36 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I purchased a used 2012 Focus recently and a few days later on 9/22/14 I was driving around 50 mph when the rpms just shot up. I let off the gas and pressed down on it again and the engine revved up but again the car did not respond. I pulled over to the shoulder and tried to change the gear to neutral, then reverse, then back to drive and each gear did not respond to the gas. After shutting the car off I tried to start it up again and the car would not start. The traction control light and the the message "hill start assist not available" came on. After letting the car sit for a few minutes it started up and drove fine for the rest of the day. Two days later the same thing happened on the freeway and I had to cross three lanes of highway traffic without being able to accelerate. After letting the car sit for a minute the car started back up and drove for about a minute and then the same thing happened again. The check engine light also came on this time and stayed on. I managed to get to school although a little late. On my way home the issue occurred multiple times. The first time the car was jerking forward and loosing the gear and then jerking forward again. The issue occurred a few miles from my house and this time the car would not start up on multiple attempts like it had previously. I disconnected the battery thinking that would help reset whatever was stuck but when the battery was connected back up the car still would not start. After looking over fuses and disconnecting and reconnecting the battery multiple times the car finally started back up and I was able to make the last few miles to my home. The car is very unsafe to drive and I was almost rear ended on the freeway when I had to pull off to the shoulder without power to the drive train. The car has also been making a grinding noise when shifting between gears since the first day.

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I purchased this Ford on sept 22, 12. . . It had 83 miles on it. . I am the only owner. Since then its been in the dealer for service over 10 times. I am on my (3)third clutch system to stop the shutter and loud noise's it makes. The last clutch was installed on sept 23, 14. And after a week its back to its same jerking/shutters and the noise is loud when you make turns. Its really nice when I try to get a buyer to test drive it. I pray it does not make a noise during the test drive. And, the front shock suspension made crunching noises at low speeds on un-even road surface. (like driving in and out of drive way and in parking lots). And, the way to fix the front suspension. . . . The Ford service tighten the front end down. And. Believe me you feel every impact of the bumps. Ford put out a paper that the service people gave us the 1st time we when it. The car needs to learn your driving patterns. And the most resent one is the car might drive like a manual/standard car- with jerks. . And make noise. This is the transmission. This would be nice to have this info. Handed to me before I purchased the auto and then I could make a good choice is this purchase. But the information was given to me when I had issues with the Ford. Any, buyer read other drivers comments. And, if you really like to buy the Ford Focus. Get the manual one. It has no. . . . Issues because you shifting manual transmission. And not have the issues with this auto clutch. And, the 2013 to 2014 have the same issues as the 2012. Ford just can't get the problems fixed or they don't want to correct the issues on the Focus. .

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The vehicles transmission was making noises, shuttering and hesitating when taking off. I took it to the dealer 3 times and finally on the third time (after getting the regional Ford customer service representative involved) they told me that they had to replace the automatic clutch. They kept the car for a week and when I got it back I have to admit it drove better. However now 9 months and 15k miles later the transmission is making the same noises again and it is not shifting properly. The vehicle is doing exactly what it did when it only had 400 miles on it. I did some research and found out that a lot of people are having this same problem with the Ford Focus.

My car has a very loud rattling noise when it shifts, took to dealer, flanders and patch in lebanon nh on 07/22/13 they looked at it, and said its the transmission, {some part} ? was told it was the nature of the beast, and I would have to live with it. Will very likely try my hardest to , tell every one not to buy this type of car,.

40 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

I have had my 2013 Ford Focus at the dealer three times now for transmission problems with their dual clutch transmission including excessive noise during acceleration, hesitation when attempting to accelerate into traffic, and jerky acceleration, especially from 1st to 2nd gear. They have replaced the clutch and reprogrammed the transmission but the problem has persisted - the noise and hesitation returned within a day of the repairs. I simply do not feel safe driving the vehicle, especially in heavy traffic as I never know when it is going to fail to accelerate. Ford insists these issues are normal, but I can't imagine a car that sounds like this and fails to shift when accelerating into traffic is "normal".

