Sudden brake failure. Warning message came on that I was low on brake fluid while driving on a divided highway between towns. After hitting ok, red brake light warning remained on. Within a minute I lost most braking ability. I pulled over but saw no leaks under the truck. Walked to a napa dealer and bought brake fluid and filled reservoir. Got some brake ability back but with in a few minutes, brake pedel went to the floor and very minimal braking ability. Still no leak found under the truck. I can not use the truck with limited brakes. Ford recall #20s31 should include my 2016 model but for some reason does not- even though model, make, year and symptoms the same as outlined in the recall. I was lucky not to have been invoved in a high speed accident.
While driving on suburban highway the low brake fluid warning alerted and the brake warning light illuminated. The brake pedal travel increased and eventually lost almost all braking effect. The vehicle was parked and towed to a repair facility where it was determined that the master cylinder failed and leaked into the booster. A check of the VIN indicated that it was not included in the existing recall for this same problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed to shift from park to drive, after releasing the pedal the vehicle was coasting in the parking lot, the brake was depressed again and travelled to the floorboard. The contact stated he had to swerve from colliding with another vehicle. The parking brake was applied to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was shifted to park and turned off. The brake fluid level and parking brake warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he exited the vehicle and upon opening the hood discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The contact stated that he parked the vehicle and went to autozone for brake fluid. The brake fluid was added to the vehicle, the vehicle was restarted, the brake pedal was depressed several times until the brakes was operational. The contact drove to his residence, where the vehicle was parked with the parking brake applied. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while stopping on a hill. The vehicle was driven back to the residence. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to remedy the failure was not available. The vehicle was towed to the dealer fritts Ford (8000 auto dr, riverside, CA 92504) where it was awaiting diagnosis and repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
Complete brake failure. Entered vehicle in morning and pedal went to floor. Popped hood and checked fluid (fine). Got back in vehicle and attempted to move it a few feet - pumped brakes - no stopping force - after 2 - 3 pumps the brake fluid light came on - stopped engine and rechecked fluid (had dropped about 1 inch - was not below min) - big pool of brake fluid under rh front wheel. Had (day before) just completed long trip through mountains (steep canyons) - feel lucky to be alive!.
The car was parked in the parking lot. I started to back up and found I had no brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor and I was unable to stop the truck. The truck then ran into the vehicle in a parking behind the truck. The brakes were checked by lieut. Edwards of the police department and he found it there were no brakes and there was no fluid in the master cylinder. I observed that the brake fluid reservoir for the front brakes was completely empty and the reservoir for the rear brakes had slightly visible fluid in the reservoir. Prior to the event there was no warning indicator on the dashboard or any other warning that the brakes were going to fail. The brake pedal would go completely to the floorboard when pushed. The Ford f150 bumper was significantly damaged and the parked car was slightly damaged. We are now in the mountains of north georgia and if had we been going down the road to the valley we possibly been seriously injured or worse. I reported a previous event with this truck to you folks last year relating to the computer system that controls just about everything on the truck causing a complete shutdown of the vehicle. At that time I was driving down the mountain road and fortunately I was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle at that time was towed away for repairs as we did this time after the brake failure. It is my understanding that the break fluid reservoirs have level indicators that should give some warning. They apparently are inoperable.
I was merging onto highway 44 in st. Louis from lindberg blvd. I applied the brakes to allow an 18 wheeler to pass. Suddenly the low brake fluid light came on the dash and the parking brake. I started losing pressure on my brake peddle as it went almost completely to the floor. I was pulling a trailer at the time and used the trailer brakes to come to a stop safely on the side of the road. I looked under the hood and my brake fluid was almost completely empty. When I took the car into dobbs auto they stated that the master brake cylinder leaked into the brake booster causing almost complete loss of braking. Thankfully, I had the trailer otherwise this could have caused an accident. I don't have the repair invoice yet, but I will be happy to forward it once I pick up my truck. Thanks of.
Started truck up on 5/21 in garage and noticed brake light on console came on indicating issue. Brake pedal when depressed went all the way to the floor. Checked fluid level and it was nearly empty. I added a bottle of dot 4 brake fluid and pumped brakes. It seemed to hold for a small amount of time. I checked fluid reservoir again and it was nearly empty again. I visually check under vehicle to see if there was a noticeable leak. None was noticed.
