36 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

I own a 2005 Focus, 4 door, about 2 months ago I noticed a severe shaking in the car, at idol and while driving, took the car to get new brakes and the mechanic told me the motor mounts are broke, and ir would be at least $500 to fix, he also told me this is a common thing in the Focus that the mounts were defective. Considering my car has very low mileage for being an 05, 33,900, I do not expect to have to fix major problems like this. I do not think motor mounts should be shrugged off as "common problem" this can be a danger while driving and I feel it needs to be investigated, as to why the mounts go bad so quickly. I would appreciate any advise or answer to this issue. Thank you.

37 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Have 2007 Ford Focus se with 50,000mil on it. 1st offense happened July 2009. Had to replace 100,000 mil warranty spark plugs(Ford product) @ 38,000 mil. They were burnt to crisp . Replaced then 2 wks later btwn 45-50 an hr my car was shifting like a manual transmission. I was told I no longer had a warranty(Ford directly said this) went to another rep company. Told me my cylinders were going out. No engine light was coming on. Company told me to call Ford directly because maybe there was a recall. They told me there wasn't and that I did have a powertrain warranty but this was not covered, yet my owners manual says that cylinders are covered by powertrain. I paid over $200 to fix problems in Aug 2009. It is now oct 2009 and I will have to replace everything again! I am to this date barely over 2 yrs old on the vehicle(bought Aug 2007) and just now turned over 50,000 mil. This should not be happening to this vehicle. The company I took it too said that they see this problem alot because the cylinders get too hot and burn the spark plugs because there is no cooling system for this area. This needs to be a recall.

38 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

Noticed coolant leaking onto pavement for several days. For fear of overheating took it into a pep boys as was closest repair facility. They found the thermostat housing (plastic I might add) was faulty and with parts and labor it came to $455 for the job. The nearest Ford dealer said they would need 2 days to even look at the problem.

39 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/05/2008

On my 2002 Ford Focus, the thermostat housing began leaking coolant when the thermostat housing gasket against the engine block failed. This is a common problem on various years of the Focus as verified by the comments of the Ford motor CO. Parts sales people in saying that they sell many of the thermostat housings, and also by blogs on internet chat lines. The rubber gasket swells when it comes in contact with oil and breaks off the inner gasket-support ring, allowing the leak to happen. It is a poor design that can lead to major problems such as environmental pollution and engine failure. I would be glad to mail the affected part to you for your examination. It is amazing how completely the support ring failed, and the condition of the gasket that is not compatible with oil which leaks from the valve cover above. The part could easily be redesigned to use a standard o-ring for the seal, which is resistant to oil, and seals better. The current gasket is more like a rubber band that is held in place by the inside rim which breaks off.

Failure Date: 06/07/2008

Ford Focus 2000 se - car loses engine power when driving on highway at 50/55 mph. Then warning sign lights up after a few minutes. I noticed this happens during hot weather mainly. Even after less than 10 miles of driving. If I stop the car a few minutes, the warning light shuts off but the problem is still existing. Does not happen during cold months.

Failure Date: 12/18/2006

- on December 18th of 2006 while coming out a drive-thru, contact states that the engine thermostat went above normal . The gauge temperature reached the top of the register. The contact stated in order for her engine not to over heat she had to drive at a speed of 45mph. The contact currently has the vehicle at the dealership and they stated that the problem with the vehicle is that the resistor that controls the cooling had burned out and part of the harness had melted. The contact states that she has been on the NHTSA website and there are 24 similar complaints. If the invoice for repair is needed contact can provide a copy of the invoice.

47 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/11/2006

I have had my Ford Focus wagon for three years now. I had to repair a alot of things on this car! tranny, alternator, fuel pump, timing belt, and the only door that opens from the outside is the passenger right front, which my kids have to climb through to get to the back because both back doors broke not even four months from the day I bought it. Also the driver door only opens from the inside because of the companies defected car door handles. My friend has the same car, and its the same way. Not mentioning how everytime I stop it dies out and I have to try and keep starting it. It seems there is always something wrong with it.

