the consumers yet and were not planning to do so until mid July. That was straight from the dealership that my truck was towed to. Knowing this, my father in law and I begun to call other dealers within 100 miles to see if they might have a master cylinder and booster available and of course, they did not as Ford had already begun recalling the old from the dealers. This is a serious issue and my family and I could have been severely injured had we not thought and acted quickly. Anybody who has ever driven a vehicle knows that most light sensors warn you of a problem that you have some time to look into. This issue is far more serious. We had seconds to pull over and get safe, or the breaks would have been completely dry of fluid levels and the vehicle hitting something or someone would have been completely out of our control. My vehicles now sits waiting for parts that may or may not be available anytime soon. Dealership just said to throw some break fluid in and go.

50 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. While the vehicle was at a stop, the brake fluid warning light illuminated continuously. In addition, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the master cylinder pushed the brake fluid back to the brake booster and the master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000. The VIN was not provided.

51 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

On 5/17/2016 while backing out of a parking space, I applied the brakes to place the vehicle into drive and the brake pedal went to the floor. The truck did not stop immediately but I could hear the sound of what I assumed were the brake pads against the rotors and the truck slowly came to a stop. Immediately after the brakes went to the floor, the dash alarm indicated red and audible beeps telling me to check brake fluid. I left the vehicle in the parking spot and called for a ride home. We were approx 10 miles from home. The next day, Ford roadside assistance towed the vehicle to Ford of clermont. The service writer advised me that they would be replacing the master cylinder and the booster pump and should be repaired in a day or two. On 5/19/2016 the service writer calls me to let me know that they are replacing my lines as well and the Ford wants my brake system returned to them with fluid in the line so that they can inspect them for the failure. On 5/20/2016 I contacted Ford customer service and told them that although they are replacing the brake parts, Ford has not corrected the problem with the replacement parts. Ford did not offer to be proactive, they advised me that if the problem should happen again that I should contact them for assistance. I do not feel safe in this vehicle, I do not feel safe towing with this vehicle and I do not feel safe placing passengers in this vehicle.

52 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

While driving at 45 mph the [low brake fluid] light came on with an audible ding. Approximately 15 seconds later we stopped at a traffic light. Made a left upon green light traveled 2 tenths of a mile and readied to exit onto a ramp toward another road. When the brakes were applied the pedal went to the floor without any effect in stopping the vehicle. I immediately moved the vehicle's right side off the shoulder to slow down and pumped the brakes 4 more times which seemed to have a very minimal effect as I continued to completely let the vehicle come to a stop off the side of the road. Once traffic cleared we turned the vehicle around and literally coasted 15mph into a food mart exxon 100 feet behind us and came to a stop as the wheels touched the curb. Then we called Ford roadside service for a tow to the dealership. After waiting 2 hours we proceeded to the dealership F-150 in tow. We were informed by the dealership that the master cylinder failed pushing all the brake fluid into the booster.

53 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

I started to back out of my drive way and my brakes failed. The pedal went straight to the floor and a "low brake fluid" message came up on the gauge cluster. I had just parked the truck 1. 5 hours prior and the brakes were fine. I looked in the master cylinder and there was no fluid. I didn't find any fluid on the driveway, don't know what happened. I almost hit the neighbors car backing out. I had to get my truck towed to the dealership. I should find out tomorrow what the problem is, but I find this very freighting that the brakes can just fail like that.

54 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2016

While driving on local streets a warning light came on advising "low brake fluid", in less that one minute I had a total loss of brakes. After coming to a stop I found that there was no brake fluid in the reservoir. I filled the reservoir and drove about three miles to my destination. After letting the vehicle sit for about on hour I checked the brake fluid level again and it was empty but no fluid was on the driveway under the vehicle. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer and I have been informed that the brake master cylinder and the booster tank must be replaced.

55 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2016

Ford f150 supercab 4x4 5. 0 automatic. Purchased vehicle new in February 2015. Shortly after purchase, I noticed the truck would begin to creep forward while stopped in traffic with the brake applied. This would require more effort to be applied to the brake pedal until the pedal would eventually go all the way to the floor. I took the truck in to the dealer at around 500 miles to have the brakes checked but was told that this condition was normal for power assist brakes. I have owned many vehicles with power assist brakes and this condition is not normal. The truck now has 11000 miles and the condition persists. Based on complaints from other f150 owners it appears that these trucks are equipped with defective master cylinders which are bypassing. So far I have not encountered a total brake failure but the braking problem with my truck could be a precursor to complete failure. I know that the brake problem has mainly been identified on trucks with the 3. 5 engine but Ford has acknowledged that it could affect trucks with other engines such as mine because it has the same braking system. While I had my truck at the dealer I was also told by the service manager that they checked the brakes on a new 2014 f150 on the lot and the brakes did the same thing as mine, therefore it was a"normal" condition. This appears to be a widespread problem and it is only a matter of time before there will be more accidents caused by these faulty master cylinders.

56 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2015

I had a brake failure identical to that of what has already been reported, within the last 6 months. While driving on highway, I went to apply brakes and pedal went all the way to floorboard & I had little to no brake control. Refilled reservoir but it was empty within 30 minutes. All fluid drained out of master cylinder and in to brake booster. Had to have master cylinder replaced, and have not had problem since.

57 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Failure of master cylinder and booster pump. All fluid drained into booster with no warning. Repaired under warranty. Vehicle has only 9600 miles. Vehicle lost all braking ability (excluding ebrake) within 60 seconds of a low fluid alert.

58 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Started vehicle and pushed on brake to switch to reverse, warning message that vehicle was low on brake fluid. Verified by looking at master cylinder, added brake fluid and started driving. Within 3 miles same message, parked vehicle called Ford. They picked up the vehicle and called me later to advise that the master cylinder failed and the brake booster sucked all the fluid into it. They both needed replaced as well as other brake related stuff. I researched and I know I am not the first to have this exact same problem, I am just lucky I wasnt on the freeway at speed when this occurred.

59 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2015

This vehicle is currently under recall for the master cylinder in the braking system. My vehicle already experienced the loss of the braking system in June of 2015 and had the braking system replaced . Ford has know recalled the master cylinder and won't have a fix for months and wants the owners to continue driving their vehicle. The system on this vehicle has already failed and I don't t think the vehicle is safe to drive. Ford wants you to continue driving until they get a fix or a tragedy occurs to my family whichever happens first. I spoke with Ford case #cas9744853 and don't feel this is right.

60 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

Applied brakes to slow down getting off interstate I-85 and the pedal went to the floor with no warning other than the check brake fluid level afterwards. I was able to get it stopped by downshifting it to low, automatic transmission without hitting anything. Ford determined it is the brake booster and master cylinder and they need replaced but those parts are back ordered for between 2 & 12 weeks. I was also told that Ford is replacing these parts on new f150s and that is why the long back order.

61 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2015

Brakes failure at 20,200 miles. Brake booster and master cylinder failed while pulling out of garage. After stopping with the e-brake, several dash warning illuminated and a message of low brake fluid appeared. No fluid was found in reservoir and was sucked into the brake booster. Ford attempted to blame the failure on the after market charge air cooler. Truck is s 2014 Ford F-150 platinum 3. 5l ecoboost 4x4.
