I was to the on us hwy 98 in lakeland FL when I approached the street light that turned red. When I stopped the caravan would not go into gears toward or reverse worked and I was in the middle of traffic very heavy and dangerous possision. Had to push of the road and wait for several hours before help arrived. Than I googled recalls and I seen that Ford made a recall on the make model and year of the caravan. I am not sure of how this possess works but the Ford company says that they will fix the issues with the torque converter.

Torque converter and output shaft. When accelerating internal shaft splines sounds stripped with no power to go . Tachometer in take off reves up when changing gears.
Was driving on my way home on i85 and the car lost speed and rev up on rpm. Read codes an it has a torque converter code on it. I could have been injured because my car was not under a recall and I didn't get no noticed. That was the only vehicle I have and now I have no way to get around. It was a very busy interstate i85 when my car lost speed and revved up on rpm while I was in motion with big rigs behind me.
Vehicle was making a sound kind of like a misfire in the air intake or back fire in the exhaust. Listened several times and sounded like the noise was actually coming from under the vehicle. Took it for a diagnosis to j&a transmission in morris, IL their diagnosis was it's the torque converter which is a recall for this year make and model but Ford is unwilling to help us be safe and repair the issue since our VIN isn't listed in their system for the recall. Nhtsa issued the recall for all 2004-05 models. See pe09-033.
On June 5th 2017 we hit a deer with our van on the drivers side. After the deer hit the van the deer spun around and went under the van. The van was driveable and there weren't any fluids leaking. On our way home that same night when you would get up to 60 miles per hour it would jerk really bad in the transmission. Well when we had the damage on the side of the van fixed we had them look at it. They couldn't find the problem then. We took it back to them again and it was getting worse. They figured out that it mow had a bad torque converter.
Torque converter failure. Vehicle made 2 months after recall cutoff for that item. Failure happened on the hwy with my wife and 2 kids in the car.

2004 Ford Freestar 2fmza58274bbxxxxx Ford is charging me for the repair for the torque converter subframe 3-4 $600~$800 bushing kits ($200 each) they want to charge me. I informed them that only do the factory recall repairs the pulled my van out and told me the cant do the repairs, because they are scared of the ball joints and tie rods might break, then complained about the subframe my have to be cut to install new subframe bolts bushings etc. Just to they can continue to take the apart to replace the torque converter. The agreed to charge me 300 labor and told me to pick up the parts needed so I purchased 2 tie-rods. 2 transaxles l-r, 2 lower control arms which included ball joints. They took the subframe apart then told me I need to pay and additional $500 for a used subframe from the salvage yard. Instead of Ford just preplacing the subframe 4 bushings and bolts kits $67. 00 at park Ford 400 west avenue tallmadge ohio 44278, they want to charge me I needed to get a new subframe bolts and that the subframe is not made anymore and 3-4 $600~$800 each. Then they want to charge me $300 extra labor for cutting the frame/ and welding it back shut to install washer(bolt anchors ) then reseal it, and to uninstall the old parts and install the new parts which they have to remove to perform the factory recall repairs. So this repair is going to cost me 392. 20 for parts 300 labor, 800 subframe bushings $1492. 2 if purchase elsewhere around $26 each I am a USA disable veteran studying form cisco ccna 200-105 exam and so I can better support my adult special need daughter sherry grimes ,I am ronald lee grimes Ford had my van Friday 24th 2017 its March 1st 2017 and they are searching for ways to charge me more money. While I have to walk to my destinations.
2005 Ford Freestar recall I have a 2005 Ford Freestar and didn't know that it had been recalled. I was driving an hour away from my home when coming down an extremely busy offramp the transmission just stopped working. It took me an hour at least to get the van to the side of the road as people were honking and flying down the offramp. I had my two kids with me and they were terrified. I looked up the symptoms of my vehicle and discovered the recall of the torque converter and how it can kill the transmission immediately so I felt confident Ford would help s the van had a recall on the torque converter and I had it towed to phil long in springs, because it quit shifting in the springs, and they told me today it was the transmission. I did research and its doing the same thing all 05 Freestars were doing to get recalled. The guy at the service place also said that it had already been fixed which was not true because I ran the VIN previously ten he tod me it was the whole transmission but I don't trust them. I should still have a new torque converter put in as well right? I called a Ford dealership and the lady who answered the phone said that she doubted my vehicle was recalled but I assured her I had already called and checked so she told me to have it together. I called roadside assistance. When I had the van towed to phil long in colorado springs they were very rude. Initially they didn't want to help but I explained the row truck driver already left it. They asked us to wait I'm the waiting area for quite a while then told us they'd fix the torque converter Thursday. After waiting a week with no transportation they told me they would need 4500 to fix it. I don't know what to do I can't affordable another vehicle or the repairs and it doesn't seem fair that even though this has happened to so many people Ford still profits so much.
