36 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/11/2014

The engine shuts off, and idle is constantly going too low. The car will sometimes shut off when the clutch is engaged, and the rpm's are allowed to fall to idle range. This is becoming a safety hazard because the car has died in middle of intersections, and while traveling at interstate speeds. Numerous other owners have posted the same issue, some with less than 200 miles.

While traveling on the freeway the car just died. Engine shut off, how ever all the electrical in the car were still working. Once pulling off the free way, the car started after several attempts but then died shortly after. The car then would not work. After getting the car towed to quirk Ford in quincy they had to keep it as a code they do not know what it means came up, so they do not know how to fix the car. The car is still in the shop to this day and they wont give me a rental.

38 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

Car when warmed up and during intercity driving will randomly cut out when the accelerator is not depressed. Car shuts off and becomes hard to steer and control. Have almost been hit and no one can figure out what's wrong. It does this intermittently. Also the car has the updated thermostat housing and the thermostat still tends to overheat. Have contacted Ford and call center employee did not seem too enthusiastic to help. Offered to find me a Ford dealer but not someone from their safety office. Also, car had old style ignition cylinder which locked back in February. This seems to be a common problem. . . Aftermarket have the same design.

39 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

My daughter was driving our new 2013 Ford Focus electric home from school at approximately 35mph when the "stop safely now" message appeared on the instrument panel. She started to pull over to the side of the road but before she could get safely to the curb, the car shut down. She was unable to get the car started and we had to have it towed to a Ford dealer. After reading about this 'stop safely now" warning online it seems to be a common problem. I understand that cars break down but completely disabling the car in this way could lead to a serious crash.

40 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

I lease two Ford Focus's; one for me and one for my daughter (under my wife's ownership). The car has stalled on me twice and once on my daughter. The first time it happened at speed of 35 miles per hour in June 2013 and the second time at less than 2 miles hour in August 2013. The first time, it asked me to pull over to the side and stalled. I pulled over and parked the car, looked at the wheels thinking that it may have happened due to low air, however, nothing. I shut down the car and then restarted after two minutes, it started just fine. That is until the second time when it actually happened at the corner of 11th and j street in sacramento, CA. I got out of the city garage made a right turn on 11th to make a left on j street. At the light, it just shut down with the warning without ability to pull over. I had to waive the drivers behind me to go around. I could not do much. Same thing, after two minutes, the car restarted. At both times, the car was fully charged. Similarly, this happened to my daughter, who freaked out and she called me. I told her it may be glitch as it had happened to me the first time around. She pulled over, parked, waited for two minutes, restarted and so far her car is fine. Whom should I report this to? the first time, it gave me time to pull over, however, the second time, it just shut down. I thought Ford knew about it thus did not report. Please help me report this. I love the car as there is no more gas station trips, however, it needs to be addressed. Hari.

42 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

While driving my vehicle locally, my car shut off and engine light came on. I was told it was the main flow valve. I have to replace it, but then my key got stuck in the ignition. My friend was able to get it out. On August 12, 2012, my driver seat moved while I was driving and continues to skip on a certain click latch. Indecember, I had to take it back to the mechanic, cause my engine light keeps coming on, but we are unsure as to why it keeps doing that. Every now and then I can smell smoking wires/electrical wires burning. Now my lighter in the car is not working, but I think that runs in a fuse. . . Not sure. On April 13th, 2013. I returned home from a wedding and I am unable to yet again, get the key out of the ignition. I took it to my mechanic and he told me to check to find out if others are having the same problem and what they did. Then my friend told me about the major Ford recall.

49 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

When driving car after so long the engine gets hot and speed reduces. When pushing on accelerator to try to pick up speed, it continues to lose more speed and starts jerking. After it continues to keep jerking and speed keeps going down engine shuts off, leaving me sit in the middle of town with two children under the age of two. When car stalls and you try to restart, it turns over but will not start. Once it does start it shuts back down until it sits for a couple hours. Had this problem for a long period of time. Ford refuses to fix even when under warranty. It supposed to be such a reliable car but is very unsafe to drive when it acts up. Could cause serious accident. I don't feel safe driving a car that I'm paying so much money for to keep breaking down. I find this to be a seriuos problem. I don't believe anyone that has children would want this happening to them and Ford not doing anything about it, telling me there's nothing wrong with it .

I would like to submit a complaint against crossroads Ford in raleigh, nc who has me drivinig a death trap. I least this vehicle last year (2000 Ford Focus) and only put 9000 mile on it to date. Even so, it has been shutting off while driving at 45+ miles per hour. When it shuts off I do not have steering capabilities. More than once I was in the fast lane and was in very dangerous situations. Once I went into a ditch with my four year old son in the car and to this day, he still remembers it. Ford has refused to take ownership of this problem and has not fixed it. This is my sixth lease or purchase from Ford and I am appauled at the treatment. I think they are waiting for another firestone incident, for me to lose my life, before they recognize the problem.

58 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/18/2000

Repeated attempts in dealing with Ford service, customer service and management (regional and central offices) have failed to correct these problems. Discrepancy in documentation by thomason damerow Ford service department in what I was told was done to the car versus what was documented. I was told verbally that certain corrections were made to the car but these were not documented. For example, I was told by chad the evening service manager that there was something wrong with the crank shaft dampener yet this was not documented when I picked up the car and informed dealer I would pursue lemon law. Dealer had car for 30 days in April and I was told parts were on back order. Regional manager was to have called me back but did not. Service manager contacted on 08/22/2000 and 08/23/2000 regarding repeated problems but he only seemed to be concerned with documentating our telephone conversation. Service manager stated he did not know the status on the back ordered parts but that he would call me back but he has not. I informed him that car continues to stall while driving. Dealer provided with new phone and address although they were to have contacted me a few months ago before I moved yet failed to do so since April 30,2000. Car has since stalled, I am very afraid to drive the car on the highway as the car will not even reach acceptable and a safe speed to merge with highway traffic. I will not use the cruise control as it seems to accelerate on its own even after the cruise control is not in use and it is turned off. There are numerous other problems with this car but the one I am most concerned about is the safety of this vehicle. . . . . Stallling, engine shut down while driving on highway, inadequate speeds to merge with traffic, inadequate speeds on slight incline, unable to use car to travel up the mountains which are plentiful in the area where I live. Please investigate this problem to protect the public's safety , both the Ford drivers and others on the road.
