108 problems related to vehicle shudder have been reported for the 2012 Ford Focus. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2012 Ford Focus based on all problems reported for the 2012 Focus.
On a wet pavement in the rain while attempting to make a right turn into a shopping center the power steering locked up and would not turn or respond. The vehicle continued into an island curb breaking off the front left tire causing over $4,300. 00 in damage. The problem with the power steering locking up during wet weather was confirmed by the repair shop. Ford motor company (customer service) was contacted but would not send a representative to look at the vehicle. This issue is ongoing as everyone who drives the vehicle has experienced the steering locking up during wet conditions. The vehicle also has a shuddering issue where the vehilcle bucks when moving forward.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle shuddered and rolled backwards even when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to automax Ford (located at 3301 e central texas expsy, killeen, TX) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). The dealer informed the contact that the transmission parts that were used to remedy the failure were the same defective parts. The contact had the transmission repaired twice and a new transmission installed once. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
We bought my wifes Focus with about 22k miles on it in June 2013. Since then we've brought it in 4 times to have the transmission "shutter" fixed. As of today the problem still exists but it isn't bad enough for them to fix it again. It mostly shutters from 1st to 2nd gear reaching upwards of 2800 rpm. Just shy of their 3000 rpm requirement. The car will shake and sometimes make a clunk and we're told to keep driving it.
Car always shudders when accelerating from stationary zero mph. This car has a sel option and is driven only in automatic transmission. I have never used the sel option! the shudder causes sloppy acceleration delays from zero starts, lights and stop signs, just like a manual shift being driven by a driver unskilled clutch/shift coordination. The same thing occurs when braking for a light, then at low speed, the light turns green and you change to accelerating instead of completely becoming stationary.
Since we purchased the car new in 2012 it has not operated properly. I understand it is a hybrid transmission and feels different from other automatic transmissions. That is not the problem. The problem is that the car shudders and jerks forward when you step on the accelerator. We have taken the car in for this problem and have been told there is no problem. Yet there have been about three recall or transmission updates. The last recall was serviced in January 2016. Several times I have had to pull off the road and recently the car's engine light came on had to have the vehicle towed to valley isle Ford because the car would not drive. There response after resetting the check engine light was that the car drove fine. I went to pick the car up and I barely made it home. The car again needs to towed back to the dealer. This model needs to be recalled and have the transmission replaced as it will never be able to be fixed.
On 2/25/16, after a severe rainstorm, I went to turn on my car and tried to turn on the wiper blades, but they would not come on. The next morning they did turn on. That afternoon, when starting my car, the wiper blades turned on without the control being activated. The blades continued to run even when the car was turned off and no keys were in the ignition. The only way to stop the blades was to disconnect the fuse from the box. This has happened twice when I was not aware of this and my car battery was dead when I went to start the car. I cannot use the wiper blades at this time as they will not turn off. According to Ford motor CO. , this is not covered under the recall on the wiper blades since my car is out of warranty. I have had my car in the dealership to repair the defective clutch and it is still not repaired due to Ford motor CO not sending out the necessary parts in a timely manner. My car is shuddering and jerking when accelerating and changing gears on all types of roads. I have had this issue since I bought the car brand new. The cruise control on my car works intermittently. When the battery is disconnected and then reconnected, the cruise will work for a few days. Ford technicians could not diagnose the problem. This has been a problem for as long as I have had the car.
The transmission on my vehicle has failed multiple times while driving the vehicle. While driving at idle speeds, the car shakes. The transmission failed while I was turning in an intersection and stalled. It then lurched forward and continued to function in a lurching and jerky manner. Just yesterday, I could not slow the car while traveling at 50 mph, despite pressing the brakes, due to the erratic behavior of the transmission. This lurching, jerking, erratic behavior is extremely dangerous and could potentially be deadly. I have had the transmission worked on a total of three times. Each time, the dealership told me that the problem would be fixed. This is highly irresponsible for Ford to ignore this issue and continue to put customers in harms way. This is an inappropriate way to handle a life-threatening issue.
Ongoing issue ¿ on acceleration car shudders, bogs down, jumps forward, also hear a grinding/crunching sound. I have had my car in to the dealer numerous times and I am always told this is normal. I have written to Ford and they refuse to correct the problem. In regard to the question below ¿ when did this happen? ¿ it has been happening since I bought the car in 2012 but since I was not able to enter that into the box I entered the last date I brought it in to the dealer for this issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle vibrated and jerked forward when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the issue recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 30,000. The VIN was not available.
