Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake pedal was loose. The contact pulled over and check the brake fluid reservoir and became aware that the brake fluid level was low. The contact reached out to autonation Ford bradenton (5325 14th street west, bradenton, FL 34207 (941) 275-1267) and inquired what brake fluid was recommended for use in the vehicle. The brake fluid was purchased and the reservoir was topped off. The contact re-entered and restarted the vehicle, depressed the brake pedal and the brake pedal went to the floorboard. The contact re-checked the brake reservoir and became aware that the reservoir was empty. The contact drove the vehicle to the residence and then had the vehicle towed to the same dealer. The contact was informed that the brake fluid leaked from the brake master cylinder into the brake booster. The contact was quoted a cost for the repairs and was also informed that the warranty on the vehicle had expired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The manufacturer offered to assist financially with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 41,120.
I experienced complete brake failure in my truck. The failure occured while the truck was stationary. I drove at low speeds in a residential area the night prior and did not notice any diminished braking function. The next morning, I started the truck and observed the brake fluid warning light and no resistance in the brake pedal. Upon further inspection, there were no visible leaks from any of the brake lines but the brake fluid resevoir was empty. The diagnosis was a failure of the master brake cylinder, via leaking all brake fluid into the brake booster. This failure is consistent with the 20s31 recall, but my VIN was not reported as being effeted by this recall. I am concerned that there may be more vehicles out there that are effected by this faulty part. My vehicle was repaired by a Ford dealer, and we opened a incident report with Ford but they declined any responsiblity for this failure.
On 9/6/2020, while driving approx 60mph on hwy 128 between jal and carlsbad nm, the brake pedal on my 2016 Ford f150 lariat went to the floor and I had no brakes. A message on my dash came up saying to add brake fluid and I did. I took my truck to the nearest dealership, carslbad Ford Lincoln. The master cylinder and booster had a recall and was replaced, but the brake fluid that leaked into the engine was never addressed by the service and repair center. As a result, I now have over $6,000 worth of collateral damage to my engine that the dealership is refusing to fix because I'm being blamed for the damages for adding brake fluid to the resevoir. It's beyond obvious that the only way any brake fluid leaked into the engine was due to the damaged manufacturer part(s), the master cylinder and the booster, that were not only damaged but in recall status - recall# 20s31. The gm and service manager of the carslbad Ford Lincoln dealership have the power, the support and backing of a behemoth. They have the full support of the great american auto giant Ford motor company and I have 100% nothing and nobody! there has to be some law or some thing to protect your everyday innocent tax paying american citizen from being taken advantage of by people who work for these powerful entites and/or companies. I'm writing this complaint on 9/27 and they've had my truck since 9/12; just over two weeks. I'm issuing this complaint because I literally cannot pay for the $6,212 worth of repairs that Ford motor CO is accountable and responsible for. Also, with (2) blown turbo chargers, tube asy, converter asy, sensors etc which all need to be replaced; my truck is not safe for me to drive and other citizens communting with or without their families on american highways shouldn't be subjected to this unsafe vehicle being on the road.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 70 mph the brake fluid light illuminated on the dashboard. The contact tried to brake but the pedel went to the floor. The contact was able to downshift and slow the vehicle down to pull off the highway at a gas station and retopped the brake fluid. The contact then drove a short distance home and the brake pedel went out again. The contact checked the level and discovered the fluid leaked into the brake booster with the brake cylinder fluid level completely dry. The contact called the dealer ken garff st. George Ford Lincoln 145 w hilton dr, saint george, ut 84770 (888) 925-8899. They refused to recognize the recall that was on the vehicle NHTSA number:20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic). They said that NHTSA's information was wrong. The manufacturer stated the same. They denied the existance of the recall. The failure mileage 115,000. Tf.
