35 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When braking, if one or both rear tires loose contact with the road surface, all braking is lost until the brake pedal is manually pumped. Nlm.
While applying brakes vehicle will not stop. Dealership is aware of problem. Consumer stated that when applying brakes the steering wheel vibrates and shakes. The dealer machined the rotors again but the vehicle still vibrates above 35 mph.
While traveling on highway applied brakes and pedal ent all the way to the floor. There was no brake power. Dealership was aware of problem.
Consumer states when applying brakes, if vehicle hits a bump abs will stop holding causing driver to run into the back of another vehicle.
The power steering went out and the brakes were not working properly, the vehicle shook very hard when the brakes were applied. In July of 2000 the newspaper in beckley, wv , the register-herald, ran an article that NHTSA reports that the Ford f-series super duty truck had problems of losing their steering and brakes. And they could go out without any warnings. That happened to my truck. Ford denies knowing anything about it. What do you know about the report? I have asked to talk to Ford engineers and have been refused. What can you do about this? what do you know about this?.
Vehicle had rear brake fire due to rear brakes dragging.

On februaary 3, 2001 my wife was pulling into the customer pickup area of sears in amarillo, texas as she pulled up to the pickup area and removed her foot from the accelerator to apply the brakes, the accelerator stuck and our pickup truck rammed the backend of another pickup truck in from her. She shifted to revers, the engine still running at a rapid speed, to back away from the vehicle that she had rammed. Since the engine ws running at a high speed, our vehicle raced backward. In order to keep from backing tnto someone behindher, she then shifted into forward gear and rammed the pickup in front of her again. All of this time the rear tires were spinning and smoking. After she rammed the pickup the second time, she turned the ignition off to stop the crazy situation. Had she known, of course, that the throttle was going to stay engaged at high speed, she would have killed the engine earlier. The combination of anti-lock brakes and an uncontrollable throttle is a recipe for disastor.
I think that Ford has a problem that needs to be addressed it is not a complete failure but it will lead to some faital problems. They have addressed the problem on current models but the older ones are still driving around on inadaquit brakes. The rotors are warping with little use and left unattended will cause loss of control of the vehicle. The dealer is putting a bandage on a serious problem.
At about every 7000 mile increments my brakes begin to exhibit "brake shudder" a vibration that occurs when the brakes are applied. Not until I was able to obtain a technical service bulliten and show my Ford dealer was I able to get the problem resolved. Followng is the technical service bulletin: some 1999-2000 super duty f-series and 2000 excursions may exhibit brake vibration or shudder while braking. Engineering has released a new brake pad (p/n f81z-2001-ea), which is equipped with a "v-spring. " the v-spring keeps the brake pad off the rotor, which increases brake pad life and decreases brake shudder and noise. When replacing these brake pad use the pro-cut brake lathe to machine the rotors on the vehicle to a lateral run-out of . 001" or less. Besides the shudder the thing that concerns me the most is the vehicle starts to pull to left or right when I apply the brakes. Thank you for you consideration on this issue. L.
When applying brakes at an emergency stop situation it caused vehicle to pull to right. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on three occasions, and unable to locate cause. Consumer states vehicle is still pulling to the right upon braking.
Powersteering hose broke, causing a leakage. When the consumer applied the brakes, there weren't any brakes. Consumer pressed hard on the brakes, and after a delay, the brakes kicked in.
While driving 70 mph t cruise control would not disengage. Applied the brakes, and vehicle still would not stop. Consumer turned the vehicle off to gain control. Please give any further details.
1. While braking, brakes release when truck hits a bump in the road. Brakes releasing at the wrong time can be very dangerous. 2. Tread seperated from the tire casing (dot number: vnw8 1xl tiresize: 265/175r16).
