5 Suspension problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/05/2025

I was driving on the PA turnpike and upon hitting a pothole or bump the mount on the frame that the lower control arm bolts onto broke off. I was going under the speed limit with two small children in the car and a piece of my frame broke off after a slight bump. Every mechanic and person I speak to at Ford is saying it shouldn't have happened and they can't believe it. There was no warning and I drove onto the turnpike got almost all the way home before it randomly broke. I spoke with Ford and they are unwilling to help after running my VIN. They say unless I put a complaint in and you open a recall that they will not help me. This is a 2017 truck with minimal rust it should not be breaking off a simple bump on the highway. I had a 9 year old and a 10 month old in the car and the front left of my suspension broke away from the vehicle after routine driving. Something needs to be done about the situation Ford should be more concerned they have a frame break on such a new vehicle. Thank you for your time.

9 Suspension problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/17/2025

Recall 23s65 has been active since January of 2024. Ford has failed to provide the necessary parts to repair my f150. Through my communications to Ford, they have been made aware of the fact that multiple mechanics have indicated that my truck is in need of immediate repair. Ford’s failure to provide the necessary relief to a recall from January of 2024 renders my $45,000 ($72,000 new) truck basically useless to me. It is not safe to drive any distance, nor should it be towing a camper. Ford personnel are not returning my calls to discuss options to provide relief. We have been patient but now believe Ford is negligent in handling this recall and are unwilling or unable to provide necessary equipment and relief. To note, this complaint is directed at Ford motor company. Service representative [xxx] at griffin Ford has been attentive and as helpful as he can be during this process. However, he is also at the mercy of Ford to provide remedy to this situation. Please see the pdf attachment for detailed information regarding this complaint. Please contact me if you have further questions. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Suspension problem of the 2025 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/15/2025

The contact owns a 2025 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v341000 (suspension). While attempting to schedule a recall repair appointment, several dealers in the area either failed to answer the phone, and several other dealers were unable to schedule an appointment. However, loveland Ford (3905 mountain lion dr, loveland, CO 80537, phone: (970) 744-7101) initially offered to schedule a mobile appointment but later retracted the offer. The contact notified the manufacturer of the issue. The manufacturer attempted to reach the dealers to schedule a recall repair appointment and was unsuccessful. The contact was seeking assistance in resolving the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

11 Suspension problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

I went for an oil change, tire rotation, etc at the dealer on 6/9/25 and was told that my frame had rust damage/holes and would not pass inspection this coming December. Went to ziebart on 6/11/25 and they confirmed multiple hole/rust damage on frame which needed repair. They were perplexed as no problem was seen at my last yearly check of the rust protection in July of 2024. Also, no mention of a potential problem was found at my last vehicle inspection in December of 2024. How does this kind of damage occur in 6 months? I'm reading on-line that this is an issue with Ford F-150s, but no recall?.

12 Suspension problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/25/2025

With 72,000 miles the driver's side spring broke just setting in our driveway. Unknown to my wife who drove it 7 miles to work with a broken suspension spring. Within 200 miles the other spring broke on the passenger front while going down the road. Didn't hit a bump and was going straight. This one also snapped with no notice and I had visually inspected it days before. We were going 15-20 mph when it broke and were able to safely pull off the road. Unheard of them breaking when the vehicle is only driven on the paved roadways and not off used off road. Cost approximately $1,200 to just repair the driver front at a shop.

13 Suspension problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/20/2025

I had recall 19n01 and had a local repair shop complete the repair jr's transmission in catskill, NY. My local dealer rc lacy would not cover the recall. I had the repair completed on 11/2024. I would like to be reimbursed for the repair. I was going in for surgery for throat cancer at the time of the warranty.

