The contact owns a 2000 Ford f250 super duty. While driving 70 mph, the contact activated the windshield wipers and they eventually stopped working in the middle of the windshield. The wipers have not worked since that time. The dealer stated that his VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 01v258000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor). The purchase date and dealer information were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 103,000.

The consumer replaced the windshield wiper motor twice. The dealership told him that the problem was with the bearing on the motor. The first was replaced in June or July 2003. The second time it had occurred was in August 2004, the consumer was unable to get the repairs done until October 2004. The problem occurred again on 8-14-05. The consumer made an appointment to have the repairs done. Each of these problems occurred under no specific circumstances. As soon as the wipers wereturned on there was a winding noise.
I was driving my 2000 F-250 7. 8 diese at approx. 5 mph. It was snowing outside. I had my wipers on. The wipers became stuck and then my truck began to fill with smoke. I attempted to turn the wipers offs. The wipers would not shut off. I turned the truck and then restarted it. The wipers stopped for a minute then continued to faster. I also saw flames coming from the hood area. My wipers no longer function and I there is strong odor of burnt electrical wiring in the truck. I called Ford about this problem and they said my truck was not part of the recall and they were not responsible.
Recall campaign 01v258000 concerning windshield wipers. When the consumer contacted the manufacturer, he was told that this vehicle did not fall into this recall although the consumer was experiencing the same problem. The wipers were intermittent after about ten miles of operation, then would not shut off. A local Ford dealer replaced the wiper motor assembly.
While driving 45 mph, in inclement weather windshield wipers failed. This caused poor visibility to the driver. Vehicle was taken tot he dealer for inspection.

While driving in rainy weather, intermittently the front windshield wipers failed. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The consumer provided a copy of safety recall 01s24 which was for 2000 Ford f250 with defective wiper motor switch.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning, the windshield wipers stopped while in use. . The wiper motor was replaced under recall previously, however the second time the cover and switch assembly was replaced at the consumer expense. Also the pinion seal was replaced due to a leak. Ph.
Windshield wipers are experiencing the same problem as stated in recall 01 v 258 000. This vehicle was not a part of the recall due to VIN.

Windshield wipers work intermittently. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 4-5 times. Dealer has replaced fuse panel and modulator. This has not remedied problem, dealer thinks it could be a loose wire.
While driving approximately 30 mph in heavy rain windshield wipers stopped working. Consumer smelled burning plastic, and vehicle caught on fire. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over. The rain put out the fire.