My car has shuddered since I bought it . It also did the roll back issues as well. It has been into the Ford dealership 3 times now for this issue and it is still not resolved. The car has only 60,000 miles on it. It slips gears, struggles to get up hills, struggles to get going at lights, struggles in traffic when ideling, and shudders. I called Ford to complain at first they seemed interested. They would follow up with me after the latest reprogramming. Well the reprogramming was completed and it still does the same things as before. Ford's response well give it a few days. I asked when they would follow up since I just told you it is not fixed what is the next step. Their response call us when it happens again and closed my case. They need to fix the problem and take responsibility for the problem. I am waiting for my transmission to completely fail since it struggles to shift into gears. This is a major safety issue and the car is a lemon.
In 2014 I was driving from grand forks, nd to bemidji, mn on the interstate going around 60 when my car shuddered and slowed down to close to 15. I was able to get onto the shoulder after being stranded in the middle of nowhere I was able to call for help. My car was then taken the the Ford dealership in bemidji and I had someone pick me up and was able to bring me back to grand forks. (Ford had refused to give a rental) around 2 weeks after I got a call stating that my transmission was fixed. I got a ride to bemidji, picked it up and headed home. Shortly after I got it back to grand forks I was driving around a residential area in grand forks when I stopped at a 4 way stop waiting for my turn, went to go forward and my car started moving in reverse. I had to slam on my break so I didn't hit the car behind me then I brought it to the Ford dealership in town. They "fixed" the issues and gave it back to me two more times, each time I couldn't make it out of the dealership without it shuddering and refusing to shift. Finally they "fixed" it at the end of the summer in 2014. This summer I was noticing the car was shuddering when I was in residential areas and it was stop and go, I brought it back down the the dealership I bought it from and they assured me it was fine but they would replace the parts to be sure. This weekend I went home to the cities and as I was driving back it broke again. I was in the passing lane going around 70 when my car shuddered, went down to 55, shuddered again and went down to 10. I was forced to swerve quickly into the left shoulder since I had a semi-truck behind me going 70 that almost hit me and had to cross the interstate to an off ramp to be safe. They have "fixed" it four times and it still breaks down. I've almost gotten into 4 accidents, missed days from work and I'm too scared to drive my vehicle at this point.
The vehicle has a grinding noise when shifting gears. It will also shudder and shake when driving. Vehicle has had all updates done by the dealer and Ford motor company and the issue still persists. Ford said they are unable to fix the issue with the dual clutch.
The car shudders/hesitate when going from first o second gear in the aromatic transmission/6 speed transmission. I have had it checked by a Ford dealership and they informed me the clutch/transmission is going. This is the second transmission for this care and now I am looking at a third one to be put in. Ford has made a transmission that is faulty in m eyes.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer shults Ford of harmarville located at 1300 gull lab rd, pittsburgh, PA 15238, and repaired under the NHTSA campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). The contact indicated that the failure persisted and the vehicle was serviced on several additional occasions for the power train. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.
The automatic transmission in the Ford Focus has a clutch that slips without warning. The car shudders and won't accelerate. I was almost hit when making a turn and the car shuddered and stopped in the middle of the turn. Another driver had to take emergency evasive action to avoid hitting me. I took my car to the dealership and Ford service says there is definitely a problem but they cannot fix it because they don't have parts and don't know when they will get the parts. Ford acknowledges the problem is common and has extended the warranty to 150k miles but they cannot fix the problem so thousands of Ford Focus owners are driving unsafe cars. There has already been multiple accidents and injuries attributed to this problem but yet Ford still does nothing to correct the unsafe condition. This agency should force Ford to issue a safety recall before there are fatalities. It is just a matter of time before people lose their lives because of this defect in a Ford vechile has is affecting thousands of owners. Extending the waranty is nice but ineffective so a mandatroy safety recall is going to be necessary to make Ford take action. The slipping is occurring more and more often yet Ford is unable to fix the problem so I am forced to drive an unsafe car. Time is of the essence to prevent more accidents, injuries, and possible fatalities.
