1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Have owned this truck for a couple of years and have been enduring the "death wobble" over the local train tracks, but I am always able to control my speed. But the other day while traveling down the interstate, I hit a pothole and truck was shaking until brought the truck to a stop. Luckily I was able to get off the road, but this event could have been much worse. Apparently this is a known problem, and it is a shame that the manufacturer has not fixed this obvious safety issue.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

The vehicle shakes violently on the road when I go over a bump when traveling at 65mph or higher. I have to slow down to 50mph or below to get it to subside.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Front end shimmer when crossing over bad road spots. The shaking can be very bad almost lose control.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250. While driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle veered to the left and crashed into a guardrail without warning. The vehicle crossed the highway into oncoming traffic and crashed into another guardrail. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact attempted to move the vehicle and discovered that the steering wheel turned as designed; however, the wheels failed to move. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 226,000.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

At 52000 miles engine started making tapping noise? driver seatbelt not retracting. Frontend shimmy at speeds of 45 to 65 mph.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle shook. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

Recently, while driving my Ford f250 truck, I have experienced the Ford's death wobble on three separate occasions. After driving over a bump in the roadway, the front end starts wobbling to the point that I have to brake and pull over just to stay in control of my vehicle. When this death wobble occurs, it causes the driver has to fight the steering wheel and apply braking just to stay in control of the vehicle. It is a real safety concern!!!! recently, I have read several articles identify the problems with Ford¿s front end and their solutions to fix the fronts ends. As usual, Ford comes up with excuses and not a solution to repair their products. There is plenty of documentation (u-tube video) on-line documenting the serious of this complaint. It is time that your agency takes a closer look at this problem and see that Ford accept responsibility to repair their vehicle.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

I have a 2007 f 250 disel and evry time I am driving over speed bump at 45mp to 65mp my truck shakes like crazy it has been taken to the dealer for a fix but nothing is done I am afraid tha one day this will cos an accident I hope the this mater is taken care soon thank you for your help.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I was towing a car hauler at approximately 65 mph on I-94 outside of chicago, IL when my vehicle began to veer slightly to the right and cross into the other lane. I tried to correct steer to the left and my vehicle did not respond. I began to cross into the next lane of traffic and I began to spin the steering wheel even harder to the left with no change in direction. I realized that I had a loss of steering and began to apply the brakes to avoid hitting the barrier on the side of the road. I ended up crossing four lanes of moderately heavy labor day traffic with zero steering control and came to rest within inches of the retaining barrier on the side of the road.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250. While driving at 30 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and it veered to the left and right. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the steering box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the steering box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Hit a bump on the road and my front end started shaking violently. Had difficulty controlling the vehicle until reducing speed to approximately 35 to 40 mph at which point the shaking stopped. Notice a slight shimmy whenever making a right hand turn (negotiating right curves on the highways). Tire inflation has been checked and not the issue. This vehicle has not been used off-road or abused. It has a crew cab and was purchased to transport personnel and supplies.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2013

I would like to officially submit a complaint about our Ford f250 super duty truck. There is something seriously wrong with it and the Ford dealership has been unable to fix it. We have had the same issue with it for the last few years and the issue has not been resolved! we are experiencing turbulent wobbling with this truck and I can assure you this is not normal! the last incident occurred 2 days ago on may 26, 2013! I have children and feel that our lives were especially in danger when we rode in this truck as we thought this issue was resolved and no longer existed. As we were driving on the interstate highway we drove over an uneven section of the highway and our truck suddenly started shaking dangerously out of control! thankfully my husband was able to control the steering wheel and stepped on the brake to slow it down, otherwise who knows what would have happened! there was traffic everywhere and we were lucky enough not to have an accident! then it happened again a few hours later when we again drove over an uneven section of the interstate. I have experienced enough of these threatening episodes and I am very concerned as this is absolutely not normal and I can honestly say there is something very wrong with this vehicle. This is a safety issue and people can and will lose their lives over this if this is not resolved immediately! I have contacted Ford headquarters to submit a formal complaint and they merely told me to continue working with the dealership that has unresolved my issue. I trust that you will take this complaint seriously as lives are at stake because of this issue.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

Going along around 55 to 60 mph and run across very mild bump and the front wheels will begin to shimmy so bad it jerks the steering wheel back and forth. I have to hit the brakes and slow way down to get it to stop shaking. It is very dangerous feeling and is not tire pressure like Ford claims.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

1) faulty head bolts repair was over $6000 involved gaskets, cracked heads, bolts, updates and upgrades. 2) death wobble front end issues (mine are fortunately occurring at at low speeds) however the wobble has caused many front end and steering components to wear out prematurely. Wobble kicks in after sharp turns and wheel will not return to center and when forced back to center it will wander and hunt for center. Usually up till 20-25mph then self corrects.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