Abrupt total loss of power transfer ;without warning. Faulty torque convert design likely to blame. Traveling along at 25 mph in dyersville iowa, on 1st Ave w, on 1/25/2017. Van has ~160k miles. No one was injured, no accident, safely made it to the side of the road. Its my personal option, that had I been in congested heavy traffic, I would pose a safety risk. If your occurring a breakdown, your mostly likely to be given some type of warning. You have time to engage hazards lights, merge over and slow down. However this 06 Ford free-star gave no warning, and this concerns me.
While driving in houston texas, 1500 miles from home, minivan suddenly stopped. We were in hov lanes on highway 290, only one lane because of construction. No worning, suspect torque convertor.
Vehicle was once under recall for torque converter but actual problem is water seeping into the pcm. The vehicle suddenly has shifting problems, suddenly loses all power while driving, sometimes won't go into gear at all, and knocks and shudders very intensely while accelerating. The vehicle performs all these while driving or stationary on all streets at all speeds. The problem initially it intermittent and progressively gets worse.
My wife was driving down the interstate and loss all propulsion to the wheels. The engine continued to run, but when applying the accelerator to attempt to apply power to the wheels she experienced no response. Once towed from the shoulder of the interstate and delivered to a certified mechanic's shop, it was determined that the torque converter had failed. We were informed that this is as common a problem with the 2006 model Freestars as it is for the 2004 and 2005 models since they share the same design and material composition. I'm curious to know why the 2006 model was not recalled when the 2004 and 2005 models were recalled since these model years are identical when considering the torque converter issue. Our Freestar has been impeccably maintained over the years with only 85,300 total miles on this car. The design life of the average transmission far exceeds 85,000 miles, thus it is clearly obvious that material, fabrication, and/or the design elements of this vehicle's torque converter assembly were substantially deficient. Our experience, along with all the other 2006 Freestar owners filing complaints on this web page provide ample evidence for expanding the Freestar recall notice to 2006 models. I earnestly implore the NHTSA to dutifully exercise its authority in reconciling this matter as stated above.
Had the torque converter replaced as per recall at 53692 miles. Two years and 12000 miles later the van lost power on the road. Dealer estimated $1300 to diagnose and $3000 if it is the transmission.
Mom was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the transmission slipped, she was on the second lane so their is cars going by at 60 miles plus on the sides, the van came to a slow stop and with cars barely missing us and causing a horrible accident. We finally had a tow truck driver that is a friend of mine come to our rescue. Mom is scared to get on the highway ever since. I got on the internet that same day and found out Ford recalled the torque converter on the 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestar but that same woman torque converter used on the 2006 model was not , the same one me and my mom were not only us but other drivers could have been seriously hurt or worse. And if I may say the van only has 77,000 miles on it. And I've seen many many complains online about this issue with the same 2006 model with different owners, please help make this right.
Torque converter failure without warning. I was driving northbound on interstate 380 on 10/6/2016 at roughly 70 mph in the left lane of traffic. I was not using the cruise control. Suddenly (around mile marker 13-14), the engine revved very high and the van decelerated. I was traveling up a hill and was dangerously decelerating in the left lane of the interstate. I managed to get over to the side of the road (cutting off a semi-truck) with absolutely no propulsion. It felt as though the engine was not connected with the drive wheels. There was no warning this was going to happen, the van just suddenly started decelerating rapidly on the interstate. I noticed quickly because the engine revved up when the transmission let go. I had the van towed to the local Ford dealership, where I left it for them to review the issue. The service person at the dealership called me back the next day and informed me that the torque converter had failed completely. I asked them if there was a recall involved with this component. They informed me that the 2006 Ford Freestar transmission was not included in the Freestar transmission recall. I looked it up on the NHTSA website and confirmed that my vehicle's transmission had not been recalled. The vehicle has roughly 98,000 miles on it, although it is a 2006 model. It appears to have the same problem as the 2005 models. The repair cost is roughly $1,400.
