I my 2013 dorf Flex after stopping at a store and when I turned the vehicle on the steering wheel jerked my wheels straight. Then a error came up saying power steering assist reduced. I turned the vehicle off and started it back up a few minutes later and the problem when away. I am concerned that there is an issue with this and Ford is not addressing it based on google searches and other peoples experiences. There have been multiple reports saying that they almost got into an accident while going down the road and this had happened. We do not feel safe driving this vehicle in its current condition. I reached out to Ford and they say this vehicle based on the VIN number does not have a current recall on it.
Steering locked up lower control arm snapped at the ball joint where it's connected to cv axel. Sent my car into the rails and nearly. Killed me and my passenger.
Electronic steering going in and out while driving. Dealer checked for codes no codes other models around the same year were recalled for the same issue. For some reason this one was not included but I have the same problems.

While driving, just as I turned my steering wheel; it got very stiff to turn. If I was not able to turn, I easily could have drove into someone's house, pedestrians or hit other vehicles both parked and driving on the road. Especially if I were going very much faster and didn't have as much strength as I do. A week before this happened, I got a quick flash of a message twice that read "advancetrack needs service". But after that ine trip a week ago, it never popped back up and still hasn't. Other than that, no warning lights or codes xan be found. I made it home (less than a half mile away). After having it checked by 2 different mechanics, both said it was the electric steering and told me to check the recalls for my 2013 Ford Flex sel. I found that my particular VIN did not have the 2 recalls that affected numerous Ford vehicles with electric steering, including the same year, make and model of my Ford Flex. The recall is for the power steering. I've also seen numerous other posts on Fordflex. Net where this has affected many Ford Flex vehicles from 2009 to 2018 with electric steering. The other issue I had is a known recall for other Ford Flex vehicles, but not my VIN, just like the previous. I was driving on the highway when my dash starts beeping and flashing at me wiyh an overheating issue. I had to do my best to get off the highway. Thankfully I was stopped when this happened and not far from the turn I needed to get me and my car to safety. Turned out to be the internal water pump. It cost me around $2,000. 00 to get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was shuddering. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front ball joints, the front control arms and the front struts were replaced. However, the failure persisted. The contact stated while driving to the dealer, the steering wheel locked inadvertently, would not turn to the right and would only turn to the left, almost causing a crash. The contact turned off the vehicle and restarted it. The contact was able to continue driving. However, the failure persisted that same day. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion and the electronic box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). A case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
The power steering assist stopped working while I was driving. It caused me to get into an accident. If other cars were around me I could have killed someone. I was driving just fine and then “power steering assist fault” showed up on my cluster and the steering wheel locked up. It now won’t work. This came without warning.
Power steering completely went out as we were driving jerking the wheel out of our hands , and almost causing an accident. An indicator on the dashboard says “power steering assist failure” . Shortly after that the traction control light/abs light came on as well. There were no warnings lamps, messages, or symptoms before this occurred and the power steering has been out ever since. This seems to be a Ford Flex recall problem and somehow Ford doesnt want to cover the cost to repair/fix it because my VIN is not included in the recall.
Ever since I purchased this vehicle, the power steering would stop working, warning lights: power train and another one would appear after it happens. I would shut my vehicle off and restart it, which would clear the issue and I would have no problems. This has happened several times, sometimes 2-3 times a week. However, two weeks ago, the power steering stopped altogether working and will not clear, even with restarting the vehicle.

On 10/17/21 I was driving near my home and during a turn, the steering locked up and the dash read "power steering assist failure". I pulled over, called a tow truck. When they got there, they started it and the steering was working fine. They said to check the power steering fluid. I drove it home, and found it does not have power steering fluid. Ford told me it is not under any recall. It is now operating just fine. Not sure what happened.