41 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

My issue which I consider a safety issue is with the transmission, just a few days after purchasing the car I happened to be driving in stop & go traffic on the baltimore beltway and that is when I first experienced the transmission issue. The issue is that when you slow the car down to almost a complete stop (but do not come to a complete stop) and you try to accelerate the cars transmission starts making a clanging/grinding noise for a second or two as if the car did not know whether to go into first or second gear. When the car finally selected the gear it wanted to be in the car would lurch forward rapidly. I consider the lurching forward in stop and go traffic a safety issue, however my biggest safety concern is (hesitation) the second or two it takes for the car to start forward. Since you have removed your foot from the brake and have attempted to start forward I am concerned about being rear ended by the car/truck behind me. I have experienced this condition on several occasions in stop & go traffic and when slowing down to make a sharp turn. The car should be Smart enough to have a smooth shifting transmission in all instances. I am also concerned that the transmission will fail because of all the clanging/grinding and cause additional issues and cost additional money there is another issue that may be a problem, the electronic assist power steering at highway speeds does not respond as any other car I have driven, the steering seems very loose and constantly needs to be controlled (more than normal), also when changing lanes it takes more effort on the drivers part to maintain control of the vehicle. Also, if you encounter a road with indented pavement (like something a heavy truck would leave) it takes more effort to control the vehicle then it does with a hydraulic steering system.

42 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

After driving into houston last year, came to a stop light on the tollway. The light turned green, I pressed the accelerator and the engined revved high followed by a metal "clapping/clanking" noise when vehicle changed gears. I took my foot off of the accelerator, but car still accelerated on its own. I ended up running into a curb to keep from hitting other vehicles. The next day, going up a parking garage at 2-5mph, transmission exhibited erratic movement and had a sudden acceleration in reverse (gearshift was in the "drive" slot). A girl was passing behind me and was struck as I was reacting to the sudden change in direction trying to brake. She put her hands out to push herself away and her ring scratched my back bumper and her hand dented in my back license plate. Her hand was turning red and bruised, but she refused to leave her info with me (she looked to be about 15). Service dealers in houston could not "replicate" problem and said this is "normal. " after this incident, my highway mpg's have dropped from 35-42mpg to no more than 27mpg. City went from 26-30 to no more than 24mpg. Drove to austin in April, strong hesitation and "stuttering" from a complete or near stop. At highway speeds, it feels jumpy. Vehicle will accelerate on its own between 5-20mph, and 45-55mph. I drive on a college campus where speed is 20mph and I will have to put car into neutral to keep it from accelerating. I took this vehicle to the dealership at around 100 miles - they gave me a printout from Ford showing why this behavior is "normal" and will get better with more mileage. At around 6000 miles at the dealership in houston after injuring someone, they said it was "normal" for this vehicle to exhibit "undesirable conditions" and I just need to further break in the transmission. Now the problem is even worse, and my local dealership says it will take at least 2 weeks in the shop.

43 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Continuance issues with my Ford Focus 2013 Ford Focus •banging, jumping, slipping, shaking and grinding: it's has now become an issue that's affects the drivability and safety of the vehicle and passengers. •bogging down •takes off in a lurch, accelerates rapidly at times, safety issue •cars rolls backward when stopped on a hill. Safety issue •car occasionally jolts forward when shifting at low gear, safety issue •I’m told “it has to learn how you drive. ” I drive the car every day and it still hasn't so called, learned •concerned about even pulling out in traffic for fear the car isn't going to go or will need time to find its gear. Safety issue •in stop and go traffic it; slips often/hesitating/jerking/stuttering and grinding. •rpm spikes and drops when shifting. •noise when making a left hand turn. •sometimes will not go into reverse at all; on 9/9/14 stuck in a parking spot because the vehicle only moved two feet in reverse. Prior to this incident, the vehicle was towed into dealers because it would not go into reverse at all.

