The transmission in this vehicle shutters, slips, loses power or loses acceleration when accelerating from a dead stop, or accelerating in speed when shifting gears. This happens from a dead stop, when accelerating in traffic to merge, change lanes or pass a car; pretty much anytime the gas pedal is pressed the car will lurch and/or shudder and/or lose power, resulting in many near misses and almost accidents in the time that we have owned the car. This car was purchased used mid-2015. By November 2015 the first replacement of the clutches was done. In March of 2018, just a few months out of the two-year warranty, the clutches needed replacing again. It was too expensive for us, so we opted to have the software flashed instead. Under the extended parts coverage offered by Ford, the clutches were replaced for a second time in December of 2019. By January 2021 the car needed new clutches for the third time. The dealership contacted Ford to see if they could do anything about it, and Ford refuses because the car and the clutches are slightly out of warranty, the clutches only out by a month, even though this six-year-old car is on its third set of clutches.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving, the vehicle shifts randomly from first to second gear then starts to shudder. The contact mentioned that while his daughter was making a right turn into traffic, the transmission shudders, the driver led off her foot off the accelerator pedal and nearly got hit by other upcoming vehicles with her child in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to chapman Ford, 1255 columbus Ave, marysville, OH 43040, and was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The dealer called Ford manufacturer and was informed that the range was not within the parameter for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.

The car was fully stopped at a red light on a state numbered highway. I put the car into 1st gear (manual transmission) as usual and got the car moving. When shifting from 1st to 2nd the clutch pedal got stuck fully engaged to the floor, not allowing me to put the car in gear and keep moving. I was able to force the clutch to disengage after a few seconds and get the car into 2nd gear. The same issue happened again going from 2nd to 3rd. The clutch was burned in the process of trying to get the car moving up to speed and it took the entire night for the smell to dissipate. I was able to get home after that and took the car to the dealership the following morning. Since the dealer cannot recreate the issue, they will not do anything further than a diagnostic check.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle would stall and shudder as the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to bowditch Ford inc (11291 jefferson Ave, newport news, va 23601) where it was diagnosed with the transmission clutch needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. I bought this vehicle late January of 2020, I was aware of transmission problems with this model but was assured that those problems were taken care of. Bought the vehicle and after my first trip longer than 1 hour I got an engine light and later a transmission overheating light. When driving the car at 55 miles per hour the car will act like I was flooring the gas pedal and will not do anything when I tried to increase the speed. The Ford dealership said it would cover the issues at first but now they are saying is not part of their warranty. The clutch needs to be replaced and the car is stuck in third gear. It will only start on the second try. The car has 53k miles and bought at 50k miles at 9k dollars.

Manual transmission. While in motion, going through gears during acceleration, clutch pushed in, foot off gas, rpms go up anywhere between 500 and 1500 for several seconds before dropping. If you don't clutch in, car continues to pull as though the gas pedal is stuck and the "shift up" light stays on.

Tcm replaced 66,550, clutch pack replaced 68,148, and complete communication failure between the throttle and transmission, tonight at 82,000 miles, I fully opened the throttle pedal down, and transmission failed to give me any acceleration for 3-5 seconds. This almost caused a bad situation tonight. Radiator replaced at 77,600, coolant still drops to the min- line. No reasoning on where the coolant is going.
Driving Ford Focus on highway at roughly 70 mph. Car dash gave error saying transmission malfunction while driving. After error came up while driving, when I hit the gas pedal, nothing happened and I lost all acceleration control of vehicle. I had to coast to side of highway. Turned off car let it sit on highway shoulder. When restarted, the car moved but did not accelerate when I hit the gas. Took car to Ford service center where they said issue was with tcm and clutch which caused the car to go into a neutral state while driving.

