7 Transmission Failure problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

I have a 2016 Ford Focus. 3 months after purchase I took it to service for shaking on accelerating and deaccelerating. I was told broken sway bar links. After they were replaced I brought it in again. I was told it's normal for the powershift transmission and I was not used to it. In March 2019 my transmission dropped into neutral and a transmission failure message was shown. I took my car to service. They replaced sensor and I went to get it. It failed in 5 feet. Took it back and they replaced a second sensor. It failed before I arrived home. This has gone back and forth 8 times. Because my staying home with covid I only put 700 miles on my car between April and November. They have had my car since then except one day. I got 10 minutes from home that night and returned it the next day. They are staying that it's unrelated to the known issues with powershift. But it's never been fixed. They've replaced all 3 sensors twice. And now there's water in my transmission fluid. Once before I made it home and again the day I returned it. They told me that was because I had leaves under my windshield wiper blades that diverted water from the windshield into the transmission. Also I saw in an article that it was stated by a NHTSA spokesperson that Ford was fixing these issues and extended the warranty. I've been told I have the wrong transmission. But I have a dsp6 powershift. The service center refers me to the customer care. Customer cares states that they only take information and can't help or give information. They directed me to the lawsuit hotline. They don't handle warranty. Ford gives you no way to speak to anyone that can explain why my car is not extended. They refuse to look for the source of the water and have replaced sensors repeatedly although that hasn't worked yet. My warranty ends soon and they said if they can't fix it by then I'm responsible for cost.

Transmission/clutches started slipping or jerking when the car had less than 7000 miles. The slipping is worse when starting out on a hill, or when making turns. It has also slipped when pulling out into traffic. The transmission also fails to hold the car stationary when stopped facing uphill. When starting from a stop light or sign on a hill, the car will slip back. It was reported to the dealership, but they have not been able to fix it for over two months due to "parts being on backorder".

The car started to jerk, jump forward and then stopped moving. The engine was racing but the transmission did not work. 19 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

On my way to work I was taking a left turn onto the highway. In doing so, the car cut power causing the cars behind me to almost hit the back of the car at about 40 miles and hour. This is a very unsafe vehicle, I am waiting for the day someone isn't paying attention when the transmission fails to perform in a usual manor and I, or someone else in the car, is seriously injured.

20 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

My 2012 Ford Focus with dual clutch, dps-6 transmission has on multiple occasions unclutched the transmission while attempting to accelerate from a stop to make a left turn across a busy road. The unexpected lack of acceleration due to the transmission failing to transmit power to the wheels has nearly caused my wife and I to be hit by oncoming traffic despite starting the turn with adequate room to cross traffic and accelerate. Thankfully, adequate space and reaction by oncoming drivers has prevented a wreck. Ford has, on multiple occasions, flashed the computer and replaced parts and did extend the warranty on the transmission slightly. However, the transmission is slightly now out of warranty and continues to have the same problems with failing to accelerate and then violently slamming into gear. Ford has refused to cover further repair of the defective transmission despite clear evidence of the continued defectiveness of the transmission.

21 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

I have had multiple incidents with my 2014 Ford Focus related to the faulty transmission. Besides rough shifting and lots of shuddering over the years, my car has completely stalled on me while in motion, driving on the highway 2 different times. I lost the ability to accelerate while going more than 65 miles per hour, and I had to coast through high-speed traffic to get to the shoulder (both times). The first time this happened was July 29th, 2017 in fort lauderdale, florida. The 2nd time was June 6th, 2019 on the sawgrass expressway in broward county, florida. Both times were very scary and put myself and others at risk for a serious and dangerous accident. Early on, the Ford dealership told me that the rough transmission is normal and would get better if I improved my driving habits. More recently I have been told that the transmission would fail again but that the warranty has been extended.

24 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/19/2019

Transmission has had serveral computer updates and clutch replacements for shuddering when accelerating. While towing behind a motor home with transmission in tow mode the transmission somehow went from neutral to drive and caused the transmission to fail to the extent of total rebuild at the dealer. After the rebuild it still shudders and hesitates when accelerating in drive.

25 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Since ive purchased my Ford Focus back in 2013 I have taken the car back to Ford dealership on numerous occasions in relation to the faulty transmission and electrical issues. On my 5th attempt my transmission was replaced. This was around the end of 2017 to 2018. On may 2nd 2019 I was driving to work and as soon as I turned on the car the windsheild wipers started to go off and for some reason I could not turn them off. Once I arrived onto my work campus I turned the cornee to park my car. . . When all of a sudden my car flashed an error message on my dash stating the following, " transmission failure repair now". I calmly parked the car and within seconds of turning off the car I see smoke and then flames from the bottom of my engine hood. I quickly exited the car abd the flames got bigger and bigger. The fire department was called and the had to smash the back window due to the flames that had over taken the front of the car. Unfortunetly my car is not a total loss. I was at the end of my contract agreement with Ford and inly having to pay 6400 left on my loan. Ive called their customer service to complain and see what can be done and was told I would get a letter in 2 weeks by their legal council. This has caused me to delay my entry into nursing school since now I have to work to handle the car the new car I just had to buy. I need transportation for work and Ford took that from me. Ive now seeked out a lawyer to see what can be done. With all the times I asked for help and I ended up seeing my car go up in smoke. Im just so thankful I was able to get out iof the car in time. But believe me im still shaken and this has caused me to never buy Ford again.