I just recently purchased this car on Saturday February 7, used from a carmax dealership. I was told there were no recalls on the car and that everything was fine. Test driving I noticed a little hesitation but not much. On Sunday as I was sitting with my foot on the brake at a traffic light I felt a shudder vibration and the car slid backwards. To my surprise after researching online I noticed that this car is notorious for that. On Wednesday February 11, I took the car back to carmax and was told it had to go to the dealership in order for it to be diagnosed. Wait?? I just bought this car!!! I am waiting for a call back from carmax because I want my money back. Too much and I just purchased it.
Shuddering while accelerating. Grinding noise while the automatic transmission is shifting gears. Vehicle has been into dealer multiple times for shuddering and shifting issues. The last time, at 49k miles, it was over an 8 week wait to get the car into the dealer - the transmission guys were backed up months at all surrounding dealers. Ford's repair has been to reprogram the transmission. We purchased the car new and have been the only owners. The car did not shudder and grind when first purchased. And it performs better immediately after the reprogramming. But after a few thousand miles of travel, shuddering and grinding return. Once it starts shuddering, I can duplicate this behavior within 2 miles of a Ford dealership. There is a roundabout at livernois and hamlin roads that has a yield for incoming traffic. If the roundabout is clear, proceed into the roundabout between 5 and 10 mph and accelerate slowly while navigating the roundabout - and you get shuddering. Personnel in the dealerships state that "drivers just don't know how to drive the car". I am a 50+ year old driver with experience in both manual and automatic transmissions. No tickets no accidents. This vehicle was purchased with the intent of passing to my children when they start driving. The inability to use slow acceleration without shuddering makes it too dangerous for inexperienced drivers. Especially in michigan where winter conditions often require slow acceleration to maintain control of the vehicle. Please act upon consumers behalf and force Ford to provide a permanent resolution. Either a fix that permanently stops the shuddering or replacement of the defective powertrain components.
Driving during very heavy morning rush hour traffic (at approx 25 mph). Car began to shudder/hesitate very bad and would not accelerate - I was about to get onto the interstate. The check engine light came on and I was able to limp the car the remaining few miles to the office. The check engine light stayed on in the afternoon on the drive home. Was able to plug in my own obd computer and received the code p0902 (clutch actuator control circuit low). Next day, started car and the check engine light is off and car drove fine. Have appointment for 10/15 to take car to dealership but fear that because the check engine light is no longer on they will be unable to "recreate the issue" and will not fix it. I have already had this car in multiple times for transmission reset, but this occurrence was by far the worst. Had I been trying to pull out into traffic, there would have been an accident because the car stopped accelerating. I have printed the code description along with the sync vehicle health report I ran proving that the check engine light was on. Hopefully, this (along with the code information I pulled myself) will be enough for the dealer to take this seriously and fix the problem.
When starting from a complete stop, the car jerks, shutters and the gears grind & despite having this vehicle in for service over 12 documented times, nothing has ever been done. Just as recently as 8/4/15 the transmission was serviced again, replacing the clutch, and it drove great for just under 5 days and then I simply stopped at a stop sign and when I went to pull out the vehicle jerked and bucked, nearly striking another vehicle and then for the 50 mile drive home, the vehicle would grind through the lower gears, making driving very difficult. The vehicle is now back at the dealership with no resolution in sight, Ford should just recall this vehicle before someone is seriously injured and why are we all to suffer because Ford is no longer the company they used to be, I will never own another Ford vehicle and I am trying to get out from under this vehicle, but will do so at a loss.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would shake, jerk and rev up but failed to accelerate. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the clutch b needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 60,100. Ne.
Had an issue with the vehicle suddenly shaking, shuddering violently, and being unable to accelerate beyond 40-35 mph. I would attempt to accelerate and it would operate as though in neutral. The vehicle would then kick in and rev up to 6-7000 rpm and still not accelerate. Then it would finally feel as though it had downshifted but would not go above 40 mph. I took it in to the dealership to be looked at. They applied the latest computer updates and checked fluids. They told me the vehicle had a shifting fork code (dct), and that it would need to be replaced- yet the vehicle worked fine after the computer was updated. If there was a shifting fork issue, then it wouldn't magically disappear for a period of time after a computer update and come right back. The vehicle operated fine for several hours with no issues. Then I felt the transmission 'hitch', and the check engine light again came on. I was literally 2 blocks from the same dealership I took it to earlier that day, so I took it back in. They said the same codes appeared, but that they would attempt the computer update again. The vehicle again seemed to work fine. Then I was driving on a backroad highway due to my fear of the vehicle acting up while on the main highway and having my small children with me. The car again acted up and went from 65 to 35 rapidly and refusing to accelerate and acting as though it was in neutral. The transmission would occasionally catch, but would not go faster than 35 mph in a 65 mph area. This could cause a potentially fatal accident, and I cant help but wonder if there aren't any fatal accidents that can be attributed to this. I see that many others report the same exact issue I have.
