Tank Assembly Problems of Ford Focus - part 2

Fuel pump problems related to 2001 Ford Focus zx3. Began to stumble when at 1/4 tank and turning right and has progressed that at any time im at 3/4 tank or less I can not turn right at any reasonable speed without fuel cut. This is related to a known defect of fuel tank liner that they refuse to warranty or recall. Has left me many times merging onto highway with nearly stalled engine. Ford is aware and issues bulletin to dealerships but refuses to acknowledge problem to public.

2001 and up Ford Focus fuel pump & gas tank recall request. The fuel tank is made from a material that frequently flakes off and clogs the fuel pump very often. I have had 3 fuel pumps replaced already, and my car has less than 21,000 miles. Due to the inferior design of the tank and fuel pump, the pump clogs too easily, then burns out leaving the car stranded. The design of the pump has a fine mesh screen before the larger screen so the large mesh screen is simply useless! the small screen clogs up from large flakes that would have been caught by the large screen if the pump had not been designed by retards.

While driving up a hill the vehicle stalled. It was later determined that fuel leaked from the fuel tank. .

60000 miles on car, 4 sets of tires, 7 recalls, defect in gas tank cover filler, 2 sets of brakes, rear alignment not adjustable (advised by independent shop) and horrible shaking at highway speeds after all this. Dealer has been no help with tire problem. Never buying a Ford again.

I have nothing but grief with my 2000 Focus. 1) most recently I had was traveling at 50 km/h when my front right coil spring dropped out of the front end. I phoned Ford repeatedly and even though I discovered a program covering my the coil springs on I was given the run around saying that I was outside the program recall date by a few months even though the car was made at the wayne assembly plant; where other program recalls were coming from. I ended up in a field when the coil spring broke, narrowing missing the car next to me. I was thankful that I had escaped with my life but not to be covered by Ford was a slap to the face. I am very upset about the way they handled this situation and I am determined to let everyone know about this situation. My alignment is also out because of the accident but can't afford to fix it right now. 2) four times since I've owned the car, the car has stalled. Twice rounding a corner going onto a highway and 2 twice on a straight away highway. It always happened when the gas gauge was below 1/8 of a tank and so I thought it was my fault because I was running out of gas. Of course I blamed myself. But four times ? I began to become suspicious when the car began chugging uphill on a recent long distance trip. I barely made it to my destination. When I took into a Ford dealership in sudbury ontario the serviceman told me that knows of the problem though most of them came in under warranty. Of course the problem at first only presented itself when the tank was near empty and so I always or nearly always made sure to have at least half a tank full of gas when driving. Today the problem is present regardless of how much gas is in the car. Very convenient for Ford seeing as though I am outside the 60,000 km warranty plan. Again I do not feel comfortable driving on the highways anymore. I am hoping that Ford will hear me out a pay for the repair.

Engine stalls or shudders when fuel level reaches a quarter of a tank.

When I started my car to go home from work I started to smell gas. I didn't think much of it untill I got home. When I turned the car off, I lifted the hood thinking there would be a problem in there. I could here what sounded like something boiling. Then I walked around the car untill I got to the gas tank. Thats where I could really smell the gas. I looked under the car and there was gas dripping from the gas tank. My car only has 24000 miles on it, and only a month out of warranty. So I had the car towed to a local garage thinking that maybe it was just a crack in the fuel line. What was found out is my car has a plastic gas tank and has broken at the seams. The boiling noise I heard was the gas spitting on the exhaust. The mechanic said I was lucky that the car did not catch on fire. So I called Ford to see what they could do since it was obvious that the gas tank was faulty. They said they would not do anything untill I got the car to my Ford service station. I will have to call them and see what they will have to say. I hope I don't have to pay for Fords mistake. How can they expect a plastic gas tank to last, when mine has busted at only 24000 miles.

While driving vehicle stalled. Dealer replaced fuel tank. Gtb . . . .

Loss of power, stalling when fuel tank is less than one quarter full. According to Ford service employee this results from problems with either fuel pump or fuel filter(due to build up of sludge and/or debris in fuel tank.

