6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2020

I went to a Ford dealership for a possible transmission issue, uncomfortable gear shifts and acceleration lag, that I have with my 2012 Ford Focus in 9/13/2019. They told me that my car had a field service action (technically is not a recall) that had expired couple months ago, and they could not do anything. They provided me some papers that explains operation characteristics of their faulty transmission. In six months to this date, my issue with the transmission got worse. After 30 minutes of driving, my entire car starts shaking in first and second gears, and becomes unsafe to drive because it sometimes takes dangerously long time to speed up. Today I went to a local mechanic shop and contacted Ford customer service. My mechanic estimates the costs of repair to be $1500, and Ford customer service only tells me that their field service action (14m01) has expired and would not take the responsibility for their faulty transmission anymore.

The contact's son managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to asheville Ford Lincoln (611 brevard rd, asheville, nc 28806, (828) 276-1075) where it was diagnosed that the power control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

My vehicle vibrates, shimmies, and shakes on take off and on turns. Dangerous to drive especially crossing a highway. I have had it accessed at my Ford dealership and they said to replace the clutch and transmission input seals. There is a program out 14m01 that extends the warranty and field service alerts for this vehicle. Ford customer service said the vehicle is covered. When the dealership entered it in the system, the repair was denied by Ford. I know there is a law suit against Ford for this same problem. I need help to get my vehicle repaired by Ford. The customer service said that the dealership service manager should submit for warranty. I don't understand why there are denying this repair. I hope nothing else goes wrong with the leaking transmission seals while I am driving the vehicle because Ford refuses the repair. Driving somewhere where there is a stop light on every corner will give you whiplash. Crossing highways is very dangerous. You need to make sure nothing is coming for a long way away. This has happened since I bought it new in 2012. At first I thought it was because it was new. When I took it to the Ford dealership, I was told there was no fix. Now there is a fix. I took it this last time to the dealership 9/23/2019. There aare 41000 miles on the vehicle. Please help!.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Have taken my Focus four times to Ford. Twice for the shuddering the car was doing to tucker Ford in brunswick me. And now twice to rowe Ford in auburn, me. Where a new clutch was put in and now the module that controls the clutch needs to be replaced and Ford will not cover. They want 950. 00 to do the work and I may get my money back in the settlement. The car has been there for a week and a half. I have taken pictures of the code from the car and all repair records since I filed with the settlement group. Ford is making things even more difficult to deal with any clutch issues. They even admit the issues and do nothing at the dealership. They are waiting for the customer top get made and just pay for the repair so that they may not have to cover it in the end. The code that came up is transmission malfunction service now and no hill asst. . I was driving on a flat road.

Advised me to stop driving the vehicle and have it towed to their facility.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

We began experiencing transmission "slipping" about 2 years ago, around 120,000 miles. The car shudders at lower speeds and when you go to accelerate from a standstill, it shakes like the car is going in and out of neutral. We looked up the issue and it appears to be a big problem for Fords everywhere but we were told we were out of warranty. The dealer offered to do a transmission fluid flush to see if that would help, but unfortunately it didn't. Our next step would need to be a new transmission. We recently took the car back in to the dealer because we had seen a memo from Ford that they were fixing cars like ours if they showed up to a dealer between 7/12-7/19. We took the car in on 7/19. We called Ford customer care (as directed by the dealer) to open a case # so the dealer could perform the special repair and still get paid. They denied the dealers request to fix the car and I had to call Ford customer care back to ask about the memo that said they were fixing cars that showed up between 7/12-7/19. I told them it had been dropped off and the repair order opened on 7/19 to which they said I was out of warranty. I continued to ask about the memo the dealer had shown us, but instead they continued to simply say I was out of warranty. Now, after several calls to the Ford customer care team, they say they don't have an answer yet but the supervisor will call me back in 2-3 business days. The car is still at the dealer and I haven't had a car for almost a week, as they have not been instructed to fix it yet by Ford. The dealer has been very nice and helpful throughout the whole process, but Ford has been incredibly frustrating and won't follow through on the original promise they showed the dealer in the memo. Every time I call they act like they never sent that memo.

The car vibrated vigorously when accelerates from a complete stop, followed by sudden accelerations when switching gears. The car had only 28k miles on it when this happened.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

My car shutters and shakes when I'm accelerating. Going from a dead stop is the worst. I've taken my car in and there is no resolution as of today. Ford knows of all of these issues and knew of them before my car was manufactured. My extended warranty runs out next month and will be on the hook for any future damages to my car.

20 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was test driven. The mechanic confirmed that the vehicle vibrated and shuddered while accelerating. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign numbers: 13v523000 (power train) and 19v515000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

26 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

When my car starts driving, from 0 mpg to 25 mpg my car shakes. It feels like my car is slipping, and having a rough jerking motion. I also experienced my car roll backward when I was transitioning from a red light to a green light. I would have to just hope my car would accelerate in time or else it would roll and hit the car behind .

