Other Fuel System Problems of Ford F-350 - part 1

When exiting the interstate and coming to a complete stop at the bottom of the exit ramp we went to make a right turn onto a two lane mountain road when we felt a hesitation and within seconds the engine began to sputter, we lost power and the check engine light came on. This was a two lane 55mph road with no shoulder pull off. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic in the other lane and there was also an abandoned fruit stand parking lot which were were able to drift across the road and stop in. We experienced a complete loss of power. Had there been oncoming traffic or no open parking lot just across the road we might have experiened a crash. It is important to note that we were on a vacation in the mountains and thankfully our RV was parked at the campground we were not towing it at this time. We had to find a tow service to have the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealership in the area. The dealership notified us that there were metal shavings/flakes in the lower fuel filter housing. They told us that this was a complete fuel system failure and that we would need a complete fuel system replacement of all parts. We had been notified of the recall (safety recall notice 24s78/NHTSA recall 24v957) in January 2025 and we had taken it to the local Ford dealership who advised there was no fix for the problem at this time. The dealership that our truck was towed to after this incident advised us that we would have to pay for all the repair costs (excess of $10,000) as this was still an open recall. We feel that this is a major safety issue - we were due to leave for home the following morning where we would have been towing a 7500lbs travel trailer on the interstate roads. Had we experienced this failure then it could have been truley tragic for not only us but other motorists. After this incident we called Ford motor company and advised them and they told us it was still considered an open recall with no fix available.

My 2013 F-350 super duty 6. 7 diesel truck has a problem with the def system and power loss. I had a check engine light come on, and an autozone scan shows a p20ba power train system and a few other codes were noted (see attached documents). I took it to my selling dealer, and they confirmed the reductant heater needs to be replaced. I found out there is a recall for this defective part on just about every Ford f-series 6. 7 diesel "except" my specific year and model. The recall on all of the other f-series trucks have the same defective part as my truck has. Why is Ford getting away with this. If the part installed in my truck is the same defective part that is being replaced on all of the other trucks, why is my truck not included in the recall, it is the same defective part. It is costing me over $1,700. 00 to replace a known to Ford and ntsb, a defective part. I would think Ford should be ordered to include my truck in the recall or replace at cost of parts only and not the full-blown excessive charge I am having to pay. Please help.

And Ford puts them on trucks and refuses to recall them knowing good and well they are not designed for diesel fuel in the united states. 1 month ago my vehicle intermittently would not shut off. You could hit the start/stop button and from all dash board appearances the truck was off, but the truck was still running. I resorted to pulling a circuit breaker to get the truck off. I found NHTSA 10226938 and replaced the battery junction box as prescribed. This fixed the vehicle for a few weeks, but now the issue is back. There is no water intrusion in the bsb junction box.

Bosch cp4 high pressure fuel pump failed in transit cost $10,713 to repair only 155k miles on new engine. Diesel fuel spilled from engine on highway, lucky no fire. Ford no help.

A large fuel leak occurred. The amount of diesel coming out of the top of the fuel filter area was so substantial that I could not drive the vehicle.

Vehicle information: VIN [xxx] VIN [xxx] both vehicles have already experienced critical failures that directly align with the described defect in the recall, including: failure of the cp4 high-pressure fuel pump repeated clogging of the water/fuel separator filter loss of power, extended crank times, and intermittent no-start conditions these issues occurred prior to the recall remedy being available and have compromised vehicle performance and safety. I am requesting: a full inspection and evaluation of the fuel systems under the scope of recall 24s78 once the software becomes available. Coverage or reimbursement for repair or replacement of the cp4 pump and related components if found to be caused by biodiesel-related damage as described in the recall. I own a 2020 Ford F-350 with the 6. 7l power stroke diesel engine. It uses the bosch cp4 high-pressure fuel pump, which is known to be prone to sudden, catastrophic failure. If the pump fails, it sends metal shavings through the fuel system, which can cause complete engine shutdown without warning — a dangerous situation while driving. Currently, an unresolved safety recall exists that could cause additional potential damage to this high pressure fuel pump, which only increases the odds of the pump itself failing. That said, the present unresolved recall does not solve the problem of a faulty high pressure fuel pump. Ford is aware of the issue and switched to a more reliable pump in later models, but has not issued a recall or offered repairs to affected vehicles. This is a known defect that affects safety and reliability. While mine has not failed yet, many owners have experienced engine failure due to this pump, and I believe it’s only a matter of time. I’m concerned for my safety and the cost of repair if this part fails.