While driving on highway, vehicle just stalled out without any warning. The vehicle stalled as if it had run out of gasoline with an almost full tank. After letting the engine sit for a few minutes, the vehicle would restart. This has occurred several times within a few days and at various speeds from 15 to 65 mph, causing loss of control of vehicle. Dealer was notified, inspected the car, and said that there was nothing wrong. Dt.

The vehicle stalled while driving and would not restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who noticed black build up in the tank.

While driving and no warning fuel tank cracked, causing fluid to leak onto exhaust pipe. Dealer notified.

This fuel pump had previously been replaced on 10/18/2001 and 21127 miles due to component failure. The present failure (apparetnly the pump broke at the connection point for the filter/line) resulting in a large quantity of fuel being pumped out onto a sheet metal shield in close proximity to the exhaust system as well as onto the pavement around the vehicle. Everything was present needed for a tragedy; fuel and ignition. The car was parked adjacent to a restaurant and several other vehicles and presented, in my estimation, a serious safety risk. The dealer took a cavalier attitude to the failure and merely attempted to get Ford to pay for the repairs. I believe the gas tank, pump and filter should be scrutinized on this model of car. If a replacement pump failed on my car, it certainly could fail on others.

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning vehicle started leaking gasoline from gas tank. Dealership is aware of problem.

While driving up hill with less than a quarter tank of gas the engine lost. When the accelerator was pressed the vehicle reacted like it was out of gas.

When tank is half way full or less, vehicle will stall when trying to accelerate. Contacted dealer, and the dealer cannot find cause. Consumer stated the engine light illuminated and a senor was replaced however that did not remedy the stalling problem.

I have contacted Ford motor company. They have told me " they have no repair procedure" at this time. The washer tank vent is located such that it allows up to 3 quarts of fluid to drain out of the tank. We have had the car to coleman Ford twice and they did replace the tank and check the system. The problem will continue until the tank vent issue is corrected is what I was told at coleman Ford.

3 occurrences: vehicle receives no fuel and stalls to almost a stop when entering interstate highways from entrance ramps. Occurs when fuel is between empty and 1/4 full. Tank has at least 3-4 gallons in it. Must pull off to shoulder and let car sit until it will reaccelerate. Very dangerous in that if car enters lane of traffic cannot accelarate vehilce at all.

While driving fuel tank will show that it is empty when, in reality, tank is full. Also, a problem with brake system. Brakes will not activate on time to stop vehicle.

Car off at refueling. After fill-up, car started and fuel gauge reads empty and low-fuel indicator illuminates. Dealer replaced sender&fuel pump and this has not resolved the problem. After driven several miles (>10) fuel gauge works again. Customer told to deal with it.

Reporting a possible fuel tank explosion that could have occurred. Vehicle was rearended by an Audi a4, 2000 vehicle at an impact of approximately 10 - 15 mph. Impact left a dent in back of fuel tank. Dealer notified.

Vehicle hesitated and stalled due to a contaminated fuel tank. The consumer has since received a recall notice, and after reading the notice she realized the vehicle had the same problems.

After taking vehicle for recall repair, engine light came on after it hasn't been driven for two days. When it was taken to dealership it was found that there was an excess leak in the solenoid canister. After repair on solenoid canister, check engine light reappeared. Consumer took vehicle back to dealership, light goes off. Consumer went back and forth to dealership because check engine light kept appearing. Also, consumer experience loss of fuel. Consumer fulled gas tank and after being driven 51 miles, tank is half full.

When the gas tank was half full the vehicle would stall on right turns and hills.

Fuel indication gives wrong reading when full indication reads empty. Please provide further information.

While traveling or while in park noice large amount of fuel gushing from fuel tank. Please provide further information.

I have 18-2001 Ford Focus' and 7-2000 Focus'. I live in erie,PA. When the outside temperature goes up 25-30degrees fast the car starve for gas. Last year champion Ford and Ford fleet acknowledged the problem. This year they blame it on the "gas station" and because I didnt bring all my maintenence work to them. 5 of the 18-2001 have broken down for this problem this year. Fuel tank measuring float is wrong . I had a little more than a1/4 tank of fuel and it would not start thetow truck driver told me that the Focus model is known for that problem. We then put 3gals of gas in and it started right up. Also wheel bearing in rear went can't get inspected till fixed. Dealer says could take a few days to fix. I need a rental car I must be able to get aroundtill it is fixed. Please help me in this problem.
