2016 Ford Focus. Consumer writes in regards to brake and transmission issues with vehicle. The consumer stated the brake pads were prematurely worn. The transmission would shudder/clank and did not shift properly. It has been to the dealer four times due to this failure.

Transmission shudders and shifts erratically in low gears. Sometimes unanticipated accelerations from low gears and sometimes transmission shifts into low gears while at higher speeds, causing vehicle to rev up and loose accelerations intermittently.

Upon coming to a stop (such as at a traffic light or stop sign,) the vehicle makes extremely loud "clunking" noises when shifting down in gear. The sound seems to come directly from the transmission area and is in sync with the changing of gears. Upon acceleration from a stop, the transmission will make grinding sounds and stutter the entire car in a jerking-type motion. When this happens, the entire car feels as if there is a loss of power and makes it hard to accelerate properly in high-speed/high-traffic areas (such as freeway on-ramps or state highways. ) I personally believe that this could be a dangerous thing because if I were to pass someone on a dotted line, or even pull out onto a roadway, the car may either stall or stutter so slowly that I wouldn't be able to get up to speed correctly, resulting in a possible collision. Lastly, I would like to mention that on 3 separate occasions now, when I am trying to park the car in a parking space, the transmission would not switch it into reverse at all. My gear shifting stick was in reverse, as well as the gauge-cluster displaying I was in reverse, however, my car acted as if it was in neutral. I would have to place the car back into park or drive again, and then try again for the transmission to successfully switch into reverse. I did contact my local Ford dealership, however they said they were many weeks out and I never could get ahold of anyone there to schedule a time to look at it. I will add on that my car only has 17,000 miles on it as of July 2019. From my research, I have seen many others post complaints or worries in regard to the 2017 Ford Focus and its transmission. I hope that NHTSA will look into this further and can find answers as to why many, many of these cars are having issues with stalling, stuttering, and grinding noises and motions coming from the transmission.

When accelerating, typically from a stopped position but not exclusively, the transmission shudders. This started happening at about 20k miles and I'm told by the Ford dealership "some shuddering is to be expected & cannot be repaired". I disagree. This is not to be expected as no other vehicle I've owned did this unless there was a mechanical problem.

I was at a stop light. When I began to slowly accelerate away from the light my car shook aggressively and stalled in the intersection. Luckily other cars were able to stop. I restarted my car and put it in gear it began to shake again. I turned the car off. Eventually I started the car and drove it home shaking every time I accelerated. I took it to beau townsend Ford. They told me it was a clutch shudder in the transmission and needed fixed. They said it is a common problem with my transmission. They told me they have problems with the transmission slipping into neural. I purchased my car one year prior and the salesman told me then that the transmission was reliable and effective. He it was a great transmission that never needed servicing during the life of my car. He knowingly lied to me.

This vehicle is equipped with the 6 speed transmission that Ford as had so much trouble with, however they will not repair the problem that causes the shudder as they say it falls out of the build dates. The car only has 80,000 miles on it and should not be having transmission problems. If there is a problem that they have already recalled or put out a TSB for he dps6 automatic transmission, it should be fixed. When accelerating from a stop there is transmission shudder occasionally. It doesn't do it all the time, but a lot of the time. This is the same thing other people are fighting with just a few weeks prior build date. This seems to happen when you are taking off, sometimes when it shifts to 2nd gear. Most every time it does it you can bet you are pulling into heavy traffic and its going to cause an accident. The first time I noticed this I had just driven about 400 miles. Since then it has been noticed more.

Transmission clunks and shudders at times when driving. While engine running in the stop position, brake peddle goes to the floor.

Transmission shudders slips and is generally sluggish. Sometimes reads in neutral and car is in drive mode. Ford dealerships state clutch assembly and seals need replaced have written documentation from dealership confirming the issue. I contacted Ford customer care and was told that there was nothing they will do to repair the problem as Ford has not recognized that there is an issue. I was told that I am responsible for repairs even though they are aware of the problem. I was shunned and generally treated very poorly by every f ord dealership I spoke with as they stated they cannot recover the repair costs from Ford.

