1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2026

I was driving down [xxx] . I stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green I pressed the gas to accelerate when suddenly mid intersection my transmission went out causing me to have no power. Approximately 5 minutes prior to this I did get a message about a transmission malfunction. Due to the transmission going out I was stuck in the intersection. I had it towed to a shop where they have confirmed that the transmission control module (tcm) has failed. There are a couple parts of the transmission that they have not been able to confirm whether they are working due to the tcm failing. I believe that the tcm failing can put drivers in a potentially unsafe position like it did to me. I was stuck in an intersection of 2 very busy roads due to this failure. I dont currently have the part that failed with me. It is still currently on the vehicle. The vehicle and component has not been inspected by anyone other than the shop it was towed to. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2021

Purchased used on March 2021 dealership somehow made it drive perfect until I drove it for 2 days. Then noticed engine shifting issues, loss of transmission engagement while driving, no-start, or a lack of power. Idles very rough in parked position- spitting and sputtering. Vehicle stalling, losing power while driving, rpms at 4 while on highway @ 65-70 mph as if it never changed out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Called Ford and had the tcm updated April 2021 at gabriel Ford dealership, livingston texas. The update did not help and I was told that I needed to ?drive it like I stole it? but that makes the power-train issues worse. Ford dealership pointed me to NHTSA to write a complaint. As of may 15, 2021 it doesn't matter if its on highway, local in town, low mph or 65 mph the transmission continues to jerk, lose power, sputter, after updating the check engine warning light never came on when transmission issues happened. Vehicle jerking. After driving about 20 miles with rpms at 4 stopping at a light then trying to accelerate the vehicle sputtered and would not gain acceleration, very slow to gain acceleration. Loss of acceleration power will cut out & car will buck & sputter, also makes a grinding or noise then stopped. It's almost caused accidents with my children in the car!. Rpm revs up really high but the speed doesn?t change. At a red light my car began acting funny when the light turned green the car was hesitant to go it was having trouble shifting and accelerating the check engine light never came on. This vehicle power train transmission is faulty and very dangerous. Highway or street driving, in traffic, presenting a dangerous driving hazard. Current mileage @144,000.

10 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

I bought this car from a houston Honda dealership in may of 2017, I late September 2017, early October 2017, I took my car into the Honda dealership because my traction control, abs, & anti-skid lights came on. My radio cut in & out, my headlights would cut off and on/dim while driving, causing the gears in my car to shift. I was told to take it to Ford. I took it to Ford, they diagnosed it, I needed a new tcm which is the computer system inside of the car. The warranty covered it, & I got a new one. After that, I was told I needed a new battery, so I got one, put it in, the car ran good for a month or so. The tcm slipped again, & I was back to square one. November 2017 is then the transmission problems really began; interior dashboard lights began to flicker, & my engine light came on, shortly after exiting the highway, my car stopped accelerating. My foot was pressed down on the gas pedal, but the car wouldn't speed up, all you could hear was the engine running. I had to pull over, turn off, and turn my car back on, to continue driving. After numerous trips to Ford, two new batteries, & two new alternators, I am still having the same problems. It has been about a year having this car, & they are still unable to properly diagnose, & fix the problem. In a year span, I have been car-less for about 4 weeks (collectively), have taken multiple uber rides, to and from the dealership(s), and no progress has been made on my 2013 Ford Fiesta!.

13 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

Went to start my vehicle and it did not turn on at all. There is just a clicking noise, so the starter is good, however the battery was dead. I jumped started the car and was able to drive. My information screen said, "transmission malfunction please service now". The vehicle would run at 4,000 rpms before shifting when usually it's supposed and did shift at 3,500 rpms. As I would brake and be under 5mph the vehicle would lurch forward and I would have to slam my brakes in order to make a complete stop and avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. I took it back home and haven't drove it since. Today I tried to unlock my car with my wireless key fob and the doors wouldn't unlock. My vehicle completely lost all power. On the Ford website for my specific vehicle, it shows I have field service actions. Fsa title: transmission clutch shudder / transmission input shaft seal warranty extension. 150,000/ 10 year warranty. Fsa title: transmission control module extended warranty coverage. I have learned the transmission control module can end up having a short and your car can shutter when it shifts and it can lose all power. This is very dangerous and should be addressed by Ford and the national highway traffic safety administration, before someone loses their life.

14 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2016

While driving on the highway the power train/engine malfunction warning light (wrench shaped) warning light came on and remained on until I parked and turned off the car. At the end of the work day I started the car and the warning light was not on. I took the car to a Ford service center and was told wires had melted together and needed to be replaced. The reason I was given by the service center is:" test drive - check engine light on, no symptoms detected. Ids test pcm koeo-pass. Cont - p2138 (app sensor correlation error), koer-pass, per TSB 13-11-15, bypass circuits le136, le137, and re137 at connector c210, pins 1, 8, and 9 respectively, switch app sensor connector pins 1 and 2. ".

Front suspension control arm replaced, sixth event (12sep2015) 6th trans shudder. . . 3rd clutch installed, seventh event (5jan2016) transmission wouldn't shift. . . Transmission control module replaced. All the other individuals who have filed complaints (concerning this transmission), all the issues I've detailed above (for a 3 year old, normally operated car), and nothing more is being done here? was nothing learned from the gm debacle?? this cars design is flawed and holds a potentially deadly defect that Ford just quietly throws parts at and everyone's ok! thank you!!.

Multiple issue's with my Ford Fiesta (2013) transmission. Have taken it to the Ford dealer to get the tcm re-programmed about 3 times and had it replaced twice. Taken it back for the shuttering issue. Car would stall after moving forward from a complete stop. Have had the clutches replaced in it. Took it back again on July 5th 2019 for an issue with it slamming into reverse. Was told it was ready about a week later on July 11th. After paying $60, the service guy tells me it will not go into drive after looking into the issue. I keep calling and keep getting told that they are waiting for a tool to come in to try and get into drive. Today is July 24th 2019 and still no car.

22 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

The transmission continues to shudder and shake especially in lower gears. Its causing a unsafe driving experience. I have owned my Ford Fiesta for years now (bought it off the lot brand new) . Now I have almost 120,000 miles on the vehicle. I have had the clutch "reset" several times but the problem continues. I have also brought it to the dealership two times when Ford - free of charge decided to replace the clutch and components all together. The last replacement which occurred about a year ago was supposed to be a permanent fix . Unfortunately it is not a fix at all . Its sad to say but I have gotten used to the defect in the car at this point. I have been driving it with moments when the car feels like it wont move ! . Almost all the passengers in the car always comment on the noise - clanking of the clutch and always the bucking sound. They usually say a comment like "damn you need a new car" or "its junk man". At this point as I get more miles on the car I bought it with the intent of owning the car for many years to come. However, with the power train components being unsafe it makes it hard. I tried to contact Ford customer service of the issue just the other day and I have an open case number. But they refereed me that they are aware of the situation and has placed a 150k mile warranty on the parts. But my argument is what happens after the 150k miles and it does it to the point where it cant move anymore. Or better yet what if it causes an accident from the poor performance of the power train. Attached is what my Ford owners . Com for my car states about the extended warranty. VIN: 3fadp4bj0dm164397 fsa title: transmission clutch shudder / transmission input shaft seal warranty extension field service action number: 14m01 VIN: 3fadp4bj0dm164397 fsa title: transmission control module extended warranty coverage I just want a fix for this issue.