High speed wheel oscillation occurred while driving the speed limit of interstate 275 around cincinnati, ohio. I hit a bump on the exit of the interstates bridge and the steering wheel shook really bad left and right. I had received a letter last year warning me about this condition. I did not think I had a problem with this truck until this happened. I was lucky that I did not crash this vehicle when the oscillation occurred. I researched this on the internet and several other owners for the f250 have had the same problem. Ford needs to fix this problem before someone gets killed!! ## VIN failed ## Ford f250 2007 ##.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

Pronounced and severe shimmy and oscillation in the steering wheel when traveling over small bumps or dips in the roadway and on uneven driving surfaces. Ford dealer confirmed the problem and replaced a tracking bar and the steering damper. These repairs helped but did not eliminate the issue. New oem tires were installed 2,000 miles after the Ford repair. As of Dec 2013 the vehicle now has 78,578 miles which is only 5,000 miles since the repair and 3,000 miles since new oem tires and the same severe shimmy and oscillation in the steering wheel is occurring again. In Dec 2013 I received special field action letter 09l02 from Ford concerning this very issue. Having complied with all points in the special field action letter 09l02 the same problem exists and continues to worsen. This is clearly a safety issue that Ford needs to address with a recall notice and the 09l02 letter is indicative that this is a wide-spread issue.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2011

Driving my 2007 f250 sd and hit a bump, front end started to shimmy. Slowed down and the shimmy stopped. Had received a letter from Ford motor company giving information about the front end shimmy. Since the first incident, it has occured numerous times. My truck is currently at 87000 miles and the shimmy happens numerous times a day when I hit bumps/dips in the road. Diesel shop tells me to keep tires inflated properly, rotate and balance tires as well as proper alignment and have the steering dampner replaced. Steering dampner is brand new (3 months old), tires are at proper inflation and balanced as well as alignment done and the front end still vibrates, sometimes violently to where it is tough to control until speed drops under 40 mph. Still waiting on a fix for this issue as the shimmy is daily and is getting worse and I get the same textbook answer from Ford everytime I call (tires, inflation, alignment, steering dampner). I'm afraid that the vibration will get to the point that parts will start becoming loose/break and cause an accident.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

Picked up my f250 super duty from the service at the Ford dealer, driving it on the freeway overpass, hit a bump on the over pass and my front end started shaking violently. I had no conrol, I had to stop on the freeway to make it stop shaking, almost caused a pile up. Called the dealer and they said they've heard of the problem but nothing they can do.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2011

Running interstate going on bridge in curve an little crack in road made truck start shaking violently. Making me have to come to complete stop before it would quit shaking throwing stuff all around inside truck.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

My 2007 Ford f250, superduty 4x4, harley davidson edition (all stock), experienced extreme cavitation, or wobble, and violent shaking to the steering and front suspension after encountering a mild series of bumps while traveling about 50mph. This has occurred on 3 occasions. I have read 100's upon 100's of complaints online about this same problem with several different year model Ford trucks. I have taken my truck in to the Ford dealership and Ford has even admitted to the problem being with a design flaw and even has a correction for it that includes a newly designed bracket, relocating some steering components, and new specs for the front end alignment, but wants to charge me $1700. 00 for the repair(or redesign). Unbelievable!!.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

After hitting a bump in the road, while driving approximately 55 mph, the front end the truck started shaking causing a temporary loss of control. The truck has done this on numerous occasions after hitting bumps, pot holes or uneven surfaces.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

Ford super duty deathwobble. Problem has persisted since new. Failure occurs at speeds between 30 and 75mph. Failure manifests as uncontrollable steering and whole vehicle oscillation. Has led to loss of control of vehicle more times than I can remember. Uneven road surface instigates said loss of control. Have changed shocks and springs, added dual steering stabilizer in addition to changing stabilizer in stock location, ball joint caster cams added, new tires added (twice) multiple alignments. Most corrective action taken is not to drive it and jeopardize my life or the lives of others. How many need to be killed or injured before someone can be held accoutable?.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

Ford f250 steering oscillation. I know there was an investigation, and the matter is now closed, but how can this be. The simple fact that the tire pressure is the cure all? I currently have the stock tires still, and set to the factory requested pressure. And it will give me "death wobble" many times in the course of the trip. To the point that I even have to pull over to get it to stop. I have the entire front end checked out by a shop and the report was there is no worn out parts. It is a well known fact that tre style ball joints dont work well as track bar ends, yet Ford keeps using them. The complaints all over the internet are not wrong. I am afraid the let me parents drive the truck and they were the main reason we purchased it.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2010