44 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

When I first bought car at the end of March, the vehicle would sometimes jerk at low speeds. Almost like a stick shift that was improperly shifted. This would happen even in reverse. And sometimes I can push the accelerator and the car would not move and then lurch forward. But this was an infrequent occurrence. I went on vacation last week (9-5 to 9-13) and drove the vehicle 2000 miles round trip. While driving I got stuck in stop/go accident traffic and the transmission on the car was constantly slipping and the car jerking forward. Also it would idle really hard before the vehicle would jerk forward. This oxxurred during slow speeds. The transmission now makes noise at 15 mph and 35 mph. This almost like a low grind (errr noise). And the jerking has gotten worse. You can push the accelerator down and nothing happens and then the car lurches forward. Have to keep distance between myself and the vehicle ahead of me. I have an appointment next week for the dealer to look at but there is something wrong with the transmission on the 2014 Ford Focus.

45 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/12/2014

While driving my car, it often hesitates when shifting, turning, accelerating, or decelerating. I had it "repaired" at a Ford dealership, which including replacing the entire clutch, in March 2014. The problem continued with added loud noises and grinding/shuddering. I returned it to a dealership, where the clutch was replaced again in July 2014. The car was fine for awhile, but after 200 miles, started having the same issues as before. The dealership replaced the clutch again in September 2014. On my 4th clutch, and it continues to have the same problems. I lack confidence in Ford that they can fix the problem and I am continuously concerned that my car may have unexpected problems causing serious safety concerns.

46 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

2012 Ford Focus. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle "power shift" transmission stalling issues. The consumer stated she would loose power while driving, and a metal noise was heard, as the vehicle shuttered and hesitated. A diagnosis revealed, the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. However, the parts were on a 30-day back order. The consumer stated 2 months have passed, and she has not received any notice or communication addressing the issue.

47 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Since I have had my 2014 Ford Focus it has had major automatic transmission issues. While driving at slow speeds, the transmission will over rev the engine, and this sometimes makes the vehicle unsafe when braking. The car will roll back on hills, and it often makes a strange rattling noise from under the car while the car is trying to change gears, the shift points are not where you suspect them to be, and will also behave oddly. I have had a part in the transmission replaced and on an additional visit, have also had the transmission reset to factory specifications. This issue is ongoing. I have an appointment to have an internal part within the transmission replaced for the second time at the dealership. This issue is starting to become a safety concern, and needs to be addressed!.

48 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

While driving my Ford Focus 2012, the engine would shutter inbetween shifts. This resulted in delays in the shift and then sometimes in surges in power, back and forth. There was also often a grinding or clicking noise coming from the undercarriage during the shift. I finally got Ford to fix this problem after taking it into the shop for service three different times and making numerous phone calls. In the interem, I beleive my life was in danger do to the unpredictible malfunctioning of this vehicle. There were several times when I was trying to get through an intersection or get on the highway when the delay/shutter/surge of the vehicle could have caused me to have an accident, as I could not predict when the incidents were going to occur, or exactly to what degree. I beleive Ford's repeated refusal to remedy this issue put my life in danger. The fix ended up being a replacement of the clutch. However, I was advised by the technician that this would only be a short term fix and that eventually the problem would return (no doubt next time only after my warranty has expired and I will not be able to afford the repair). Please help resolve this problem before some is seriously injured by Ford's refusal to take responsibility for their dangerous and defective product.

49 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

I have noticed that my car shifts awkwardly and makes a grinding noise when shifting into second and sometimes third gear. Sometimes the car will bog down and then get a surge of power and level off. Sometimes I will start going and between first and second gear it will bog and cause me to jerk forward. Some days it won't do it but most of the time it does.