Driving at highway speeds, the engine remained at 2000 rpm but the mph continuously dropped to below 30 mph until vehicle was stopped on shoulder of highway. The torque converter was under recall and replaced previously. This is the same situation that occurred again. I believe the replacement torque converter was also defective.
2006 Ford free star torque converter. Vehicle lost power in traffic. Very unsafe. Recall is for 2004-2005. 2006 has same issue.
When we bought this vehicle we loved it but it steadily went down hill. We got notification of recall about 6 months after purchase and tried several times to get into the dealer. Finally got it in March 2016 and now here I am paying on a vehicle that the torque converter went out on. Prior to repair the transmission would roughly shift and jerk/lurch into selected gear and at higher rates of speeds would shutter and trans light would come on. Now it doesn't respond to the gas pedal right away and then the engine shakes/shudders and the dipstick has a substance on it and when driving today it just coasted like in neutral! I have 4 children and this does not give me faith in Ford and it is my 3rd generation star van and my 6th Ford vehicle in general.
Driving my minivan home then it made a noise ans seemed like it shifted in neutral. Did some research and it sounds like the torque converter went out. I heard it had a recall. Let me know thanks.
Torque converter output shaft failure the torque converter output shaft may fail, resulting in a sudden loss of motive power with no warning. Vehicle was in motion and just stopped working on city street.
Had the recall for the torque converter done and now my vehicle shakes, sputters. Won't accelerate, the rpms jump up high, very loud noises coming from underneath vehicle. Sometimes it will stall out. Can't go past 25-30 mph if it even gets up to that! my vehicle ran perfect before taking it into the Ford dealership and ever since I got it back we have had this problem. Took it back to Ford and they tried to say it was throttle cable so had that fixed and it still is doing the same things as it did after the torque converter was replaced. Can't drive the vehicle because when I go to accelerate it doesn't go or get up to the correct mph. The whole vehicle shakes really bad and the noises it makes are very loud and sound like something is going to blow up. I think the torque converter they replaced it with is bad and they need to fix this problem and man up and quit trying to blame it on other things. They messed up and need to fix it.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving in reverse at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted; however, the transmission failed to operate in the desired gear selection until several hours later. The failure recurred on a separate occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter and transmission would need to be replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v006000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Problem #1 the passenger side window will not work . It's controll module was replaced it worked one time and stopped working again. Problem #2 the drive axle broke in traffic luckily we were stopping and were only going about 5 mph. Problem #3 today after a night of heavy rain when the van was unlocked the radio came on before the key was even in the ignition. Which brings us to problem #4 the biggest and no doubt most expensive. The van started and was running kind of sluggish but ran fine in reverse but if you shift to drive the van shuts off. You cannot start it in neutral either. I have had 2 independent mechanics look at it today both say it is the torque converter. I looked it up and there is a recall but of course it's the weekend and I can't call to see if it's covered.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Despite the recall of the torque converter and replacement of part, it failed again. The vehicle lost ability to use it after a soccer game. It started, but wouldn't drive before loosing all power. It woudn't go in reverse and had to be towed. This is the 2nd vehicle of the same model to do it that I owned. This could have led to an accident, since I was heading to the interstate with my children in the car. I am concerned the part should be replaced again due to either a faulty part or the way it works with other parts. This is a financial burden on people that own these vehicles.
Transmission get lost while driving Ford Freestar 2004 van; driving back from church, stop in traffic light the van could not start again, pushed to the nearest gas stations, towed to the dealer, was advised that since they cannot do any diagnosis without turning on the vehicle and knows what is wrong with the van, they need a new computer to reprogram the car. Paid $2500 for computer replacement and reprogramming(receipts attached). I was told all the issue will be gone. During the drop-off I told the service specialist that while I am driving the van sometime while increasing the speed, or just in the steady motion I do experience condition like stuck back and forth, and then move; the process repeat sometime. Twice the car lost power in the middle of the highway this year, and was helped by other driver to stop it and push it away from the highway, lucky due to constructions the traffic was very slow. When I took the car from the dealer after reprogramming I still have exactly the same problem, and now backseat door can be open manually only; dealer told me it is torque converter issue, when I google I found out that this is known issue (recall number 12v006000) for Ford free star 2004-2006 for torque converter replacement, when I call the dealer I was told yes that recall existed, but my VIN number was not listed for that recall hence they cannot help me. I cold Ford customer service, they gave me the same answer that since my VIN number was not listed they cannot help me but I should call the dealership and see what they can do to replace torque converter. At this time I left the van to the dealership but they are doing nothing on it until I make a payment, I can¿t drive that vehicle very scary condition. What can I do to have my VIN number get included in the list for that recall? stuck issue has been there since I bought this van never thought aout it any help.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. In addition, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle was able to stop, but failed to operate after the brake pedal was released. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 12v006000 (power train) prior to purchasing the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
Transmission completely stopped while driving no warning lost all forwards and reverse. Been told it is the same problem Ford has had on many of the same models of torque converter going out.
