Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Ford Focus - part 1

For years my car has randomly shut down while driving and has been needed to be towed twice. It and has had 10 recalls performed, including the transmission. My car shut down again on Monday night coasting along a flat road at 45 mph so I decided to call Ford today and ask what new recalls have come out and they stated my car has a field service issue for the transmission that is common but they have not recalled it. Why? they also mentioned that they have to look into whether or not I would have to pay to fix this commonly reported problem.

Car shut off in the freeway, shutters and shakes when turned on and rpm goes up to 4,000 to accelerate. I called multiple places and talked to multiple Ford representatives that wont help me and obviously my car is a danger to the road and myself. Theyre making me pay out of pocket for a Ford problem.

Parked the car, turned motor off, smelled smoke, release inside hood, more smoke coming from under hood, could not open hood up,flames started shooting out, called 911 who called fire department, several small explosions before fire department, whole front car engulfed in flames. Vehicle just turned 21000 miles, h. Ad not been driven for a car since I had 2 surgeries for fractured feet and just started driving several weeks ago. Did damage to my sons motor home and driveway. Vehicle had been garage kept since new and no maintenance performed on vehicle other than 1 recall which dealer took care of it in 2/2020. Luckly no one hurt. Vehicle was stationary and just shut off when incident occurred. Can get photos from my daughter-in-law as I didn't take any at the time. I was driving to work on the highway at 70 mph and the tachometer gauge started bouncing and the the engine shut off. Right before the engine shutoff it acted like the fuel was vapor locked and the engine was not receiving an adequate amount of fuel. The fuel gauge showed 1/2 tank of gasoline. My car was fixed last fall because of a fuel tank recall. The dealership installed a canister purge valve and flashed the tcm. Before the dealership installed the canister purge valve and flashed the tcm I experienced the same prior to the dealership fixing the decal. Now whenever my vehicle gets at or below a half of a tank on my fuel gauge it acts like it's starving for fuel and is going to die out.

My radio has very high static and I cannot use my phone system. My fuel gauge is not reading properly. My car just shuts off while I am driving it. When I pull off the engine stalls. These issues have been on going every since I owned the car. It is a complete lemon.

Tl- the contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle shuts off. The vehicle was taken to gene latta Ford inc 1565 carlisle st, hanover, PA 17331. The contact was informed the vehicle would need a cyclonid. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The manufacturer indicated 0 recalls. The approximate failure mileage is 52,000. Bh.

The vehicle just shuts down on the expressway without warning while in traffic. The transmission has been overheating without any unusual acceleration. If driving over 25 mph the transmission overheats and will not accelerate. The vehicle radio comes on without the key in the ignition. The vehicle engine light and transmission light continues to come on without warning.

Engine light came on with "engine fault service now" message. The vehicle went into limp mode and finally car shut down. I took into a Ford dealership and they said the turbo and engine were not getting fuel on the highway pumped into them and would both need replaced.

Car began to stall and completely shut down. While in drive, with my foot on brake at a red light a error code flashed on dash " transmission not in park" and then it shut off. Car stalled 4 more times in a matter of a hour, twice while in park and car was just running. Last time at a red light in drive . Took 30-40 seconds to restart car, very unsafe.

The manufacturer was contacted and provided the same information as the dealer. The contact requested a loaner vehicle, which was denied. The vehicle was taken to henryetta Ford where it currently remained. The failure mileage was 98,000.

I was driving in morning rush-hour traffic, car engine shut off in middle of traffic and would not turn back on. After about 20-30 min, it started and I was able to move to safe area before it shut down again. I had it towed to a local Ford dealer.

The contact was informed of an unknown recall regarding the evap purge valve. The dealer reprogrammed the computer system in January of 2019, but the recall was not remedied. The manufacturer initially denied the claim and was investigating to see if they could assist with the repair costs. Also, after refilling the fuel tank, it took four or five times to restart the vehicle. The failure mileage was 80,000.

While driving the car, 4 days after having the 2nd clutch replacement at 30,000 miles, it was on a street not highway, the cars electronic dash displayed "transmission fault fix now". The car then slowed down a bit losing power, then several other signals appeared on screen, brakes and a few others, then the engine shut down and power went out. The car would not restart after a few minutes, so aaa called to tow it back to dealership. This happened Sunday July 28, 2019. Monday afternoon, after they had time to look at vehicle, I received a call telling me that the "alternator " was faulty and they would get back to me when they had the replacement which turned out to be the next day. The issue with this is my wife had been 110 miles away and had drove home Saturday July 27. If that had let go while she was traveling the 70 mph speed limit there could have been a fatal accident. This vehicle has been in and out of Ford dealership 5-6 times for safety related issues.