50 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

My car had to go in for service twice. The issue as I described it was that the car bogs down, shudders while trying to accelerate, makes a rattling noise, and shifts incorrectly into the wrong gear. They applied a software update on 9/14 that was supposed to fix the issue, but it did not. I brought the car in today and they indicate that the transmission is leaking into the clutch. They say to pick up the car and drive it for the 10-12 days it will take to get parts. They'll fix it later they say. They will not provide a written statement of the problems they have found, as I requested. Not sure if it is safe to drive, I would think that it is not safe. The dealer is walls Ford, 2 merrill st, salisbury MA 01952.

51 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/20/2013

The transmission in the car started to behave erratically once we had ~2500 miles. It was making horrible grinding noises while shifting gears. It was shifting between gears (up/down/up/down) while ascending hills like it couldn't decide what gear to be in. It seemed to have lost power such that pressing the accelerator was not resulting in an expected increase in speed. It started to roll backwards occasionally when stopped on a hill, immediately after removing my foot from the break. On several occasions it would lurch forward while coming to a stop. Occasionally it is unable to find the appropriate gear, or stays in a gear well after it should have shifted to a higher gear. It often shudders, often to a point that it feels like it is going to stall, when accelerating from a stop. In general, we don't feel safe driving this car between the random lurches/jumps and the random lack of power/response to the throttle.

52 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

At 12,738 miles I took to dealer and complained about sluggish acceleration. At 14,886 miles I took to dealer and complained about clutch shudder and they installed new clutch and input shaft seals and axle seals, reinstalled trany with new hardware. Also complained that car would not start twice, on first turn of key. At 14886 miles, I was on highway accelerating from a stop. I got up to about 35 miles an hour and the car suddenly seemed to downshift, coming almost to a complete stop. Then it was very slow to accelerate up to speed again. This happened at two more successive stop signs, causing the vehicle behind me to have to slow down suddenly to avoid running into me. I also complained about the car sometimes scooting on the pavement upon acceleration as if "burning rubber" or "peeling out" also complained that one time, I turned the key off and I could still hear some kind of noise in the dash like something was still "working" like a cd player or something, which I wasn't even using.

53 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The vehicle began shifting very poorly at only one and a half years since purchase. Brought it to the dealer and explained the severe shaking and shuddering upon acceleration accompanied by a very loud metallic grinding sound. It was test driven and told immediately that it needed to be addressed. Was told that they had to contact Ford directly to get the fix for the error code. Was told that they loaded the update for the trans. And that it was now driving appropriately. Not even two weeks later it is back at the shop with even more severe shuddering and feeling loss of power (still has a metallic grinding noise). Was told that the car needed 1k miles after the update so that the trans. Could "relearn how I drive. " I did not accept this so the advisor at my dealership produced a list of normal operations and began to explain the type of transmission the Focus had. I told her that I was fully aware and accepting of the occasional hard shift or roll back on hill as was customary with a 'manual' transmission, but that this was much worse/different. Received a phone call today that the technician test drove my car and that he "could not replicate the complaint" even though it happens 95% of the time when I drive it. I am not even sure that they have looked at my transmission or merely attached it to a computer/test driven it. Will continue to bring the car to the dealership until this is resolved or the trans. Is recalled.

55 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The same afternoon after picking up my new car I noticed jerkiness while accelerating from a stop to around 30 mph. I blew it off and thought they maybe it was bad gas that was making car run funny. It only got worse from there. So bad I was scared to even pull onto a highway cause it would act as tho it was going to stall out. Then I started noticing noises kind of a grinding noise along with the hard shifting. I took it in a dealership said it was normal and give transmission time to get " use to how I drive" the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Needless to say my new car is in shop for however long. I'm not sure I even want it back from all the other horror stories I've read. Some catching fire and such. Ford needs to recall this vehicle and put a normal transmission back into it before something serious happens to someone.

