While driving, the spark plugs eject from the block. This is dangerous and can cause an engine fire. This problem has apparently been reported to Ford, but they claim nothing can be done until they receive a certain amount of complaints. This is not normal wear and tear. The spark plugs have been replaced four times along with the coil. This is unacceptable and inconvenient and Ford needs to remedy this issue everyone is having with their vehicles.

8 Engine problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/06/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Focus. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a vacuum leak due to brake failure. The dealer repaired the failure and stated that Ford had to upgrade the computer in his vehicle, which meant that it had to be reprogrammed. Once the contact entered the vehicle, the idler increased to 1,200 rpm's and then dropped to 1,000 rpm's. He placed the vehicle in gear and it sped off. He could not stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal because the engine was pushing against the brakes. The contact drove 20 mph around the parking lot for approximately 20 minutes with no brakes. The dealer is aware of the failure and called the manufacturer. The contact was informed that the vehicle was designed that way to be compliant with the epa regarding the catalytic converter. While driving 60 mph, the gears do not change or decrease to a lower rpm. The failure mileage was 57,000.

14 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/20/2007

The 2000 Ford Focus was not idling correctly. It would act as if it were going to die after deceleration. I have had three mechanices look at it including a Ford dealership. There was a service bulletin on their website regarding a valve sticking. It requiree d replacing the head at a cost of $1500-$2500. Ford had since redesigned the engine so this problem will not happen again with future models. I would like to ask for an investigation or a recall. Instead of Ford fixing their designed defect they were making money off the repairs for something the owner could not prevent nor does it mean improper maintenance.

15 Engine problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus zx3. While driving 5 mph on 04/17/2007 a rainy day the driver hit a puddle and water was trapped inside the sport intake system which caused the engine to fail. The owners 60 day warranty has not expired. However, the dealer stated he would have to pay $6,000 to repair the engine. The current and failure mileage were 34760.

16 Engine problem of the 2006 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/28/2007

I've had my 2006 Focus st for about a year now. Since I bought my car I have had to have 3 different engines put in it. The original motor threw a piston rod down the bottom of my engine and out. They said it was poor casting on the crankshaft. This was at about 4,000 miles. Then at about 15,000 miles it did the same thing only this time I caught it before it blew. Needless to say I had to have a new engine . . . Again. What happened is my rod bearings went out which is most likely what happened the first time, causing my engine to completely throw a piston rod. Now I am on my 3rd engine and hoping that this one sticks. The mechanics are very puzzled why this is happening. They have run all the diagnostics to prove I haven't been racing and I get regular oil changes through the dealership. Ford is trying to get to the bottom of it. Good news is 2 more times it's a lemon. Bad news is I have had to deal with missed time at work and the inconvenience of it all. Beware but, this doesn't seem to be a regular occurrence among Focus owners.

17 Engine problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/25/2007

- the contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. While driving a 65 mph the vehicle lost power. The contact was able to safely pull the vehicle over. The vehicle would not restart for an hour. The vehicle had lost power four times. There was a warning light, but the contact was not able to remember which one. The failure mileage was 159,000. The contact had not taken the vehicle to dealer to be diagnosed.

18 Engine problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/15/2007

My engine in my brand new 2007 Ford Focus was not starting properly. Had to actually push the gas to get the engine to catch. Contacted my dealer, and was told it was a problem with the engines in the 2007. He would contact me when it was ready to be fixed. I waited 8 mos and contacted Ford canada. The dealer was notified and brought it in, but nothing was done then either. It continues to be a poor starting problem.

19 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/11/2006

- the contact's car was marked as a total loss as a result of a fire. There was an engine fire while it was parked. Contact heard of some other instances of that happening. There was no indication of previous problems with the car. The contact believes there was a police report filed.

20 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/16/2006

The engine blew on my 2000 Ford Focus. A connecting rod broke and cracked the oil pan. Engine fluids, including oil and anti-freeze poured out of the engine. While there are 130,000 miles on the vehicle, it was well-maintained. We did not expect it to fail after 6 years.

21 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/22/2006

VIN: 1fahp38311w302609 number of items: 2 item 02s42 recall date: title: pinch bolt torque and zetec engine battery cable routing item 05s27 recall date: title: rear door latch corrosion.

22 Engine problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/02/2006

At vehicle start up, my wife heard a loud pop, followed by engine sputtering, and smell of gas fumes. My wife took the kids out of the car and ran away for fear of fire. The following day, we had it towed to the dealership. The dealership told me a spark plug blew out of the engine and striped the engine block. I called Ford motor corp. They said they could not help me with the repairs, since my vehicles warranty just exspired. The car only has 35,000 mile on it, and has had other major electrical problems at 25,000 miles. Now I am paying for a car that doesn't even run, I guess I should have known better than to buy a Ford. Ford has lost a customer forever.