Vehicle died while driving on the freeway. Towed to the local Ford who did a diagnostic and test they found that the engine is completely done with as there was an engine oil overfill, and it filled the cac system and melted cylinder eight piston. They’re saying that they will need to replace the entire engine and hp fuel pump in order to repair and I see many others have experienced this same problem.

While driving on a highway on two occasions my truck suddenly displayed low fuel pressure. I lost complete engine power. First occasion Ford said was fuel control module. Second occurrence same thing was on interstate 78 low fuel pressure signal and engine stopped working. Been in touch with fullerton Ford in somerville where vehicle was subsequently towed to. Representative stated it is the low pressure fuel pump that is causing the intermittently loss of pressure. Almost got killed on the highway trying to get over to the shoulder with the sudden loss of engine power due to loss of fuel pressure. Vehicle still at dealer unknown if part has been replaced.

While operating my vehicle on a busy road the power failed and vehicle shut down. Saftey of myself and others were at risk as this occurred while actively driving. Upon restart attempt vehicle failed to start. Vehicle was towed to and inspected by an independent service center. Mechanic advised, based on codes from check engine, the high pressure fuel pump failed and metal shavings were in my fuel system. Mechanic replaced pump, flushed system. Upon return of fixed vehicle power dropped out, check engine light appeard again. Returned to independent service center with codes of metal shavings in fuel sytem again. Pistons replaced, still being worked on for further issues. No prior warnings, check engine lights, recall notices etc. Contacted Ford dealership, advised there was no fix and nothing they can do, advised to call corporate. Called corporate who advised I'd be notified via mail when a fix was available and no further help can be given despite the condition of the truck. Truck is unable to be driven due to constant power failures. Advised to tow truck and get a rental, both at my cost, until a fix was discovered which could be upwards of 1 year, keep receipts as I may be able to submit for reimbursement but it was too soon to know if those reimbursement services would be covered under a fix for the recall 24s78.

Engine shuts off upon acceleration on the onramp to a interstate highway causing the Ford f350sd, 6. 7l diesel to come to a stop in the outside lane of interstate i81. Engine shutdown happened again on a 2 lane highway while passing a slow farm tractor. The problem has been confirmed by harrisonburg Ford, harrisonburg, va. The high pressure fuel pump is causing metal to be distributed throughout fuel system. The complete contaminated fuel system is required to be replaced by a high pressure fuel pump kit, which the dealer ordered against the workorder for my truck. For over a month now, my truck is parked in the dealer storage and stating they are waiting on approval to start repair. Note I have Ford's extended warranty. I've read online that many other owners of 6. 7l diesel trucks are having the same problems. I my opinion, a recall is certainly justified for this issue.

The fuel filter housing cracked and started pouring diesel out the top and back of the engine. No warning lights going to dealer for replacement. This can be very dangerous for vehicle occupants and another motorist.

The cp4 fuel pump failed causing the entire fuel system to be replaced. It is the same pump that is covered in the recall for 2020-2024 6. 7 engines.

Unknown component that failed. Suspicion, the fuel system located at the back of the fire wall on drivers side. The fire started in that location and was extremely hot and fast moving. The truck was fully engulfed within 1. 5 minutes then burnt the attached 5th wheel trailer and contents. It was a total loss of 3 vehicles 2018 Ford f350, 2021 dutchman voltage 5th wheel trailer, and a 2013 polaris rzr side by side utv. All was reduced to rubble within 15 min. Our safety and lives were at risk, we had 30-45 seconds from smelling and seeing smoke to flames. We were traveling on interstate 15 at highway speeds and had to stop as safe as possible on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle has not been inspected as far as I know, the frame is all what is left. There were no warning lights and all gauges read normal,.

