Gas Tank Strap Problems of Ford F-150 - part 2

I realize this is not a new issue, but it needs to be addressed. The first notification from Ford motor CO. Regarding the 2011 recall for faulty gas tank straps was received the week of October 20th 2014, although I have owned the vehicle for over a year. An appointment was made with brondes Ford in maumee, ohio the following week. The vehicle, which was having no issues at all, was left with ~$900 in damage. The faulty straps had corroded through to the gas tank, and so when they were removed, left holes in the gas tank. In researching this issue, this consequence has been rampant among these repairs, yet neither Ford nor their dealers' service departments will cover the damage! so a truck that was in perfect working condition was rendered useless. How can Ford be responsible for the straps but not the resulting damage they cause? I get that my truck is old, but if replacing the straps runs the risk of causing damage the owner will be liable for, it should be clearly outlined! the notion that only the faulty straps are Ford's liability is negligent. My hope is this issue will be readdressed with Ford and the owners reimbursed for the damages caused by Ford and its agents. Thank you.

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact indicated that the fuel straps and the fuel tank intermittently rusted to the point of corrosion and may fracture. The contact noticed the presence of an itermittent fuel leak and the fuel per gallon was getting lower than usual. The contact notified the dealer of the safety concern and they indicated that the contact would need to replace the fuel tank and the fuel straps. The contact was not certian if the dealer specified if the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. Tl-the contact owns a 1998 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, a clunking noise emitted outside of the vehicle. After reaching the destination, the contact noticed that the driver's side fuel tank strap fractured due to rust corrosion. In 2011, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline). However, the failure recurred. The vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. Smelt fuel emitting from the gas tank area but could not find the source of the smell; turned on the ignition key without starting the truck. I saw fuel running down the side of the fuel tank. I turned off the key and proceeded to removed the fuel tank gas straps to lower the tank; with all hoses still connected I turned the key back on; fuel was spewing from the fuel pump. I completely removed the fuel tank and all hoses and found a linear crack on the pressure side of the fuel pump hose connection. This vehicle has never been in an accident and is the original fuel pump to this vehicle.

In March of 2014, my fuel tank straps broke due to excessive corrosion and my fuel tank fell to the road while I was driving. I paid to have it repaired that same month but I recently learned that this problem was in a Ford recall, campaign number 11s21. I took the bill to a local Ford dealership, per the Ford recall instructions, but they denied my claim because I no longer own the vehicle; it was totaled in 2015.

Received the recall notice for fuel tank strap replacement. Took truck to Ford dealer in auburn MA. Dealer would not work on truck do to rusted fuel tank, insisted I needed a new tank prior to fixing. I took my truck to a Ford dealer in ayer MA. , same results. A brand new tank has been installed, made an appointment at my local Ford dealer in auburn, MA. Dealer refuse to install straps, complain about connection areas which I'm not familiar with. I mention to dealer that my new tank is not secure and this is a hazard to myself and the public. My truck is primarily used in winter driving and local runs for house chores. My truck is being used on a limited bases now, winter is approaching and would like to have this problem resolved, please help.

While traveling south bound on interstate 81 at christiansburg va. My gas tank fell off of the vehicle due to defective straps rusting into and letting it fall causing gasoline to leak on roadway and almost causing a fire. The gas tank struck the roadway and the grinding caused the tank to leak and the spillage. I had to have the vehicle towed to a local repair shop and have purchased a used gas tank and ordered new straps. I have written Ford an e mail, asking them to help with this problem.

Front fuel tank strap failed while traveling 55 miles an hour causing front edge of the fuel tank to hit the pavement and be drug several hundred feet until the vehicle was able to get off the roadway. Upon failure of the strap, the metal hook dug a groove into the driveshaft.

Was driving and fuel tank fall off and hit the ground, putting holes into the gas tank. My daughter researched recall's and found out there was one on the fuel straps that caused them to break. Ford will not approfve paying for and fixing my gas tank, which I feel should be done because it was their fault that the fuel straps were bad and I never got a recall. Am 79 years old on social security and they want $700 to fix gas tank. If their strap wouldn't have been defective this wouldn't have happen and luckley it didn't exposed and kill me and my passenger. Just seems very unfair that they don't cover the whole thing. Fuel tank fell off of truck while driving down the road. Causing the fuel tank to hit the ground and fuel to leak out of tank. Fire dept. Had to come clean up mess. Had truck towed to dealer for service. Found out after that straps where recalled by Ford. Ford refuses to pay for the tank, the clean up, or the tow. They told me I had been notified and they would only pay for the straps. I find it funny that the didn't have any of my inf before I gave it to them. So how did they notify me.

Fuel tank straps rusted thru the gas tank, Ford replaced the straps, but would not cover the gas tank. The frame, rocker panels, cab & bed are rusted thru, will not pass inspection again.

I went to a automotive shop to have some brake work done on my 1997 Ford F-150 truck. The mechanic said I have something to show you & what they show was one of my fuel tank strap was broken and also they said my gas tank drop down a little. So I call a Ford dealer & they say there no recall on my 1997 Ford F-150 fuel tank strap in virginia but in other states it is. I told them according to the NHTSA , it is ! no help from Ford dealer.

Tl- the contact owns a 1999 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal noise. The contact was able to move off the roadway to inspect the vehicle. The contact son discovered that the fuel tank was dragging and spilled gasoline on the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was advised that the fuel strap was corroded and had become separated from the fuel tank. The manufacturer denied assistance with the fuel tank replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 254,000. Kmj.

The straps on the fuel tank completely broke off as I was driving on the turnpike and the fuel tank fell down; causing it to drag on the road leaking out gas.

