Transmission clutch fails and car jerks and become unresponsive .
Whenever weather is above 75 degrees, the check engine light goes on and the vehicle starts going up and down in rpm, usually going down to 500 rpm while stationary. At random times, it would go up to 4000 rpm with just a short acceleration while in an intersection. During one hot day last Saturday (8/27/19), it was above 85 degrees and the car would not even reverse when I was at a dead end of berkeley. I had to wait for my car to cool down before it eventually started reversing again. I already had my clutch replaced 2 years ago due to another recall on the car, but now this clutch has failed me. I went to the Ford dealership and after their repair specialist inspected my car (which will cost me $200), they confirmed the clutch is no longer working. My 2012 Ford Focus is out of its 7 year extended warranty, so they quoted me $3,300 to have this clutch replaced. I refused to pay this and they told me to call the Ford customer relationship center at 1-800-392-3673. They said I can complain, but they likely will not help me. This is the 4th time I have been at this dealership for repairs and the other 3 times was due to a recall issue. I spoke with the customer relationship center and explained my situation. Unfortunately, they cannot repair this clutch for free since its no longer under warranty. What the customer rep (April) suggested to do was to keep my receipts for the repair and hopefully Ford might come with a recall where they can reimburse me for the repairs. I wanted to escalate my complaint, but they said they will just tell me the same response.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph and transmission failure light illuminated. The contact immediately pulled over and restarted the vehicle but the light came back on. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was taken to the dealer dean sellers Ford 2600 w maple rd, troy, mi 48084 (888) 452-1292 and they found out it was the clutches that had failed and informed the contact that he was not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. The manufacturer confirmed the same thing stating they could not help him at this time. The failure mileage was 101,149. Tf.
Sync module failed. Costing $1000 to fix. A smog part failure resulted in Ford wanting 2000 to repair and replace the fuel tank. The clutch fails to engage on low speed turns creating a loss of control. Ford fixed with the recall. Steering fault detected making it near impossible to steer the car. Recall is available on other models but not Focus. Another 1000 to fix it. Ford is unsafe!.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While at a stop light, the vehicle jerked violently and the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle had been repaired five times per the same recall for the clutch pack assembly failure. The vehicle was not repaired this time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The recall information was not provided. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
We had to have the front suspension repaired 3 times in the first 5,000 miles. There was a major knocking sound and you could feel movement in the steering wheel when the car was transistioning over a speed bump or into a driveway. Right after this was fixed, after the third replacement of the same parts, the transmission had to be repaired 4 times, 3 times the clutch pack failed which happened regularly every 10,000-12,500 miles. The car would jerk violently during start of moving and then the clutch would slip while driving at speed. The clutch pack was replaced 3 times. The last time the transmission just failed to shift into any gear, forward or reverse, this happened while the car was moving in a parking lot. We are afraid this will happen driving on the street, through an intersection, getting on or driving on a freeway. The dealer looked at it, they said the onboard computer showed a failure code, they reset the code and then stated there was no porblem. When asked why the part that the failure code said was bad was not replaced the dealer stated that there was no problem and just drive the car. If it fails again have the car towed in and they will check again.
I purchased my 2012 Ford Focus on sept. 25, 2012. I have had problems with the transmission and clutch ever since purchasing. On 7/16/13 Ford performed a computer adjustment on the transmission. On 7/9/14 Ford installed a new clutch in the car. On 9/17/15 they reprogrammed the transmission. Ford claims that the problems with shuttering on acceleration are normal operations for the car. They have also extended the warranty on the transmission because "on your vehicle, it may be possible for the powershift 6-speed automatic transmission to exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration. This condition may be caused by fluid contamination of the clutch due to leaking transmission seals. " they extended the warranty on the car to a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty for the transmission only. On 12-11-15 I was driving my car on very busy four lane road. I came to a stop at a red light, while attempting to turn left. When I tried to accelerate from the red light my car would not shift from first to second gear. The car would only accelerate to around 15 mph, the speed on the road was 45 mph. Once I hit 15 mph the engine would just rev but the car would not accelerate or shift gears. I had to stop in the middle of the left lane and turn off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, it would shift from first to second gear with heavy shuddering. Upon taking my car to Ford for the 4th time they said that the clutch failed and that they needed a new clutch. This will be the second new clutch that that they have put on the car. The car currently has about 22,000 miles. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and Ford is unable to find an appropriate fix for the problem. They are aware of the problems and have extended the warranty on the car but are not able to correct this issue. This car should be recalled due to the transmission issues.
Purchased new and within 40,000 miles the clutch has failed two times and the transmission module has failed once and has had to be reprogrammed twice. The suspension makes loud noises on the front end whenever you hit any bump. I feel unsafe driving this car because it can lose the ability to accelerate at any time without warning.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. When driving, turning, and switching lanes, the vehicle hesitated and sputtered. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power train control module and clutch failed. The dealer (allan vigil Ford, 6790 mt zion blvd, morrow, GA 30260, (678) 364-3673) stated that they would have to charge to run a diagnostic test to identify the cause of the failure. Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a manufacturers recall for the clutch and transmission which did not provide a permanent remedy to repair the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than 5 times before notification of the manufacturers recalls and they had not been able to replicate the failure and provide a repair solution after several repairs. The contact continued to experience the clutch failing to change over in third gear and the vehicle had a strong hesitation. The vehicle also randomly stalled and the contact had to make several attempts to get the vehicle to restart. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and transmission warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch shudder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred numerous times. The contact also mentioned that several other parts were replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,220.
I purchased the car used with 25,000 miles, shortly after the car began shuddering very badly and did not accelerate correctly. The problem progressed to a loud metal grinding noise, the clutch was deemed to be bad and replaced. Six months after the clutch failed again and was replaced and now a year later the clutch needs to be replaced again, making it the fourth clutch for a car with under 70,000 miles. Ford has extended the warranty so it is covered however the part is on back order for 4-6 weeks. Ford does not offer a replacement vehicle during this time. I do not feel safe driving this car with the transmission not working properly. This car also had the steering and suspension repaired within the first year of ownership.
We purchased this car on 08/19/2011 and the next day while taking off from a stop sign the car would shudder, I do not have this issue when the transmission is cold but in stop and go driving and normal city driving after it has warmed up. Also when you depress the accelerator from a stop the vehicle will go for a second then have a nice sized flat spot so even the people in the car will go forward as if the brakes were coming on. I took the vehicle to the dealer and the tech drove it and verified that it did have this issue. They contacted Ford and Ford stated that it was normal and told them to do nothing. I complained to Ford customer service and all the lady had to say was that it is normal. Also Ford had stated that these are isolated incidents, if they are indeed isolated then they cannot be considered normal but rather a defect that Ford does not want to address. I was told that the clutches require a break-in but Ford does not state any break-in procedure that pertains just to the clutches other then the normal 1000 mile break-in for the vehicle in general. I and others I have communicated with all have these issues after the 1000 mile break-in and feel it is both a safety issue and a mechanical defect from Ford that would cost to much to repair so they claim it is normal.
