Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the transmission failed to shift gears as needed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to family Ford (909 pike st, marietta, OH 45750) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired twice however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Started the car on one hot and humid day and, while waiting for my wife and aunt at a driveway and without touching the gear shifter, I saw the gear display momentarily jumped from park to neutral and then back to park on the display panel. It happened a few times and I thought that was odd. The car had already undergone three transmission overhauls before the extended warranty ended so I was familiar with the transmission problems that plagued the car, from grinding gears to shuddering and slow shifting in low speed or at an incline, all I had experienced before. But the slipping gear was new. I didn't think much about it at first and drove off when my wife and aunt got on. At the second stop sign, the gear slipped moment after I accelerated following the stop. There was no warning at all no abnormal sound, no warning message, no engine light on or blinking. The engine revved up and there was no more power to the wheels. Only then did I notice the gear display showed the car was in neutral, but the gear shifter was still in drive. Fortunately, there were no other cars around us. I immediately tried moving the gear shifter but it was stuck in drive while the gear was in neutral. I stopped the car and tried again, to no avail. I then turned off the car and was able to move the shifter into park. I turned the car back on and was able to move the shifter into drive, and the gear cooperated. I turned around and got back to home safely. I had coped with all of the earlier transmission problems with this car, the trouble of going to the dealership repeatedly, and even adjusted my driving habit with the unique temperament of this car. However, with the gear slipping from drive without any forewarning, I did not feel safe to drive this car anymore. We thought about what would have happened if the gear had slipped while we were driving on the freeway.
2013 Ford Fiesta - clutch package replaced twice - 20,000miles and again at about 60,000 miles. "transmission failure - service now" message appeared several days after second repair/replacement while driving car on a city side road; going about 35 mph; three people in car; signal went off and on several times, but was able to drive it; took it to a Ford dealer who said there was corrosion and a replacement connector was ordered -"we'll call when it comes in. . . ". Several days later in a different location, same message appeared, but stayed on; driving about 35mph on residential area of city; then engine raced but did not shift gears; car shuttered; but did not seem to get power; coasted to side of road and called for help. Car towed to a different dealer.
When at a stopped position and I go to take off, the car will shutter and almost want to cut out. It almost does not know what gear it wants to go into. I am worried with this transmission. I never have had a car that shifts like this before.
I initally leased, and then purchased, a 2013 Ford Fiesta. I have been the only driver of the vehicle. I have had a the transmission pieces replaced once and the vehicle is back in the shop for the second time. I don't understand how there can be so many recalls related to the transmission but no recall of the car itself. It lurches forward, will not shift into gear from a complete stop or almost stopped car. I've had many near misses and feel incredibly unsafe driving the vehicle. The car only drove for a few thousand miles before the problems crept back up, possibly even worse than before.
Since I have had the car, it shutters and jerks while driving at any speed. The car flips out of gear into another gear while driving. It's unsafe, and it's a huge problem.
Our Ford Fiesta was bought new in 2013 and ran great until 10k miles at which point the automatic transmission would not select a gear when attempting to accelerate from a slow down. Ford dealer took car in and per the service bulletin did a re-flash of trans control. Car ran fine another 1k miles, than issue occurred again , the car not selecting a gear and causing a hazard because we were unable to get out of the way of oncoming traffic while making a left turn. Dealership at that point replaced clutch pack because the say it had fluid in it, also another service bulletin. Now another 2k miles and the car did it again during a snow storm causing us to be unable to get out of the way of a plow which narrowly missed hitting are car. Ford has now had the car another half week and said there is nothing they can find wrong so there is nothing to do. This is very unsafe car and more needs to be done about this major hazard. Hopefully no one loses there life because this issue is not taken more seriously by Ford motor CO.
Had trouble shifting gears from a stop position. Presently it has trouble shifting not only in low gears but all the way up to 50mls pr hr. When slowing down it jerks and hesitates. In oct 2014 took it back to repair and was told needed new clutch due to internal oil seal leak contamination . Nine months later the manufacturer has still neglected to repair it, I have been told due to backorder of parts. It has only 20,000k on it.
