The contact stated the shift cables continued to break. This happened three times since purchase of vehicle and once prior to purchase. The dealership replaced the cables twice, made adjustments to the cables once, and replaced the transmission. The contact did not know what repairs were made before purchase. The vehicle is still hard to get into gear. This usually happens before it breaks.

2 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/14/2004

Consumer can shift gears without pushing the shift release button. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. On several occasions, the consumer accidentally shifted into neutral when driving and at highway speeds. On another occasion when the vehicle was shifted from neutral to drive without knowledge of having done so until the vehicle suddenly lunged forward.

3 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

When shifting in between gears vehicle suddenly accelerated. Vehicle had to be shut off to stop. The cause of the problem has not been determined.