56 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/30/2013

I recently purchase this 2013 Ford Focus se 6spd powershift with appearance package on June 8 2013. When I took it only had 7 miles. As I drove the next couple of days I heard noise coming from underneath when accelerating from stop and go traffic and this happens between 5 to 20 miles per hour as I accelerate and then it disappears. I went online and google this noise and read the threads looks like it needed to break in. When I reached around 700 miles on the odometer the noise is almost gone but still there and not as bad as before. Today June 30, 2013, it has 1183 miles on the odometer as I was making a turn from the light accelerating I got a sudden shift felt like something hit me from behind and heard a thunk when it shifted after that it went through the shifting sequence as I accelerated. This is the first time I bought a new car and have this kind of issues. I read about the power shift TSB bulletin but something is not right in this car hopefully Ford will fix this problem before warranty runs out. I believe the way its shifting something will wear out fast and Ford needs to act on this.

57 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

Purchased the vehicle last Saturday June 22. About 2 days after purchase the transmission started making noise shifting gears. Sounds like rocks in a aluminum coke can. It hesitates and shifts hard sometimes. Contacted dealer and was told if it should mess up I am covered by warranty. This to me is not normal and its quite scary. My car has 300 miles on it I shouldnt be having trouble like this. I read reviews from others and this seems to be a widespread issue. Also this is my first brand new car purchase and I am not very pleased.

58 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

Transmission makes noise, delayed acceleration, hard shifts. Vehicle has been taken to the dealership for software updates but no attempts to fix have been satisfactory.

59 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

I purchased the 2013 Ford Focus brand new on 2-09-13. Car barely has 1800 miles on it. While slowing down in a school zone to 15mph, I noticed the car seemed to lose power, and feel shaky. Once past the school zone I accelerated to 20mph and car shifted roughly into gear with a bumping noise. I pulled over and stopped and turned off the engine. After restarting car initially seemed fine. Exactly one week later same thing happened again when in supermarket parking lot. This time however the orange engine service light that looks like an outline of the engine appeared on the dashboard panel. I stopped the car again. When restarting the light went out but reappeared on the 2 mile drive home from the store. Car also seemed to lose power and not accelerate when I needed it to. I called my dealership 1st thing and was told it's most likely a sensor issue and very minor but I made an appointment and took the car in. The dealership ran computer diagnostics and service mgr. Came in and told me 2 error codes showed up of transmission malfunction/ and possible failure! a brand new car!!! they started talking about replacing the transmission and the on board computer, etc. . But dealership can't repair my car at this time because a specialist they don't have on staff needs to be called in. So I have an un safe, unreliable new car sitting in my driveway. 15 calls to dealership and to Ford's customer relations number and I can't even get an appointment to get the car looked at further to determine how defective it is!!! what a lemon! no matter how this is resolved, will never do business with Ford again. They seem unconcerned with the safety issues this defect is causing and they have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with!!.

60 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Back in may my husband and I were traveling in stop and go traffic and noticed that my brand new 2013 Ford Focus se was grinding and making horrible noises while shifting. Especially shifting in lower gears. As I remind you. . . This is an automatic. As of today this is the 4th time that it has been back to the dearlership and still the problem is not fixed. The car continues to jerk and make mental on metal grinding noises. Today when speaking to the dealer I was told that a Ford engineer was looking at it and trying to fix it. Remind you that the cluches have already been replaced, the computer has been updated, and the computer has been reprogramed. When I called today they said that they had to keep it over night. This is totally ridiculous and this is a new vehicle!!! of the almost seven months that I have owned the Focus it has sit in the shop a total of 20 days. Come on Ford!!!!.