23 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/20/2006

For several weeks, when I would go to start my Ford Focus (2000 se), I would feel a small amount of turbulence coming from the engine. Today, as I delivered my newspaper route, the engine had a loud unrythmic tick to it. By the afternoon, when I attempted to turn on the car, the engine shook violently and made a terrible 'clanking' sound that echoed loudly from within the chambers of the engine. I have not attempted to restart my vehicle, because my mechanic warned that he has worked on three other Focus models that have had the same problem. Two of those vehicles experienced an exploding of their engines. My vehicle will cost anywhere between 500$ and 1000$ to repair, but even then there is no guarantee that it will be remedied. The mechanic believes that the problem exists within the fourth chamber's bearings, which - if out of alignment - causes the shaft to lose centrifugal force (hence the violent shaking).

24 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/06/2006

2000 Ford Focus suffers from defective motor mounts that could cause drive shaft damage. There was a recall for this problem in some areas according to my Ford dealer, my car was not included in that recall. I would like to file a complaint to document that my car and others falling in that parameter should be included in the recall for right motor mount.

25 Engine problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/20/2005

Engine accelerated at a high speed while shifting from forward to reverse (and vice versa). To overcome the problem I maintained heavy pressure on the brake and tapped the accelerator.

26 Engine problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/09/2005

The car hesitates while at speeds above 40 mph. Appears to shut down and restart. The car has been back to dealer on several occasions and not repaired.

27 Engine problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/16/2005

Purchased a 2000 Ford Focus on07/23/2005, with optional service contract and on 09/16/2002, had engine problems took it back to dealer, insurance does not want to cover all repairs I'm liable for1,900 and they wil pay the rest which the vehicle needs an engine overhaul, but its still under warranty and I'm liable only for my deductible of 100. 00 through some investigating I've been doing this vehicle is "lemon law buy back". Also a dealer roll back vehicle, my contract also was to cover all rental got one on 09/16/05 returned on it 10/3/05,still left without a vehicle, currently still at dealer service center. The worst car I had only 2 months with it, obviously there are more defects. What kind of products is Ford putting out on the road so many complaints I mean we do not have any information on whether repurchased vehicles encounter a frequency of repairs that is greater than the equal value ,so far nothing has been done I have submitted a complaint letter to the Ford corporation requesting that they look into this situation also made claims to th ,bbb, dept. Of motor vehicles, consumer affairs, dept. Of ins. Have not heard response from Ford corp. Moreover Ford has been aware that this class vehicle made inordinately prove to be a failure. What about that extra service contract? what about the costs incurred during this 50 day lengthy-repairs? since I have had this vehicle which was for 2months only this is the fist failure and the last.

28 Engine problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Brake problem. At about 2000 to 3000 miles breaks starts to squeal and grind. Took it in to service at dealer complaining about problem, as it got worse and was not normal in 6,000 miles. Was told no problem, routine break in. Then at 12,000 miles still a problem. Went to another dealer, said the same thing. Now with nearly 18,000 miles, rotors are grooved very bad. Evidence and warning was evident in the earlier miles as well. Ford has done nothing to help. I feel they owe me a new pair of rotors and pads. Also, complained of clutch noise problem. I have heard of a TSB claiming certain 2004 Focus have a transaxle misalignment causing pre-mature clutch wear and noise. Wiper switch has been replaced by rc lacy Ford, better service, but they won't service me anymore, since I did not buy it there, and ravena is so close. I need to contact crossroads about all future warranty issues and complaints. Doors in the rear also stick, and wear of door striker is evident. Tires have also been worn pretty bad pirelli 195/60 r15. Back pair are totally bald, and only have had like 18,000 miles, I think it was a alignment issue, which for a car 17 months old should not be an issue. I noticed wear at around 13,000 miles. During my second tire rotation. Have had too many problems with this new vehicle. Also issues with extreme chipping around the rear wheel well. Also have had a hesitation problem at about 25 mph. #rd gear used to be difficult to engage. Please help me resolve these issues. I got nowhere with the dealers myself. The VIN is not the appropriate VIN. My car is a 2004 zx5 duratec 2. 3e 5 spd. Almost all options included. Thank you.

29 Engine problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/22/2004

When parking a 2004 Ford Focus, they are designed in a manner if you park to close to a curb stop the oil filter can be hit and knocked off the car. All of the oil drained out and within less than 4 miles the car was inoperable. Ford motor looked at the vehicle still under warranty and claimed the owner would need to come up with $5300 to fix the car. They claimed the consumer was liable and it was her fault and not a design defect, claiming the motor froze after 2-4 miles and no oil light ever coming on.