Car began to shudder and bog down as I moved forward. Then slipped going into 2nd. When given a good amount of gas the car hesitated and slammed into gear.
In 2012, I purchased a brand new super economy flex fuel 2012 Ford Focus, which I had there was no problem with vehicle after don seeyle Ford replace the axle and wheel bearing. Last spring of 2014, my car started shuddering violently as I reversed the vehicle into driveway at home. In August 2014, I received a notice from Ford motor company that listed problems with the transmission for this vehicle. After receiving this notice, I called seeyle Ford to inquire about the transmission as well as the rear window defroster that has not been working properly either from previous winter. I made an appointment with seeyle Ford to get the transmission repaired, rear window defroster and routine maintenance done. After returning to seeyle Ford, the rushed and thrown the paperwork for routine maintenance to the cashier without informing myself about that no repair was done to the transmission or the rear defroster. However, I noticed that the vehicle was vandalized by punchers holes in the upholstery by the rear window close to the defroster, which I have never punchers holes since purchasing it. Finally, I took the vehicle to galesburg Ford to inquire the same issues, however, I explanations was simply thanks for the business. In March of 2015, received another noticed from Ford motor company about the transmission. I called galesburg Ford about the transmission but nothing happened as usual. Finally on April 6, 2015, I called Ford customer to file a complaint with repair issues with the dealerships. On April 7, 2015, I received a call from the regional manager sally basically said ¿I can take the vehicle somewhere else because Ford will not repair it unless it total breaks down. ¿ ¿or simply the company is going to do nothing about the complaint. ¿ so, I basically received attitude of ¿we will listen but the company doing nothing for you. ¿.
Transmission has been jerky, shaky, jumps into gear. This has happened periodically since I have gotten the car and has gotten progressively worse. Most recently, whenever it shifts around 20 mph there is a terrible grinding noise along with a shudder. Brought my vehicle into hudson Ford in hudson, WI on August 15, 2014. Dealer stated there was a transmission leak and seals were defective. They replaced seals. I asked if there was any damage to the transmission and they said no. On Monday August 18, 2014 I called the dealer back to let them know the grinding noise was still present, not all of the time shifting but it is still occurring. Dealer said to "give it a thousand miles and call back if it still happens because new parts need to lubricate and beak in. " I am not sure how true this is because there are metal parts grinding, not the seals replaced" I find it hard to believe there isn't more wrong with this car with grinding metal noises present. This is a danger to myself and others should the transmission fail on the highway or it jumps into/out of gear and a hit a car. There are so many complaints like mine. Ford needs to provide total transmission replacement or buy these cars back.
During times of frequent stop and go (accelerating and DE-accelerating) the car shudders and acts like it is going to stall. It does not accelerate or DE-accelerate properly sometimes. I did not notice until about 40,000 miles and have had this problem ever since. Some model of Ford Focuses are under recall, however when I went to the dealer they said my car specifically was not being recalled yet it was exhibiting the same issues.
Transmission shifts improperly causing shudder effect. At idle the vehicle shudders as if its going to die out. The shudder happens mostly on highway driving.
2012 Ford Focus. Consumer writes in regards to water leakage on the inside passenger side. The consumer stated two after the vehicle was supposedly fixed, water leaked inside again. The consumer continued to drive the vehicle. Then at 13,000 miles, the vehicle started to shudder and shake when she accelerated. The consumer then traded the vehicle for another a 2014 Ford Focus and she experienced the same shudder problems. The consumer was informed, the automatic transmission, also had a clutch.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle made a loud grinding noise and stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 47,491.
My car shudders very bad taking off from a stop and almost comes to a compleat stop then takes of like you have jearked it into gear its makes a horrible noise in and out of the car and will continue to do this untill you let the car cool down for a long time. Its been repaired once buy Ford and now there telling me theres nothing els they can due for me because its in spec.