61 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

Total loss of throttle, stalling in traffic, shuddering and erratic shifting with the Ford powershift transmission. Since purchasing car new in 2013, I had problems with the powershift transmission, initial problems was a noise that sounded like the muffler was dragging the road, probelms got worse as mileage increased. Returned the car to several dealers for diagnosis, was told that the transmission is operating as designed and no repairs were attempted. Problem got worse and I had experienced total loss of throttle in traffic on several occasions, car stalled and jerked in traffic causing neck to snap back. After repeated attempts to get the problem fixed with two different Ford dealers, a customer satisfaction letter came from Ford detailing issues with powershift transmission. I had to take my car into the dealer again, for diagnosis and was told they got it the transmission to fail the thresholds after 6 attempts, which warranted replacement of the clutch pack and internal seals, supposedly a faulty design that allowed oil from the gearbox to leak into the clutch pack causing slippage, noise and issues. Ford returned the car 5 days later, issues went away for 3 weeks or so, and have started to reappear in the same fashion as when the car was purchased new and is getting worse each day, with over 1000 miles on the car since service. As of today I have experienced shuddering and total loss of throttle in traffic, a few times were dangerous in pulling out in front of oncoming traffic the car could have caused me to get into an accident, also lunges in slow moving traffic. I am afraid to let my wife drive the car due to the behavior of the transmission and see again I will soon have to return to another dealer (#3) for correction.

62 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

When going up hills the car's transmission refuses to shift instantly and makes loud grinding noise. It would eventually shifts but the split seconds of not shifting causes me anxiety and implies a safety issue. I brought this problem to the attention of Ford of kirkland's service department the first time in April and was told that the car was still "learning" my driving habits because it is still breaking in. The second time I brought my car in was in 12/2013, I was told that what I am experiencing is a known issue to the manufacturer and Ford is trying to come up with a software fix. No one knows when the fix will be available while drivers like me are suffering. In filing this complaint, I hope that with a help from a your agency Ford will pay more attention to its customers who are enduring this problem when driving their cars every day.

63 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Metalic grinding noise is heard when accelerating at slow speeds. Transmission shifts at approximately 1500 rpm and between 10-25 mph, griding noise is heard for a few seconds, then stops. As car proceeds into next gear, if rpm drops to 1500 and speed again between 10-25 mph, grinding noise is heard. I have taken the car to seraphin Ford in vernon, they claim to have driven the car without hearing the noise. A separate date, I took the car to seraphin Ford, drove a mechanic in the car, but the noise was faint and mechanic could not hear it. Sometimes the sound is faint, other times sound is loud. No rhyme or reason. I have read much on the internet about this exact issue with 2012-2013 Focus power trains. I am convinced there is a problem that Ford is not addressing. Also, power train lags and flutters often. I have learned to drive very "gently" to prevent lag/shutter/surge when driving. I have noticed when using cruise control at highway speeds, if I attempt to adjust the speed using the steering wheel controls (to advance speed), the engine takes off, rpm climbs very high and the engine roars. I have to completely shut down cruise control and start over again. It can be scary at highway speeds to have the engine race like that.

64 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/31/2013

Bought the car on Saturday. On Sunday, noticed a grinding noise coming from the transmission. Also noticed transmission slipping between gears. Car does not accelerate correctly and does not shift like it should. When on a decline, the car drifts backwards if you let off the brake to accelerate. Took it to the dealer where I was told that this is all normal. Ford has informed the dealer not to fix the issues. Dealer said that Ford does not have a solution to these problems.

65 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

I noticed the transmission wasn't shifting correctly and it was hesitating. This happened often and finally I was stuck in the middle of an intersection twice on the same day and the car would not shift into second gear and began shaking and making a knocking noise. This could have caused a huge accident. I don't understand why Ford has not done a recall on this car. I was told my transmission has extensive damage and the part that needs to be replaced was on backorder and could take a few months. I was also informed that I am number 1900 on the waiting list for this part in my region. I asked if I could trade my car in for another model of car at the same cost and they said they would only pay me $14,000 for my Focus. So basically my car depreciated $10,000 in 4 months and Ford will not do what is right and replace the car for me and take the loss. I'm extremely disgusted that Ford was even selling these cars when they knew there was a problem with the transmission and even more so that they will not fix the problem.