After the truck had been sitting in the driveway for a couple days I noticed a wet spot underneath the truck, I looked under the truck and noticed there was diesel on the fuel line and the top of the fuel tank was wet with diesel fuel.

Cp4 catastrophic failure which is a known and common problem it caused my truck to die while on the highway almost causing a crash.

Ford sent me a recall for my 2020 f350 powerstroke saying they are trying to come up with a computer programming to fix faulty fuel pump in my truck which could lead to loss of power and crashing especially while pulling heavy loads. This is a mechanical issue. It has nothing to do with a software update which they claim they do not have but will try to get. There is no fix for this at the time. There actually is a fix. S&s makes a dcr fuel pump specifically to replace these fuel pumps because these fuel pumps can blow up and ruin the entire vehicle as the vehicles with these fuel pumps are extremely expensive. . The maker of this dcr pump for a 2020 f350 6. 7 l powerstroke diesel has found the mechanical problem internal to the existing fuel pumps engineering and has designed a new one. I'm sure Ford can pay for these to be put in their vehicles or design one that is similar but these are already being made, sold and installed. Ford says they do not have a remedy for this at this time but there is one and it is this dcr pump. I saved my entire life and have people working in this truck in my family in this truck since couldn't be a serious safety issue and potentially cause death. I think Ford should be having these aftermarket units put in free of charge as all safety recalls are installed free of charge. Anyways, I wanted to write to see if this would be possible or if Ford can be pushed into doing the right thing and installing these in their vehicle. They are about $2,000 and probably around $1,000 to install, but you're talking about losing a $ $70 to $100,000 vehicle and a life. I think it's worth it.

Ford issued recall 24s78 in December of 2024. This recall addresses a known safety issue with the fuel system. It's nearly six months later, and the solution for the recall is still not available. I'm concerned that my 2020 Ford super duty is unsafe to drive, especially when towing a heavy load. Can you please force them to resolve this important safety recall?.

At this point, nothing has happened. This is a fuel pump, bio-diesel issue that can cause a lack of power which is a safety risk. This recall has been active for 7 months with no remedy listed, but according to Ford motor company will require a software update? the remedy is replacing the fuel pump with a dcr valve. Waiting for the truck to breakdown and potentially leading to loss of life should not be acceptable. They know about the issue, they say no remedy, yet they are continuing to manufacture these vehicles. Are they manufacturing new vehicles with a known safety risk or did they fix the problem on newer model vehicles and just stonewalling current owners?.

The cp4 fuel pump sent metal shavings into the fuel injectors and the engine quit. No warning light came on at all. The entire fuel system had to be rebuilt. [xxx] my 2019 Ford f350 extended cab 4x4 6. 7 diesel engine caught fire while I was driving on [xxx] I was pulling a small gooseneck horse trailer with 2 live horses inside. I was traveling at 60mph. No modifications to the truck, everything stock. A car pulled along side me pointing to the front of the truck yelling your on fire. Immediately got off on an exit ramp, the truck engine died and I lost all power . I tried to put it in park nothing happened. The truck and trailer started to roll backwards off an embankment. I got the emergency brake on. My wife and I exited the truck the whole front end was on fire 50 ft + flames . We got the horses out and away . According to parkhills mo. Fire dept truck burned to the ground in less than 15 minutes. They stated it was a fuel fed fire. All the fire crew and responding police officers stated it was a common occurrence for that model Ford to catch fire . This truck had 19,967 miles no modifications. No warnings ,no fuel smells . Nothing to indicate any problems. Truck went from running perfect to burned up in less than 15 minutes. Total loss of the truck along with all my personal belongings. I have sent in a previous complaint as our truck would die in the middle of the road, due to the fuel pump. It is unacceptable that Ford has not resolved the recall issue in 9 months. Our truck is needed daily for our business. Please make Ford take action.