I am on the parkway low fluid brakes light comes on, I click ok it goes off the brake light is on . 1/4 mile I get off at the next exit and have no brakes all the way to the floor. I push the parking/ emergence brake . I slow down to the light. Turn on the street go to 1 mile away using the emergency brake. Check fluid it is low? purchase fluid fill snd pump brakes get pedal. Drive about 1 mile brake light comes on no brakes pull over fluid is gone again no leaks wheels anywhere, going into motor I guess and burning out the exaust. Smoking. For dealer has here in savannah. I have read complaints about this same issue. Not much warning 20 seconds to the ramp then no brakes? any information would be appreciated.
I started my truck in the garage and went to put it into gear and the brake pedal went to the floor and a flashing brake light came on with a fluid low signal. I checked the fluid it was low. I put more fluid in it and pushed the pedal again gone again. I checked all brake lines under the truck not a leak anywhere. I'm ordering a new booster and master cylinder the fluid went into the booster. I believe this was a recall in the 2013 -14 f150 but Ford told me there isn't a recall in 2016??.
Upon pulling out of parking space, low brake fluid light came on and brake pedal lost all pressure. Went back into store to purchase more brake fluid. Refilled and low fluid light came back on before leaving parking lot. Drove to another lot and refilled reservoir as it was empty again. No signs of external leaks. Upon viewing other identical complaints, I believe it is leaking into brake booster, which has not yet been recalled for this model year. F150 only has 61,000 miles.
After 71k miles, the brake master cylinder needs replaced due to brake fluid internal leaking to the brake boosters. Lost all control of braking power. $1100 repair to replace master cylinder and brake boosters. This happened on 7/6/2019 while driving home. The low brake fluid light came on while driving and noticed substantial loss in braking power and had to push brake pedal all the way down to slow the truck to a stop at stop sign.
I was parked at a retail store when the check brake fluid light cmae on. I check the fluid and it was almost empty. The brake pedal was going all the way to the floor. I purchase fluid and replaced it and drove home about two miles away. By the time I got home the light came on agin and the pedal was going to the floor with very little brakes. I called my mechanic (who works for Ford) and he said to check because he thought there might be a recall on the brakes. There is not one but there are a large number of complaints on the issue. It is so bad the master cylinder is on back order with no timeframe given on when it will come in. I also cannot get an after market part from someone else due to backorders. It is obvious there is a mass problem that Ford is ignoring a safety issue.
I got up started mt truck drove to work as normal. Got into my truck after work started it and the brake light was on and the truck was digging multiple times. The brake pedal when pressed went all the way to the floor. I got out popped the hood and looked theres fluid in the brake reservoir. I looked on the ground and on the motor for leakage and theres nothing anywhere.
Driving down a hill with my family in the truck on a divided highway going approximately 50 mph. I went to apply the brakes for an upcoming stop light and the pedal went almost completely to the floor. At the same time a "brake fluid level low" alarm light turned on in my dash along with the parking brake engaged symbol. I had to quickly shift my transmission to manual and down shift the transmission from 6th gear all the way down to first gear to be able to safely pull off to the side of the road. When I checked, the brake fluid reservoir was below the minimum (min) level indicator. I later filled the reservoir to the max line and tested the brakes. The "brake fluid low level" warning light and the parking brake applied light went away and everything seemed normal. I tested the brakes and they seemed to be working. I then tested the vehicle out in a safe area and within minutes the brakes failed again and the lights came back on. At this time I parked the vehicle and referred to the factory repair manual to diagnose the problem. There were no visible leaks from any of the brake components including the calipers, brake lines or master cylinder. The manual recommended checking to see if any brake fluid was in the brake booster. The brake booster was nearly half full of brake fluid. At this point I replaced the master cylinder and brake booster as recommended by the factory manual. This is a know issue with 2013-2016 Ford F-150's and there has been a factory recall on the 2013-2014 F-150's (16v345000). I feel that if I had not put the vehicle in manual and downshifted I would not been able to stop and could have caused an accident at the intersection. Even after the repair of the brake system I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle.
I am emailing you to both alert you of a situation and ask that you reach out to my father regarding what happened to him this morning. He owns a 2016 or 2017 F-150 with the 3. 5 eco-boost. This morning as he was driving between 50 60 mph south on hwy 111 in coming into livingston TN. He let of the gas preparing to veer right on the 111 bypass, his brake warning light came on and when he attempted to apply the brakes his foot went to the floor and the was absolutely zero there for him to stop the truck. Luckily this happened about 6 am and there was no one on the road and it was in a place that he had room and time to shift down and decrease his speed and pull over. One mile further and this could have had a very different ending. He was on his way to pick up a boat. . So this was three hours later this could have had an extremely different ending. Did I mention he 81 years old. There was little to no warning, the light came on just as he was getting ready to make his turn. This could have turned out very bad.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the brake light illuminated low fluid as well as the emergency brake illuminated when the failure happened. The contact was in operation of the vehicle, applied the brakes and they had completely gone to the floor board. The dealer henry curtis Ford,1120 auto center dr, petaluma, CA 94952, (707) 769-2310 indicated that the brake master cylinder and the brake reservoir may need to be replaced as well as further diagnosis and testing of the brake system. The dealer made no mention of a manufacturer TSB ssm-46139. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: rq16001 service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic the manufacturer had not issued a brake system recall for this year, make and model. The contact was uncertain if the dealer may be able to provide a permanent fix. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000. Dyd.
