Death wobble in front end of the truck at 40-45 . The truck has been to the shop 4 times for it.
While driving at road speed of 50 mph or more the steering will shake after hitting a pot hole or rough pavement. The shaking is so bad that I have to put on brakes to regain control of the vehicle. I have had the steering stabilizer replaced by the dealer and I have installed new tires. The shaking has decreased, but still occurs at a lesser intensity.
1999 Ford F-250 sd (super duty diesel) pickup truck. On 11/07/06, the pickup truck was being operated on a paved highway in missouri. When the driver attempted to negotiate a curve, the steering failed, the truck continued straight (off-course), but driver was able to gently bring vehicle to a rolling stop. There was no impact or harsh driving involved. Inspection revealed that the hardened ("never supposed to break") steel bolt that connects the long tie rod to the pitman arm was completely broken in two. The failure of this bolt caused the complete loss of steering to the entire vehicle, causing the vehicle to continue on its straight course, until being brought to a halt by the driver. Inspecting mechanic was surprised by the complete failure of the vehicle's steering system.

While traveling at aprox. 25 mph the tie rod end on the right side disconnected with no warning causing that tire to turn out word with the other still straight. Then it happened to the other side while backing out of a parking spot about 2 months after the first time it had happened doing the same thing without any warning it would happen. These parts are poorly put on by the manufactuer. If I had been traveling on a highway at a greater speed this could have been a terible accident causing great injury or death to me or others. There is barely anything holding these ends on stopping them from coming off. The dealership now says it should replace all of the manufactuers parts just to be able to line the truck back out of course this is very expensive. I just need to know if theres any thing I can do to prevent further problem and see if this is a reaccuring problem with other trucks like mine from the Ford company. Dt.

This incident occurred 2 different times, with both front tires in July of 99 and 00. Being that this happened twice on 1 vehicle and happened in such a critical area as the steering, I feel that there must have been more than 1 vehicle to which this has occurred. I feel obligated to report this as there has been no recall on these parts even though it happened to us twice on the same vehicle at low mileage. We were very fortunate that it happened at low speed. Your prompt attention would be greatly appreciated because we feel that there are lives at stake.
Question - I read in the newspaper that there was a problem with the some steering component of the f250 Ford pickup; however, the article did not elaborate. Could you please provide any additional information before I take it into the dealer. Informational, no safety defect listed.
Pitman arm assembly. I have an F-250 "light duty" 3/4 ton. I have a noise from the pitman arm assembly/gear box. I contacted a local dealership and the service manager indicated no recall on that component. However, he did say there was a recall on the expedition because of pitman arm problems. I understand that a dealership needs to lubricate this mechanism. I am concerned about steering safety and if the expedition was recalled, is this similar. Please respond via email. Thanks.