Engine is the 2. 7 ecoboost and is becoming louder and louder with many ticks and sounds whether you are driving or idling the vehicle at a stop light. Every morning the engine ticks and revs very high and emits huge billowing white smoke from the exhaust whether it’s warm or cold outside. Believe the engine is needing to be replaced in the upcoming recall from Ford for the exact engine.

I have 2100 miles on 2023 f350 6. 7l high output and saw as I was walking up to it a puddle of diesel on the ground. I know fuel leaks are dangerous and can cause fires so I’m not going to try it until I can get it in for service. I will be scheduling an appt tomorrow to get the problem fixed. I haven’t yet had the vehicle inspected. I had no check engine lights on or nothing showing there was a problem until I smelled diesel.

The fuel pump failed causing the truck to lose power and ultimately shutdown while driving down the interstate. No warning messages received. Our safety was put at risk because the vehicle completely shut down causing us to almost get rear ended on the interstate this problem has been confirmed not only in our vehicle but thousands of other vehicles of the same year, make, and model.

Sudden loss of acceleration at highway speed. Engine sputtered and died as I coasted to a stop on a two lane bridge. Very dangerous location. Was able to restart engine. Ford dealer at next exit. Checked out and no codes thrown. Advised to keep driving until recurrence. Took to hometown Ford dealership and after three days reported no codes, no recurrence, and no problems detected. Advised to keep driving until recurrence.

Diesel coming from upper fuel conditioning module. Large amount, top appears to be broken.

Truck showed alert of decreased power twice withing a month. When taken into Ford they sated the fuel pressure pump and fuel rail were damaged due to pump sending metal shaving throughout the fuel system. I have found out through research that this is a common occurrence due to a faulty pump that was originally installed in the trucks around these dates. No recall or alert has been given to owner buying these vehicles and now requires a very expensive repair to correct (with a whole different type of pump) and avoid future issues.

We were leaving kerrville TX around 12:00pm may 22 2024 on our way to colorado for a fishing trip. We got to colorado city TX 3:45pm to refuel and grab a late lunch, we left at 4:30pm. We went through snyder and post TX and approximately 5:45pm 1. 2 miles southeast of southland TX, I had a warning come up on the dash saying low fuel pressure and reduced engine power and had smoke coming in then I pulled over ASAP and upon opening my door flames hit my leg and even more smoke began to fill the cab rapidly. We were fighting for our life’s. You could see fuel dripping/ flowing driver side under hood, location secondary fuel filter you can even see a trail on the pavement. I knew I had to move quickly and grabbed my 2 fire extinguishers and put to use and after I started throwing all combustibles and as many tools used on the ranch away from the vehicle. 6 great samaritans helped with 7 fire extinguisher as we made time to be able to separate truck and trailer by pulling the trailer from the back. But with 8-9 fire extinguishers did not put it out which is a serious problem, I now unfortunately know the taste of fire extinguishers and vehicle smoke. I got all combustibles and the trailer separated and I knew the truck was gone and I needed to get away, it seemed something was fueling it! it all happened so quickly. 84 north and south was closed. The first firetruck with water showed up at 6:07pm and the cab of the truck had completely melted away. A great samaritan offered to haul the saved trailer to an RV park. I thanked the great samaritans, firefighters and sheriff for the help with the unbelievable shocking event that had just happened. 7:05 we were in route to the RV park as the sheriff cleared me to go. Now I have been dealing with smoke inhalation. I have never seen such an intense fire and it had me fight or flight mode. Truck had been maintained to the up most. This was a very traumatic event and has affected my breathing, sleep, ptsd and my confidence to drive.

This vehicle has horrible throttle response. When I take off normally then let off the gas then try and accelerate, there is a 2-3 second lag in acceleration. It’s dangerous because I’ve had times where I can’t get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Not all of these trucks have this and I want Ford to rectify this for safety’s sake.
