Air Bag Problems of Ford F-250 - part 1

The contact called to report a failure on a 2021 Ford F-250. The contact, who is a crash investigator, stated that the owner of the vehicle was involved in a crash. While the owner was driving at an undisclosed speed in the opposite lane, the driver ended up in a head-on collision. No other information was available. While inspecting the air bag control module after downloading the information, there was no crash or air bags deployment information retrieved. The contact stated that there was a pattern of the faulty part being distributed from a manufacturing plant for the manufacturer located in kentucky, because this was not the first issue with a Ford F-250 vehicle experiencing the exact failure. The contact was concerned that if vehicle owners were involved in a crash, the air bags modules would not collect or store data, making it difficult to investigate the crash. The failure was due to the air bag control module, event data recorder, and restraint control module, which were unable to download the needed information. The vehicle was towed and taken to the insurance company's lot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Component/system: supplemental restraint system (srs) – frontal airbags and crash sensors. Vehicle is in insurance/salvage custody and available for inspection upon request. On or about December 17, 2025, at approximately 0600, the reporting party was operating a 2013 Ford super duty F-250 lariat crew cab 4wd (VIN [xxx] ) at an estimated speed of approximately 35 mph. Due to fog and wet roadway conditions, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fixed object (tree). The collision resulted in severe front-end damage, and the vehicle was declared a total loss. Despite the severity of the impact, no airbags deployed. The vehicle has been inspected by law enforcement and insurance representatives. The condition has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or manufacturer. No srs or airbag warning lamps or messages were observed prior to the collision. On September 16, 2025, while driving my 2023 Ford F-250 super duty at approximately 65 mph with cruise control engaged, I pressed the brake pedal to disengage cruise. The cruise control did not disengage. I pressed the brake pedal harder, but the truck did not slow down and maintained speed. There was no abs activation sound or sensation, and no skid marks were left on the roadway. I struck the rear of a tractor trailer because the vehicle failed to slow down or cancel cruise control. In addition, the airbags did not deploy during the collision. This appears to be a failure of the brake pedal input/cruise disengagement system, braking system, and potentially the airbag system. This is a severe safety defect that could result in serious injury or death.

I hit an elk at 65 mph while pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with 4000 lbs of hay. The crash warning light did not come on nor did the air bags deploy. The whole front end of the truck is badly damaged. I contacted my local Ford dealer with this information and was told by the service agent that the body shop will handle this. As my concern is how hard do you have to hit something to get the airbags to deploy. I’m concerned for my safety while driving this truck again if it can be repaired. I’m taking it to the repair shop today. I wanted to report this as Ford will be zero help moving forward.

We called our local Ford dealership, matthew Ford of pryor (oklahoma) and made an appointment for the safety recall of replacing the clock spring. They proceeded to attempt the replacement and in the process damaged the steering column module, part no. Gc3z3f791ka. We are now being told that Ford does not have the necessary steering column module part and nobody manufactures it for our trim level, platinum. Consequently, our truck is not able to be fixed and returned to us in the same condition it was given to the dealership. It is still at the dealership, in pieces. We dropped it off on March 27th, 2025.

While driving the morning of 13 Jan 2025 my airbag sensor light on the dashboard illuminated. Shortly after that me and my wife smelled smoke in the vehicle cabin and then we heard a loud explosion and the seatbelt instantly tightened around my chest and waist. It was after I was able to stop safely and research the incident that I realized my drivers side “pretensioner” detonated while I was driving.

I have a safety concern on my 2023 Ford 250 superduty pickup. The front passenger seatbelt indicator does not engage when a person sits in the seat.    the other 4 seats (front driver & 3 back seats) in the vehicle engage as soon as a person sits in the seat showing the seat red in the on the dash until the seatbelt is engaged and then turns green with a check mark on it.    when a person sits in the front passenger seat the seat does not light up on the dashboard like there is no one sitting in the seat.   once the seatbelt is clicked in, the seat then turns to green with a check mark and then if the seatbelt is unclicked the seat will turn red. I took the vehicle in to be looked at.   the Ford dealership put in a new part and it reacted the same way.   they then said that they checked and the seat was working as designed and there was no issue.   I asked them to confirm that the airbags would still engage.   they would not confirm that.   I then called Ford's hotline with my concerns, they said based on what they could see, the airbags would still engage. I feel that all the seats should react the same way and if a person is sitting in that front seat and doesn't use the seatbelt, the vehicle doesn't recognize that a person is in the seat.   and if so, possibly the airbags do not work.

Instrument tech here. I checked all fueses. Ran wire traces and found no brakes in wiring. Faulty seatbelt pertitioners. This should be a recall.

