Electrical System Problems of Ford F-350 - part 1

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the disconnect/reconnect message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal with the trailer brake control, the system indicated that there was no trailer detected. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The contact stated that the fuses, wiring harness, and trailer brake control were replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v193000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that a mechanic would be sent to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Loss of power to trailer brakes. Lights work, brakes get no power. Tested at plug on truck, no brake power, fuses checked, all still good. No messages for disconnected trailer.

The junk cab mounts deteriorate so fast the cab settles and crushes the wiring harness causing many electrical issues. There are many forums that talk about bad cab mounts and what components to use to repair them, but in my opinion this is a Ford issue.

1 month ago my vehicle intermittently would not shut off. You could hit the start/stop button and from all dash board appearances the truck was off, but the truck was still running. I resorted to pulling a circuit breaker to get the truck off. I found NHTSA 10226938 and replaced the battery junction box as prescribed. This fixed the vehicle for a few weeks, but now the issue is back. There is no water intrusion in the bsb junction box.

The connectors (part #1 huzz-14s411-hb) and (part #2 huzz-14s411-fa) are located in on the frame of the truck where the back wheels throw water towards when driving on wet terrain. They tend to hold water which causes electrical damage. This is happening on multiple Ford trucks from 2020 - current models. This is causing tail light, ac, radio and other failures to occur.

Brake light failure. Appears that the brake lights were stuck in the illuminated position while the vehicle was not being used. I had to disconnect the batteries to disable the lights.

Consistently shutting off when truck starts. Happens every 5-7 startups and says have advanced traction control serviced at same time.

Rear camera intermittent failure. I was just notified of the recall, but I'm experiencing the issue. Ford doesn't want to authorize the repair under the recall, even though they sent the notice, and I'm having the problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic signal with his foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly accelerated as if he had applied the accelerator. The contact stated that his vehicle front end crashed into the rear end of the vehicle. The contact stated that he turned the vehicle off to stop it from continuing to gain forward momentum. The contact stated that he was able to restart the vehicle and pulled over. The contact stated that his lower front bumper was dented and had scratches. The contact stated that the vehicle he had crashed into had damage to the tail gate and rear bumper. The contact stated that no one was injured and both vehicles were able to drive away. The police were not called. The contact stated that prior to the crash the vehicle was having multiple electrical failures and numerous warning lights had illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle repaired, however the contact stated that he was still having warning lights and that the vehicle was shifting roughly from park (p) to drive (d) or from park (p) to reverse (r). Additionally, the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was failing to respond when he applied the pedal. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer who replaced the battery junction box. The contact stated that the dealer had replaced the battery junction box according to a manufacturer technical service bulletin number 23-2133 (electrical system). The contact stated that prior to the crash, again the accelerator pedal failed to respond when he applied the pedal. The contact stated that he had used a hand held scanner and was getting codes for electrical system failures, ignition cylinder codes, abs faults, body control module throttle control codes. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the dealer not conti.

The back up camera on my f350 froze the image on the screen as I was backing up, and I didn’t realize that I had backed into my daughter’s car. I ripped my fender off and wedged my tires up underneath her crv there was no warning and I didn’t realize there was a recall on it because I hadn’t gotten anything in the mail. I did it my own driveway so I didn’t call the police and I haven’t turned on insurance yet. I wanted to see what I needed to do.

Fan clutch failure at 34,000 miles, new clutch installed, fan clutch failure again at 47,000 miles. Causes unpredictable accelerations, delayed reaction and poor driveability. Ford did not honor warranty for first fan clutch as when they could service it, the truck was over 36,000 miles. No warning lights or other indicators, extreme engine noise when driving.

My back rear view camera quit working immediately about 4 or 4 weeks ago. I tried to see if I had a loose wire but. One seemed loose or broken. I only have a blue screen. My rear facing camera over the cab stop light works fine if the switch is pushed. Now I have noticed there are thousands of Ford vehicles already recalled for rear camera issues. However when I called my dealership I was told I’m not on the recall list. As far as I can tell it’s because my Ford f350 is a 2022 built in July of 2021. I hate to say it but I believe the recall needs to be expanded. As I’m sure there are a whole lot more vehicles with this rear camera issues. Please take this case into consideration and hopefully get it included in the recall.

