2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2020

2012 Ford Focus nothing but trouble with transmission! has been repaired 3 times since we bought this for our daughter to attend college. Extremely dangerous vehicle it loses power suddendly shudders and shakes can barely get pulled over to keep from being involved in an accident. Last repair by Ford dealer was 8-15-2018. Transmission is slipping again!. I could say more but do not feel that anyone is listening to how dangerous this vehicle really is as numerous complaints have been made. Really feel Ford got away with a major screwup and have not been held accountable by anyone! going to have to trade this in and it should never be sold again but they will sell it to some poor soul just las it was sold to me! 1st repair11-2012 by previous owner 2nd repair 7-16-2014 3rd repair8-25-17 4th repair 8-15-2018.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

I had an extended warranty on my 2012 Ford Focus. Transmission. It is still way under mileage only 50,000 on my car. Just recently had a problem with my car and it has to do to defaults in the cluth. My my car is at the Ford dealership in williamsburg right now waiting on Ford headquarters to decide if they are going to cover the expenses or not. My warranty expired 2 months before this happened. But still way under mileage on warranty. I took it to Ford dealership in williamsburg va they said the cost to me would be 1,600. 00. They said they were contacting the main headquarters to Ford about this matter to see if they will pay for this since they knew there was a problem in these cars when they sold them. Waiting on response from headquarters at Ford to see 8f they are going to cover the cost . I feel they should. This happened while driving it the gears slipping. That's why I took it to the shop. It's at williamsburg Ford dealership as we seek waiting on Ford to get back to them and if they are going to pay for the clutch to be replay ed in my 2012 Ford Focus.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

The Ford Focus transmission/clutch system is dangerous to both the operator and other drivers on the road. All Ford Focus/fiestas with the dps6 transmission systems should be immediately recalled and removed from united states' roadways. The owners of these vehicles should be reimbursed the cost they paid for the vehicles at the expense of Ford motor company. The inconsistencies in acceleration and maintaining gear are endangering lives. The longer these models stay on the road, the more likely they are to fail. Since Ford is no longer replacing/repairing these issues, people are being forced to drive defective cars that can fail without any notice. Please do the right thing and recall these vehicles immediately. My vehicle has had the clutch system replaced 5 times in only 62,000 miles. The transmission is now slipping again but Ford refuses to repair it further. I am now driving a vehicle that is considered dangerous.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

My car has, since the time I bought it, stuttered randomly when accelerating. This has caused issues where merging into traffic from a stop can be unreliable, causing me to fail to enter traffic at the expected speed and causing increased risk for a collision. I think it might be a transmission, since it feels like a gear is slipping. Eventually, through the stuttering, I will gain enough speed to where it stops being an issue. (possibly when entering the next gear).

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

The car jutters upon acceleration with the changing of gears. When attempting to pass cars, the transmission slips and takes a second to get into gear and begin accelerating. Problems gaining speed to merge with highway traffic. Getting much worse by the day.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

I purchased my 2012 Ford Focus 2 years ago from a used Ford dealership. The following day I noticed my transmission slipping and that it would slip into neutral. I called the dealership 12 hours later and they informed me this was normal and not to worry about it. I continually struggle to accelerate in traffic and I have caught myself slipping backwards when idle on a hill.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

The transmission feels like it slipping. And it rakes time to change gears sometime the car blinks hill start assistance unavailable and it keeps reseating the mpg millage and trip timer. This morning when I locked my car it was like a door was open but I checked all the doors and they was locked.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

My car has 75,000 miles on it. I'm 6 months pregnant, driving on the interstate, when the vehicle's transmission starts to slip. During the slip, a "transmission malfunction. Service now" light comes on and my car proceeds to lock up and stall at interstate speeds. Three different cars almost crashed into my own before I could get safely to the shoulder. Why is this happening to a car less than 10 years old, at 75,000 miles?.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

Transmission slips, shudders and jerks while mechanical clanking noise comes from the car. Four times, I can recall, was almost in a major accidents and countless times of vehicle sputtering trying to accelerate to merge into traffic. Clutch has been changed at least three times but problem returns. Manufacturer and dealerships lie to me. I feel stuck in a lemon that is truely embarrassing to drive. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle! someday, something bad will more than likely happen. Please do something. Money can not replace lives. Safety first!.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