My 2016 Ford f150 limited is 2 years old. The brakes started not working well and then the brake fluid light came on. I took it to the dealership and they told me the master brake cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced. I had to pay for this even though there is a recall for this same issue on other model year f150s.
Drove the truck for about 2. 5 miles with no issues and parked. As I backed out of parking the truck lost all braking capability. I was able to stop the vehicle using the transmission. The truck alerted me with a brake fluid light and the emergency brake light. No visible leaks under the hood, calipers, frame, engine compartment. Towed to dealer. . . The truck has 28,100 miles. Platinum 3. 5 eco boost!.
Driving down 7hwy in leavenworth county kansas. Pushed brake pedal down and low brake fluid light came on and brake pedal went to the floor. Stopped a friends house and got brake fluid and it all got sucked into the brake booster. Took it to the local Ford dealer and had the master cylinder and brake booster replaced.
While driving my vehicle the low brake fluid light came on as I was pulling into a parking spot. I parked the vehicle and checked the brake fluid, it was well below the minimum level. Since it stopped ok, I thought when I left I could just drive to a store and buy brake fluid. When I got in the truck 30 minutes later and started it the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Putting in drive I found that there were no brakes at all and used the foot emergency brake to stop the truck. I got a ride to a car parts store where I bought 32 oz. Bottle of brake fluid. I poured more than half the bottle into the reservoir getting it up to the max line, started the vehicle, pumped the brakes and got brake pressure back. I drove back to my campsite which was 1. 5 miles away. Halfway there the low brake fluid indicator came on again. By the time I arrived after 1. 5 miles, the brakes were almost useless and there was very little pressure under the pedal. I parked the truck and check the fluid, again it was well below minimum and I could hear what sounded like a vacuum leak. I filled the reservoir up to almost max again, pumped the brakes, got pressures back and looked for any leaks under the truck and found none. I pulled the truck back and forth, about a 100 feet, repeatedly to see if I could see a leak - nothing, but the level in the reservoir was going down. I drove the truck in around a 1/4 mile circle and by the end the brake peddle had lost most of it's pressure, still no leaks under the truck. When it got towed the next day there was no stopping power at all. I was fortunate that this did not happen on a highway or more high speed road or I would have been in a very dangerous situation. I'm submitting this complaint because I have seen that there is an investigation of brake failure on some years of these trucks.
On 6/2/18, after a night's stay in a walmart parking lot in our 5th wheel, our 2016 Ford 150 pickup showed a low brake fluid warning light when I started the truck to leave. I put in dot 4 brake fluid and the light went out so we left. We had traveled only a few miles north on interstate 95 in south caroilina when the brake warning light light came on. When I pushed on the brake pedal, it went down to the floor with no braking. Although we were in heavy traffic and going 55-60 mph, I put on my hazard lights and was able to downshift to about 5-10 mph. Then with brake pedal down to floor, I was able to slowly stop our pickup and trailing 5th wheel. We were extremely fortunate that the traffic conditions did require emergency braking. We were also fortunate that we were only 10 miles from a Ford dealership that determibed that the truck's master brake cylinder and booster were bad and needed to be replaced. Our trip was delayed two days due to this issue and cost us over $750 dollars in repairs and lodging. This happened only 98 miles past my warranty period! when doing some research, I see that Ford recalled its 2014 and 2015 f150's for the very same problems. It sure seems like some ( if not all) 2016s are having the very same problem. But by the grace of god, we could have been in a serious accident and hurt or killed. I am very nervous now driving this truck and my trust in Ford products has been seriously damaged. I urge other 2016 - new 150 owners to be watching the brake fluid levels closely.
I experienced a sudden and complete loss of my brakes while backing out of my garage. When it happened it was instantaneous and I had no braking power at all. The brake light came on immediately and low brake fluid light was also on. The Ford dealer confirmed upon repair that the master cylinder dumped most or all of my brake fluid into the brake booster. They repaired the issue, but used the same factory parts my truck was made with. What's to say this won't happen again???.
