The tire landed on the highway however remained attached from the lower assembly. Due to the momentum of the vehicle was able to get across the highway to prevent a collision. The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. During routine maintenance the mechanic noticed that the left lower control a-frame was cracked. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where they confirmed that the lower control arm was cracked and they could not tell if it was only cracked on the side. They informed her that she would be responsible for the repair since there was no warranty or related recall. The manufacturer was notified and informed her there was nothing they could do since the warranty had expired. The failure mileage was 23,650. Updated 02/09/lj the consumer stated Ford finally agreed to help pay for the repairs. Updated 05/06/11.

This is not a serviceablee part as they no longer put a grease fitting on the original equipment. On the replacement part there is a grease fitting. This should a major safety issue. Had I been going down the highway at 70 mph, instead of backing into a parking space at 2mph, the possible damage, and death or serious injury could have been much different. Check arround, this is not an isolated incident. These ball joints have a major design defect and should be recalled.
Consumer states that every six months the tires are wearing. Took to dealer and the dealer stated there is a problem with ball joints and can't align. Nlm.
I am curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. I was told it is normal to replace ball joints, and control arms for both sides at 57000 miles.

Consumer got into vehicle to back out and front end collapsed. Service manger stated it happened all the time from normal wear and tear. Service if vehicle was serviced properly, they would've been able to catch it in time. Consumer purchased vehicle on October 26, 2000 from same dealer with a clean inspection. Consumer took vehicle to several mechanics, who stated that pin to ball joint broke because of the incline, and the angle consumer was turning wheel caused it to snap front end.

Please note that I am from canada and your request for "zip code" will not accept my "postal code". Therefore, I typed in 90210 so I could by-pass this portion. My postal code is k1c 5s7. I was backing up on level pavement when I heard a "pop". Upon investigating, I found that the ball joint on the tie rod end had separated from the socket at the wheel. There does not appear to be any corrosion or other damage to the tie rod. Also the joint feels well greased and the tie rod moves freely. The truck has been towed to a dealer and will be looked at tomorrow (April 22, 01). If you are unable to help outside of the u. S can you please direct me to a canadian association. Again, my e-mail address is jeff-kenda@sympatico. Ca.

Ball joints are out. Contacted dealer, and dealer said not worry about it.
I feel that at 37000 miles ball joints should not be bad this truck is well cared for & does not go out in woods & go 4 wheeling.
Vehicle hit a bump. Consumer felt a shake in front end. Upon inspection consumer noticed front outer ball joint had disconnected. Part was replaced. On 1 July 2001, right inner ball joint fell off. One day later , left ball joint fell off while backing up. Mileage was 67000 at the time.
Since the control arm keeps shifting due to the oblong hole that the bolt is held in, the alignment is always incorrect. . . Makes it hard to keep vehichle straight at 60 mph. If the lower control arm keeps shifting, I'm sure the bolt that keeps the control arm in place will eventually be sheared off. . . . . . Causing loss of control.
When hitting small pavement irregularities vehicle wandered all over the road. Also, consumer could see where the bolt on the lower control arm has moved. Dealer was aware of this problem, but did not have a solution. Please provide any further information.
Loud popping noise. Dealer was no help. Independant repair shop found and replaced control arm bushings. Originals had chemically deteriorated from application of slovents at some point at assembly. Repairs cost me $400. Attachment points were worn to the point of being oblong.
