31 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

Ford motor company knew and has know for years about bad valve seats in their 2000-2004 Focus's with 2. 0l split port injection engine. Where ever these heads were made , the quality control for this part was not evelauated properly. The engine drops a 'pressed in' steel valve seat that falls into the cylinder and puts too much stress on the piston, bore, and connecting rods of the engine. Under this stress it generally will cause rods to break, warp or come through the block wall. (which is what happened to my engine). It may be a cooling problem, it may be faulty design or poor craftsmanship. Regardless, if this car won so many awards over it's lifetime from motor trend or other institutions. . . . Then they should be backing the many people who have had to fork out thousands in engine repairs and parts to fix this problem. It seems to show up at variable mileage. . . Which I'm sure is due to each individuals driving habits. And it's obvious it's a defect --due to the similarity each person has experienced. It almost always happens to the same cylinder (number 4) and it's always just this particular engine. . . This is not coincidence. . . This is poor quality control. . . And should be addressed as such. I believe a recall by Ford is in order. . . . Without question by Ford motor. . . . They're ceo makes millions. . . How about fixing these cars. . . . It might explain why so many people stop buying Fords and go foreign. . . . And I can hardly blame them when they do! you need to come half way with the people on this matter Ford motor---it's hurting your reliability and dependibility issues. I replaced the engine for a wopping $2896. 00 and will never buy a Ford anything.

32 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

I have a 2003 Ford Focus and the thermostat housing unit is cracked. When it cracked, and started to leak, it caused a lot of smoke, and when it started to leak, due to the temperature of the coolant inside, it burned through other hoses attached and almost started a fire. The part is made out of plastic (should be made of some type of metal such as aluminum due to the high temperatures involved consistently), and 4 certified auto technicians that I talked to said that they replace dozens of them on Ford Focus's every year. They say that "it is a known problem with Ford's various Focus years, and should have been recalled a long time ago. " even the Ford dealership said the following "yeah, Ford knows it's a problem; that's why we always keep that particular part in stock. " literally, there are tens-of-thousands of online complaints regarding this part, and how it has caused serious harm and damage. The problem starts by some coolant leaking slowly, and within a week (even after continuously adding coolant), the leak becomes larger and larger, causing the damage listed above, and causing the heater to not work. Why is this a very well-known problem to Ford; a problem that can cause serious safety issues, yet they do nothing for the tens-of-thousands of people that have encountered this problem? the part is $75 from Ford and then you have to pay labor too, which is about $150-$200. The Ford replacement part# for the defective part is rh157. I have the old part available for inspection if needed.

33 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/03/2011

After purchasing car with 62k miles on it, I discovered a coolant leak the next day. This leak has gotten worse over the last week. A search of different internet sites found at least 15 reports of the thermostat housing coming loose/breaking loose from its position against the engine block. This is where the leak is coming from on my car, and the description in at least one other case appears to be identical to my own leak. The descriptions found online range from nearly immediately after purchase to approximately 1 year after purchase. This leak is severe enough to generate a 2ft wide by 4ft long puddle of coolant in approximately 12hours. Continuous leak even after car has sat for greater than 12 hours rules out a failure only while under pressure.

34 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

In 2007, I purchased my new Ford Focus based on the recommended rating in consumer reports. Did you know that when the a/c of the Focus stops functioning, so does the auto? I am not mechanically inclined. I don't know if most or all autos are built this way. If so, based on the difficulties I have had just to find out this fact about Focus, and the $1,400 expense I incurred fixing problems, I would strongly suggest that this fact clearly stated in any ratings discussion, in bold fonts. My car had been maintained at the dealer every 3,000 miles, has only 42,000 miles on it, without accidents, tickets, violations. Foremost, the a/c should have lasted much longer. I am not sure that the recommended rating was warranted.