The transmission sputters and shakes and makes a grinding noise. I am fearful that it is going to fail and cause a severe accident injuring myself or someone else. This is a ongoing problem. The dealer said this is normal for this car. I first took it in around 17,000 miles. It is only getting worse. The dealer initially told me that Ford was aware of this problem and would fix it. Now they will not honor there word and say it is out of warranty.

The transmission shudders frequently. Its a reoccurring issue every time I drive and the car only has 30k miles on it, the car did not come equipped with the select shift mode and it has been doing it since I got the car, it makes the whole front end of the car shake (not violently enough to make the car steer out of control). I took it to a Ford dealership and they said they don't know what I'm talking about and cant reproduce the issue, but its a well known that the Ford powershift transmission is terrible, basically the issue is not common enough to need replacing so I'm just stuck with a poor transmission.

Very hard shifting through gears when first starting to drive. After car is warmed up and driven for a time. There is a shuddering in the transmission when starting from a stop. The hard shuddering makes it seem like the transmission is going to fail.

The contact was informed that the shuddering in the transmission was not enough to have the vehicle repaired. The contact was concerned with the vehicle not being able to operate as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v169000 (power train). The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Ah.

Car has stalled six times in one week transmission has shift to neutral while in drive when car stalls have to pull to side of road and put in park and restart transmission shudders no power very dangerous situation almost rear -ended by truck an engine malfunction service now message will display on message screen yesterday was by far the worst day engine dies pull to side of road put in park restart put in drive like it was in neutral turn car off restart put in drive very little power to transmission pull back over to side of road restart put in drive had power to transmission. Will park vehicle until situation is resoved.

My car has had transmission problems since I purchased the vehicle. The transmission shudders, jerks, and loses power while driving. I have lost power while driving on the highway at 65+ mph numerous times and almost caused crashes. The car jerks when accelerating from a stop and changing gears which causes safety hazards to other drivers. My car doesn't start (randomly) and my engine shuts down when decelerating. The dealership has continuously blamed the transmission issues on my driving abilities (although they've known about the faulty transmissions before mass production).

Shifting from first to second the transmission shudders and sounds and feels like vibrations. Had the clutch replaced at 34k. Happenjng again. Brought it to Ford , they reprogrammed the transmission , 2 days later happening again.

Since I drove the vehicle off the lot, transmission shudders, jerks, vibrates, rough up/downshifts, slips into neutral, wont shift into reverse, transmission fault warnings, transmission overheat warnings. The car does not reliably accelerate/decelerate under normal operating conditions. On multiple occasions had to push the car out of a parking spot by hand since reverse would not engage. Had to push off the road several times after violent shifts/shuddering and warning lights. Has happened numerous times since purchasing the vehicle. Initially dealership said over the phone the new technology hadn't adapted to my driving style yet and it would clear up. Eventually I took it in for repair after repair and have since taken the vehicle off the road. The last episode happened with my children in the car and it's no longer safe to transport passengers in.

Transmission shudders upon acceleration from a stop or from a slow speed. Repairs were made under warranty a few times. Issue has returned but Ford is saying car is out of warranty so we must pay for repairs. There is a recall 14m01 that extends warranty on transmission for our year, make, model, symptom,and transmission but Ford says our VIN is not included. They cannot tell me why it's not included, just that it is not. Car has 51,000 miles on it, and requires its 4th transmission repair. Dealership has told us that our car has same problem with transmission that many Ford Focuses have.

Transmission shuddering, hesitating, very rocky and does not shift nicely. Drives lie it's a manual car; jerks and shifts hard. When taking off car hesitates as though it could stall . Brought it in to be serviced at dealer and service employee performed what he explained to be a shutter test. I was advised that it did not completely fail the test and to expect it to get significantly worse within the next ten thousand lmao. Car is one year old with 28,000 km. Transmission seems buggy and unreliable . Afraid this new car will leave me stranded alongside the road. Lost all faith in Ford Focus. It is ridiculous this has not verb recalled or bought back to fix. I have made many complaints to the dealer and was turned away and told this is completely normal for this transmission. I was told it was designed to drive like it's a manual car. This has been going on since a month after purchase. Service centre also performed what they called a pc update. Did not provide me with any paper work in regards to service or work done . Hate this car.

Transmission shudders heavily when accelerating from 1st to 3rd gear. Seems to only do this when the engine is warmed up.