Sudden loss of electronic steering assist without warning numerous times on my vehicle. Nearly caused me to get into an accident the other day. Contacting dealer this week. Ford needs to fix this problem.
I was driving down I-285 (atlanta) with my two daughters in the car and both the “service power steering” and “service advancetrac” lights came on. About 10-15 min into the drive, it became really hard to turn my steering wheel. We were still about 30 min from our house so I had no choice but to drive very slowly until we could get somewhere safe. While trying to turn off the interstate, my steering wheel completely locked up on me!!! now my car is at my mother’s house because I couldn’t drive any further in fear of an accident. My mechanic put this car on a computer and no codes showed up. From my understanding there was a recall for this particular issue. The dealer I purchased the car from stated they were not aware of this issue and the car showed no signs that the power steering was about to go out.
While taking a sharp right turn onto a freeway onramp from a stop at an intersection, the vehicle made a "ding" notification sound from the dashboard and powerfully flung my steering wheel against the way I was steering. If there was an adjacent lane where I was driving, the vehicle absolutely would have veered into the oncoming lane. I was able to overpower the steering wheel and force the vehicle to the shoulder, where I noticed "power steering fault" displayed on the dash. I powered off the car, waited a few seconds, and powered it back on, and it worked after that.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering fault message displayed on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer walnut creek Ford located at 1800 n main st, walnut creek, CA 94596 who diagnosed that the power steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 92,349.
While driving, warning notice came on saying steering assist fault, that very moment the steering locked on me and was unable to turn.
I was making a right turn on a residential street and all of a sudden couldn't steer my steering wheel. My dash lit up like a christmas tree and gave me a power steering assist fault message. I pulled over and tried to restart the car and immediately got the power steering assist fault message again. It was scary and very dangerous. I now have no power steering and apparently my vehicle does not fall under the recall. It is my understanding that there are thousands having this issue. If Ford really cared about our safety they would at least meet us halfway with the cost of repairs. I'm looking at over $2000 out of pocket. This is frustrating and painful for me as I have rheumatoid arthritis and it causes stress on my joints to drive it as is. I am now terrified every time I get in my car to drive.
Electronic power steering assist stoped working and warnining message on dash display. Fracture of rear toe link recall#20v072 have not been repaired as of 8/30/2020.
While driving at low speed (< 20 mph), within 20 seconds of beginning a trip, the car gave a warning dialog (see attached photo) and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. It took all of my strength to keep it on the road. I pulled over to the side of the road safely. After shutting down the car and restarting it, the problem was temporarily resolved. The next time I drove the car, the problem recurred, and since then has recurred every time I try to drive it.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. The contact stated while making a right turn, the steering wheel malfunctioned and momentarily ceased and could not be turned. Moments later the steering wheel would turn however, the steering wheel would shake and vibrate abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the entire suspension system, but the failure persisted. The dealer later diagnosed that the steering gear was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). Power steering went out in reverse. Turned vehicle off and restarted power steering came back. Went to Ford garage software and steering had to be replaced. Car has 82k miles. Ford would not cover this under the recall.
The steering went out one week ago. Checked all the recalls it matches the description of problem and meets all the timelines but was somehow like the rest not included in the recall. Dealer is presenting me with charges in excess of $2000 to repair. I have tried to resolve the issue with Ford to no avail. No one can do anything. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and I have to pick the vehicle up tomorrow. The steering is nearly completely gone.
I was backing out of my driveway and the power steering assist fault came up and I couldn't steer my car. It won't go away and I'm not able to drive my car safely with my family.

This has been happening since January and 3x on 3/3/2020. While driving down a circular garage from work the vehucle shut off and power steering stopped almost heading me into the concrete barrier. It has been twice on side road when it shut off and steering was disabled and all 3x no warnings. Now for the 5th time as I put car in rwcerse the power steering shuts off with no warning and I become disabled. Have to wait and restart car. Its very dangerous and see complaints all over Fords blog and Flex forums. . Very scary to allow my daughters to drive. . Please have a recall or assist financially. Their telling over $2,800. . Thats crazy. .

While driving my 2013 Ford Flex the power steering disappeared and I almost lost control of the vehicle. I pulled over and turned it off, when I started it back up the power steering returned to normal. I stopped at my destination but when I returned to leave I found that the power steering was not responding. I drove it home with great difficulty. This repeated several times over the next two weeks, functioning at the start of the day but failing after the vehicle was turned off. The power steering finally gave out altogether. I checked and found that there was a recall that was announced on June 02 of 2015 for this exact issue covering Ford Flexes from 2010 to 2013. I scheduled an appointment with my Ford dealership to get the issue resolved. I was told that my vehicle was manufactured a few months after the recall date, which covered vehicles manufactured up until Feb 28th of 2012. I can't understand one, how does a recall cover the years 2010 to 2013 but has an end date for eligibility of 2012?, the recall was announced on June 02 of 2015 and my vehicle suffered the exact same issue of those that the recall extend to. As well as what was done to remedy the part failure after the June 02, 2012 date that my vehicle (suffering the same malfunction/failure and manufactured just outside of the end date of the recall) was not included in the recall? I have found that the issue is within the sealed steering assist assembly itself witch suffers heat damage due to the placement of other components. Heat shielding within the unit has been reported to break down, resulting in the interior components to fail due to excessive heat exposure.