Master cylinder leaked brake fluid into the brake booster causing loss of stopping ability. This occured one morning as I arrived at work. The low brake fluid warning came on and I planned to get more fluid during my lunch break. When I attempted to leave in my vehicle for lunch I immediatley notice a total lack of braking ability and narrowly missed backing into a nearby building. I had to have my truck towed to a local shop for repair. The repair included a new master cylinder and booster. I paid $225 for the tow truck and nearly $700 for the repairs. Luckily this did not occur while driving at highway speeds and cause an accident.
My 2016 Ford f150 3. 5l ecoboost didn't have its VIN tagged for the leaking brake master cylinder recall. Reference 20s31. My truck was built at the dearborn plant and matches every single parameter for the recall. I was driving my truck down a colorado highway at a high elevation. My brakes started softening and felt almost no pressure in the pedal. My brake fluid low warning came on my dashboard along with the brake light indicator. I was able to get to a store to purchase brake fluid. Within 5 miles of driving after filling up the tank the warnings went off again my brakes weakened. It was very terrifying with having my partner and two dogs in the car with me. I spoke to a Ford dealership and they said they won't cover these repairs. This is after I mentioned my life being in danger just trying to get to work. I had the truck inspected by a credible mechanic which told me that the issue matches the recall details perfectly. I believe now, the brake fluid has leaked from the master cylinder into the brake booster and is now leaking into the engine. An enormous amount of thick exhaust was being expelled from the truck on the second day of noticing brake failure. I believe Ford should be responsible for any danger or harm that comes to me since they have turned me away just because of my VIN not matching.
Brake fluid light came on resulting in loss of brakes while driving. After seeing light I went to auto parts store to purchase brake fluid. I filled brake fluid to an almost max level to get home. While driving less than a mile home the light came back on about 1/4 mile and started losing brake function. I arrived home and added more fluid to the vehicle while parked and it immediately began to go down. There were no visible brake fluid leaks anywhere. Under further investigation a recall has been issued to trucks made at the same time with the same issues. My VIN number does not have a recall so Ford won't doing anything with this obvious manufacturer defect and obvious safety issue. The brake master cylinder leaks fluid in to the brake booster pump causing a loss of braking power. Ford recall code 20s31 and the press release was issued this month. I could have crashed into another vehicle due to this issue.
I was driving on a freeway at 75 mph when the "low brake fluid" light illuminated. I immediately exited and while braking, the brake pedal went nearly all the way to the floor. The brake light also illuminated on the dash. I pulled into an auto parts store and purchased brake fluid. It took approximately 20 ounces to fill the reservoir. After filling, the warning lights went off, but the braking pedal was still not firm. Once I got to my destination, I parked the car for 3 hours and when I left, the low brake fluid light and the brake warning light came on again. I put another 12 ounces of brake fluid in the reservoir and immediately drove to the Ford dealership service department. At no time did I observe any brake fluid on the ground. Upon inspection, the dealership told me the master cylinder had failed and was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. This was an extremely dangerous failure as there was no warning prior to the warning lights on the dash and the loss of brakes was immediate. The vehicle has 52,000 miles on it.
With no prior warning symptoms, I started my truck the morning of may 23, 2020 and saw a brake alert message on the dashboard. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I immediately called my local Ford dealer and (carefully and slowly) drove the truck the 2 miles to the dealer. They informed me that the brake master cylinder had failed, leaking brake fluid into other parts of the braking system. They did not have replacement parts in stock, so I am now awaiting parts shipment before they can complete repairs. I feel very fortunate this happened now, as my wife and I are scheduled to leave on vacation in 10 days, pulling our 9000 lb travel trailer on an extended highway trip. Had this sudden brake failure occurred on the road while pulling an RV, we would quite likely not have lived to tell the tale.
My brake warning light came on when I depressed the brake peddle, after exiting a busy street onto a commercial driveway. The peddle bottomed-out and I had very little braking power. I was traveling at very low speed and I was able to stop by engaging the park brake. The master cylinder/reservoir was near depleted. I was unable to find evidence of brake fluid leak under the hood or under the vehicle. I refilled the master cylinder and operated the vehicle at the "off-street" lot where the malfunction occurred. After several applications of the brakes, the master cylinder was low again. I refilled it and drove home (near by). Again, I had to engage the park brake in order to come to a stop in my driveway. The master cylinder was near empty and again I was unable to find a leak. . Read more...