14 Suspension problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/09/2025

After completing a 200-mile highway drive with my family in the vehicle, I performed a routine visual inspection of the undercarriage. During this inspection, I immediately noticed that one of the front coil springs appeared to be off-center in relation to the shock assembly. Upon closer examination, I discovered that both front coil springs had shifted significantly out of position. Even more alarming, the coil spring on the passenger side had a complete fracture—it was fully cracked through. In addition, the misalignment of both springs had caused visible damage to the shock bodies, suggesting metal-on-metal contact had been occurring during operation. This is not a wear-and-tear issue or a cosmetic concern—this is a catastrophic suspension failure on a relatively new and well-maintained vehicle. Coil springs are a critical structural component designed to support the weight of the vehicle, absorb shocks, and maintain proper handling and ride height. A complete failure of one coil spring, coupled with misalignment of both, indicates either a serious design flaw or material defect. Had this failure progressed during our highway drive, especially at speed or during an evasive maneuver, the consequences could have been tragic—not only for my family, but for other drivers on the road. The loss of suspension integrity at highway speeds could lead to sudden loss of vehicle control, steering instability, or even a rollover. The fact that this occurred without any warning signs (no abnormal noises, ride quality changes, or handling issues were noticed prior to inspection) makes it even more concerning. This type of failure should not be happening on a modern pickup truck, especially one marketed for its toughness and reliability. I am filing this complaint in the hope that NHTSA investigates whether this is an isolated incident or part of a broader issue affecting other 2020 F-150s. If other vehicles are at risk of similar suspension failures, this poses a serious publ.

22 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

This truck was supposed to be recalled under the transmission recall for 10r80 and I noticed while conducting a decode on the VIN number that the type and kind of transmission was never listed so I’m wondering how many people have been going through the same issues as us and if this will get fixed because our VIN is not recalled and it should be.

23 Suspension problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

Issue #1 transmission while going up steep incline and gears go from gear 10th to 9th gear there is a hard thump, dealership says they will not do anything if it passes their clutch pack test. Issue #2 rear driver shock absorber was replaced at 38,000 miles due to leakage. 4k miles(1month) later the new shocks paint is wore off and has the same markings the old one has, this will cause premature failure and premature rusting. The sock absorber on the other side has no markings and paint is fine (42k miles old) this may be due to a defective bolt bolt (w720200 s440 nut I had to have replaced as it was missing. . Then few months later the shock absorber went out and was charged ($358 for repair) now I have a premature wearing part installed again seems to be an overall issue with back end suspension.

24 Suspension problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/28/2025

My F-150 has been a nightmare since I purchased it in April. Ford dealers are unwilling to even look into my complaints. It has now got to the point where I cant drive the vehicle on the interstate because it is too unstable at those speeds. As in the steering wheel moves one way and the truck steers another. The truck is on its 3rd set of tires with only 30k miles on the odometer, but Ford always comes up with some excuse to blame it on me. That is not the case though, I've had 3 4x4 F-150s prior to this one, so I know what to expect from and how to drive a truck.

25 Suspension problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving on uneven terrain, there was an abnormal clanking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that a front shock suspension needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to an unknown technical service bulletin. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,240.

26 Suspension problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

27 Suspension problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/04/2025

I made a left-hand turn during a snow storm, and the right rear wheel slid and I made contact with the curb at a relatively low speed. The rear right wheel assembly failed and snapped, leaving the wheel assembly 90 degrees to normal. In other words, the wheel went from vertical to horizontal. Upon visual inspection, the axle snapped, and the axle's interior steel looked defective. The axle appeared very coarse, porous, and poorly consolidated. I requested to keep all the parts which are now located in storage. Both the insurance company and the Ford motor company dealership seemed to think the axle was defective. Nobody was injured or hurt.

28 Suspension problem of the 2024 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

Ford issued a recall for Ford lightnings produced from November 2023 to February 2024, for the front ball joint nut falling off. Causing a loss of control, suspension and all steering input, later crashing. New truck with 700 miles. Fords guesstimate of 12000 trucks, going by the month math is more likely than not well over 24000 affected vehicles. My truck was manufactured June 2024. My husband moved/unscrewed the aforementioned nut, off the left upper ball joint with the fingers on his hand. The nut was loose. The upper ball joint appeared hand tight. Ford nearly killed us. I advised william at NHTSA and he hung the phone up on me. William needs to be terminated. William is apparently biased against gay men and/or retired law enforcement officers.

