1 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

We had traveled aproximately 450 miles and on the last leg of a trip in the mountains. The driver noticed on the last 150 miles of the trip the steering wheel had changed position where the center of the wheel normally was horizontal, was now 45 degrees off and vertical. The vehicle was parked on arrival to destination. The next day the vehicle needed to be moved and unloaded when this was attempted the steering wheel just turned with not control of the wheels. So we were unable to move the vehicle. After an initial inspection of the vehicle and it was placed on a floor jack to raise the front end to look for problems under the vehicle. After turning the wheels manually it was noticed the arm that comes from the steering box was loose at the elbow. After closer inspection it was found that the entire shaft was sheered off at the steering box. We were luck it failed when we were not on the road. It must did the final failure when we drove into our drive way and parked. This might have been a disasterous accident if this had failed while we were driving on the mountain roads we had just driven on our trip.

2 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2011 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

While driving down the highway at speeds in excess of 60 mph, the car will start to shake violoently! it is forcefull enough that you loose complete control of steering and loose the ability to maintain your same lane. The shaking is so violent that I am affrad to put my daughter in the car. I can't imagine if this happened in a construction zoan or traffic. I am thankfull no one else was on the road. The only way to stop this violent shaking is to slam on the brakes and slow down. This affected the traffic behind me as I was in the left lane. The person behind me almost ran into the back of me because we were going from 65 mph to about 30 mph within a couple of seconds. This happened to my truck about a year ago when it had 35,000 miles on it. Ford recognized the problem and they replaced the entire steering wheel column and tires. That was just a temporary fix. I traded my first 2008 F-250 sd in for a new truck for having the same issues. I am to the point where this is getting way to dangerous to be on the roads not only for my safety, but my families and other drivers safety as well. It is a known issue and something needs to be done. There have been over 75 formal complaints on this issue thus far with this make model and year. Does it take causing an accident for it to be investigated?.

3 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/22/2013

We were driving in a parking lot at a slow rate of speed when the steering let loose and we had no control of the truck. The truck crashed into a pole in the lot, and was unable to be moved due to loss of steering. It had to be towed away. Had this been a parking lot with cars and or people there would have been serious consequences. The impact from hitting the pole, caused my wife's neck to snap back and she has some strain in her neck. According to this link Ford has been having trouble with their steering and "death bump" action causing the trucks to shimmy out of control- we did not have any warning- just complete loss of steering> this needs to be addressed before someone is killed.

4 Steering Is Loose problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

Loss of steering control while turning corner. Wheel failed to return to centre without extreme force. Following the corner the vehicle jumped left to right uncontrolled approx 6-12 inches at low speed for 1/2 block. Fighting the wheel I was able to stop, and the steering loosened up allowing me to finish the last 2 blocks of journey at a reduced speed with the steering reacting normally.