I was making a left turn on a blinking yellow arrow. Seeing a coming break in traffic, where it would be safe to execute the turn, I began inching forward. When the car passed, allowing me to safely turn, I pressed the accelerator and the car did not respond. For several seconds, my car sat in the intersection with traffic oncoming, without moving forward. The type of hesitation has happened to me a total of 3 times between April of 2014 and August of 2015. In addition, the car handles roughly in low gear, making grinding noises, stuttering in changing gears between 1st and 2nd, and sometimes shaking the car. The transmission on the car has a recall. I did take the car in in December 2014 for the recall, where it was tested and a new seal was installed. I drove the car for 8 months before experiencing the 3rd hesitation to respond. However, the grinding noises, stuttering, etc. Never did improve. I believe these cars is unsafe not only for the owner-operators, but also other motorists on the road who have no way of anticipating that a car pulling into traffic may intermittently fail to respond to the driver pressing the accelerator.
Prior to this incident I had brought the car into the shop twice with complaints about the transmission shuttering in reverse and slow speeds. On January 18, 2014 when leaving a drug store to return to our hotel the car would not go in reverse, we had to put the car in neutral and push it out of the parking space. Being a Saturday night and 180 miles from home we had no option to bring it in to a local shop. My husband and son were traveling to colorado so they took the hotel shuttle to the airport early Sunday morning and I had a family member follow me in the car the 180 miles back to our local dealership. The dash had no warning lights on at that point of the trip. When driving the car it would shudder at low speeds, but did ok around 60mph. About 1 mile from the dealership the service transmission light came on while stopped at an intersection. When I went to accelerate at the green light it nearly died- the rpms blasted but the car had no power. I barely made it through the intersection and to my next turn. The car lost all power about 1/4 mile from the dealership. I had to push the vehicle onto the shoulder and have it towed to the shop. The seals in the transmission had leaked and toasted the tranny and I had to have the tranny rebuilt. The entire process took almost a month. Started to have similar problems a few weeks ago, brought it back into the dealership and they said the seals are leaking again and it's just a matter of time before my tranny goes but that it will be about 12 weeks for them to get the parts.
After about 30-45 mins of driving the car will begin to shudder going from 1st to 2nd gear. It occurs most noticeably driving from a stop. I have brought my car in numerous times and have been told numerous excuses. At this time it is getting annoying, however it becomes a concern when turning onto roads because it does not produce any power during this time. Its only a matter of time before a accident occurs because of this issue. There needs to be a recall on the transmission on the 2012 Ford Focus. Updated 03/25/lj also, an oil leak was found, the vehicle would shudder in reverse and it felt as though the traction control was engaging.
When lightly accelerating from a state of rest, the car hesitates when the gas pedal pressed, even when a little more pressure is applied. Then it unpredictably "kicks" into gear, forcing me to hit the brakes to accommodate for the sudden jolt. It also slides backward when releasing the brake on hills. None of these issues occurred severely in the first year after purchasing the car new. The symptoms became noticeable around October 2013, and has occurred since, most often in the lowest gears -- slowly backing out from a parking spots, stop & go traffic, etc. I had the car serviced at the dealership under warranty three times, and taken to another Ford dealer for a second opinion. Three days from receiving my car back from the dealership after the third service, the car continued to shudder and hesitate while applying pressure to the gas. Only this time I nearly caused an accident while reversing out of a supermarket parking lot. Usually it shudders when in reverse, but this time the car did not respond at all when in reverse and with light pressure on the gas. After about 3-5 seconds of light, even pressure on the gas pedal to inch the car out of the spot, the vehicle shot backward, nearly sending me through the store wall. Fortunately, no other vehicles or pedestrians were nearby, but this incident makes me afraid that the car is a danger to myself and others.
This is an ongoing problem!!!! my vehicle vibrates when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. It hesitates and does not want to accelerate and it appears to not want to shift gears. Does the same thing at low speeds as well. When pulling of from a stop position sounds like a rattling or something making a cranking noise. Also car stalls at times. Taking off from stop sign car stalls when gas is pressed. My car rolls back when taking off from an incline and a flat surface.
The vehicle will not always shift out of gear when accelerating or decelerating. The vehicle will shudder violently when shift even after the car has been warmed up. This has caused the vehicle to stall when coming to interceptions or when take off not catch into a gear. Currently the transmission has been replaced once and reprogramed 3 times, still experiencing the same issues.