After several attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. I took my car in for a recall a few months ago also mentioning that it has been saying it's overheating and they gave my car back saying nothing is wrong and now I've been driving with my newborn daughter and all of the sudden my car wouldn't go past 65 & then after it started working again my battery goes out I thought it was because the gas light had been on and so I called aaa and had someone come down they put in gas and got it started but to my dismay I wasn't even able to make it home seeing as how my car could barely accelerate and again it shut off at first I was driving on the freeway and when I slowed down to stop at a light my battery symbol went on and then the car shut off & after I got it working again it was working and then it slowed and would let me press the brakes anymore and since the. It won't start.

My vehicles transmission has been replaced several times and had a tcm replacement as well and still is not working it is also had two clutches and several software updates with no success. The car has started displaying new transmission issues related to the software in which now the vehicle will no longer go in reverse and just the other day while driving at 75 to 80 mph on the highway my vehicle slammed it self into second gear very hard and then into neutral I was almost rear ended at approximately 85 mph in which I could have died this is unacceptable afford to not except responsibility and offer a buyback for these vehicles I have spent countless hours of my time with this vehicle and have had several occasions with engine loss power transmission would not shift slamming into key lower gears at high rate of speed complete car shut down all of these issues in which I could have been in a fatal accident with and we still have no resolution after several years I am out raged.

The car shut off on me while driving and I scheduled the dealership to fix it because I found similar issues and a recall but when I dropped my car off they said no recall existed for my car and there is nothing they can about my car. When I was leaving the dealership I almost got hit in traffic because I had the same issue for two days in a row and it keeps happening.

Ford has issued a recall regarding the fuel tank deformation but they state that the car should not have any issue when it's above 1/2 of a tank. I have experiences the car stalling around 3/4 of a tank multiple times now. The car engine shuts off when I take my foot off the gas, the dashboard lights come on. I have to park the car and restart it. Ford has not been able to fix the issue due to lack of parts since I took my car in on Dec. 6th.

I was driving normally and the engine shut down with no warning (lights on the instrument panel went off) then came back up. Not long after this, I came across an article that suggested a current recall could be to blame for this but my VIN is not included in this recall. It should be. Tl - the contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving about 65 mph, and attempted to slow down, the rpm went down and the engine shut off. The check-engine light illuminated. Takata recall amongst the known recalls, is a lot of unsaid issues with this vehicle. It started with the tcm. When I had the dealer fix it, the codes were showing ok but the vehicle continued to display the same issues when trying to accelerate. For some reason when driving, it seems as if I'm driving a manual vehicle instead of a automatic. The clutch is giving me problems. It tend to get stuck in the hill assist mode. A few weeks ago my car just died. It seemed to be the battery. When replaced it was ok for a day or so. I had it checked to see if my alternator was bad. It both places stayed it was fine. Periodically it would stop. It didn't seem like there where any determining factors on when (like cold or hot weather). So I drove it less. One day when driving, going 46 mph, it just shut down. The screen showed �not in park�, starting system fault and it would not allow me to place the vehicle in neutral. It then began to start and stop whenever. The grounds were checked, the starter, the alternator, the fuse and orhers. My horn would sometimes go out for days, up to weeks. When trying to start the car, it would eventually flash �normal mode�. It's so many things going on here! I fear all the time with this car. When the tcm started acting up, it stopped while driving too. I'm a mother of 5, I've has this car for 4 years as for the past 2yrs I've been living in fear of my children and I dying in this car. I've spent more money buying rentals and having others assist with transportation when this car acts up, I could've paid half of my last 2yrs off. This is not fair because everyone doesn't have the ability to just get up a go trade in a car or walk away. I've been having different problems for over 2 yrs now but when it shut off while driving on the highway, it was in the beginning of September 2018 (this month) it got worst and I had it towed to the dealer.

Car shut off completely while moving 25 miles an hour on a local street. . Battery was functioning perfectly. When looked at by the dealer was told starter motor was dead, this also later confirmed by repair technician at another facility (riverside service). Starter motor would not have had anything to do with the vehicle shutting off completely while in motion. At the same time starter motor was replaced, 2 ignition coils were identified as failed or failing. In the last 9 months a total of 4 ignition coils have failed. Ford has not identified the problem with the vehicle, merely replaced broken parts. They have not addressed in any way the dangerous condition posed by my car's stalling on an active roadway.

The car has a known recall about the fuel system the car will randomly just shut off without warning Ford said you must keep the car on a half tank of gas at all times. They don't have the parts but my car is getting so bad very very bad.

While driving at speed the car will shut off without warning. There is a recall for the wiring harnesses for other Ford Focuses with the same issue but mine is not covered under that recall. The engine shutting off while driving has caused me to almost be hit several times and is a safety concern.