I can't drive this vechicle on the road because the transmission overheats and slips. I would be at a stop and it's in drive but does not go anywhere. My vehicle rollas back and almost cause a accident. Due to a faulty powershift dual clutch transmission. There is a class action law suit on Ford but as a consumer I have to wait ten business days to even settle a claim. My life is in danger because I feel like a vechicle will hit me soon in the middle of a intersection. I need help from someone please. Im begging you Ford has made no attempts to help me and I still owe 5,000 to pay it off. Which this vechicle is far to low valued. If anyone can help me with this issue ASAP.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2017

When going up hill the transmission slips and motor revs up and down. At very low speed when pulling into uphill driveway the car lurches forward. When stopped on a small hill you can slowly let pressure of brake the car will drift backwards like it is in neutral. When first starting out of a parking position the car will speed up with out any change in throttle position.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2017

Issue with automatic transmission knocking and slipping at low speeds. I was made aware that this is a known issue, acknowledged by Ford, but was told by dealership, my issue was caused by oil from real seal leaking onto trans. Mechanic said transmission knock may have caused oil leak but it is not covered.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

When I start the car initially I can't turn the wheel of the car. I have to tug on it to get it to turn eventually. I'm afraid that I'll be driving in the power steering will go out. Also have been having troubles with the transmission slipping. They say my car has too many miles to qualify for the clutch recall that Ford has put out. I don't see what this has to do with a malfunction saying I've had troubles with it since I bought this car. Both of these issues are safety issues. I have no money to replace this stuff. So I don't understand why Ford won't work with people on this there needs to be a recall on the steering as I seen many others complaining about it. And they need to suck it up and take the expenditure of replacing all of these crutches that they have a recall on regardless of mileage. Sometimes my seatbelt comes loose after I clicked it. I have to latch it while trying to drive. I'm tired of this car. I'll never buy from Ford again. I've been having problems with this car since I bought it. And have informed the dealership that we bought it from and they clean there is nothing wrong with it period after taking it too but it's going to cost me $3,000.

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

My 2012 Ford Focus selectshift transmission still has problems. Ford extended the warranty for select Ford Focuses and fiesta with no fix. They extended warranties for 10 years on these transmissions but replace with faulty parts. My car has had transmission work done to it and each time I get it back the transmission light comes on again. It's a huge known problem that Ford isn't willing to find a solution to. When driving it the transmission refused to find a gear and kept slipping making me go 30 mph maximum when the speed limit was 55mph through a very busy town. Now it hunts for gears and shot up the rpm's then shot down and doesn't feel like it has near the power after these transmission problems.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

The transmission is slipping and hesitating, Ford said its a design problem. I have had several near accidents because of this transmission. Ford can't fix this. I would like Ford to buy back this car before I get into a bad accident.

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Ford has a transmission with dry clutches. This transmission has stranded many people in very unsafe situations. The transmission just stops working while driving. Many complaints have people left in the traffic lanes and the cars simply will not move. Fortunately for me I was not on the freeway, but on the feeder to the freeway, and the car just stopped moving. The engine rpm's dropped like it was running out of gas. Then the engine rpms picked up but it wouldn't move. Tried putting it in reverse and still wouldn't move. The tow truck driver had towed this very same car to the dealer 8 months ago. The problem is that the transmission is of such poor quality that the vehicles are in the shop on a regular basis, costing us huge amounts of money to fix. I bought the car 7 months ago with an extended warranty. The car has shuttered and the transmission has slipped pretty much from the time I got the car. Reading many complaints about the car, some from brand new owners in 2012. Really need to research this transmission and engine for that matter.