48 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/17/2006

Cracked thermostat housing. I recently needed to have the plastic thermostat housing replaced on my Focus, as it was cracked and leaking. I have been researching on the web and found numerous other entries regarding the problem. I have not seen a recall or any info regarding if there is a systematic failure of the part. I have the part if needed for research.

49 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/20/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus. After driving the vehicle between 10-30 minutes, the vehicle will not restart after it has been turned off. He took the vehicle back to the same dealer and they stated that due to the mileage, the contact would have to pay for the same repair again. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 73,371.

50 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/29/2006

: the contact stated that the vehicle's venting system blew white flakes and dust inside the vehicle when the heater or air conditioning unit was activated. The first time the incident occurred the heater was on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who cleaned inside the venting system but could not find any problem with the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times because white flakes continued blowing through the vents. The dealer determined that a cleaning agent that may have been used to clean metal known as soldering flux may be the cause of white flakes coming from the vents. The evaporator coil housing was replaced on 04/07/06. The evaporator coil housing was cleaned on 04/21/06. The vehicle venting system was cleaned again on 05/23/06, but the problem persisted. The contact expressed concern about this causing a respiratory problem.

52 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/11/2004

My car has been stalling now for about a year. I had it fixed at around 27,000 miles and I still had a factory warranty and I went to joe machens Ford in columbia, mo (where I bought the car in 10/01) and they said it was a wire on the transmission that was corroded. About 3 weeks ago, this happened again and again I took it to joe machens and they told me there was nothing wrong with it. I had asked them to check again because this had happened about a year ago and it was transmission problems. They replaced some seals. Repair work took about a week. On June 4, 2004, I was going down I 270 in st. Louis, mo and I was in the fast lane going 75mph when my car stalled. It would not go and I am glad that I was going to the speed I was because as it was dying I was able to maneuver over to the side of the road. Joe machens again fixed it and said that it was the fuel pump. They replaced my fuel pump and my fuel filter on June 8, 2004. On my way home from columbia, mo on June 11, 2004 it stalled again. As of now I have not sent it any where to get it looked at because this happened last night on my way home from college. This will now be the fourth time this has happened with no results.

53 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/06/2003

Fuel gauge giving incorrect readings, car stalling on tight curves such as on-ramps to parkways and interstates. Told the problem was the fuel pump. Had it replaced on 7/11/03; within 48 hrs lines disconnected from pump spilling fuel everywhere. Ford reconnected lines which held for 2 weeks then disconnected again. This time Ford replaced the second pump. Now its the coolant system that is failing, car overheats then stalls. So far no accident has occured, but it seems only a matter of time.

54 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

2002 Ford Focus se engine stalled. Consumer had the fuel pump replaced expecting to remedy the problem. 58 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/08/2002

The main concern is the engine overheating. The dashboard indicator does not show when the engine overheats. Currently we are taking it back into the shop because of the smoke that come through the hood. We feel the car could catch fire at any moment and that is is undependable. It has been towed twice. We do not feel we can sell it because of all the on going defects and yet we still owe $9,000 plus to the bank on it. We feel trapped in an unsafe, undependable vehicle. The problems continue. We don't know what to do. Dt.

62 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/29/2000

These are the probelems with my car. It is only 8 months old, yet this car has had repeated problems. The first major problem is with the brakes. They continually squeak and I was told by Ford that it was due to a safety issue. The brakes and pads were replaced yet the problem has continued since. I have also made numerous complaints and had the breaks deglazed and serviced many times only to have the problems continue. The next problem is with the ventalation. The engine strongly smells of burning oil/fuel. This problem was checked and fixed three times, but this problem also continues. The smell is so strong inside the car that passengers now refuse to ride in the vehicle. The smell is also very strong from out side the car. The third problem with the vehicle is with the driver's side door. The lock and latch are very tight and are some times imbossible to turn or open without exessive force. The door hinges are also stiff. This is a lot of friction in the hinges making lots of noise and not allowing the door to move smothley. The last problem I am reporting is with the suspension. This problem has been fixed more than 5 times and it is still a very big problem. New parts have been put in and the squeaking and humming is still very loud. There are also loud clanking noises coming from the suspension.