Transmission clutch shuddering/chattering on acceleration, primarily in 1st and 2nd gear. Worse when ambient temp is warmer. Slams into gear, sometimes breaking tires loose on pavement. Only owned this car for 1 week. Mileage in the 70k range. Especially dangerous pulling out on a turn. Car will jerk sideways and hesitate, leaving you open to being struck by another vehicle.

The transmission shudders when trying to accelerate. The car jerks and sputters so bad that for fear of getting in a collision we have to wait for all traffic to clear when making a left turn at an intersection. Very unsafe for my family! I was not this bad on the test drive and the sales man told it the clutch plates needed to be broken in!.

Takata recall I just bought this car in 03-08-19 I notice the car wheels, transmission shakes its like it didn't want to go when you hit the gas. I thought maybe its out of liniment but something is not right. In motion in city and highway, turning. I have not taken to dealer ship I saw that they are some recall on this car. If so what next do I?.

At about 20,000 miles, the dps6 transmission started shuddering and vibrating during acceleration. It got progressively worse, and at 21,988 miles, on 6/12/2019, I took it to the dealer from whom I had purchased the car new on 6/20/2016. A technician performed labor code #160109a. He then noted, "found some clutch shudder still present but fewer than 250 rpm, ok per Ford. " after I complained, the service manager sent me a letter offering me a free oil change (which I declined). Today, 7/17/2019, at 21,988 miles, the transmission is still shuddering. I am waiting to see what happens on the Ford Focus/fiesta transmission settlement. My claim id no. On this settlement is 10612086.

Purchased 2014 Ford Focus in Dec. 2018, less than 31,000 miles in excellent visible condition from family friend for my child away at college. Was informed by previous owner that the when starting from 0 there is a small stutter as car shifts into 1st gear. A Ford dealership instructed them that there is a 10yr/150,000 mile warranty extension (14m01 -dp56 transmission clutch shudder), but cannot do anything until it gets worse. Taking ownership of the 2014 Focus, we did experience a shudder-shudder. My child informed me late Feb, early March the issue has gotten worse. Home for spring break, 03/24/19 week, took for test drive, and the issue is significantly worse; jumping-shuddering-jerking, shudder-shudder when shifting from zero to 1st and also 2nd gear. 03/25/19 took to my mechanic who instructed was transmission issue and Ford has various service publications and advised to take to Ford dealership. I contacted local dealership as well as Ford customer service 03/25/19 to make appointment and start claim. 03/25/19 pm dropped off at autonation Ford. 03/28/2019 informed transmission clutch is out of specification and defective, and will cost $2060 +tax to replace. Also informed that the defective clutch is not covered with the extended warranty (14m01 -dp56 transmission clutch shudder). Also that the vehicles original 5yr/60,000 mile warranty expired on 02/08/2019. 03/28/19, contacted Ford customer service , received case#, and instructed that my issue has been logged but Ford will not do anything, that although the vehicle has 32,986 miles, the 5yr warranty, expired 02/08/2019. Ford did inform me that I can contact NHTSA. Although customer service was polite, this is absolutely not acceptable customer service with a known defective issue. Without resolution, this is, was the 4th and last Ford product my family of 5 will ever purchase, and advise others also to not.

Dps6 transmission shudder and slipping issue. Vehicle has been serviced under multiple owners and had the clutches replaced as well as the software re-flashed. Ford dealer stated they are aware of the issue told me they would get it fixed under the extended warranty offered by Ford. I was charged for a re-flash I was never called to authorized, that has not fixed the shuddering issue. I was almost in an accident when the card decided to not shift going through a stop light and the vehicle behind me almost rear ended me. I contacted Ford and the service manager stated "you need to drive it more aggressively". Ford opened a case to review the poor service and they have never contacted me again.

The Focus dps6 transmission continuously shudders and stalls when driving, especially when starting out and shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. After all of the incidences I have heard about this transmission, I believe there should be an official recall that allows for repairs or replacement of the transmission.

Dual clutch transmission in my car experiences shift hesitation, shaking when launching from a stopped position, and major transmission shuddering. Reverse gear also fails to engage randomly. Seems as though transmission torque dispersion is improperly functioning. Dangerous when pulling out into traffic lanes. Excessive transmission vibration while vehicle is stationary. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 15,000.