Steering tried to lock up as I tried to turn.

The contact's former employer owns a 2016 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while exiting the freeway at 45-50 mph around a bend, the steering wheel failed to move and crashed into a tree. I was recently hit in the drivers door causing the door, the cab, and the running board to be damaged. The side impact air bag did not deploy. The entire drivers door is damaged and the cab of the truck behind the door is damaged. The running board was completely under the cab of the truck.

I was in a really bad accident nd went off n embankment. My chest hit the steering wheel MD broke my sternum. My seatbelt also didn’t do it port by locking me in place and let me hit forward. Everyone at the scene. Could not believ the airbags didn’t deploy and the seatbelt didn’t help more. I am blessed and very fortunate to be alive!! both doors on passenger side and driver side are hard to open . The damage where the car hit me was in the front.

Vehicle has been involved in 2 major accidents and no airbags deployed either time. In the most recent accident, the vehicle struck a light pole (splitting it in half) and then went into a ditch.

Ford has consistently indicated that the replacement part is available and it is not. Oou truck has a heated steering wheel. The clock spring for the heated steering wheel is different from the standard clock spring. Ford does not have the part. Our truck is not safe to drive.

In 2022 Ford issued a recall for my 2016 f250 for the clockspring. In mid 2023 for said sent me a letter telling me the parts are in stock contact a local dealer for repair. I dropped off my tuck and 2 day later I was told by deal it’s fixed come pick it up. I got in my truck and all the same issues were there. Airbag light is on, steering is sticking, no horn or other electrical working on steering wheel. The dealer said they did a temp fix which I later found was not true, Ford has no temp fix. After contacting Ford directly and being sent to another dealing by Ford corp I was told Ford has no part number or fox for trucks with heated steering. Ford has failed to remedy as their team does not have a part made to correct. This is a safety issues and they have a dealer saying don’t worry your airbag will deploy. Fraud along with failure to remedy in a timely manner.

The contact stated that while driving 63 mph when many of the vehicle's warning chimes and alarms began to sound off and the warning message stating, "traction control failure," had illuminated. At the same time the steering wheel had suddenly locked which caused the vehicle to veer off the side of the road and further into the woods. It is because of these injuries the contact is unable to recall many details, however, they were able to recall that the air bags failed to deploy. . The contact received head, back and leg injuries the vehicle was towed and totaled. There was a police report filed. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer, diagnosed or repaired. Driving home and the air bag light came on.

My blind spot cross traffic system alert activates and deactivates on its on and warning of electrical issues post to my Ford app. Air bag warning comes on send message to Ford app stating air bag not functioning due to electrical issues. Alarm goes off multiple times throughout the day sending messages to Ford app stating hood open when hood is not open and some messages state electrical issues.

This is a safety recall dated December 2022. I have had truck in dealer but they state I have to wait for Ford. If it's a safety issue, when will my safety become priority.

The airbag located in the steering wheel has cracked the steering cover and is exposed. If this were to deploy prematurely or while driving it would pose serious safety risks. I have contacted Ford corporate in regard to this and their only suggestion was to take the vehicle to our dealer to have this replaced, at my own cost, which is missing the point of this needing to be reported and/or recalled as it appears to be a common problem with Ford trucks in online communities. It is a safety hazard and not a warrantied repair. As previously stated I have not taken to the dealership as I want it to be reported/recalled. There was no warning of this issue and it occured Saturday 6/10/23.

The contact indicated that prior to the crash the steering arm had been replaced on three separate occasions. The failure mileage was 25,000.

A notice of recall was received July 2022 by my family with the following numbers: safety recall notice 22s35 / NHTSA recall 22v337. I called NHTSA today to follow up on this notice, which in July 2022 I was told by parsons Ford the fix was not available as of yet. James with NHTSA gave me a number to Ford's customer care hotline. Ford contacted malloy Ford in winchester va which is suppose to call us when an actionable fix is available. They have no clue when that will be so I contacted NHTSA again today which now says there is no recall on my vehicle. So are we driving a vehicle that could potentially kill us or not. Why would the recall disappear within hours of talking to NHTSA & Ford?.

Driver and passenger front air bags did not deploy. Side air bags did deploy. Was hit front passenger side by Ford explorer. Then hit by Dodge truck head on. Then stuck by Dodge truck on passenger side behind back door.

In December 2022, I received a safety recall notice from Ford stating, dust contamination may lead to loss of electrical circuit connection, which may result in failure of airbag to deploy in an accident. Ford stated that when parts become available, they would notify me via email to schedule a service appointment for repairs to be completed free of charge (parts & labor). Parts are anticipated to be available early first quarter 2023. My dealer has no information about availability of parts yet.