Upon braking, brake pedal went to the floor, afterwhich a flash fire developed which did extensive damage to wireing, steering column shaft & gear box, 4wd actuation lines etc. This vehicle has had multiple brake service & recalls on the brakes. Ford has redesigned the front rotors & hubs but refuses to upgrade early production vehicles. All early production 1999 Ford f250sd vehicles should be recalled for complete brake system replacement. The rotors warp, they shake when stopping, they have had multiple rear brake recalls, the antilock brakes release & will not stop on rough roads & now mine went on fire. These trucks are death traps! this incident occurred with a vehicle that had only been driven 3 miles, & had no load in the bed. What would have happened if I was in the mountains of pennsylvania towing my 5000 lb trailer & lost the brakes & had a fire ? when I reported this incident to Ford I got the impression that they really didn't care.
Whenever brakes are applied and when running over a bump, it causes a momentary loss of brakes. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and nothing could be found. Please feel free to provide any further details.
When coming to a stop driver hit brakes and vehicle started to bounce, and vehicle went through the light. Consumer felt this was very unsafe. Took vehicle to dealer ,and they replaced brakes and rotors 4 times.
While driving at any speed and applying the brakes they are working intermittently. Consumer has been waiting for parts for about eight months.
The abs braking system malfunctioned while driving over a bump in the road which activated , resulting in extended stopping distance. *akbraking normally with light brake pedal pressure while going over bump in the road causes the abs to engage, accompanied by an alarming loss of braking power. Pumping brakes returns system to normal.
When traveling on highway the brakes, on bumpy surface, suddenly let loose. There are no brakes at all until smooth pavements and slower speed. Speed is not a factor between 25mph, the problem still occurs. Dealer contacted and will check out and contact owner. No response for one month.
Consumer was driving on highway at 65 mph on normal road condition when suddenly consumer had to apply brakes. Front wheel on driver's side locked up, causing vehicle to skid out of control, resulting in an accident, but no injuries. Dealer inspected brake system. Informed consumer nothing could be found.
Abs problems; when applying the brakes during normal braking, more during emergency situations, there is a spongy feeling and a ticking noise coming from the system. The truck does not stop unless driver really jams the brake pedal down. The dealer is not aware of the problem.
I brought a used F-250 4x4 with abs . The fist week using it, failure in stopping was noted. I returned the car , and the deler is checking it. I am very concern about this matter, for my safety and others. I am requesting help, this is normal. I have the same problem with a 98 chev suburban. What I can do to prevent a fatal accident both are big truck.
When brakes are applied in a panic stop, pedal fades, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced brake system.
Intermittently when the brakes are applied in a panic pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has inspected and repaired vehicle.
When traveling and upon depressing the brake pedal consumer noticed vehicle pullling to the left, causing poor steering control, and resulting in several near crashes. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has made repairs, butproblem still occurs. Please provide any further details.
The anti-lock braking system locks up intermittently, pulling the vehicle either sharply to the left or to the right.
While traveling and when pressing on the brake pedal vehicle would travel to the left or the right. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further informaton.
The rear wheel antilock brakes do not work properly, the brakes lock up momentarily, but the dealer states that it was normal, the consumer believes the brakes were dangerous.
When the brakes are applied vehicle either pull to the left of the right. Dealer has inspected the vehicle, and has not been able to correect the problem. Manufacturer has been notified.
If this vehicle hits a bump while applying brakes brakes will release and the brake pedal goes to the floor completely and the consumer was un able to stop the vehicle.
Parking brake does not hold when set. A lot of force is need to set barking brake. Campain id 98v101000 seems to be the same problem with my f250 superduty. Abs problem: brakes go into abs mode when braking on rough (bumpy roads) dry road surfaces. This happens when truck has no load in it. My stopping distances are increased unpredictably. .
The electronic abs 2 wheel control is to senstive. If a bump or pothole is encountered when stopping the abs will trigger. This extends stopping distance by 40%. Abs will not disingeage untill foot is released from brake and reapplied which in most cases will not stop vehicle in time. My abs has triggered 6 times in dry weather normal driving, dealer's response is that abs is showing no fault codes and is working as "designed". This is not safe and could lead to a large truck rear ending a smaller vehicle because of a bump or pothole in the road!.
The abs brake system experienced complete failure on one occasion, consumer had previously brought the vehicle in several times due to extreme pulsation while braking causing difficulty in maintaining control, the dealership was not able to remedy the problems with the system prior to complete failure.