66 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Beginning in March 2013, only 4 months after its purchase, I noticed my car hesitated to accelerate on the highway. I brought it into a Ford dealership, and they told me that I had a bad tank of gas. The issue appeared to have gone away after a while, but returned in 2014. In 2014, I brought my car into Ford on multiple occasions for the hesitation, shutter, and associated noises. I feel as if this is a safety issue, because my car is unable to shift into the proper gear when I am trying to accelerate onto a crowded highway or through an intersection. Ford has recalibrated the computer for the transmission multiple times, and even though the service receipt says that the shutter is still present after they fix it, it is okay by Ford's standards, so they allow me to leave the shop. The shutter appears to improve for the most part after taking it to Ford, only to return in a matter of two or three weeks. The recalibration service Ford is offering is not an appropriate long-term safety fix, and the transmission should be recalled and replaced with a true automatic transmission.

67 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Tried to tell dealership about stuttering of car when it is shifting, response was not enough miles on it, nothing was checked out. Also called dealership again about the stuttering, had the feeling they thought I was crazy. Oil change at 5000 miles, was asked about how I liked the new standard automatic transmission, was not impressed, was taken out on the road, had a loud screech in the front of the car on the highway, was told sometimes a something gets loose and air gets under it and it screeches**. 2nd oil change, had enough of the run around, made some noise and got the car checked out on a computer, low and behold, they found a bad clutch, they are replacing it at no cost to me, problem is I don't want this car anymore, I feel very unsafe driving this car, & I feel it is a " large red lemon "& I want it replaced with a good dependable new car, I don't have to be afraid to drive. Thank you, would like to think this would help my cause.

68 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/24/2012

I have had my 2013 Ford Focus several times in the dealer, for transmission problems with their dual clutch transmission including excessive noise during acceleration, the gear shift around on the stop and go traffic even with 5 mph speed, hesitation when attempting to accelerate into traffic, and jerky acceleration, especially from 1st to 2nd gear. Every time they told me it is normal, and told me if the car isn't break down or with an engine light on, they can't do anything. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle anymore, especially in heavy traffic as I never know when it is going to fail to accelerate. Ford insists these issues are normal, and tell me I can wait until before my warranty expire to come back to fix (don't know what that mean?).

70 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

The new vehicle was purchased on 9/3/12. Calls to the service department began on 9/5/12 for complaints of 'bucking and jerking' of the car in low speed shifting. The car was accepted on 9/8/12 for repair of multiple paint chips on the front of the car and for evaluation of the shifting irregularities. Upon delivery of the car (53 odometer miles) the customer was informed that the paint chips had been repaired and the transmission computer was reset. The computer reset was not recorded on the service agreement for that date. On 12/5/12, the car abruptly stopped accelerating and metal grinding prevented use. The car was held from 12/5/12 until 1/8/13 (35 days, odometer reading 7,068 miles) for repair of a broken rear window channel, repair of transmission with replaced clutch. On 1/23/13 the vehicle was towed again due to not starting during multiple attempts by the owners and the tow truck driver. The vehicle was returned to the owner on 1/25/13 with a service report noting a weak battery. The battery was charged by the service provider and no other service codes were reported. On 1/28/13, the steering wheel required both hands to turn and the car narrowly missed going off of the road. Upon attempt to restart, the ignition was weak and multiple warning lights displayed on the dashboard. The odometer reading reset to '0' and the mpg reading went blank. The car had significant change in ignition sound and with uncharacteristic humming noise and was turned off again. When the car was on the tow truck with the ignition off, key out, and door open, the radio began playing and could not be manually turned off. The car was transported to the dealership. As of 2/3, the car has been out of service for 46 days due to multiple infractions. The vehicle has had symptoms of stalling, failure to start, and loss of power steering. Alternator being replaced 2/4.