Severe steering wheel and front wheel vibrations. Feels like a tire is coming off, this is causing severe shimmy and loss of control of the vehicle at approx 35-39 mph - thought there were ripples in the road but it happens on more and more bumps, worse today. Happens multiple times per trip various situations. Kids thought is was fun, I was scared to death (this incident happened on a straight away - still terrifying). Have not taken to dealer but will immediately, pressures are good and nothing appears broken hope I can find out before something really bad happens.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

2007 Ford f250 super duty when hitting a rough spot or pot hole at speeds around 70 mph the front end shakes violently. We have taken this vehicle to our local Ford dealer.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250 sd. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently as the contact traveled over an uneven road surface. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2009

Driving at 65mph on a highway coming off a bridge 3 times now the front end will shake very violently. Until you slow down to about 20 mph. I got the letter from Ford about maintaining proper tire pressure after each occurrence I checked the tires and they were at the proper inflation. After the first time I took the truck to a front end shop and they said nothing was wrong. Although they say they have checked several for the same thing I have quit driving this truck and was going to trade it off. But I don't want to pass a problem to a new owner.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2009

2007 Ford f250 super duty 6. 0 liter diesel 4x4. Steering woble (oscillation): purchased vehicle new after about 30000 miles when driving 60-65 mph and hit an rough road surface - steering begins to shake violently until slowed to approx. 40 mph. At 42000 miles had 6" lift and 37' tires and dual steering stabilizer put on vehilce and problem seemed to resolve up until approx. 54000 miles same issue again. Have had wheels balanced, air pressure and allignement check - found loose track bar and tightened. This helped to reduce the frequency of wobble occurence, however still not resolved. Upon researching this it appears to be a global Ford super duty problem whether vehicle is stock or had suspension modifications. It is a potentially dangerous situation that Ford needs to address instead of deny there is a problem.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2009

When driving my Ford F-250 45 mph and over and hitting any kind of bump the front end shakes severely. The brakes when applied will stop the shaking. The damper was replaced but it did not help. If the bump and the speed was great enough it would cause you to crash. The truck has 38,000 mi. And the dealer tells me there is no recall and it is not under warranty. I plan on taking it to an independent front end specialist to diagnose the problem.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that the entire vehicle experiences strong steering vibration and violent shakes after traveling over a bump or uneven roads. The failure was recently noticed while driving 70 mph. The driver stated that it felt as if all four wheels were loose. He has taken the vehicle to several dealers and they stated that the tire pressure was the cause of the failure and refused to diagnose the vehicle. The contact stated that the tire pressure on his vehicle has always remained at the correct levels. He discovered an investigation that was conducted on this same failure by the manufacturer (NHTSA campaign id number pe07057 (suspension:front)). He believes that the tire pressure is not the issue and that a new investigation should be opened and a recall issued. Currently, the vehicle is still experiencing the defect and is rarely driven. The failure and current mileages were 24,900. Updated 06/08/09 updated 06/18/09.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250 sd. While driving approximately 55-60 mph, the contact drove over a road bump and vehicle began to shake violently causing difficulty in steering. The brakes were applied and the failure became worse. The failure occurred when encountering rough road conditions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three occasions and one time to an independent mechanic regarding the failure. The steering stabilizer and mounting bracket were replaced four times yet the failure persisted. The contact was in the process of taking the vehicle back to the authorized dealer for further diagnosis and repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2008

Vehicle forced of I-89 @65mph due to excessive vibration of front left wheel on a 2007 Ford F-250. This problem occurs every time the vehicle hits an imperfection in freeway pavement above 50mph. The shake is so excessive it causes loss of control of the vehicle.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2008

I was driving along with a car in tow. Suddenly, without aggravation, my truck went into a violent shake. It was all that I could do to keep the truck on the road, but it did cross lanes. After slowing to about 30 mph the oscillation stopped. I drag race and drive a car 186 mph in a 1/4 mile; but I am afraid to drive this truck now. I definitely will not put my children in this truck until I'm sure that this problem is fixed. Its a stock 2007 Ford F-250.

34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-250. While driving approximately 60-65 mph or while driving over a bump, the front end of the vehicle shakes dramatically. The shaking is so severe that the contact must apply the brakes to decrease the speed and stop the shaking. A few months after the failure occurred, the dealer replaced the steering dampener. Six months after the repair, the failures recurred. The dealer test drove the vehicle, but were unable to duplicate the failure. They stated that nothing could be done. The contact believes that the vehicle should be recalled. The failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 21,995. Updated 11-25-08 updated 11/26/08.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Steering wheel oscillation, per your reports pe017-057 and ea08007 occurs anytime vehicle is over 50 mph and hits a bump or pothole, violent shaking of the front suspension with loss of vehicle control.