While driving at approximately 20 miles an hour we made a turn then the vehicle just revved up and would not go in any gear. Vehicle stalled in the middle of the street and was unable to get it out of traffic. After investigating realize that this is the torque converter that has went bad and there was a recall on 2004 and 2005 for the exact same problem. 2006 use the same transmission and same tour converter so I'm not sure why it wasn't recalled also.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestar. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 164,421.
Van just lost all power without any warning while driving down the interstate at 70 mph. After calling Ford I was informed that the recall for the torque converter was done in 2011 and now it looks like the same problem again.
When I touched the transmission gear shift one morning, the car began rolling down my driveway & rolled into the street. I had a hard time stopping the vehicle because the engine was not yet running & the power brakes were not on. The gear shift lever would not hold in park or any of the other gears. I had the vehicle towed to a transmission repair shop. When I told the mechanic what had happened, he said it was the transmission torque converter & said, "this is a common problem with this vehicle. " "I have replaced hundreds of them over the years. Other independent transmission repair shops have said the same thing. When I asked the clerk at the local Ford dealer parts dept. , they would not tell me how many of the torque converters they have replaced. Nor could I get any information from their transmission repair mechanics. My independent mechanic did show me the defective part of my transmission & demonstrated how the spline in the converter had worn out because it was not proper heat treated for proper hardening & thus the part malfunctioned. Needless to say, the pump shaft gear which inserts itself in the spline does not have this malfunction. Therefore, any transmission mechanic or laymen can only come to the conclusion that this part #06050700015 is a defective part & should have been recalled. This malfunction is corrected with an after-market part. I had to pay $1200 to have this defective part removed & replaced. You can imagine the hundreds or thousands dollars Ford owner all over the country have had to replace this defective part. I have spoken to two Ford motor CO. Customer service reprs. & they say, "there is nothing they can do about it. " I also wrote a registered letter to Ford motor CO. Corporate office & received a mail reply with the same response. Initially I was only asking Ford mo. To compensate me $250. For the defective part & not the $1200.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicles engine would rev high. The vehicle was able to be pulled over and shut off. While sitting, the vehicle was restarted. When the vehicle was shifted out of park, and in to gear, there was no response. The transmission failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission and torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 70,335. Ed.
My van won't go into reverse and sometimes won't even go into drive. The torque converter was flushed out again after it was supposedly replaced due to recall and is still sputtering and stalling out. They tell me now I need a new transmission at 50k miles another $4k. The van was in the driveway with the health dept. Here to do work and I couldn't get it in reverse to move it for them to put in my septic. After pushing it backward I was able to put it in drive to get around the house' it has not wanted to get out of park at the doctor's office and finally worked with the shifter until it finally went to reverse-backed out-then drive. I was sitting in the middle of a busy lot when it wouldn't go into gear. Took it to Ford and they say I either needed a tcm or a new transmission. Had my van for 2 days before telling me I needed a new transmission. I only paid $5300. For it and they want $4k for a transmission. The van is a 2 owner vehicle and I bought it with 41k miles. Then Ford says that they don't rebuild that transmission-because it is crap and I need a new one. This is not right. Other people have complained of this same thing happening to them. They need to recall this transmission before someone really gets hurt. In driving the van stalls for no reason going 30 to 40mph. People will run you over. My husband is disabled and we can't be worried all the time if the van will get us to the doctor or any place else safely. Now, while the van is in the shop again for another transmission I have no way to transport my husbands scooter to take him to the doctor. The van was bought to transport him and the scooter. Without a reliable van I am screwed! I will never buy a Ford ever again. You need to get on this recall for the tranny. Please help these people like me. Another death trap just like the pinto. . We should be reimbursed for our time and money. It isn't right.