Driver and passenger traveling on [xxx] when white smoke came out of dash. Turned onto [xxx] and stopped. Driver and passenger exited truck and opened hood as smoke was becoming more visible and fire started from under dash. Passenger called 911while driver used fire extinguisher and attempted unsuccessfully to put out flames as they kept restarting. As the flames increased they heard "popping and banging" noised coming from the truck so they retreated to a safe distance and waited for the fire department. My truck is only 3 years old. However about 3 months ago I noticed my rear view camera quit working. I only get a black or blue screen. Every other camera still works. I know there are over 1 million Ford vehicles with this exact same issue that are under a recall. I would like to know why mine is not. I do not think it is fair I have to pay to repair an issue that’s covered by over 1 million other Ford vehicles.

Since my vehicle has been in warranty I've had intermittent issues where my vehicle loses track of what gear its in and forces downshift to 1st gear. For the most part this only happened when I was going slower speeds. I told my Ford dealer about it but they said there were no recalls for it. On Wednesday while driving at highway speeds my dash lights indicating the transmission position began to flicker then my vehicle downshifted to first gear locking up the tires and screeching me to a near halt.

Minor issue started during heavy rain last week, went out in morning and power steps would not function. After starting, the rear sliding window opened and would not shut. Researched solution and reset the steps in the computer. Let truck sit for 5 hours at work (not raining) and apparently circuit dried out and window was able to close. Fast forward to Thursday night (4/1), flood rains had started. On the way home from work, the rear sliding window started opening again by itself, but was able to close it with the switch. It did this several times. Went out to start the truck Friday evening and all I got was flickering lights that dimmed when the start button was pushed. No controls worked. By saturrday morning, there was no lights or any control. All electronics are non-functional. I checked and the batteries are fully charged, so it is not a battery/alternator problem - I expect water has infiltrated into the electronics/computer. Luckily, this short out did not happen on the whole system while I was driving.

The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 76 mph with his wife in the front passenger's side seat, the vehicle shuddered uncontrollably and stalled. The contact and his wife were concerned for their safety. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle and pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The contact stated that as an independent mechanic he used a code reader to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes for the fuel control module wiring harness failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 05v270000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the fuel control module wiring harness failure had caused warning lights to fail to illuminate as needed. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was previous repaired under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that an elbow vacuum tubing connector was previously replaced under the recall; however, the contact advised the manufacturer that the recall involved replacing the entire fuel control module wiring harness. The manufacturer informed the contact that the recall was already marked completed and no further repair could be covered. The contact stated that the dealer and the manufacturer had failed to honor the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 190,019.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the front passenger’s seat warmer was overheating and emitting a burning odor and smoke. The contact pulled over and noticed that the smoke was coming from underneath the seat and the wires were burning and had started melting. The contact arrived at the residence and her spouse disconnected the wires underneath the seat. The seat belt warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the main information center failed to immediately activate certain electrical systems intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed there was no recall on the VIN. The manufacturer opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

After purchasing our Ford f350 in October 2024, on [xxx], the truck did not start. The starter appeared to work, but the engine would not turn over. An error message appeared about the fuel gauge on [xxx], but then disappeared by [xxx]. The fuel gauge stopped registering fuel in the tank. Fortunately, the non-starting issue occurred locally and the truck had to be towed to a local Ford dealer. Upon inspection by a Ford dealer service department, it appears as though rodents have chewed through the soy-based polymer used for electrical wiring. It is currently at Ford city in urbana, illinois and the dealer is taking photos of the damage. This will likely cost several thousand dollars to repair. My [xxx] daughter uses this truck to pull a horse and trailer to horse shows often several hours away. The engine failure would have put her and her horse at great risk had it happened on her way home when she stopped for gas or at a rest stop. We will likely have a geico insurance representative examine the damage as well. However, I don't feel this should be at our expense and affect our insurance rates as it is a "defect" in the design of the Ford f350. Unknown component that failed. Suspicion, the fuel system located at the back of the fire wall on drivers side. The fire started in that location and was extremely hot and fast moving. The truck was fully engulfed within 1. 5 minutes then burnt the attached 5th wheel trailer and contents. It was a total loss of 3 vehicles 2018 Ford f350, 2021 dutchman voltage 5th wheel trailer, and a 2013 polaris rzr side by side utv. All was reduced to rubble within 15 min. Our safety and lives were at risk, we had 30-45 seconds from smelling and seeing smoke to flames. We were traveling on interstate 15 at highway speeds and had to stop as safe as possible on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle has not been inspected as far as I know, the frame is all what is left. There were no warning lights and all gauges read normal,.

