38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Vehicle would stall at random while driving. Mechanics at Ford advised that it was relay wire or harness wires for the airbag sensors that ran through the fuel tank were corroded or shorted out. They reported that the engineers at Ford made a bad call when they decided to run the wires through the fuel tank, which in turn resulted in me having to dish out 1500 bucks for the repair. This issue occurred multiple times prior to the repair on a truck with less than 53000 miles at the time, between during March or April of 2014 when I first purchased the used truck. Lost all power at various speeds and on several road types including highway, highway service road, residential street and farm to market road, while going strait and during turns, after multiple events and having put less than 1000 miles on it, I took it up to Ford. Grateful that no accidents occured during the episodes I experienced. I was able to cometo a stop, place the truck in park and restart it. Ttince the repair no issues. Love the f series pick ups and have owned several over a span of 18 years and its all my dads company uses. I know its been almost 4 years since having the issue but felt like I needed to say something to at least give others a head up or warning. Never set well with me. I still have the repair paperwork if needed.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

I was driving in the city at a 20mph road and I made a left turn then accelerated and all of a sudden the truck stalled but kept going straight forward until it completely stopped. Thankfully I was headed towards the sidewalk and not to incoming traffic or I would have easily been in an accident. The engine light came on and when I checked it, it came up as the fuel level sensor. So I took the gas tank down and revised it but it seems to be in new shape with maybe a little play in the sensor so I bought a new one because I cant risk to get in an accident. On top of that I replaced the fuel control module that was corroded due to Fords lack of placement on a frame. Thankfully I wasn't injured or Ford would have never heard the last of me. These new trucks cant be trusted anymore with your life and all these cheap material parts.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

Replacement of corroded gas tank assembly required following safety inspection in 2012. I subsequently learned of a recall [NHTSA campaign number 11v385000. Ford recall number 11s21]. I cannot determine if my vehicle (bought used) had the recall repairs performed on it. The subsequent repairs to the fuel system cost $1472. 84. If I was sold this used vehicle, I want to have the dealership that sold me the truck compensate me for the repairs.

The dealer was able to determine that the interior lining of the fuel tank had shed into his gasoline tank causing it to seep inside and damage the engine. The dealer stated that both fuel tanks would have to be replaced and the engine would need to be clean. Two years later, after the contact's vehicle was out of warranty, the failure reoccured. The dealer confirmed the vehicle would require the same revision as before, however, it would be preformed at the contact's expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 18,000. Az.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

Like so many, I had to replace my fuel tank because of holes rusted in it ($500 cost to me). Even after NHTSA "studied" the issue for 10 months, they apparently determined that having gasoline spill out onto the road is not a safety concern for consumers. If this is true, then there is no reason to call the haz mat team in to clean it up, because ray lahood has determined that there is no risk of fire and the contamination of ground water is of no public concern? the tread act states that if a defect is hidden to mislead NHTSA, the company is subject to a $15,000,000 fine. If there is a death or grievous injury as a result, the penalty includes 15 years in prison (a ri woman sustained such an injury) why is ray lahood, david strickland and larry hershman so reckless with human life as to not enforce this law? why can they decide which consumers should be covered by consumer protections under the law and which ones should sooner die in a ball of flame? how can the hr department of a company threaten employees with termination if they refuse to cover up a tread act criminal violation that could, and I quote (charr occupants beyond recognition) all without consequence in spite of the letter and spirit of the law. This failure to corrosion protect is the same decision that killed a coast guard veteran in mass when the axel broke on his windstar. Another tread violation meriting prison time, but NHTSA is again either too corrupt or too inept to its job. Likewise, the recent string of brake failure due to line corrosion is due to the same decision. How can anyone not know that these present risks to human life? how can anyone have so little regard for human life to seemingly run a protection racket like NHTSA seems to be, yet claim to be acting in the interest of the public and consumers?.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/21/2011

55 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

Ford f 150 fuel tank bracket has rusted away year 2002.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

The f150 fuel tank is prone to severe and dangerous rust at the base of the filler neck. So severe that it will rust through causing the fuel to spill profusely through the cracked neck. I am sure this is a design flaw because after checking the salvage yards to try and replace the part I discovered that it's not a removable part of the tank and that all the tanks I checked had the same cracked rusted area. Meaning that if the f150's are still on the road they will eventually suffer this dangerous fuel leakage.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

Fuel keeps leaking from second tank somewhere towards the opening. Been like this since the date I have reported till now but never thought much about it until reviewing case NHTSA id number: 43031 and NHTSA ref # 10587059.

58 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/23/2008

I have Fords 35. 6 gallon tank, however the sensor keeps resetting to 28 gallons for a normal gas reading. I have had it replaced 3 times now and Ford says the sensor is the same thing with a switch that no longer works, the refuse to repair the gas sensor and I never have any idea how much gas I have in my tank. It often changes mid drive from a 3/4 tank to just above half a tank and is not steady. It won't register accuratly. The dealership notified the engineers and they said that they don't care and won't come out and fix it but its a known issue. Causing me to be left on the side of the road with what I thought was gas, but turned out was an empty tank.

59 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/23/2007

My 1998 Ford F-150 fits the summary of the NHTSA campaign id # 97v171000. My truck is currently in with the dealer for another reason, including the speed control recall. However, they will not fix the gear position indicator because they state it is not a Ford recall, regardless of what the NHTSA site indicates as a (recall date of 10/07/97) because Ford has to make a recall notice. My indicator is off by one (it says I'm in 'r' when rally in 'p' and so forth). 'I understand not doing a mass recall for this, but when a vehicle is in for a mandatory recall of the speed control catching fire, one would think they would repair a vehicle that is experiencing another known defect as indicated in NHTSA campaign 97v171000. Also, it is in for damage related to the fuel tank, and even though they are replacing the fuels tank and many other items attached to it (I. E. Lines etc. ) they don't feel it is warranted to address another NHTSA recall related to the leaf spring potentially puncturing the tank. That is campaign #98v161000. Regards, steve.

Failure Date: 05/30/2003

When filling the gas tank fuel will spill out, causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified.

62 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/09/2002

Had truck towed to an automobile clinic, and was informed the fire started from the fuel tank. Then, consumer received a recall notice for the same problem.

63 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Ford F-150