A bought a used Ford car from Toyota, the car unknowingly had a recall on it. The car has been seen 10 times, under warranty, the transmission and clutch has gone out, Ford and Toyota have refused to by back the car. Car has been out of service for 31 days as of now. And I have not received a rental, Ford will not open the recall back open. Hendricks won't look at the car they tell me to take it back to Ford. While driving the car the car would not exelorate pass 40-55 miles per hour. The radio, bluetooth ports stopped working. The auto start and stop stopped working. I have contacted Ford company more than 10 times with 6 case numbers. The last time I was driving the car I was in motion on the highway when I could smell a burning oder, then the clutch pedal went out (stuck in the far back position) then the car when into limp mode and would not excel pas 50 miles per hour after pressing the gas the gas petal goes out. The stick to change gears when out and the car was smoking. I then rolled off the nearest exit ramp where the car came to a stop in the middle of the street.
When I press the gas pedal from 1-45 mph the car hesitates to go and then jerks forward. I took it into the Ford dealer who stated it was a bad clutch and they replaced the clutch. A month later the same problem occurred again so I took it back to the dealer who say the transmission was leaking which ruined the clutch and it had to be replaced again. Within 2 months I had to buy 2 clutches and pay to fix the transmission.

The transmission skips, lunges, and does not shift well. It has been in for transmission flash and automatic transmission clutch rebuild at 19,000 miles. Was in for check and trans flash at 29,000 miles week of June 27th 2019. Was in today, July 16 for check because it operated worse after it was looked at three weeks ago. The service manager says clutch has to be rebuilt/replaced again. . . It has about 30,000 miles on it. This is a safety problem as we cannot trust the vehicle to get out of the way or move properly when gas pedal is put down. Ford knew about this problem for years and still sold defective vehicles.
Dps6 transmission is unreliable and vehicle is unsafe to drive due to inconsistent vehicle response when pushing accelerator pedal and Ford cannot correct the recurring problem. The problems have occurred many times since we took delivery of the new vehicle in Feb, 2014. Vehicle has been to dealership 9 times for shuttering/shaking, no response when pushing accelerator pedal, surging forward several seconds after pushing accelerator pedal following no response, hesitation when pushing accelerator pedal. Ford has replaced the clutch 4 times in the past 5 years and the problems randomly persist. The vehicle is at dealership now for most recent clutch replacement. Ford has updated the tcm/pcm at least 4 times and the same problems still recur. After the updates to the tcm/pcm and/or clutch replacements we've continually been told that the road tests are within Ford specifications but the problems continue. In the most recent occurrence on 7/1/19, my daughter was turning left onto a busy road with cars traveling at 50 mph; her Focus started into the oncoming traffic lane then hesitated while the accelerator pedal was pressed and the vehicle would not respond. The car coming toward her had to slam on his brakes to avoid t-bone collision. Her Focus finally responded and she was able to complete the turn, but she came close to being seriously injured or killed. Upon hearing this situation, I immediately called the Ford dealership to bring the car in. In June, 2018, at a stop light the Focus would not respond when pressing the accelerator pedal, then after several seconds it lunged forward and almost hit the car in front of her. I bought this car new for my daughter. After reading the 7/12/19 detroit free press article, it's clear this is a flawed design. My daughter will never drive this vehicle again. It's a ticking bomb. It needs to be recalled.
Bought the 2012 Ford Focus used in 2016. It shuddered when entering the roadway after stopping and also when going uphill. Dealer said the car had to get used to me as a driver. After many complaints, they did something non-mechanical to adjust it. Reprogramming, maybe. Once it was out of its limited warranty, they said it needed a new clutch kit, which was $1500. The shuddering stopped. Last month, shortly after leaving my driveway, the car jerked forward and the check engine light came on. I pulled into a neighbor's driveway to turn around and go back home and it wouldn't go in reverse. Had it towed to the dealer. The tcm was replaced. This month, I pulled into my driveway, put the car in park, went to take the keys out of the ignition and saw a message that said the car was not in park. Ok. The engine was off, I could remove the keys from the ignition. The gear shift lever was in park. The dashboard display said the car was in drive. I took my foot off the brake and the car started drifting down the driveway. I put the parking brake on. The car would not start. Had it towed to the dealer. They said the shift linkage had come loose from socket. This is the worst car I've ever owned. There is no warning that a problem is about to occur. The car just ceases to function. I'm very lucky that I was in my driveway, or close to home when the car died both times. I'm afraid to drive this car and have 2 years left to pay it off.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving 30 mph, the transmission began to shudder and the vehicle decelerated. The vehicle lost power and hesitated. The contact attempted to depress the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle would not move forward. The vehicle was driven to Ford of san leandro (1111 marina blvd, san leandro, CA 94577) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new transmission clutch and module. The dealer would not repair the vehicle because it was eight days past the warranty requirement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 82,774.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While accelerating from a stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated once the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to magic city Ford Lincoln (located at 809 williamson rd ne, roanoke, va 24016, (540) 345-0911) where it was diagnosed that there was internal clutch failure in the transmission. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired, which was still pending. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Car stops accelerating at roughly 25 mph despite continuous pressure on gas pedal. Only to get the car moving again was to bring the car to a complete stop and then press gas pedal again only to have the problem repeat. The clutch system on this care and the related software was replaced 6 weeks ago. This is a absolute safety hazard. Please help as this is a widely known issue and the manufacturer is unwilling to respond to the matter. The repair cost for new clutch is $1,000 + each time.

