The death wobble. Hitting a bump - no matter the size and without warning - may cause your entire vehicle to wobble/shake uncontrollably and loose ability to steer. You’re only recourse is to let off of the accelerator and try to hold the truck in the lane and pray you don’t have to brake or make a turn. It has happened multiple times but the worse was while traveling I-10 in san antonio, texas while pulling a horse and trailer.
There is a serious issue with the steering that my mechanic says is called the death wobble�. I was driving down the road and the steering began to wobble uncontrollably. My front tires are new, steering component all tight and inflation is accurate. I pulled to the aide of the road and almost crashed. The �wobble� occurs sporadically and is not predicable. It has occurred 6-7 times in the two years I have owned the truck. I am extremely concered as it is my only transportation. My mechanic is saying it is a manufacturer defect and Ford needs to address.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Ford F-350 sd. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph and making a right hand turn, he lost control of the vehicle causing him to crash into someone's mailbox. The contact stated that the power steering became extremely loose and the brakes also failed. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was unable to be driven and was later towed home. The tow truck driver informed the contact that the power steering hose looks as if it fractured, which may have possibly caused the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 253,000. Tb.
Power steering locks up when at a stop or moving slowly making it very difficult to maneuver in parking lots.
The consumer was backing up in a parking lot and without prior warning his power steering went out. Also there was a knocking noise coming from underneath the vehicle. Ts.
Claim number 11-3548-745 - while in stop and go traffic in the far right lane, vehicle 1 was traveling immediately behind vehicle 2, as vehicle 2 stopped for traffic, vehicle 1 attempted to change lanes, when suddenly the steering would not respond, causing vehicle 1 to collide with rear right side of vehicle 2, injuries were a result of impact.
Steering locked up while vehicle was in motion, consumer did not have control of vehicle, dealer replaced gear box, but the problem continued. . Consumer stated that defect caused injury to his back, the steering locked up while applying the brakes.
Driver going 55 mph and lost control of vehicle. Tried to over correct it & went off the road & hit a tree head-on. Vehicle end overended before rolling 3 times. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed. Vehcle was totaled. Passenger in hospital with leg injuries/ broken collar bone & bruises over body. Driver had bruises & emergency room treatment.
Steering wheel would whine whenever wheel moved while traveling at 25 mph or more. Problem caused loss of steering and brakes when occurring. Vehicle been in dealer shop on two occasions, and problem could not be duplicated. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
The steering box broke causing insured to lose control running off the road and into a ditch, claim 03-3137-171.
At slow speed and stoped, the steering wheel can not turn when applying brakes. Contacted dealer, and dealer has not provided any assistance.
When at a stop and applying brakes steering will lock up, resulting in complete loss of steering. Dealer cannot determine the cause. Consumer tested other 2000 f350 diesel models, and noticed all had the same defect.
When wheel hits a curb it would cause steering wheel to lock up. Steering can also be locked up when any object restricts wheel from moving. Problem is gettng worse. Have taken to dealer, and mechanic indicated that technical service bulletin from manufacturer problem is normal.
The consumer class c motorhome unit is a shasta 22. 5 v10 was affected by windy condition and by passing traffic especially trucks at high speed. The dealer examined the motohome and recomended that special equipment be installed to correct the unsafe handling of the motohome. The unit was weighed and was found that there was weight difference of 500 pounds from one side to the other, consumer states he was told by dealer that nine out of ten class c motor homes have steering problems.
When applying brakes it becomes difficult to steer. Ford has issued a TSB on problem. Dealer has inspected vehicle. Consumer states when applying the brakes, you can not turn the steering wheel.
Driving at a low rate speed and entering into a curve teering failed , did not bring vehicle out of curve. Steering wheel did not control wheel, causing an accident.
At low speeds and in gear with foot on brakes steering will lock up ,cannot be moved, due to lack of vacuum . Ford is aware of defect, but cannot fix it.