18 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

I bought my 2012 Ford Focus new. Ford has replaced my transmission/seals/ clutches four times thus far. I have had to schedule three appts with paul miller Ford in lexington ky since transmission #4. The first & second inspection passed all tests, 'it's within parameters' was the only response the technician would tell me. My third appt, my transmission failed & now need yet another transmission. Ford says my vehicle 'safe to drive'. Will take 2-3 months for parts. Focus continues shift erratic, rpm needle in 6-7 range, transmission slips, jerks, hestitates, boggs down, delayed acceleration, shudders, surges forward when stopping, decreased fuel mileage, and transmission is leaking. The cover for under carriage is covered/caked with transmission oil. How can this vehicle be safe to drive when clearly testing indicates the transmission has failed.

19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

Transmission shutters and slips and the power steering just shuts down at times, this is very dangerous. My wife was merging onto the interstate and the steering shuts down the engine still running. She has to shut the car off and start it again to get the power steering to work. This has happened around 10 times.

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2016

The car just starts making a grinding noise and the gears slip out of place.

21 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Transmission shutters and slips when hot or when going up steep hills. Transmission will not downshift when pressing harder on gas pedal.

22 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Transmission clutch slips and car shutters and jerks. It is dangerous because the engine revs fast and then lurches forward. Parts are on back order due to so many cars having this problem been waiting 2 months!.

23 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

1. Power steering goes out at any given time, whether its initial crank or driving at any speeds. It appears to occur more so in the warmer months of the year. 2. Transmission slips, chatters, rollbacks while in gear, hesitation, delayed response. I have taken vehicle to dealership multiple times, they said they cant get the power steering to re-occur so there was nothing wrong with car! they said the transmission acts within their specs, as this is does come and go but appears 90-95% of the time. However I did receive an extended warranty out of no where for the transmission in which I heard they do nothing but clean oil off the clutch plate which will resolve nothing. My wife is 100lbs soaking wet and cannot control the vehicle in turns when the steering goes out. She has already blown out a tire on a curb due to not being able to correct the path of the vehicle in a turn.

24 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

When accelerating from a stopped position, the transmission slips gears and the car lurches forward or stalls and then lurches. I have almost rear ended several cars on many occasions. The car also lurches backwards when in reverse. I have taken the vehicle in twice for service. It is in for service as I am submitting this report. The first time, I was told there were recalls completed on the vehicle. I never received any paperwork from the dealership as to what was actually "replaced/recalled" on my vehicle. It seemed to drive smoother for a few months and then the same problems started again. I'm waiting to hear back from the dealership as to what they have found wrong this time.

25 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

4 transmission failures in 25k miles still have problems with transmission slipping, jumping, lurching hesitates grinding and shutters, when you press on the gas from a stop it sometimes jerks you into movement or if you press the gas a bit harder it will shutter, the more we drive the worst it gest until it cools down.

26 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Shudder vibration and acceleration lag is present when shifting from first to second gear in automatic transmission 2012 Ford Focus. Shudders only at low speeds, usually while accelerating or reversing from a full stop, and only when the engine is warmed up. Feels as though the transmission is slipping during shift, almost feels as if a stall is imminent especially when traveling up steep hills.

27 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

Transmission was slipping engine revving very high upon pulling away car felt it was stalling or just losing power, under normal operations of the car I would have clearly had enough time to pull out of intersection but because it wasn't going forward as it should it felt unsafe to drive. Do not feel this transmission operates in a safe way.

28 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission slipped in and out of gear with extreme hesitation. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent for diagnosis. An unknown trouble code was detected and the mechanic recommended the vehicle be taken to a dealer. Additionally, the motor mounts fractured. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