In addition, the failure occurred on two different occasions. The vehicle was taken several times to the same dealer where the transmission and clutch were replaced twice. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the dual clutch transmission had failed on several occasions. While stopped on an incline, the vehicle would roll backwards upon release of the brake pedal. The contact also stated that the vehicle shuddered and downshift while accelerating from first to second gear, without warning. Additionally, while the cruise control was engaged, the transmission downshifted from third to first gear while going downhill, without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to schicker Ford of st. Louis (3300 s kingshighway blvd, st. Louis, mo 63139) and the mechanic twice performed an electronic update and had the transmission clutch replaced however, the failure recurred soon after the repair. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v515000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The powershift transmission is defective, as I have had it replaced multiple times in a car with only 50,000 miles. I had my clutch pack replaced for slipping and shuddering twice within a two month/2,000 mile period. Initially the problems went away, but they came back and are worse now. There have been 2 incidences where I was driving and the check engine light came on and the car's screen said to service the transmission; the car would not shift gears so I could not accelerate. Both times I would turn the car off and after sitting for a while (overnight), it would turn back on everything would be normal. The transmission shudder happens when I accelerate from a stop or from a near stop, like in stop and go traffic; the car shakes and acceleration is very uneven. When the car is first started in cold weather, the rpms jump up rapidly when I am accelerating from a stop to the point where the tires slip and spin, regardless of how much I press the gas pedal. Excluding the issue above, the shudder seems to occur more frequently the longer the car is being driven, and the warmer the weather is. When I am driving and I push the gas pedal to accelerate more (like going into a roundabout or merging onto the highway) the rpms rise up very high but the car just coasts and does not accelerate for several seconds. Sometimes when I am at a stop, I will push the gas pedal and the rpms will rise, but the car will not accelerate for a few seconds. The issues are sporactic, as the car will be fine for a few days and then it will be almost undriveable for a few days.
2013 Ford Focus, was bought new from dealership and has had clutch issues from beginning. The car stutters on acceleration, shifts hard, and occasionally there is a delay when the gas pedal is pressed. A recall was performed on this car and the clutch was replaced, but still had same issue. This car has been seen 8 times for this issue, and has never been resolved. The clutch that was replaced during the recall has failed the performance test, but the dealership will not replace due to expired warranty. Recently another recall was issued on this vehicle due to a stuck cannister purge valve. This causes the engine to stall and the fuel meter to read incorrectly. This caused me to run out of gas on the highway when my gas meter reported I still had half a tank of fuel. On 11/29/18, the dealership performed the recall and believing my fuel meter to now be accurate, I ran out of gas again at a quarter tank full. My check engine light is back on and it is again throwing a code for the purge valve. This car has several safety issues which Ford dealer has been unable and unwilling to remedy.
When driving, in between shifts the rpms will rise while the gas pedal is released and the clutch pedal is engaged. Creating a "stuck" gas pedal creating the drivers to either shift and risk more tear to their clutch, or wait to release the clutch till the engine rpms finally drop for a smooth shift. The Ford dealerships say this is normal, but engine rpms should not increase while the clutch is engaged and the gas pedal is released. This happens at all times, inching forward to pull into a garage, highway speeds or city speeds. I have a 2017 Focus st st2 with 11,700 miles.
Clutch pedal stuck to the floor intermittently (2x in 1600 miles).
