My brand new 2020 f250 lariat was delivered to my home yesterday. It was driven roughly 80 miles from denver to colorado springs by the salesman who sold it to me, but is otherwise unused. I noticed last night that the emergency brake cable running to the left rear wheel appears to be too long. As a result it has a loop in it that is positioned between the main leaf springs and a secondary spring that I believe engages when the truck is fully loaded. It's pretty obvious that under a full load, the brake cable is at risk of being pinched by the springs. I have little doubt that the dealer will fix this for me when I ask, but am alarmed that other similar trucks may have the same problem.

Tl - the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speeds, a loud clunking sound emitted from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that two leaf springs fractured on the passenger and driver side. As a result, the leaf springs needed to be replaced. A year later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000. Pm.

I was doing some repair work on my Ford F-250 and decided to look around the underside. I was stunned to see that 2 out of 4 leaves of the left rear spring had broken off near the u bolt. The problem was not evident while driving because I have not put anything heavy in the truck. I only found the problem because I was preparing for a long trip with a heavy trailer. The truck was at my Ford dealer the week before and they did not notice the broken spring. While shopping for a replacement spring, I was amazed how many stores made comments like "we sell a lot of these". I called the Ford customer service line to ask them to pay for the repairs and they claimed that they do not get any reports of broken springs. I am a degreed mechanical engineer and am reasonably familiar with the design of springs. I firmly believe that no spring should ever fail under normal use. Had the spring failed while I was on the road, I would have lost control of the truck. My informal data collection tells me that most of the failures happen after the warranty expires. It appears that Ford has no way to know about repairs made by non-Ford shops. Given that the price difference for the repair is substantial, it would be reasonable to suggest the most of the repairs are made outside of Ford. The customer service rep was not interested in the safety aspect and told me there was no other way to contact anyone else in the company. In my best engineering judgment, the spring failed due to fatigue. The problem is much larger than Ford realizes. And all of the vehicles with these springs are getting older every day. I was not killed or injured by this defect only because of my engineering and mechanical abilities enabled me to see and fix it before it failed.

I recently was at a Ford dealer for a transmission related problem. While there I noticed that there was a leaf missing from my left rear leaf spring pack. When I mentioned it to the mechanic he said. Oh yah, we've had to replace a lot of springs, they just keep breaking. He said if I looked on them I would notice that they were made in mexico. He said Ford has been replacing a lot of springs.

Rear suspension too weak to carry truck body causing over travel on springs when driving with 500lbs or more in truck bed. My truck can equiped with a service body tool box. The tires were beginning to rub to underside of truck. Ford decided to replace suspennision with a larger capicity. I was stuck with the installation cost of $600. 00 tires: my left front tire developed a sidewall blister the size of a softball in June,2000. General tire replaced both front tires at no cost but again I paid Ford $25 install cost. Now a few days ago my left rear tire developed a sidewall blister the size of a softball. I've requested that general tire replace all tires with another manufacture but they have refused. They are willing to replace the defective tire but I don't trust there quality enough to ride my family on. Ford has informed me that they have replaced at least 20 or more general tires on the same style truck in the past 6 months. Side wall blisters are very dangers and can explode at any time especially as the tire gets hotter. General tire informed me over the telephone that they are getting a unusually high number of reports for this problem for the same tire. These tires may be missing the nylon ply in the side wall or the componet compound used for adhesion is defective. ( dot number: ador1jc289 tire size: lt23585r16 ).