26 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

While driving down the highway, the check engine light came on unexpectedly. Shortly thereafter, the car went into limp mode and I lost all power to the wheels. When I tried to accelerate, the engine would rev but would not accelerate. I was forced to pull over on the highway as a result of this transmission failure.

27 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

While driving at city speed in elkin, nc, the transmission fault light came on and the vehicle stopped. Here I am stranded in traffic. Not the safest position to be in. I shut the vehicle down and restarted it in the hopes that this might reboot the fault and solve the problem or at least let me get to a dealership. The transmission fault light was still active but I was able to move only in first gear. The transmission would not shift. I was able to get to the Ford dealership in elkin, nc where they were able to diagnose the problem. The transmission module of this wonderful dps6 transmission had failed. They had a transmission module in stock so a repair was made. I dread every time I have to get into this vehicle. I worry if I am going to get to my destination safely. I worry if I am going to get home safely. Ford is making every delay possible to slow down the legal process.

29 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Bought this car - had less than 2 years and the transmission failed twice. The transmission issues were covered under a recall. Steering assist fault/malfunction was happening. You'd shut the car off and turn it back on and it would fix itself. The steering assist fault come one while my daughter was driving and she could no longer steer the vehicle. Thank god she wasn't involved in a car accident and was close to our house. This seems to be a well-known defect in the Ford cars and Ford is offering no help to fix the issues. They are going to get sued because, sadly, this defect is going to end up killing someone. They are lucky my daughter wasn't hurt. This steering issue should be recalled. Lives are at risk and no one seems to care (especially Ford!). Now Ford wants $2,500 to fix this defect. I don't think so! Ford will not get another red cent from me, ever! their steering defect could have cost my daughter her life! I'm ready for a class action lawsuit. I'm ready to fight! what is it going to take to get this defect recalled? an innocent life, maybe two? what? everyone is put on notice that there is a serious malfunction with this car and I know Ford already knows about it. They've had issues with steering in their other vehicles that have been recalled and they've had 100s+ (if not more) of complaints with this vehicle in particular regarding the steering. Ford turning a blind eye is completely unacceptable!.

32 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

Since purchased brand new in sept 2011, my Focus has had major transmission issues that has been a nightmare to deal with with Ford to this day. My Focus was taken in at least 5 times in the first couple years for a faulty clutch that caused jolting and shuddering and jeering while driving, causing my car to slip in and out of neutral on the road, sometimes nearly hitting other drivers. It became very dangerous. It took at least 5 visits for Ford to replace the first clutch. They refused to accept that the part was faulty and did computer "updates" that did nothing to fix the issue. Over the last few years, my car has been brought in about a dozen more times for the same issue and has had a total of 5 clutch replacements in 6 years, and my car just broke down again yesterday, just barely over 100k miles, with Ford refusing to warranty my transmission. A message appeared, "transmission malfunction service now" and my car completely died. Ford never wants to take responsibility for these transmission issues and have hassled me every time in the last 6 years over these issues. It is a huge safety issue to keep driving this car never knowing when the clutch is going to give out and cause the transmission to fail. I have supporting documents for these claims and can request all service records from Ford if necessary. I do not want these documents made public since they contain sensitive information.

33 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

34 Transmission Failure problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

The NHTSA is non compliant with standards that they have set. From 2012-2015 Ford Focuses have been manufactured/sold/leased that are unsafe for public use. The safety defect is with the power train of the vehicle; the transmission fails while being operated and ian liable to cause an accident. This has happened to myself while driving and the NHTSA has ignored the issue. This safety defect meets the standards of what is required for a vehicle to be investigated with intent to recall. The secretary of transportation is not being held to her responsibility to investigate safety defects that have potential of death/injury. I request an investigation into my vehicle specifically which is a 2015 Ford Focus. I have done everything the manufacturer asks as far as regular maintenance, new tires when necessary, regular servicing, replacing all parts and equipment advised my the service department of my vehicles manufacturer (Ford motor company). The vehicle hasn't nearly killed me 3 times and is unsafe. When will the NHTSA honor their legal requirements to take action on known safety issues?.
