Ford F-250 owners have reported 7 problems related to front suspension control arm (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle steering wheel shakes when driving over rough roads or bumps. Commonly referred to the "death wobble". Truck is difficult to control while the wobbling is going on. My research shows many complaints and very little action from Ford to remedy the problem. This problem is a legitimate safety concern. I believe that Ford should have a recall campaign to fix this problem. The problem is described as a defect linked to abnormal wear and/or loosening of the track bar bushing, damper bracket, ball joints, control arms, shocks and/or struts. Vehicle is currently being repaired by a private shop not the dealer.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250 sd. While driving 70 mph, the front end of the vehicle experienced a "death wobble". The failure impacted the steering and caused a violent vibration to the steering wheel. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Mcgrath Ford (4001 1st Ave se, cedar rapids, IA 52402) diagnosed that the control arm failed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after the repair. The manufacturer was notified and filed case number: 14400173. The failure mileage was 19,500. The VIN was not available.

My truck starts shaking violently at 40-60 mph. Steering control is lost and can only be regained by coming to a complete stop. Truck will not switch lanes and pulling over to the shoulder is impossible due to loss of steering. Shaking is violent to the point of loosening bolts. Taken to dealer to be checked under warranty. They claimed it was air pressure or the need for new tires. The vehicles tires are in good condition and air pressure is set at factory recommended levels. Ford says this behavior is normal. A serious accident extremely possible. An independent suspension shop claims issue is due to defective ball joints, lack of steering damper, and defective control arms.

The right and left ball joints began freezing last summer. The vehicle began to wander and it became increasingly difficult to keep it in my lane of traffic. The problem came on slowly but was first noted by me last summer. This summer it got to the point that it was unsafe to drive because attempting to get the wheels to move slightly resulted in too much movement leading to constant attempts to correct the over-correction. The dealer readily diagnosed the problem as frozen ball joints and required that I pay for the repairs despite the fact that the problem began well before the warranty expired. A dealership employee informed me that they were replacing many of these parts under warranty due to premature failure. The original part did not have any provision to lubricate the joint. The replacement part has a fitting to lubricate it. Obviously Ford made a design change in this part and are not telling owners about the problem. At nearly $1000. 00 to repair it, some owners may choose to delay or forgo replacement and continue to drive the truck when it is unsafe to do so. As a rule, ball joints should be expected to go double the mileage at which mine required replacement. My calls to Ford resulted in no admission of fault on their part. The steering on the truck was so bad that neither my wife or I felt that it was safe to drive at highway speeds.
Balljoints grinding, metal on metal, failure due to unserviceable type balljoints from the factory.
