6 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2003 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/23/2005

I own a 2003 F-150 super crew truck, I just went to get the vehicle state inspection (4/23/2005). The vehicle has 40k miles and has been serviced according to manufactures recommendation. The vehicle failed inspection due to both the front lower ball joints. The service guy advised me that they have seen numerous problems with this on the Ford truck. The vehicle is used mostly for going back and forth to work via the highway. For a 2 year old vehicle and to have both lower ball joints have this problem at the same time seems strange. In order to get it passed I have to replace the ball joints as I was told this is not covered under warranty or recall.

10 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

Saw tv note on daimler-Chrysler recall ball joints. My wife has a similar issue with a gm F-150 (independently verified by a mechanic as excessive wear for 20,000 miles and is already making the noise Chrysler says is a warning)--but dealer says it's within specs, and gm says it won't go against dealer. New husband is very worried for his wife given that ball joint is already at the stage that is quoted as "consumer would have warning because of noise"--yet no repair offered or even thought needing further review.

12 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/17/2004

I have a 2001, Ford F-150, 2 x 4, 4. 6l v-8, 64k miles. Nstalled new tires on vehicle. Was informed that wheel alignement could not be guaranteed due to bad lower driver side ball joint. Took vehicle to Ford dealer for second 'expert opinion" was advised both lower ball joints need replacement. This truck has all highway miles, no off road or construction type heavy load use. All joint failure should not occur at this mileage with this type of use. My opinion inferior design, workmanship, or procurement practice by Ford. Seems to be common thread occurence from my research.

18 Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/17/2003

On 12/17/03 while backing out of my driveway to go to work, the left front lower ball joint failed on my 1999 Ford F-150 4 wheel drive pickup. This caused the wheel to angle out at a 45 degree angle and lower "a" frame to come in contact with the road. This vehicle only has 69,100 miles on it, is only used for personal transportation (no snow plowing or business use) and has had all scheduled maintenance performed. Vehicle up to that point had displayed no driving erratics that might indicate a problem. Service manager indicated that this a normal problem that should have been caught during normal maintenance (my original dealer where I purchased the vehicle has sold the dealership) and not covered by any warrenty or recall. Ford consumer rep agreed. Not only is it going to cost me over $1,000. 00 to have my vehicle repaired, I was informed by the service manager that although Ford is coming out with ball joints that will have a grease fittings, they will not be available until all inventory of non-grease fitting ball joints are used up. Above and beyond my dissapointment with Ford and Ford products is the constant thought of what would have happened if I was traveling down the highway at 65 miles an hour and this ball joint failed and how many other Ford F-150 owners are out there with this same problem waiting to happen!!!!.