29 Suspension problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact noticed an unusual sound. The contact, who was an independent mechanic and an associate independent mechanic, diagnosed fractured frame and bracket. The contact stated that the frame had a 6-inch hole. The contact stated that the frame and the bracket needed to be recleaned and rewelded. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the metal was defected, which had a stress crack. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

30 Suspension problem of the 2024 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

I purchased a new 2024 Ford F-150 on August 31, 2024, and just six weeks later, on October 19, 2024, the entire left front suspension failed while I was driving at 50-55 mph. The truck suddenly and unexpectedly took a hard left and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. It was incredibly difficult to maintain control of the truck as it swerved dangerously, but I managed to guide it to the shoulder and called for a tow to the dealership where I bought it. I discovered the left front tire and rim had detached and the entire front suspension pulled out of the truck. The left front tire was positioned sideways under the truck. My concern is there's potential issues stemming from what appears to be a failure to properly torque the top control arm at the factory that are being covered up. I was told that Ford recalled some rangers and broncos after it was discovered the nut on the left upper control arm was either missing or not properly torqued in the plant. To my knowledge there has not been a recall on the f150 models. If the incident had occurred on the interstate or while meeting an oncoming vehicle, I have no doubt there would have been serious injuries or fatalities involved. The were no warning signs or symptoms prior to the incident occurring. The truck remained at the dealership in repair until November 20th.

31 Suspension problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/12/2024

The structural integrity of the hood and front bumper failed due to unsafe modifications performed by rocky ridge and endorsed by Ford motor company. The hood's structural reinforcements and crush zones were cut to fit a hood scoop, and sections of the front bumper were removed, compromising crashworthiness. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request and I have documented with images. The modifications to the hood and front bumper compromised the vehicle’s crashworthiness, potentially increasing the risk of severe injury or death in a collision. The removal of structural reinforcements and crush zones on both components prevents them from functioning as designed to absorb and distribute impact forces during a crash, endangering all occupants of the vehicle. The problem has been confirmed by an independent collision repair center, a Ford certified collision center and my insurance company usaa. Both parties have stated that the modifications to the hood and bumper are unsafe, and the insurance company has refused to authorize repairs that replicate the original modifications due to safety concerns. The vehicle has been inspected by my insurance company and a collision repair center. Both confirmed the safety concerns resulting from the modifications and highlighted that the affected components cannot be repaired or replaced without compromising safety. Images were provided to Ford motor company and inspected by Ford collision center manager. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other visible symptoms of the problem prior to the discovery of the modifications during a repair process. Ford positon statements and on target tech bulitens prohibit these types of modifications and were violated, then conceled so that the consumer would not be able to see them unless in an accident. Ford is citing that the time frame exceeds 24 months so there is nothing that they are willing to do about it. This is a failure to warn and product defect that impacts safety.

32 Suspension problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/28/2024

I was told there was something hanging underneath my truck and when I looked I found the sway bar had broken. It was not the end links but the sway bar itself. I have never been off roading or abused the truck.

33 Suspension problem of the 2024 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/07/2024

The contact owns a 2024 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was vibrating abnormally while driving approximately 70 - 80 mph. The contact stated that the failure had not occurred at slower speeds. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 4 times; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The tires were replaced, the rims were replaced, and an alignment was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 490.

34 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/17/2024

I have been having nothing but problems with this truck since I purchased it and I'm looking to see if anyone can help me out with this truck. I have had it now almost two years and the truck was in the shop for 3 months of it getting worked. I have had nothing but problems with the braking system as well. The dealer wouldn't sell me the original pads for it, they sent someone to car quest to get a set of pads. Whenever I gave them the VIN I would always end up with the wrong parts somehow. So I dont know if there is VIN fraud or what but something wasn't adding up. The dealer I purchased it from is not much of help. The water pump has gone out, the cam phasers were replaced(and are rattling again. ) the starter was replaced due to clunking when started. ( still clunks) oil pan gasket was replaced. The transmission had to be replaced. I am just trying to see what my options are with this truck. It's clearly a lemon and just wondering if there's anything anyone can do to help because the reliability of this 35,000 dollar truck is out the window.

35 Suspension problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/25/2024

The wheel wells on the front of my vehicle do not properly fit the well. One has been replaced twice the other once and recently the dealer made the decision to cut the wheel wells so they would no longer rub. I was told it was the best they could do. The other choice is to keep replacing them when they fail. I am concerned that somthing from the road may fly up in their and get lodged in the exposed under section. I feel there should be another alternative but Ford doesn't want to pay to get a resolution. If those well covers were not needed they wouldn't have them n their in the 1st place. So I know they are needed.
