Front Suspension Coil Spring Problems of Ford F-150

The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, he observed a loud noise emanating from the passenger side of the vehicle. Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while inspecting the brakes, he discovered that the front driver's side and passenger side coil springs were fractured. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The contact stated that he had not replaced the defective parts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

I have a 2014 f150 Ford truck. The truck had been sitting in the driveway for 3 days. I was outside and heard a loud bang and thunk. I started to look around to find what it was and saw something under the front passenger side of the truck. Looking at it I found what looked like a broken piece of curved rod about 5/8 inch in diameter. Looking further I found it was off the coil over spring which had broke on the passenger side front of the vehicle. This was a clean break with no cracks in the metal and did not look like there had been any reason for it to break. The truck has 44000 miles on it. I think that if this happened while driving that it may have caused an accident. I think that the metal was defective as I have never heard of a coil spring breaking like this with so few miles on a vehicle.

Took vehicle in for engine repair. Technician discovered both front coil springs broken. Almost new tires worn bald on the inner edge. Online research indicates this has been a major common problem on the 04-08 F-150, with no relief from Ford.

Left front coil spring broken . Found broken during alignment inspection February 12,2019 . Odometer 73750 .

Both of the coils in the front strut suspension are broken. Repair shop says F-150's are notorious for this.

Noticed abnormal tire wear on front tires. Took vehicle to shop to have tires rotated and alignment checked. A safety check revealed both front coil springs were broken. (see photos) fracture occurred at the transition from tight radius (pigtail) at the bottom, to larger radius. The spring then bowed out of column and started rubbing the strut body. Vehicle previously had a safety check at the same shop at 47726 miles on 1-20-2016 with no spring defect noted. Defect was noted at 60800 miles on 4-13-17. Report generated by original owner. Left spring failure was not noticed but right failure may have occurred when encountering normal pothole that created a startling bang not commensurate with the depth of the street defect. Owner did not notice any steering wheel displacement associated with a wheel misalignment. Owners concerns. 1) vehicle was less that 7 years in service less that 61000 miles. 2) essentially a silent failure, first clue was abnormal tire wear. 3) mode of failure could allow spring to pass over perch causing sudden complete collapse of that corner suspension. 4) if spring remains in place, rubbing on strut body will cause failure of the strut itself affecting handling. Pictures are of rt. Strut assembly. Lt strut was discarded before decision to report was made but had similar failure,.

Both front coil springs broke from corrosion.

Bought a 2004 Ford F-150 from a neighbor recently. Front end was drooping. Went to put a "leveling kit" on it and found both front coil springs broke in the same place. This can't be a coincidence. Can't really afford new springs right now but looks like a manufacture defect. Thanks.

I took my truck in for state inspection and was told that both front coil springs were broken. They explained that the coating applied to the springs actually caused rust and made them fail. I consider this to be a manufacturing and safety defect but was informed by the dealer and Ford that they would not consider any help toward the $400 bill to replace them. I don't feel that a consuouldmer should have to pay for a structural design flaw that could have caused an accident. Internet research shows this to be a common problem.

Front coil springs both broke in same place.

The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced, the technician discovered that both front coil springs were fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 90,000.

Brought truck in for service due to hit pulling to the right and seemed to be sitting low. When the dealership removed front wheels it was discovered the both front coil springs had been broken. Both springs were broken diagonal at the base where it sits in the strut. Was told that the springs needed to be replaced in order for a proper allingment to be completed. Further research online shows that this is a very common issue in the Ford F-150. Truck has never been taken off road or driven hard. Truck is taken well care of.

We have always taken our truck to the Ford dealer for regular service. Took it to a 3rd party mechanic to have brakes done and they showed us that both front coil springs were broken, completely severed and had been that way for quite a while evident by rust and corrosion at breaking point. After reading the other complaints on here this seems to be a common defect in this make and model and year. I am doing separate complaints regarding the spark plugs and exhaust manifold issues.

While sitting at rest, the left front coil spring broke at the bottom rung. The engine was not running and the truck was unloaded. I heard a loud snap and the truck shook. No parts or fragments were released and the break was clean and rather even across the body of the spring. The stance of the truck has been altered although no change in drivablility to date (next day).

While my truck was being serviced, it was brought to my attention that I had a broken front passenger side coil spring. Their was a 2 inch piece of coil spring hanging on by the plastic covering of the spring. The piece was corroded, which tells me that it had been broken for some time. I have noticed online that this is not a uncommon occurrence.

While rotating the tires on my 2004 F-150 I noticed the drivers side front coil spring was broken. I then looked at the passenger side and seen that one was broken also. I was broke in the exact same spot as the other one. I have never taken this truck off the road. It only has 75000 miles on it I think these springs should not be broken and there is a problem with them. While looking online I noticed alot of other people with the same problem.

2004/5 Ford f150, 33,000 road miles (never been off road) parked at traffic lights in my truck when the front drivers side coils spring collapsed. Having inspected the failed part, it has not failed in the normal fracture straight through the coil but diagonally through it, surely this must be a manufacturing flaw. So glad I was stationary when it happened.

Oct 4, 2005-during annual state safety inspection, the inspector discoverewd that both front coil springs were broken. The breaks were aproximately 90 from the top end of each coil, leaving them unattached. The broken ends were rusty, so they had beejn in this condition for some time. The springs were replaced with new ones.

This vehicle already had a recall #98s18. This obviously didn't fix the problem. The spring came out of the assembly and struck my fuel tank. In my opinion they should have replaced the leaf spring if it was not made correctly and not just put a bandaid on it. They broke even though this was supposed to fix the error. .