I was driving and the car kept turning of. It happened when I was stopped at a light and multiple times when I was driving. It doesn't shutter and stall, it just shuts off. Engine light came on with p1450 and p0456. It is evidently a known issue. There was a recall for 2010-2011 Ford fusions for the exact same thing. "some of these vehicles might have a canister purge valve that does not work properly, causing internal pressure changes inside the fuel tank. Repeated pressure changes inside the tank could result in a crack on the top of the tank, possibly allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can lead to a fire. " there is no recall for the Ford Focus models affected, even though it is a known issue and not related to normal wear. It is a manufacturer defect. It was a very scary experience and a very costly one to repair. I am under 60,000 miles. I do not understand why there is a recall on one model, but not the other for the exact same manufacturer issue. The estimated repair cost is $1800 from the Ford dealership service department. I was almost hit, because it happened while I was making a turn. It caused me extreme anxiety. This is not the first manufacturer issue I have had with this car. Not long after getting it, I had transmission issues.

Driving my 2014 Focus engine shut down ,pulled over to the shoulder of road in snow storm ,all most hit by tractor /trailer ,this was on I- 376 in PA ,after few minutes car started then stalled again , then car started and was able to continue on.

Shuddering so bad that car shuts off while driving on the highway. 60 to nothing. Nearly hit. Shuddered leaving stop signs and intersections- nearly hit. Fuel system issues- bowed gas tank in the heat. Could have exploded. In shop 8+ times since new. Ford customer care nor Ford dealership will resolve.

Started with horn and tail light intermittently not working. Then intermittently as you are driving the car shuts off with no warning. This is a major safety issue! everything locks up and you attempt to make it safely to the side of the road. All dash lights work but car won't start. Found same complaints on internet and youtube but no recall. Took to local Ford dealer and they cannot find the issue. The diagnostic machine did not issue a code. I explained in detail the issue and asked for documentation of the issue. The paper they gave me said runs rough when ac is on. I said that is not the issue. They said don't worry the ticket is still open in the system. I asked if they could put a reader on the car while driven to catch the diagnostic code and they said no. So I am in same situation as other owners where my safety and others are at stake each time this car shuts off. Also dealer said they h horn with a screwdriver to make it work for now. So no horn, tail light and car shutting off intermittently are serious safety issues. Ford needs to recall this problem and fix it!.

I have changed many parts on my 2010 Ford Focus se 2. 0 and has not changed anything. I started out with not idling and after spending a few hundred dollars it has not changed anything. Very dangerous. When you come to a stop it shuts off. The person behind you thinks your going to proceed and you don't do to car shut off it is a very dangerous position your in. I did read that there are many of theses mystery problems with theses vehicles and Ford cant even figure it out. If this is a safety issue with many than why has this not been corrected by Ford. Does so many people have to be hurt before it becomes a recall? I have also heard that this happens under warranty and up to 100k. Verry sorry!.

Driving on freeway at 65mph engine shut down without warning. No power steering and no power brakes. Was able to coast to the shoulder. When tried to restart violent shaking. Towed to Ford dealer for repair. Not diagnosed yet after 2 days. This car is a lemon. Had transmission clutches replaced twice. Had transmission control module replaced when it failed. Have continuous wheel bearing noise that was brought into dealer under warranty and they never solved the problem.

I have a 2013 Focus and on 3/14/16 on my way home on the freeway, my oil & battery light started flickering on and off at the same time and as it did the car was stalling out. I put my 4-way flashers on, slowed down and moved to the right lane as a safety measure. After another few miles both lights came on and stayed on and the car shut down. I pulled over to the berm, waited a few minutes, tried starting, it started and drove home with no issues. I drove to work the next day with no issues. On the way home things started happening again, the car shut down, but this time after waiting a few minutes the car never started. I had it towed to the dealer and they found that a wiring harness was up against the throttle body and wore through the protective insulating tape, then the wires causing the problem. Also, in speaking to the mechanic he said that the bracket the harness was using to keep in place was causing it to be up against the throttle body so he unclipped the bracket. I'm going to call the Ford customer service center to discuss. Another issue was that the "book" said it would take 3 hours, but only took 2. And yes they tried to charge me for the 3. Interesting at $125/ hour, that would be $250/ hour they're making while the mechanic starts on the next car! unbelievable.

At random times the car will just shut off leaving a coasting vehicle down the highway, or leave you stalled out in the middle of an intersection. If you leave it sit for 30min-1hour it may restart. If you press the accelerator it was not respond. After a couple minutes the vehicle will recover from a rough idle and try to lunge forward even when vehicle is in park. Problem: transmission control module.