As I was travelling down the highway at approximately 65 mph, a low brake fluid notification appeared on my display. Additionally I saw the brake warning light illuminated. When I applied the brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor. I stopped and opened the hood to verify the empty brake fluid reservoir . Once verified I refilled by purchasing a 32 oz bottle of dot4 brake fluid. Once refilled with almost the whole bottle, the brake pressure momentarily returned. However upon returning to the highway, I felt the brake pressure go away again and the low fluid light re-lit within 10 minutes. I then went to the local Ford dealership about another 10 miles away. There was very little brake pressure the whole way. I only had about an inch of play and had to apply the brakes several seconds (5-10) earlier than normal. The Ford dealership diagnosed the issue and reported the following "tech check on customer concern, brake fluid reservor empty, put vehicle on hoist check for external leaks , no external leaks , remove brake master cylinder and found all brake fluid leak into brake booster, brake master cylinder leaking into brake booster, need to replace brake master cylinder, and brake booster that is contaminated with brake fluid".
My 20 year old daughter was driving through a parking lot and without any prior problems or indication of a brake issue the brake pedal went to the the floor board and the truck barely came to a stop before hitting other vehicles in the parking lot, at this time a warning chime and warning message displaying low brake fluid appeared on the instrument cluster. She happened to be in the Ford dealership parking lot picking the truck up from multiple recalls being preform (non brake related). She pulled back in the service lane and asked for assistance, the service writer went and got the technician to inspected it in the service lane, he checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was completely empty causing the truck to loose all brakes. They ended up keeping the vehicle over night and inspected it the next day. . The technician added more brake fluid to the brake reservoir and tested the trucks brakes and the brake master cylinder immediately lost the brake fluid into the brake booster. The technician diagnosed the failure as the brake master cylinder leaking fluid into the brake booster. Now both the brake master cylinder and brake booster need to be replaced at a cost of $1,031. From what I have researched this is a widely know problem with 2013 to 2018 Ford f150s equipped with the 3. 5 liter engine like we have. My daughter was extremely fortunate she was driving at slow speeds through a parking lot, if this would of happened traveling a higher rate of speed it could of ended up causing serious injury or death! this matter needs to be addressed in a swift way to prevent anymore drivers being at risk, not only to the occupants of the defective vehicle but those that could be hit by the out of control Ford F-150!.
I was driving down the highway when my brake system alert started going off and brake alerts on dash, a minute later I went to brake and had no brakes, I was able to get off the highway and to a parking lot. I opened up the hood and there was no brake fluid, I bought more fluid and attempted to drive 3 more blocks and all the alerts went off again and no brakes, I pulled over, checked the fluid and it was gone. There was no signs of leaks and all the fluid went into the booster and engine, causing a thick cloud of smoke. I went to . Carproblemzoo. Com/Ford/f-150/2016/brake and found 65 people with the same issue. Are we waiting for someone to get killed. I have not received a recall is there one? I am the only owner and the truck has less than 20,000 miles on it. No accidents.
I was driving on the freeway, when the low brake fluid light came on. I pulled over to the next exit and went to a gas station and added two bottles of brake fluid to get the level above the minimum line. The pedal pressure was decreasing with each use and I drove the rest of the way to work, about a 1/2 mile. After letting the car sit for 3 hours the fluid was gone and there was no visible sight of fluid on the ground. I added more fluid and did not drive the truck, but 3 hours later the fluid was gone again. I took the truck to the dealer, 1/2 mile away and the brakes were gone at this point. The mechanic diagnosed that the fluid was leaking from the master cylinder to the brake booster according to the service report. The master and booster were replaced and the truck functions properly again. I know this was an issue on the 2013-2014 f150s and there was a recall, but this happened in a 2016 F-150 with 37,000 miles where a failure like this should not have happened. I am reporting this since there could be a similar failure happening on the 2015+ f150s as the previous generation.