27 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

In early 2017 I started experiencing issues with the electronic power steering. I would turn my car on some days and it would say power steering malfunction and there was no power steering making it impossible to turn the wheel and drive. Turning it off and back on (sometimes several times) would get rid of the error code and I would be able to drive it like normal. A month ago at 129,000 miles the power steering went out again, but this time it is out for good. No matter how many times I restart the car, the error code will not go away. The cost to repair is outrageous for a car that is not worth much due to the horrible reviews and unending problems that everyone is experiencing. On top of that, I have been dealing with the car shuddering constantly when I drive it. My transmission went completely out a year ago and the Ford dealership replaced it under warranty. I was driving and the car wouldn't shift. I pulled over and I could not get it into reverse or any gear. A few months after it was fixed the shuddering began again while I was driving the car (same symptoms as last time before it completely went out), but Ford says that the car is no longer under the mileage it needs for the recall replacement, so if it goes out again and I know it will in a matter of time, that will be another $2,500 to fix. With the numerous complaints on just the power steering issue and the consistency between reports, I do not understand why there has not been a recall. It is a safety issue.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2018

The transmission malfunction sevice now warning came on. Car shudders and lurchs when on incline, slowing at intersection, difficulty maintaining 60 mph on expressway. Clutch had been recalled and replaced several times: the first at 3,543 miles. The vehicle had shuddered, lurched forward I off/on for four years when stopping, slowing down and at highway speeds.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Vehicle shudders when taking off but once initial take off is complete there is no shudder anymore.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

At 73,000 miles error code in dash read steering assist malfunction service needed. It is very difficult to steer my car. At 76,000 miles error code read engine too hot, stop safely and wait 8 minutes. Car shudders and high revs at low speeds and very loud engine noise. I hope that Ford recalls these issues soon!!!.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

My 2012 Ford Focus has already had a transmission failure within the first 42,000 miles. Specifically, at 41,968. I was driving in traffic when the car began shuddering violently and an error message appeared. The car could not accelerate properly and it was revving on its own. Luckily, I was able to pull over amidst heavy traffic before the car shut itself off. Had I been on the highway, I would have been in a serious accident. I brought it back to the dealer to have them tell me that it was simply a sensor that needed to be replaced, and they sent me on my way. Since then, the car still shudders when accelerating from a stop, as well as producing grinding noises as you turn. This is indicative of a continuing safety hazard. After doing extensive research online, I have come to the same conclusion as hundreds of other Focus owners - this car is unsafe to drive. My car is currently at 56000 miles, which worries me because in addition to the transmission problems, many other owners have reported extremely serious steering problems, some of which have proven to be fatal. Please take action and demand Ford fix these problems. I don't want to die in a car accident that could have been prevented by something as simple as a recall. Thank you for what you do and please use this as a sign to look into this problem.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

The car would get shaky at times when driving, and then yesterday, it wouldn't go into reverse. Later, I tried to start it, and it wouldn't start. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, then the car started and went into reverse. Later, it went into reverse, and then it wouldn't go into drive. It has an automatic transmission. I took it in and was told it needs a whole new transmission. Apparently this is a common problem with these vehicles. The vehicle was not in motion when this happened.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

I've had multiple transmission/clutch issues and it continues no matter what temporary fix Ford gives. I've had 2 clutches put in and multiple trips to the dealership for shaking and the car jerking and also the car wont shift sometimes and accelerates out of nowhere. Today, and the reason I'm complaining, my transmission started acting up and then my "transmission malfunction" light came on and and the car jerked and wouldnt shift and caused me to almost lose control. This transmission issue needs to be resolved. I inly have one picture but have all the service records.

34 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

My vehicle has been in for service 3 times this year alone for the same transmission issue. Every time I go in they adjust something or replace a small part, but never completely fix the problem. It shudders, hesitates, bucks, and kind of stalls because the transmission is trying to shift or making grinding noises. It can do it speeding up or slowing down or in the middle of the drive, it is unpredictable. I have had the transmission also over heat and tell me to pull over on large busy roads and have a loss of power when not stopping fast enough. It is scary when my car is shuddering going no where and I am in the middle of traffic or going through an intersection with my 2 kids in the car. Fords response is to continue driving the car, some times they say it is within specs and sometimes they say that I have to drive it while I wait for parts to come in, which are usually back ordered. The service adviser told me herself that she wouldn't drive the car but I am expected to drive it because they can not give me a loaner and they have no parts to fix my car, and even when they do "fix it" the same problem starts again within a couple months. I think they are just waiting and riding it out until the warranty runs out on it. Now to top it off there is also a recall on the door latches where the doors can just open and they also do not have those parts. It is an unsafe car and a horrible experience that I am going through.

35 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2016

Transmission - transmission on late model Ford Focus is dangerous. Car shakes, shutters and transmission will not go in gear at time when in traffic. Clear safety hazard that vehicle is dangerous when operating and concerning when car has movement issues in intersections and at stop lights. Car has been to service center over a dozen times for transmission reprogramming over past 4 years, car has received three clutches and now other major components are failing within the transmission. Car recently broke down while driving and started missing gears, lurching and shaking on a road at 50 mph. Had to pull over. Was able to travel 1 mile to get home but car was difficult to stop and jerked uncontrollably. Car would not go into reverse and had to push out of road upon arriving home.