The vehicle was traveling at highway speeds when the gas tank fell out. The tank straps had rusted through dropping the tank. The tank cut open from skidding on an interstate expressway releasing 23 gallons of fuel. Ford dealership inspected and said the straps are under recall and will replace, but will not replace the tank. The tank is only damaged due to faulty straps which Ford has identified as problematic. The faulty straps by Ford have resulted in a large financial loss due to tow, cleanup, gas loss, time. . . . And Ford estimates $800 for a new gas tank. This is a severe hazard and thankful nobody was injured. I believe the next person may not be so fortunate.

Rear fuel tank strap corroded through and broken, approximately 6 inches of driver side missing. Rear of tank was being supported by fill and vent tubes only. Front strap was intact but corroded.

Received recall from Ford motor CO about gas tank straps. Scheduled appointment with freedom Ford 3941 admiral peary hwy ebensburg PA 15931. Went to freedom they looked at my truck told me that straps rusted frame and would need to be repaired I told to do it, that it should be covered because of premature rusting of straps. Service writer said it is not covered it would have to be sent to his mechanics house and would cost $300. I asked why it could not be done at freedom and he stated they do not do that work here. I told him I do not have the money that it should be covered. He said that they would not repair it. I left freedom and my tank fell after arriving home. I have been unable to use my truck and believe Ford should pay to have this repaired.

Used 2003 Ford f150 I ordered a $100. Ny inspection, the service advisor informed me that this truck had a problem, the fuel tank straps recall his records showed on paper that it was done, but upon a physical inspection it was not done, only some make shift wires to hold up the gas tank the service advisor gave the wires to me to show you he contacted the Ford dealer in massachusetts they said it was not their responsibility since they had closed the case my service advisor then informed me that he would call ¿¿Ford special assistance he said they denied the assistance after the call he informed that it would be my responsibility to pay for new straps and the installation labor and taxes. It is my understanding that the vehicle manufacture is responsible to care for this problem and through their dealers. Especially gas tank straps!! and also it seems logical that the recall is to the vehicle, not the customer. In this case their records are saying that it was done and then finding that it is not. The service advisor made his attempts to get it done through Ford, but could not. This is most reprehensible, and crooked on someone part, the other dealer and now Ford. The other dealer did get paid for something they did not do, and now Ford will not take care of this. The advisor gave me the customer service # to ¿¿fomoco¿. The fomoco agent then told me that, it was between the dealerships and he assured me that they would handle the matter. When I called back the service manager he said my hands are tied, the other dealer would not reopen the case and Ford special assistance would not back any thing up. If I wanted to pass the emission and safety inspection and register my truck I would have to pay the bill I have been given the run-around thank you.

I had an appointment at donley Ford in ashland, ohio mon. , 11-11-12 at 6 pm. , to have the fuel tank straps replaced on my F-150 per the recall. When the technician removed the straps, the tank started leaking. When contacting Ford, they deny any responsibility for this problem. A quick search on the internet shows that many others have had the same experience. My truck was previously owned my brother and has been taken well care off. The technician even commented on its condition. The tank is in perfect condition except some rusting where the straps were. After searching the internet, I am sure that you have heard this complaint before. I am simply adding one more. Not only is there a potential for the straps to break, allowing the tank to fall, they also corrode the tank, causing it to leak fuel.

This is regarding the recall for the straps holding the gas tank on the Ford f150 . Ford replaced the straps in Feb. Of 2012, but never said anything about the corrosion on the gas tank that was caused from the faulty straps. . A few months after the repair the gas tank started to leak due to the rust where the straps were. I brought the vehicle back to my Ford dealership and they told me that the gas tank was not warranteed under the recall. This is rather confusing. If the faulty straps which Ford agreed to replace caused the gas tank to rust and leak, why would this not be included in the recall?? the faulty straps caused the corrosion of the gas tank. This is clearly explained in the NHTSA website. I was forced to accept aftermarket parts in order to avoid the full price of approximately $2,000 for repair. It is obvious that I am not the only Ford 150 owner who has been forced to replace their corroded gas tank due to defective straps on Ford's part. We all know a leaky gas tank is the recipe for disaster - death. My final cost was $540 - only because I agreed to use aftermarket parts. This entire situation is a disgrace. I am considering bringing this matter to the attention of the media. Shame on Ford.

After dealer completed safety recall 11s21 fuel tank straps, tank began to leak fuel. Ford refuses to acknowledge that this is a safety issue to fix broken fuel tank after recall work. There response to me was if the tank fell off the truck it would be covered, this has happened to many f150's hence the reason for the safety strap recall.

Filled up tank and the front gas strap failed about one mile later in town. Gas fill tube broke off of tank and poured gas out on road, while pushing tank through gas. Pulled over in nearest parking lot because of noise of tank being pushed on pavement. Parking lot was a grocery store full of cars and people getting groceries on a snow storm night. I had to start and move the vehicle after inspection so that I did not blow up people! moved it to the back of the lot. Snow storm saved my life and many other people. Hazmat came, police came. Huge expensive fuel spill. I had tried to get the straps replaced twice before this incident and Ford did not have parts or time.

Fuel tank straps broke and fuel tank fell to the ground while in motion at slow speed. Fuel filler neck cracked and fuel connection and fuel pump do not work. Vehicle is drivable and temporarily supported by straps. On my own I discovered there was a recall for 1997-2004 Ford trucks and contacted Ford who informed, to my disbelief, that my vehicle was not included in the recall. Ford could offer me no help.

I looked under my 2003 Ford f150 and saw something hanging down. It turns out that one of my gas tank straps broke. I see by looking on the internet that this is a common problem . I have ordered a new set from advanced auto parts and I should have them on tomorrow.