Brakes suddenly and without warning became nearly unusable, brake pedal soft and to the floor and extremely long stopping distance. This was followed by a brake warning light and a "brake fluid low" warning on the instrument panel display. Dealer reports a master brake cylinder failure and leak of brake fluid requiring master cylinder and booster replacement.
On 7 September 2019 we returned from a family trip of 9 days. During this time the F-150 was sitting in the garage the whole time. When we returned I went to back the truck out of the garage and when I depressed the brake pedal I had no brakes. Shortly noticing that there were no brakes the low brake fluid indicator came on. I checked the reservoir and indeed the level was really low, when it was full before we left on the trip. There were no pools or puddles of fluid anywhere. On 10 sept, I refilled the reservoir with brake fluid. While remaining in the driveway, I pumped the brakes. The break pedal consistently went to the floor with no breaking power. After several pumps of the breaks the low fluid level indicator came back on. I checked to see the level and indeed again it was below the minimum marker. And again there is no indication of leaking anywhere. There are no pools of fluid anywhere in the engine compartment nor under the vehicle. I plan to take the truck to the dealer for repairs. The vehicle has not been in an accident due to this problem. Some motion was used to verify if the breaks were working. All of this occurred in the garage or on the driveway of the house.
Low brake fluid light came on. Was able to get to parking lot. When I went to drive the truck a few hours later it had absolutely no brakes!!! had I driven any further I would have surely crashed and died since I was on a highway. No fluid was leaking. Had to tow to dealership. Need to recall the 2016's too.
I was driving down the highway when my brake system alert started going off and brake alerts on dash, a minute later I went to brake and had no brakes, I was able to get off the highway and to a parking lot. I opened up the hood and there was no brake fluid, I bought more fluid and attempted to drive 3 more blocks and all the alerts went off again and no brakes, I got pulled over, checked the fluid and it was gone. There was no signs of leaks and all the fluid went into the booster and engine, causing a thick cloud of smoke I called a tow truck and it was taken to a Ford dealer. They said it was not covered because I was just over the warranty period. It is costing me over $800. I am very lucky it wasn't a bad accident. This needs to be addressed. All the fluid went into the booster and into the engine. The Ford dealer will have all the information and are repairing it now. I could add it later if needed.
On starting stationary vehicle received audible warning of low brake fluid. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Vehicle had been driven normally 2 days prior with no indication. Opened hood and observed brake fluid in reservoir below min. Added brake fluid to between min and max. Restarted vehicle and pressed brake pedal again to floor. Observed fluid level lower within reservoir, but no fluid observed coming from vehicle. Continued to add fluid, pump pedal and observe fluid draining, but no fluid leak found. Total fluid added - 36 oz. Vehicle towed to dealer. Service department concurred with self-assessment that master cylinder had failed and draining fluid was collecting in brake booster housing. Service department quoting $1000 to repair. Vehicle 37 months old, 47000 miles - just out of warranty. Had vehicle had been in motion I feel confident collision would have occurred / injuries likely. My gravest concern is that failure of major safety system did not have any precursor nor external symptoms. Hard for low age/low mileage vehicle to hold value with this issue.
While heading to the dentist yesterday I was driving and the low brake fluid light came on, thought maybe a sensor fault and kept driving, next the brake light indicator in the instrument cluster came on. So I pulled over and the pedal went to the floor. I barely stopped in time because there was a stop sign. I popped the hood and there was no fluid in the master cylinder. I locked the truck up and walked 3 blocks to a ace hardware to get some more fluid. I got back to the truck and checked for leaks but didn't find any. So I filled up the fluid and pumped the brakes, I had enough to get me home safely. When I got home I checked again and found the fluid to be all gone again. That was withing a 5 mile distance to where I filled it up last. I checked for leaks once again and didn't find any. So I pulled the vacuum sensor off the bottom of the brake booster and all of the brake fluid poured out. The master cylinder failed and kept pushing the brake fluid into the booster.