The audio system “glitched” and all of the speakers started screeching at maximum volume. I was unable to get this to stop outside of turning the vehicle off. It is so loud my ear were ringing for hours. This is loud enough it could definitely cause someone to wreck and impairs driving ability. I could also smell the electrical in the speakers getting hot and was fearful of an electrical fire. No warning lights. Not reproducible.

Vehicle dash goes blank when a trailer is hooked up to the truck. This leaves the driver with no information on the engine. This is a serious safety issue becuse the driver has no information that could protect the vehicle from having serious engine problems and possibly catching on fire.

Battery failed on the drivers side. The 12 volt outlets quit working except after driving down the road for a while. They all the sudden started working. Went to auto zone the battery tested bad. When replacing the batteries the one on the driver side that failed had less weight then the one on the passanger side even tho they were the same battery make and model.

Driver door will not lock or unlock.

Computer-dash info screens and drive modes. I am unable to change or check onboard dash info upon starting vehicle. Dash does not hold settings one day to the next. Unable to get into or change settings such as trailer settings-so can’t change braking effort-dangerous when hauling 20,000# trailer! cannot put truck in tow mode or any other mode-defaults to slippery road mode. Again dangerous. Says hill start assist, hill descent assist and pre-collision assist is unavailable . This is all very potentially dangerous especially when hauling! dealer cannot find problem. After truck is driven a while settings can be re-entered-truck has to be turned off first. Unable to load video of start up.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-350. The contact stated that Ford pass failed to connect and communicate with the system. The telematics control unit (tcu) b157d 89 was inoperable. The information screen was blank. The contact stated that the failure was related to ssm 49292 and customer satisfaction program 24b47. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

Ford knew there was an issue back in 2021 as they so filed with your agency. Yet waited. Then warranty claims continued. Now, four years later they file as a safety issue, but have told me twice in phone calls that I can drive the truck, despite it could shut down on it's own while driving. I tow donated RV trailers to the north carolina disaster, now I cannot as my dealership advised I not go on long trips. Ford refuses a like loaner, or any loaner at all. This is a Ford issue, not mine nor the dealership and Ford needs to either replace all suspected parts, have a resolution now or proved no charge loaners of like kind to all owners. This approach by Ford is totally unacceptable as they in two phone calls to corporate never once said to not drive the truck and the letter I received said they are not advising we park the truck.

Main fuse panel shorted out with 6700 miles on vehicle - short created constant power to ac compressor locking it up and damaging all ac components. Cabin filled with smoke at time of electrical failure.

Due to a recall, the vehicle computer was reprogrammed by local dealer, griffith Ford, in san marcos, texas. After the reprogramming, the engine and transmission starting to rev differently and could not shift gears smoothly as previous to the reprogramming. The transmission and engine does not synchronize correctly. The transmission tries to do more than 6 speeds when the transmission is a 6 speed transmission. Turbo is also not as smooth as previously. Possibly the new program used to reprogram the computer is either for newer vehicles with different engines and/or transmissions.

Rear center high mount camera on chmsl has stopped working after one year after purchase.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-350. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v957000 (fuel system, diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start intermittently and required several attempts before the vehicle started. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle lost power and coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced; however, the repair was not covered under the recall. The contact was unable to confirm what repair was completed. The failure recurred the following. The contact stated that the failure had occurred approximately 10 times. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

When connected to a trailer the instrument panel goes blank. I am unable to se any important information about the truck such as but not limited to coolant temp, oil temp, transmission temp, boost pressure, etc. Having driven trucks that pull hard this information is critical. I have researched this issue on the internet and found that I am not the only person having this issue. Ford is aware that they have a problem and indicated that they have resolved it on the 2025 models, but not on the 2024 models. I feel that this is a safety issue and needs to be resolved. Thank you.
