1 Instrument Panel problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the insrument panel could not be manually illuminated. The instrument panel would only illuminate at night when the sensor detected low lighting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician stated to the contact that there were no defects and the vehicle was manufacturer to perform as it was. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100.

2 Instrument Panel problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

In a daylight safety zone requiring headlights, I noticed my dash lights were not on, even though my light switch was in the manual on position. This occurred during daytime while traveling through dense groves of trees that allowed enough light to see the road, but produced enough shade to darken my instrument panel. On entering a tunnel, my headlights showed to be on, but the instrument panel lights were not on, causing the instrument panel to be totally blacked out, and creating a potential hazardous condition. This occurred for nearly a half minute until the daylight sensor determined it was dark long enough to activate the dash lights. I brought the problem to the attention of two Ford dealers, who were unable to duplicate the problem with the truck in their shop. The third dealer I contacted was able to verify the problem I experienced; specifically, that while their tests showed all systems checked out okay, dash lights were inexplicably linked to the daylight sensor, regardless of whether the headlight switch was placed in park, on, or auto mode. If the truck was outside in the sun, park and on switch positions displayed the expected parking/headlight/tail light combination, but not the dash lights. Auto position worked as expected. On comparing trucks similar to mine, one with a computer module display and one without (as mine is) the dealer found that the display-equipped trucks dash lights came on as expected in daylight when the switch was on, but the truck equipped as mine, with do display, failed as mine does. Being stumped, both the dealer and I contacted Ford for further insight. To date, while the dealer is willing to pursue the issue to its satisfactory conclusion, Ford tells me that if the dealer cant locate a problem, none exists. I asked Ford to verify the problem with their engineers and determine why the two modules differ, with no success.

3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2009 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the electrical system malfunctioned intermittently and the vehicle stalled. The radio and instrument panel would not work at times. The vehicle would switch into cruise control mode and accelerate. The vehicle was difficult to stop and the contact had to use both feet to brake while hitting the off button for the cruise control. The dealer inspected the vehicle several times but was unable to duplicate the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was approximately 25,000.

4 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/17/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350 sd. While driving 65 mph, the contact lost control of the steering and the vehicle swerved all over the road. When driving over rough pavement, a bridge expansion, or a slight bump, the steering worsens. He has taken the vehicle to the dealer four times and was informed that the tires needed to be rotated, the bushing needed to be changed, and the tire pressure was incorrect. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 36,674 and failure mileage was 10,000. The engine light illuminated. Updated 02-12-08.

5 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/07/2007

I was gone for a few days on vacation. When I returned home I went out to start my 2006 Ford F-350 6. 0 diesel super duty truck. I turned the key on and the head lights worked and the back ground lights for the gauge came on but no gauges no oil pressure no fuel no speed indicator no windows and no radio. I took it back to the dealer it had 4900 miles on it. The dealer checked it out and said that the gauge cluster was fried. The truck had not been started or moved for 11 days. There is no apparent reason for the failure.

6 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/14/2006

The contact owns a 2007 Ford F-350. On November 14, 2007 while driving 35 mph the instrument panel dimmed. The contact was unaware of the vehicle's speed or oil pressure. The dealer stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced, and the serpentine belt and pulley failed. The dealer performed the repairs. Two weeks later the radio and cd player failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again, and the failures were remedied without an explanation of the cause. The vehicle then began experiencing tire failure. The tires were b. F. Goodrich , size lt245/75r17, dot# m343dr211216. While driving 42-48 mph the vehicle began vibrating and produced a humming noise from the tires. The dealer referred to a technical service bulletin , which stated that the vehicle needed a vibration dampler. While driving 70 mph the vehicle would disengage from the cruise control intermittently. On March 27, 2007 the contact brought the vehicle to the dealer, where it remained for two days. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by a cylinder that engaged the four wheel drive and the cylinder relay was replaced. The current mileage was 3,400 ,and failure mileage was 36.

7 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/25/2006

Brought a 2006 Ford f350 super duty in February. One morning in October I started the truck let it warm up and went to drive it. As I was getting on to a on ramp I looked down at my gauge cluster and noticed the speedometer was reading below 0 mph, when I was doing approximately. 45 - 55 mph. Then I got off the highway came to a stop at the light. Started to take off again and the gauge was still reading 0 mph. So I pulled over to a safe location and called the dealer up, they told me to shut the truck off and start it again. Once I did that the problem was fixed and has not done that since. All the other gauges were reading fine, truck had normal power and ran like it should.

8 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/03/2006

2005 Ford f350 crewcab vibration while pulling a load, turbo unit has been replaced twice, dash cluster once, exhaust leak. ***** the temperature gauge was acting erratic. There was a steering noise when making turns. The consumer was told the vibration that he was experiencing was being investigated.

9 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/10/2006

My 2003 Ford F-350 super duty truck speedometer and odometer quick working and required replacement of the entire instrument panel. It took months to get a replacement unit from Ford because (according to the dealer) the units were so back-ordered due to the high rate of failure of this particular assembly. I had to pay for the replacement unit. During the months I drove without a speedometer and odometer, there was no way to determine how fast I was driving nor any accurate means of keeping track of the actual mileage of the vehicle. The dealer kept the faulty unit. A vehicle without a speedometer should be outlawed. A vehicle without any method of determining the actual mileage by which to monitor epa compliance should also be outlawed. According to the dealer, many Ford trucks have this same problem and this was not an isolated incident.