29 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

I purchased the Ford Focus on 05/18/2011. I returned the car to jim snead Ford, waynesboro, va on 07/06/2011 as the transmission was slipping, the car was bucking, hesitating on acceleration at full stops then jumping into intersections. The mechanic agreed the Focus was shifting hard, attempted to fix it, could not after following the Ford hotline. It still shifted harder than expected. The mechanic decided to drive another new Focus off the lot and wrote on my service invoice that the new car off the lot drove as rough as my car. The Focus continued to be a dangerous vehicle jumping, bucking, hestitating then jumping out into traffic and I continued to take it back to mr. Snead who stated it was my driving, not the Focus. I took that Focus in almost every other month w/ the same complaints about the transmission for 2 years 2 months only to hear it was my driving, not the car. Finally, the car was scaring me to death and I feared for my life and my two children that also drove the Focus. I finally took it back to jim snead on 08/09/2013 after owning the new car for 2y & 2mo to trade it in for something safer. I paid $24,652. 25 for that brand new Focus and jim snead gave me a trade in value of $961. 00 for a much safer car he said. I bought a brand new 2014 fiesta (yes, another nightmare from hell). I thought mr. Snead was a friend, a reputable business man. I bought 2 used Focuses from him since the early 2000s & they were fine. Mr. Snead knew my husband was ill in 2003 & I became a widow w/ two kids to raise. Mr. Snead and Ford knew about those dangerous vehicles and furthermore, in 814 days of ownership I lost $685. 55 per month in depreciation and payments! I was a teacher for heaven's sake w/ his wife, mrs. Snead. He knew I did not have money to burn. Next up--the Focus I bought after trading in the Focus.

30 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I own a 2012 Ford Focus which has had been to fairway Ford in placentia for the transmission recalls. The transmission slips, drops and lunges forward even after numerous updated programs. I have also had the fuel pump replaced and fuel tank as both were defective.

31 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I purchased my 2012 Ford Focus new from am authorized Ford dealer. A few days after purchase I noticed that the transmission seemed to slip in an out of gear when accelerating. The problem is worse on hills. Further the vehicle will roll backward when at a low idle on a hill with the engine running. I took the vehicle into the dealer where I purchased it and he said it was fine. But today I was alarmed at how much worse it seems to be getting. I did a quick search on google and discovered a lot of 2012 Focus owners are having the same problem and dealers are giving the same explanation or doing little to fix the problem.

32 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission slipped and made a grinding noise. The contact also stated that acceleration power was lost. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000. The VIN was not available.

33 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2012

2012 Ford Focus. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmission problems. The consumer stated a problem with the transmission occurred, a day after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle started making a grinding noise at 3rd and 5th gears. The dealer calibrated the transmission one month later. Two weeks later, there was a chatter coming from the transmission. The consumer stated the problem is still ongoing.

34 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

Transmission slips / loss of power. Sometimes from a dead stop and other times at highway speeds and loss of power when the accelerator is floored and needed for passing at speed. This has been an issue since the car was purchased new and its not going back to the dealer for the 3rd time on 6/30/2014 to have the transmission looks at again. Its had two prior transmission repairs and its now failing the same way again. If a transmission is unable to provide power reliably when needed its going to get someone killed as a result.

35 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2012

About 1 month after purchase I began to experience transmission sluggishness, slow acceleration due to gear slipping, and sudden acceleration. Not always, but more often than not. I chalked it up to the nature of the dtc as the dealer insisted that is how the trans works. After several more months I received a recall notice for trans problems. Had trans reprogrammed. After about 3 months, all problems returned along with a grinding sound when in lower gears. Took to dealer for regular 7500 mile check and spoke at length with technician. He has same car and stated that my clutch plates would need to be replaced along with some other hardware. Unfortunately, trans tech was booked for the following week and a half. Made appt at other dealer and after they checked the car, stated that all I needed was to have the trans reprogrammed, going so far as to tell me that the new programming would "learn" my driving style and adjust after a two week period. Car seemed ok for a few months, and then all problems returned again. I took my car in for regular esp service this evening and asked for the trans to be looked at again. Tech told me that they were booked for over 2 weeks for trans work, and 80% of that work is on the Focus and fiesta models. Tech also shared that as of 3/1/14, Ford instructed all dealers to stop replacing the clutch plates and simply reprogram the trans. Tech stated that this is due to the high cost of replacing the clutch plates; anywhere from $1800 - $2100. He also stated that internally, Ford corporate has acknowledged that this trans is a failure. In order to get new clutch plates, tech stated that I needed to have trans reprogrammed and then drive for 2 weeks. Then return to dealer for analysis. Tech stated that Ford will only replace clutch plate if slipping occurs at over 2100 rpm. Fearful for safety as trans problems can occur at any time!.