Complete brake failure with limiter warning. Driving and brake fluid level light came on. Stopped at a gas station refilled brake fluid. Lost brake pressure after driving less than a mile from gas station. Refilled brake fluid. Next morning starting seeing white smoke in exhaust. All of the brake fluid drained out of brake fluid out and leaking from master cylinder.
While driving total loss of brakes, pedal to the floor. No fluid in master cylinder. Master cylinder failed and fluid leaked into booster and burned off in engine.
Came to a stop sign and everything worked, at the next stop sign it was as if someone flipped a switch (residential area with many intersections). My brake pedal would sink to the floor and could barely stop the truck. However if slamming the brakes the abs would function and stop the truck as expected. Inspected brake system and fluid level was above minimum in the reservoir and found no external leaking of brake fluid (failure was internal to the master cylinder). Towed back home and isolated master cylinder and found it to be the issue. Replaced master cylinder and brakes function properly again. (when I removed the master the boosted still held vacuum and fluid was not leaking into booster. ).
After driving for on for about an hour I pulled off the highway and my brake peddle went very soft. Brake fluid low warning and my brake light came on. I go the truck stopped (slowly) and checked fluid - virtually empty. I nursed the truck to a service station filled fluid drove about 7 miles slowly to home and light came on again. Pulled in fluid was gone. Found that the fluid was leaking into the booster cylinder. Have to replace the master and booster cylinder. This appears to be an open investigation and it needs to be elevated before someone is seriously hurt. This could have been an accident easily.
On 05/11/19 while driving I experienced nearly complete brake failure. I took the truck to my local mechanic who diagnosed the failure due to the master cylinder rupturing. Sequentially the leaking brake fluid drained into the brake booster which also had to be replaced. As this happened while I was driving it was quite miraculous no one was injured.
Complete brake failure occurred without warning except for a period of seconds during which "low brake fluid" warning light appeared. Vehicle was operating normally at all times prior to event. 38,111 miles on vehicle. Approx. 4 mile drive to highway, brakes working normally. While traveling 70mph (the legal limit there), warning light appeared. I immediately tapped brakes and found that pedal went all the way to floor. Managed to get to shoulder without accident. Drove gingerly to service station to examine. No leakage at calipers, on rotors or from any brake lines. Brake fluid reservoir empty. Had been full previously and vehicle well maintained. I filled reservoir with dot appropriate brake fluid, no change in braking ability. With pumping of pedal, no effect. With pedal all the way to floor, vehicle exhibited extremely attenuated braking (took well over 30 feet to slow from 10 mph to zero). Truck to Ford service department/bay. They told me that "we see one of these about every week" which I found shocking. They rapidly diagnosed problem as master cylinder failure with bleed of fluid into booster system (which is why no pressure, but no leakage of fluid externally). They replaced the master cylinder and the booster. This is a very dangerous problem. Fortunately, I did not injure or kill anyone when brakes failed at highway speed.
On 8-19-17 truck was moving at about 30 mph on a street, went to stop at a stop sign, brake pedal went all the way to the floor, truck would not stop. Released brakes, and tried again, this time pumping the brake pedal. Truck stopped this time. Continued on, brakes felt spongy but would stop and started feeling normal again. On 8-26-17 same scenario occurred. Dropped truck off at Ford dealership on 8-28-17. As of 8-31-17 dealership has not duplicated problem, found any fluid leaks and has not solved problem. Just a side note. My brother in-law has the same exact truck and experienced the same situation about a year ago. At that time the dealership replaced the master cylinder and has seemed to solve his problem. I have also googled this problem and it seems to be a problem with other owners. Some have had the master cylinder replaced. I suggested this to the service writer at the dealership, service writer has declined to replace master cylinder since they can not duplicate problem or find any leaks.
Backed out driveway and had no brakes (pushed on peddle all the way and went to floor. Vehicle didn't slow) had brakes day before and no warning, nor fluid anywhere. Reservoir was visibly well below minimum. Looking back, I did smell hydraulic oil night before when I pulled in garage. Dealer said fluid leaked into powerbooster.
